Bob Seger was inspired to write this song when he saw supermodel Cheryl Tiegs on the cover of a magazine. The whole story formed in his mind instantly. You mentioned his music is the Ultimate traveling music. To me this song is like a Steam Train speeding down the tracks. The snare drum sounds like the wheels of the Train clicking on the rails. I read, that Seger gave someone he knew a tape of this song before it was released. The guy was driving on the freeway in Los Angeles and started listening to the song, he said that without realizing it, he looked at his speedometer, and he was going 80 miles an hour. The song has that effect!

3:53 sometimes his music is referred to as heartland rock (whatever that means) but it’s really just straight-ahead rock and roll without any fancy s**t. J and his genres. smh Just call it rock n' roll! LOL For those of us who grew up listening to Seger, he's the foundation of our rock experience. I think that's especially strong for those of us from Michigan. He's the godfather of Detroit rock n' roll. I don't think he's ever made a bad song.
@@justjulesinmi eh, it ain’t J’s fault. Most of these genres were made up by journalists describing the music. My favorite song by him. To me, his music is a road trip by myself, driving the freeway at night. Window down and the cool air hitting me in the face. All his music is that to me.
"Travelin' Man/Beautiful Loser" is my favorite of Bob Seger, saw him several times in concert, he has so many great hits! Another good one is "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man."
His live album “Nine Tonight” is full of classic, classic rock. Each song a timeless gem. Each song surpassing its studio original. The perfect roadtrip album. Quick Story. When Bob first listened to this finished track in his car he found himself unaware of his speed and noticed he was going 90 m.p.h. He said the two drummers did that.
I love, love, love Night Moves, but this is my fave of his. LA is so full of hope, beauty, glamor, desperation and longing and they all exist together like a soup … “He knew right then he was too far from home” just captures all of it. Also, YOU KNOW HE MUST HAVE LIVED THIS SONG!!! just timeless and fantastic.
The drums are 2 complete drumset parts played on top of each other - if you really zero in one each ear of your headphones you can hear the 2 different hi hat parts going on. Also, the repetitive single then double snare hits were intended to simulate driving over expansion joints in the road which you don't run into very often anymore.
Bob Seger is in a genre all his own. Much like many groups of the 70s, Silver Bullet has a unique sound. See, back then we didn't really classify music into genres. Either you liked it or you didn't. For another side of Bob Seger you should react to the song 'Till It Shines' from this album. It's more mellow kind of in the vein of 'Mainstreet' but is one of his best songs lyrically imo.
With Christmas slightly more than 3 months away, you should start planning holiday tunes. You won't have any more fun than listening to Detroit's Bob Seger & The Last Heard performing "Sock It To Me Santa" from 1966. It even includes a minor homage to James Brown.
Bob Seger is very under appreciated imho. He’s a wonderful composer/lyricist/poet/storyteller/singer and his catalogue is amazing. I had the great fortune to see him live in the early 80’s and it was a fantastic show. He’s right up there in the top ten rock gods in my book. Great choice guys 🌺✌️

Bob Seger is the most underrated, singer songwriter, and live performer of all time
Is in the Rock Hall and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Excellent, my favourite Bob Seger song!
Fire Inside gets my blood cranking like Hollywood nights!
Ramblin' Gamblin' Man was his first hit I think, great song.
His song writing skills are top notch.
Bob Seger has the perfect Rock & Roll voice!
This is the music that will make you drive 120mph on the highway. ❤❤
You gotta do the LIVE version. Beautiful. We should build a traveling man, traveling man and beautiful loser

As an Aussie rotary exchange student living in Weatherford Oklahoma in '78 , this great track was a fav when released in that summer before becoming a sooners fan too and going to games in Norman OK during that fall. Great memories. You 2 do so many wonderful song reviews...keep it up 👌
Ive been following you two for about 6 months. I can say, from my 77 years of life experiences, YOU guys are blessed. Truly.
Peace be with you. ❤
He put on an epic performance at the BOK center in Tulsa. The acoustics were amazing! ❤
Bod Seger's "Understanding" is really good too. BUT ALL OF HIS SONGS ARE❤❤❤❤❤
Amber charmed me all over again with her story at the end. This is why your my fav YT page. Those drums and that amazing baseline are the engine room of this song. Love Bob.
My papa loved Bob Seger, especially because it reminded him of my brother, Patrick, who unfortunately was killed by a drunk driver at the young age of 23. Patrick really loved Bob Seger too. ❤
Hands down my favorite Bob Seger song, and one of the great songs of rock, period. Classic.

This is my husband and I. He moved from Detroit in 1977 to San Francisco where he met me, California girl. Forty three years later, we are in Detroit. You never know where life takes you. Thanks Bob for the memories.
Bob Seger is a total VIBE!! LOVE HIM! So many fantastic tunes! Thanks for sharing more of his tunes!!🙌🌞🙏❤❤❤❤
A great storyteller in this song. Look at Seger's body of work and imagine him in concert.
He is a Great writer and storyteller with his descriptive lyrics you can see everything he’s singing about!!!!
Bob Seger is my Karaoke go-to. Impresses all the older peeps in the crowd 🤣
This song reminds me of my wife and me driving down Sunset in my TR6 and this came on radio and I thought that a lot of people would love to be doing this and how lucky we were, this was on a nice fall day in 1978
I grew up in Michigan so Bob was a religion. This is my favorite of his songs. What mid-west kid didn't want to go to Hollywood when you are growing up? I did finally get there for a few years in the 80s. It was a great place to visit but I would not want to live there.
