I enjoy my ZR2 and seeing the TRD PRO and Ranger Raptor doesn’t give me any buyers remorse. The ZR2 isn’t a Raptor, but it’s very capable of driving fast off road on the DSSVs, and it’s also a very capable crawler thanks to the approach angle. The real difference is that the Raptor sounds great, it’s faster, and it has a better seat up front. The ZR2 gets ventilated seats, but the 2.7 gains on the 3.0 as a truck engine. The 2.7s have been in the silverados since 2019 and they’re seeing 150-200k without issues. The 3.0 is an awesome engine, but it’s a higher compression, and there have been issues with the 3.0 in the past.
My dealer said they're only getting two raptors allocated for the 2024 calendar year. And since they have over 20 orders they are charging $5K for those first orders due to supply and demand. And if the order owner doesn't want it then the dealer will sell the raptor for $10k markup. So if I wanted a raptor I'd probably wait up to 3-4 years to get one without paying the $5K markup. The ZR2 I could order and buy right now and have it built and delivered within three-four months for MSRP including some discounts. So for me, the ZR2 makes most sense.
Supposedly the ZR2 rocksliders (although they are body mounted) capable of supporting the whole weight of the truck. If that’s true (please, confirm if you can) then you should be able to lift the truck via the rocksliders to change tires etc.
I cannot confirm not sure if you can lift the weight of the vehicle by the sliders or not. But if they are body-mounted I would not try lifting the truck from them personally. I do believe they will hold up really well to off-road use and we get them as part of the package unlike the Raptor where you would have to spend $1,700 bucks to get sliders for it.

I do. I think all the trucks today are capable of going 200k miles. But I expect all of them to require substantial cost of repair to get there. I'm guessing a few grand in repairs (3-7k). Again this is just my personal opinion so take it only for what it's worth. I think problems will start at around 120k miles on all brands. I personally would buy an extended warranty and have it on any vehicle I own today. I don't trust any manufacturer today to build anything that is going to be problem free. And parts and labor cost are theu the roof.
I disagree with you on the longevity and long-term maintenance of the GM turbo, simply because of how much time, effort, and testing GM did to make these new turbo gassers robust and ready to serve the life of the truck. This engine isn't the turbo gasser of the past, where the turbo was an after afterthought. These were built to take the wear and tear and have been proven in GM full-size trucks before coming to the mid-size market. Nice video, tho!
Not sure what made you think I was knocking the colorado 2.7. I was not. It's not going to last as long as the v6 twin turbo of the ford (just basic physics) but I love the 2.7
This isn’t a hard decision at all. One vehicle, you can go to a dealership today and buy it. The other vehicle, has the same characteristics as a unicorn. You hear about it, you read about it but you’ll actually never see one with your own eyes. The Tacoma TRD Pro., it’s like an alien sighting. People claim to have seen one, but most have never seen one with their own eyes. So there’s really only one option here unless you get abducted or get sucked into a cartoon.

Both ate excellent. The nod I give to the raptor is it's a twin turbo v6. But thst edge I said in minimal. Given all the variables today I would not bet on witch one last longer. It could go either way. But statistically the v6 should ha e an edge in longevity
The 3.0 is a less stressed engine for very similar hp and same torque. Bigger displacement, twin turbos and more cylinders generate the power with less effort so if everything else is equal (which of course we don’t know) should last longer.
Once he said the raptors engine was better durability with no cited reason, then said hp doesn’t matter in a truck (only torque) I dropped this warning and stopped the video.
There is no comparison!! The Zr2 power is a joke and the passenger front seat is junk!!! Go for a ride in one you will be begging to get out. As far as the price difference it's because GM won't give you a power seat for the passenger side! One thing is true the back seat is more comfortable than the passenger front seat. And to top it off take the zr2 through a car wash and the roof will pop every time unless you get the sunroof. So you get what you pay for buyer beware 😢
Ill buy the toyota tacoma trd pro when it releases.. GM 8 spd is shit, i had 2 and both had a shimmy. My dads 6.2 chevy with 8 spd, same thing. Frankly it’s an easy choice. Hate money? Buy the Ford. Zr2 is 96% the same truck and is a valid daily driver unlike the Raptor. I’m not bashing the Ford at all, this is a great season of competition but GM will be sweeping the floor in sales because of price.

