  • We had the great opportunity of meeting up with one of the first 2024 Ranger Raptors out to the general public to go offroading with our 2023 Colorado ZR2 to see the differences. We test out articulation, going through mud puddles, and do high speed on washboard roads. Thanks for watching and subscribe to see more! See you in the next video!

    That 3.0 Ecoboost in the Raptor alone makes it a winner in my book over the horrible sounding 2.7 4cly

      2.7 stock doesn't really have an exhaust sound to it. You just hear turbo noises from the engine bay. The 3.0 is definitely an amazing engine.

    The ZR2 looks higher off the ground and more off-road worthy. They both have the same ground clearance but the Ranger looks lower to the ground. It may be the running boards on the Ranger. If it were mine I may remove those. The engine in the Ranger thou is totally awesome and I would choose it over the ZR2S 2.7 liter 4 banger ever time although the 2.7 is not a bad engine but it can’t compare to the V6 TURBO of the Ranger. Overall I think the Chevy ZR2 is the better truck and cost 6 GRAND LESS.

    • @outlandishoverland
      @outlandishoverland  6 месяцев назад

      Ranger was for sure lower to the ground in the front than the ZR2. That v6TT is for sure a beast but I agree you save quite a bit of money with going with the ZR2.

      Ranger is lower but it’s not meant for rock crawling. It’s meant for Baja running. And it has plenty of suspension travel for Baja running.

    Worst conclusion ever: “Those trucks are different tools for different jobs, is a hammer better than a plybar?” seriously? You are not comparing a Porsche 911 with a Raptor, you are comparing the Off-road trim of 2 mid size truck. Those trucks cannot be more orange to orange, they are built for the exact same purpose. Tell us which one is more comfortable to sit in? which one rides better? which one had the better suspension at high speed? better articulation at slow speed? I mean come on, you are the first non journalist on youtube to offroad both side by side and there was no comparison being made at all. What a missed opportunity.

    • @outlandishoverland
      @outlandishoverland  6 месяцев назад +13

      Again not my truck. The owner of the Ranger Raptor just wanted to get out and enjoy his truck for the first time. I wouldn't consider them oranges to oranges due to the price difference. Price wise the ZR2 is more comparable to a Ranger Lariat FX4 than a Raptor. A more fair comparison would be a ZR2 Bison against a Raptor. You can see in the video several times of full articulation in which the Ranger Raptor does have slightly better articulation over the ZR2 in which I mention having that wider track does help. Can't comment on which one rides better as I would have to drive both vehicles back to back which again wasn't my vehicle, the owner was just excited to be out there driving the truck he purchased. I would have loved to do more obstacles for a better comparison but unfortunately the owner of the Raptor had limited time that day. Both great trucks and I'm no journalist by any means. Just an enthusiast that loves the outdoors and off-roading and wanted to share my experiences with people like you. 👍

      @@outlandishoverland first off, I apologize for the tone, I was frustrated to diligently watch a video for 10 min expecting the first ever RUclips video comparing those 2 models and it ended up not being the case. Secondly, I don’t agree with you about those vehicles not being comparable. Yes the price is a bit different, but that’s why you compare them. When you compare 2 TVs, they gonna have different price point, that doesn’t mean you don’t compare them. If there was nothing different about those truck there wouldn’t be anything to compare. Point is, those 2 trucks are the exact same category and concluding by saying they are very different tool for different need is just the opposite of the truth. It’s also a frustrating overheard conclusion “they are both good, pick what you like”, well if people watch comparisons it’s because they want an opinion to help them choose. Just à recommandation for your future videos.

    • @outlandishoverland
      @outlandishoverland  6 месяцев назад +2

      @@birdymeo Understandable and appreciate the apology. They are both great trucks just comes down to what you want. The ZR2 suspension can do 85-90% of what the Raptor can do. As much as I want to pick a favorite I can't because both are amazing trucks and I had deposits on both trucks just the ZR2 came in first. Are you looking for power, high speed offroading and jumping for the sand dunes and Baja style offroading, the Raptor is your better pick. If you are looking at a more rock crawling, going down narrow trails and more of an "overland" build I would go the ZR2.

    • @x_Heffe_X

    These aren’t different tools. They were literally made for the same job. You had both together. Ride quality comparison? Interior comfort/room comparison? Handling? Heck, I think most people watching this would be stoked with the signal tone for the lane changer. Missed opportunity.

    • @outlandishoverland
      @outlandishoverland  6 месяцев назад +4

      As I mentioned in a previous comment, for a lot of the points you made I would have to have driven the vehicle. The owner just got the truck and he just wanted to go out and hit some trails and wasn't going to take that away from him, he bought the truck obviously he is going to want to use it. We also had limited time together as he had other things to do the day of filming. I would love to do these comparisons hopefully in the future but due to the circumstances I wasn't. I meant different tools as the Raptor is more high horsepower, bombing down desert roads "baja" focused and the ZR2 more so for crawling through rocks and exploring your local trails. Can each of the trucks do both, yes, just one will do it better than the other in certain scenarios. I would hopefully love to revisit this in the near future once the Raptor is broken in and even possibly do a drag race. I'm just thankful for the opportunity to even go offroading with a Ranger Raptor, even if it was for such a short time.

    Interesting comments. boils down to this Ford people will choose the Raptor. Chevy people will choose the zr2. You can not go wrong on which you choose. Remember they are trucks not cars so the ride is going to be like a truck as they should be! If a truck rides like a car they are not worth having. Like the Pro4x people bitch because of the steering .The older generation grew up on those so it makes no difference. The modern generation is weak. Some bitch the engine on the Pro4x is old out dated. MAYBE but they are proven they are way easier cheaper than turbo charged engines to work on. If you like the Raptor then buy it if you like the Zr2 then buy it. If you want to buy a Pro4x and add the front locker later on then buy it. go by what you can afford.

    When it comes to off road both trucks are capable of the same thing unless pushed to the extreme of either side that be it on trails or Baja style. Although it’s much more difficult and expensive to build a quality Baja truck than it is to build a trail truck. For example take a jk for example that jeep with lockers can do everything the zr2 can however that same jeep would need a lot of money thrown at it for it to hang with the raptor in the Baja 1000

    Both of these trucks are very capable for generic off-roading. I think it is crazy that Ford is offering a new truck with no moonroof or ventilated seat options. I pick up my ZR2 on Saturday. I chose the ZR2 because I figure that I'll use the moonroof and ventilated seats more often then I would use the extra power in the Raptor. The fact that the ZR2 was priced lower made the decision that much easier.

    Neither are the answer. Both are overpriced and get terrible gas mileage and less towing capacity in relation to their lower trims with their only advantage to go fast over dirt roads which is nothing but a thrill ride and serves no purpose. For the Colorado it's the only way to get lockers so that's a no go. At least with the Ford, you can get a rear locker in any trim for $500 and it'll be a decent machine when the 2024 gets the 2.7L. The Colorado lower trim grenade locker is a joke.

    • @outlandishoverland
      @outlandishoverland  6 месяцев назад

      I mean you don't buy an offroading truck for gas mileage and I've come to find the ZR2 EPA rating is extremely low from my personal experience. Well, if you really want to go "offroading" then just buy a Jeep or 2 Door Bronco. The purpose of the truck is really "multi purpose" for those that can only afford one vehicle. And with gas at $5/gallon premium (which you should be running in these higher compression engines), it makes a difference that one can't ignore. I can't afford either, so yeah, that's my relative perspective. Thanks for the reply. :-)
