    I'm a Male and I literally never looked down on a woman just because she's a women, and I'm still automatically called sexist because I'm conservative.

      I am a woman. When other women find out I'm conservative, they think I'm a submissive, oppressed, baby factory. Feminism is awful!

    Modern feminism is not about equality, it's about using emotional slogans to gain political power.
    Since conservatives don't seek excuses to divide society into opposing groups and social advocacies - it's unlikely that they will classify themselves as 'feminists'.

    You can see the crazy in her face. Everything she says is great but I fear as usual the devil is in the details. I fear she doesn't even understand what feminism is. Nobody is stopping women from staying at home and being moms.

    her message was a little vague, but it was basically for women who aren't on the far left end of the progressive viewpoint. for self identified conservative and libertarian women, and it was basically not to abandon feminism as an ideal. to many young today 2nd wave 60's feminism is all they know of feminism, and why a good number of them reject it. she brought up earlier feminists to try to advance the idea feminism is for all women not just radical progressives

    I just gave up on feminism too bad I didn't hear this first

  • @TheQualityrkc
    @TheQualityrkc 11 лет назад +1

    But thats the thing. She fails to mention why self identified conservative women oppose feminism in the first place and how their brand differs. Like I said the devil in the details and the "different but equal" comment sends of alarm bells because we know the only universal difference between men and women is physical. But with such obvious physical differences I wonder why would it be necessary for her to say "equal but different" unless she is going beyond just comparing physical traits.

    I agree the MRA's haven't done as much to change society but the points they are particularly good on are family law related men's rights and systemic inequality in the justice system against men (victims of false rape accusations). like I said they have some legitimate issues like feminism but they slip almost as often as they climb.

    Sommers is obviously not aware of all the different types of feminist thought, much less the debate about intersectionality. Feminism is the radical idea that women are people - if you want to call that radical.

    the video was addressing the concerns of not just conservative women politically but right of centre and libertarian oriented women, ie small government freedom minded people (historically liberal but that label hasn't been accurate for 60+ years). Radical as the speaker intended the term was not just left of centre radicals but also right of centre ones too. watching a video to its end usually leads to smarter posts.

    "the video was addressing the concerns of not just conservative women politically but right of centre and libertarian oriented women, ie small government freedom minded people (historically liberal but that label hasn't been accurate for 60+ years). " What are those concerns. Her message was vague you must admit. Feminism did exactly what it was intended to do, allow women to pursue whichever lifestyle they feel is best for them. Feminism is a libertarian principle already so what is she sayin?

    Ick!!! This sounds grody. I am a man and a feminist. It sounds like she is unaware of where feminism has gone since 1983. And, no, I can't see how conservatives or libertarians could be feminists.
    There need to be laws to protect women's rights- laws specifically for women's rights!

  • @LeGioNoFZioN
    @LeGioNoFZioN 11 лет назад

    I don't think she needs to make the case why conservative and libertarian women tend to eschew feminism when her point was to reach out to the women who do to make the case that they shouldn't or needn't do so. I'm not arguing her point because I agree, I am no egalitarian, at least not doctrinally. I'm simply trying to summarize what she said as I understood it.

  • @Rationalist411

    Reading your comments here is sad. All you do is argue using ad hominem and support a comment that is nothing but an ad hominem. You may think you have defended your opinion, but you haven't done anything. You should look at Graham's hierarchy of disagreement. Your arguments don't even go past level 2. I'm pretty sure you think you defended your point well, but any intelligent person can see you haven't.

    There you go attacking me. There's many ways to argue, but using ad hominiems don't prove anything. They are pointless. It's an informal fallacy, which is proved to be invalid. I won't resort to your low behavior. I didn't say my political beliefs. I don't have any because like Nietzsche I have evolved further from such stupid labels. I thought maybe you were smart enough to argue like an adult and maybe I'd get to see a compelling argument from you. I was wrong. You are blocked.

    Why not? Most of them hold so many contradictory notions anyway. You know, like limited government intervention into our lives unless it applies to segments of the population deemed "unclean" by a deity that is supposed to be separate from the state.

  • @marsCubed
    @marsCubed 11 лет назад

    Conservatism by definition is tradition, including gender role & authoritarian dogma (ie, "tradition" is not debate or reason).
    Usually religious to justify property, ownership & police force (capitalist state). status quo.
    Capitalism can be progressive, Marx describes how women being cheaper labour meant they were absorbed into engineering (like Asia today), where they were able to form unions & increase pay, improve economic status etc.
    kicking out conservative dogmas & reducing inequality.

    Mark my words... this is marketing at its worst. What is "maternal feminism"? What does "maternal feminism" mean? What is the "conservative tradition feminism"? (Prohibition?) Cuz it sounds like "I am better because I can make a sandwich.. feminism" ... it sounds like "I have a vagina, and deserve extra scrutiny and second class citizenship feminism"... "Freedom Feminism" sounds like good old fashioned "Not Feminism" and certainly "Not Freedom". Orwell's calling... he wants his book back.

  • @LeGioNoFZioN
    @LeGioNoFZioN 11 лет назад

    I know a few anecdotal stories, but that surely wouldn't be sufficient to ascribe to all conservative and libertarian minded women. for what it is worth, in general terms I think a good number of right of centre folks think of feminism what left of centre folks do of MRA's.
