I was going to say the same. I can't believe they didn't comment on that fire drum beat. Just fantastic and it kept the song moving at a galloping pace that just never stopped...
David Teegarden laid down one track, then overdubbed another track on top of that. It makes it sound like there's 2 drummers. You can tell where every other snare hit is slightly out of time. It was an awesome feature for the song's beat.
What else is there to say about the great Bob Seger, that we all haven't said many times before? A staple of 70s Rock music, and a great storyteller. Glad I grew up listening to 60s and 70s Classic Rock. Throw in that Motown sound, and some R&B as well. We were spoiled. Tanks guys!
Dusty, you hit the nail on the head.. it was the apex of quality, quantity along with variety.. 60s and 70s, the two greatest decades for music.. Those musicians,,singers, lyricists, etc born in the 1940s through the early 50s dominated the music scene and produced legendary music, masterpieces.. unmatched and sadly we will never see the likes of it again! So glad I was there for most of it!
We really were lucky growing up with this music on the radio, or the 8-track, or cassette...those were the heady days of what would later become..."Classic Rock" Rock ON!!!
I live between Detroit and Ann Arbor where Seger grew up. In this area Seger is royalty - truly revered. Glen Frey got to know and play with Seger while Frey was still in Highschool. Seger wanted Frey to go on tour with him, but Frey's mom wouldn't let him. They remained good friend's till Frey's death.
Yes! I loved The Ark! It was the last place I got together with my buddy, Rick Danko! We had a bit of a party in his tour bus, then Rick died just months later. Long live Detroit rock’n roll! Peace
Fame, riches, romance it's all fleeting. Seger knows how to put it all together lyrically and in sound. You are right Seger does not miss. You can't go wrong with the Silver Bullet Band and Bob Seger.
As a Detroit native, the album Live Bullet was issued to me at 9 years old. Now in Los Angeles this song has become a self-fulfilling prophecy, LOL! Spot on with your review but I'd add that without the music framing the story so well, Bob wouldn't shine like he does here. Love the title. American Savage! Great work as always gentlemen, thanks!
I think alot of young people who like R&B would like Bob Seger. They should give him a chance. He has such a soulful voice and like the guys said, his stories pull you in. I think a lot of people can identify with Bob’s lyrics in his songs. ❤
The woman in the song is Fame. The relentless forward motion of the music represents the the wild ride that the Midwestern Boy goes on, the non-stop rush, a ride that cannot be controlled.
Bob Seger ... WHAT A VOICE!!! I saw him in concert in the late 1970s, and he blew the roof off that place! Mind-bending voice, and an astounding songwriter.
One of the great American singer/songwriters of the seventies and eighties.....telling us stories of how we live our lives here, what can happen to us and how we feel.....and the memories of it all!
Excellent analysis of a Classic Bob Seger tune. If you're going to deep dive I'll recommend, "Roll Me Away", "Even Now" + "Feel Like A Number" three rockers w great stories.
What drew me in first and foremost was that drum beat. Throw in the lyrics and you got 🔥. By far my favorite song from Seger. Go back and listen to the precision of the drumming. OMFG! This song just smokes from start to finish.
Bob is one of the greatest story tellers of all time. And, I have never found a bad song on any of his albums. Hearing him brings back memories of seeing him live in 76. I was 16 watching one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life! What a national treasure.
Now that was a reaction! So glad you two shared where it took ya. 😄 I suppose the main problem now, worse than what you describe about then, is that Hollywood is a boarded up tent city.
Bob is an American treasure with all his stories, great music, and exceptional vocals!A truly great album is this one; Stranger In Town with this song Old Time Rock’n Roll and many more great songs!
I love how you guys love "The American Savage" Bob Seger. Thank you for reacting to his music. One I know you'll like is Roll Me Away. Give it a listen.
Haven't looked it up on your channel but if you haven't checked out "Roll me Away" by Bob Seger your going to LOVE IT, another great story, guaranteed "banger"❗️❗️
I am not a huge Seger fan, but this is a good song. Ironically, I live in Hollywood FL, but I did live in Glendale for about a year when I was younger, so it does have more meaning. anyways, consider yourself lucky to grow up in that lovely place. still the same is another great song by seger.
I'm old enough that I recall Seger first coming on the scene nationally; I was hooked on his music IMMEDIATELY. Been a fan ever since. So glad you're catching up to him. He has SO MANY bangers!
Its a fast story about fast times that leave you broken hearted and you don't even know what just happened. The tempo of the song is critical to the tension of the story.
Bob Seger is one of those artists who was under the mainstream eyeballs for years. He’d been playing since the 70s , churning out songs that everyone knows, but don’t realize who it is. Another Detroit artist he took under his wing before he went out on his own was Glen Frey of the Eagles before the Eagles. The Eagles were 70s, that’s enough to let you know of Segers longevity.
loved ya'll story about Hollywood and LA. My sister lives there and I go visit from here in Baton Rouge and I can't wait to get home after a few days there.
I agree with all the great comments here! I honestly didn't appreciate Bob Seger enough in the 70's / 80's. We were so jaded with SO MUCH great music it was unbelievable. Now he is an American rock legend in my mind.
I only saw him once in concert but it was a great show. He has lots of hits and I know you have hit some. I suggest you do “ Her Strut” if you haven’t heard it.
I saw Bob’s last concert at cobo hall in Detroit, it was on a Sunday night that I’ll never forget- he played this song too, I think it was 1986 incredible!
Bob can definitely give off different vibes and tell good stories Fire down below is a good one and Sunspot baby is kinda funny Glad you are here to enjoy all this music and share your thoughts with us!!!
Shout out for wearing the Expos cap. Montreal was the home of Jackie Robinson's Triple-A team. The Expos drafted/developed Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Bill "Spaceman" Lee. Gary Carter, Andre Dawson, Tim Raines, and so many other talented guys were there. So many great memories
Bob Seger is a prolific lyricist. He is best storyteller in Rock and Roll. All his songs make their point lyrically. He is our favorite son from Michigan.
Thanks for reacting again to the fabulous Bob Seger. Your reactions are so good and you call it exactly as it is. Always enjoy Bob Seger songs and his storytelling. I think you would like Roll Me Away, one of his best. You have a great channel. 👏👏🥰
Hey guys I thought I'd suggest another new artist to check out, if interested. "Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time (Official Lyric Video)" (by the channel: Cyndi Lauper) --This song is from her debut album called "She's So Unusual" released in 1984 and was co-written by Cyndi Lauper and Rob Hyman. Rob Hyman is an American singer/songwriter, keyboardist and accordion player. He is also a producer and arranger; he is best known for being a founding member of the rock band "The Hooters." I enjoyed rocking with you two. Thanks for sharing.
Dude was one of the GOATs of storytelling 🔥
that drumming was relentless
I was going to say the same. I can't believe they didn't comment on that fire drum beat. Just fantastic and it kept the song moving at a galloping pace that just never stopped...
That is exactly the right word. 🙌🏼
Exactly! Relentless in the best sense. My fave Seger song and the drums are no small reason why!
David Teegarden was the drummer here.
David Teegarden laid down one track, then overdubbed another track on top of that. It makes it sound like there's 2 drummers. You can tell where every other snare hit is slightly out of time. It was an awesome feature for the song's beat.
In all my years I don’t think I’ve ever said this about an artist. But Bob Seger has never put out a bad song
Agreed ❗ He's amazing . I smiled through this whole song.
He makes me happy
Truer words were never said.
What else is there to say about the great Bob Seger, that we all haven't said many times before? A staple of 70s Rock music, and a great storyteller. Glad I grew up listening to 60s and 70s Classic Rock. Throw in that Motown sound, and some R&B as well. We were spoiled.