Zr2 is definitely more available
Raptor only because of the v6 power plant
V6 sure is nice!
Do both trucks have front lockers?
Both trucks do have front lockers.
Yes.
@@Jason-SamkoJEEP should take initiative and put “LOCKERS” as available option on “WILLY’s” models not everyone wants to
Spend bigger $$$$ on Rubicon’s 🤬🤬🤬🤬
@MrJEEPJT the willys now come with standard rear locker. So a step in the right direction. But you are correct jeep pisses me off alot with the things is should do bit thry don't. Like a front locker on the Mojave!
@@Jason-Samko It must be something very new. I was having a conversation with a co-worker who has a 2022 Willy’s he was telling me he’s got a limited slip jeep calls
Track-Lok. My gladiator is a sport model with an open differential. I leased it but my next one will be special order I want the Payload package which includes wide-track axles and rear limited slip.Next gladiator I’m purchasing.
What exactly about the raptor motor do you give it the longevity edge? The 2.7L turbo seems ultra proven and well designed.
@@is6566 very well said
@@is6566true. Anyone who says that 50% more cylinders doesn't aid in longevity is not being serious.
Big difference in ranger and raptor interior
I agree. I hate my 2021 Ranger back seat. I do a lot of camping and that back seats aren’t useful.
Yep ford dropped the ball in the back seat area comparatively
What if you could get a raptor for invoice
@RonPoulin-p7j I'd still take the zr2 personally. But that would be a great find on the raptor ranger
I have the Raptor and yes you can put 35s on without any modifications
Good to know. And congratulations on such a great truck
Once he said the raptors engine was better durability with no cited reason, then said hp doesn’t matter in a truck (only torque) I dropped this warning and stopped the video.
Cool. Thanks for warning everyone
Ford dealers will make it pretty easy when they will mark the Raptor up.
I'm expecting insane mark up on most of thr raptors...it's ford's way. Hopefully they learn a lesson soon and stop it.
Zr2 you can get a sunroof. 50k + and no sunroof 😢
Zr2 sure is priced very well for how much truck you get
@@itsallminor6133 in a truck sun roof open and all windows down causing trails is very nice
@itsallminor6133 those are fantastic points as well. Points I didn't even think about and I'm a photographer 😂
The Raptor is great if your are 5 foot 1
Gee I would love to hear where you came up with that.first off I'm 6 ft and fit great second it has more legg room then the chevy.lol
The best is buy both all is done😂😂😂
Even if I didn't buy both, just to be in the position to say I could would make me very happy😂
I have drove 2 zr2s. Love them. Would be my first choice but still a tough choice
@SamkoWorkShop I own a 2024 zr2 and it's not what the old generation was. The new one is a joke
@@DeanShaffer-ed7hb what don't you like about it?
Dude, you just contradicted yourself. You can lose by buying the raptor. About 10 to 20 grand.
But to some people the extra options on the ranger are worth the extra cost
Ill buy the toyota tacoma trd pro when it releases.. GM 8 spd is shit, i had 2 and both had a shimmy. My dads 6.2 chevy with 8 spd, same thing. After multiple times in the service department they never got it right. I like the ford as my wife has the explorer st with the same engine. No problems with it so far.
It's not the same 8-speed. There are no complaints on any '23 or '24 Canyon/Colorado transmission issues.
Tacoma is a great truck. Pricey but a great truck
Total Ripoff Dude!
The issues with the 8-speed have been fixed, and in most cases it just needed different fluid.
@@Holden-McGroin I understand they may be fixed now. I had to fight it for 5 years through 2 vehicles , a c7 Corvette and a Silverado. That'll give you a bad taste in your mouth for GM. I'll buy everything else but GM
Ok so im going to try to be nice here.sir.you admit you have not even driven a raptor ranger.so how can you compare anything.let me help you.I bought a colorado zr2 bison.lasted 2 weeks.the engine is a complete joke.you keep saying things are a wash.again you never driven one.i bought a ranger raptor.its not even in the same league. Suspension is not in the same league.you say interior is better in zr2? Again you never been in one?interior is not even in the same league if you did your homework you would know the seats in ranger was but spacifically for the ranger the seats in the colorado are not comfortable.yiu say they both do the same.lol dude you never even sat in a raptor how can you say that? Lol they are not even in the same league.please educate yourself.
Sounds like the ranger is perfect for you. Glad you found a vehicle you like.
You have no idea what you are talking about. I have driven both and your comment on the motor/power like you actually know something. The power characteristics of the Ford are much more responsive off the bottom, frankly the ZR2 is very laggy off the bottom in comparison...
Don't give opinions on something you know nothing about..
😂😂 love this. It's very funny
@@Jason-Samko Its funny you have zero actual experience and don't know what you are talking about. Got to love them internet experts.
@@scrappyjackalope9558 glad we got that sorted
Frankly it’s an easy choice. Hate money? Buy the Ford. Zr2 is 96% the same truck and is a valid daily driver unlike the Raptor. I’m not bashing the Ford at all, this is a great season of competition but GM will be sweeping the floor in sales because of price.
U know u can option the zr2 to be like 10k over the RR right? And idk man 96% is a stretch they are very similar in many ways but have some important differences.
ZR2 bison is 60k. Loaded Raptor is 59k.
@@davidwethington9320 go on Chevys website and see what happens when u select the bison package for the zr2. It’s 60k! And that’s it now if u wanna add more packages so that it has the same amount of features and a few more as a RR it’s gonna be minimum 65k and that won’t include the sunroof or premium sound
Optioned for similar specs, the price is basically the same
@@fanboiahoy260and that wouldn’t include the bison package. Not to mention with the RR ur getting 100 more HP adaptive coil overs a v6 TT watslink rear end 10 speed better seats adj exhaust, suspension, and steering feel. The Colorado is a great looking truck with more creature comforts but for the price the RR is definitely giving u the most. Honestly both these trucks do small things better than one another like Chevy with the split folding rear seat and physical buttons for the lockers but they don’t have a physical switch for the headlights. If u could combine these two trucks and take all the best aspects it would be the ultimate truck hands down.
