  • Contact tmosso@thewatchbox.com for pricing and availability; Either I have it, or I can get it! Wake up with watches and host Tim Mosso! The “Watches Live” live Tuesday evening livestream has moved to Wednesday morning with a full array of Rolex watches, Omega watches, and high complications from brands as varied as Patek Philippe and Arnold & Son.
    Rolex features prominently thanks to two Rolex Day Date models from different eras; the Day Date Oysterquartz and its tapestry tritium dial are redolent of 1970s design, and the Day Date 40 speaks to the current-day preference for discretion. A rare Rolex Cellini Cestello in white gold demonstrates Rolex’s unsung penchant for imaginative case design (hinge lugs!) and ultra-thin case construction (6.4mm!). Finally, a Datejust Turn-O-Graph (Rolex Thunderbird) showcases the company’s skill with engine turned-white gold and unconventional pilot’s watches.
    Omega’s Speedmaster and Seamaster families receive attention thanks to two outstanding Representatives. The 2018 Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Apollo 8” stuns with its openworked dial, exclusive Moonwatch caliber 1869 with laser-ablated bridges and plates. The “Dark Side” black ceramic case and fully lumned ceramic tachymeter impress alongside the most audacious Moonwatch since Omega’s 2015 Silver Snoopy. The rare and quirky Omega Seamaster Bullhead “Rio 2016” is a 316-piece limited series dedicated to the Rio Di Janeiro Olympic Games of 2016; with its bullhead chronograph system, the nostalgic nods to vintage Omega Seamasrer 146.011, and the wearable 43x43mm case, this is a standout even by Omega limited edition standards.
    High horology gets its due thanks to an FP Journe Tourbillon Souverain in rose gold and a Patek Philippe 5170G chronograph with Tiffany & Co. co-signed dial. Arnold & Son’s spectacular dead beat seconds CTB chronograph in rose gold delights with its shuffle-step cadence. The Jaeger LeCoultre Amvox III combines rose gold, scratch-resistant black ceramic, a GMT second time zone, and a tourbillon. For good measure, this 300 piece limited edition JLC watch includes a thoughtful pointer date that jumps over the tourbillon during the transition from the 31st of the month to the first of the following month.
    Fans of complicated dive watches will adore the brash rubber clad Ulysse Nardin Marine Perpetual and the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms flyback chronograph. The Ulysse Nardin impresses with its Ludwig Oechsling-designed calendar system and sapphire-set diving bezel; Blancpain’s flyback chronograph co-exists with the basic 50 Fathoms’ 300-meter water resistance.

    Tim, a big thumbs up on your new show, the time works out well for me! Loved the collection of Rolex, something different then then the usual collection of Subs, Hulks, and GMTs. Thanks for that. But that Fortis is beyond the valley of out of control! Haven't see anything from them since the NATO chronos of the 90s. Nice to see they've been busy.

    Hi Tim. Great show as always. Amazing array of pieces. No problem with the recorded version of the show but certainly not keen on the 7am timing (noon here) - this means 2 shows on a Wednesday and none on a Tuesday. Any reason why a pre-recorded show can't still go out at the standard time?

    The Fortis F43.... WOW! I like it.. Also the Arnold & Son True Second very nice!!... Tim-ski, ceramic cases are very delicate. Drop them and they fracture at the lugs or crystal seat... delicate things amigo and not cheap to fix as you need to replace.

    • @the1916companywatchreviews
      @the1916companywatchreviews  5 лет назад +2

      And it's roughly a $6,500 preowned watch, so the value potential is exceptional! Regarding ceramic cases, I think the hazards are over-stated. Dropping any luxury watch can result in a trip to the factory, and I usually tell people to evaluate their suitability for a ceramic watch in terms of whether or not they commonly fracture crystals or deeply dent their metal case watches.

      Tim

    Often, Arnold and Son catches my eye. That chronograph is elegant and top shelf. Has Kentucky Derby written all over it.
    The bezel alone on the Fifty Fathoms is worth the price of admission. Too chunky and shiny for my wrist, though.
    Props to DeBethune but I can never look past the amplifed Delta shape and the star trek association.
    The Sax o Mat is spinning sex. Everything about it is perfection
    The Omega is a delightful rare bird. Love the pusher placements. I can see owning something like that

    Thanks for the video T. Very nice watches. I loved the Omega Bullhead. I asked this question under another vid but I will repeat it here. Who is Laurent Ferrier made for? Who is their target consumer? I don’t find their watches appealing, and I can’t think of a profile that fits the brand. Please educate me.

    • @the1916companywatchreviews
      @the1916companywatchreviews  5 лет назад

      I believe that the goal is to target FP Journe and Patek buyers. The Journe buyer is lured by LF's ready availability of steel (not so at Journe) and willingness to accommodate special requests and customs (also not so at Journe). The Patek buyer might be enticed by something of comparable quality but greater exclusivity. Check out the Galet Traveller Cloisonne to see a significant example of why I consider the Patek buyer a LF target.

Given how well the new double balance is doing i am surprised there isn’t more attention on these. Are there just not many on the market? I wonder what the production #’s are.

      WatchBox Reviews Thank you for the response Tim!! Really appreciate it. Very excited about the watch - trying it on Monday. The watch I’ve been wearing most is 5164r - and want to give it a rest and change things up (favorite watch I’ve ever owned at any price point). Do you have an idea of how many were produced of the 15305or? Amazing how few seem to be on the market. With the premiums for the new 41 skeletons (dont fit me) - confusing why these haven’t gone up more (not that i care), just a fascinating dynamic. Do you think its a good buy? It would look very at home in a Bond film. But Omega needs to stay on-brand, and I can't see a peripheral model getting serious $creen time. That said, I could imagine this as a flamboyant Bond villain's watch in a 007 film.