I grew up in Maine……and Seger used to royalty, it just doesn’t get better.
Singer, songr writer, story teller with Amazing vocals...!
A Rock & Roll Icon...!
ONE of the best singer songwriter of all time.
Fame, riches, romance it's all fleeting. Seger knows how to put it all together lyrically and in sound. You are right Seger does not miss. You can't go wrong with the Silver Bullet Band and Bob Seger.
Sometimes, I can't get over the DRUMMING in this song. Truly. 🤯
I seem to lose myself in it. It's not perfect, but it's fantastic! Cheers

They need to hear "Get Out of Denver" from that album! 😳🤪😎
“Issued”. Michigander here. So true. Live Bullet was required listening for Gen X kids.

Bob Seger, absolutely a legend, Detroit baby
I think alot of young people who like R&B would like Bob Seger. They should give him a chance.

Night Moves. Great story!!!
Bob always had that power.
One of the great American singer/songwriters of the seventies and eighties.....telling us stories of how we live our lives here, what can happen to us and how we feel.....and the memories of it all!
Writing lines with rhyming words is a gift, but when you can do it telling a detailed story, that's next level.
The bass is kicking!
Ultimate driving song .. those drums never stop :)
Yeah it can get you a few speeding tickets if you aint careful lol.
He's got so much soul...
Excellent analysis of a Classic Bob Seger tune. If you're going to deep dive I'll recommend, "Roll Me Away",

The hi hat goes hard.give the drummer some.and the lyrics is a definite bonus
Bob is one of the greatest story tellers of all time. And, I have never found a bad song on any of his albums. Hearing him brings back memories of seeing him live in 76. I was 16 watching one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life! What a national treasure.
This was the first song I remember hearing by Bob Seger on an 8 track tape in the late '70's! Great reaction y'all!
This is what I grew up listening to...
Now that was a reaction! So glad you two shared where it took ya. 😄
I suppose the main problem now, worse than what you describe about then, is that Hollywood is a boarded up tent city.

My favorite song, especially growing up in the valley just over those Hollywood Hills.
I am not a huge Seger fan, but this is a good song. Ironically, I live in Hollywood FL, but I did live in Glendale for about a year when I was younger, so it does have more meaning. anyways, consider yourself lucky to grow up in that lovely place. still the same is another great song by seger.

Pure rock n roller. He and the band learned their licks in the late 60's and it all paid off in spades down the road.
The man is a Legend 😎
Great song Bob is amazing, I don’t think he has a bad song. Thank you guys
Bob is up there with Bruce when it comes to story telling
I think everyone who moves to Southern California has that moment when he realizes he's fallen under it's spell....
Today, it’s a place to run away from…
Democrats destroyed California.
You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.
Its a fast story about fast times that leave you broken hearted and you don't even know what just happened. The tempo of the song is critical to the tension of the story.
