    There is a big problem with people spreading misinformation about POD, Etsy, Amazon KDP, and Audible lately who have little to no experience in those fields. Thank you for making this video. When I started out, I fell for a lot of bad advice from those people.

    Mark immediately lost me when he said he's run/sold million-dollar companies, yet he makes videos about POD. I suppose many folks DO have million-dollar POD businesses. But for a man with that apparent level of business skill, POD seems like small potatoes and wouldn't be worth his time.

    Thank you Shimmy for your honesty! I watched quite a few videos that preach the passive income and almost a year ago opened a shop. I've worked most days, a couple of hours a day and had no
    sales. Then I watched some of yours and a couple of other true POD sellers. I even had you do a shop audit. I gleaned the truth, implemented some of your suggestions, started working on my shop for many hours a day, sometimes 12-15hrs and finally started seeing sales. I work on designing, mockups, my SEO. I do a lot of research as well. Each day I focus on something different. One day I spend researching, next designing, then publishing. Divide your days up and focus on one thing at a time. I also published 4-6 products a week and I put my designs on multiple products. What drives me nuts is they always assume any one Etsy seller who is making even a conservative 5% profit at 4k net per month has no other overhead and it's just pure profit.
    We don't know how much of that profit goes to taxes or to paid ads.
    Just because a listing does not appear as sponsored this "guru" has zero clue if the seller is running Google ads, Facebook ads, Pinterest ads or any combination thereof.
    Many times when you see that volume of sales it's because you are either running ads and driving lots of traffic to your listings or you have built up a large audience over time through your own site and have collected tons of emails.
    After factoring in ad spend that 4k he calculated could be down to 1k or less.
    Nobody ever talks about the possibility of ad spend. 🤦‍♀️

    If you do a reaction video, then at least try an be honest about the content you are reacting to, rather than skipping and choosing the bits that you feel you can kind of work an argument around that fits your narative. If anything it feels like you are merely attempting to draw views from his clout. Now, having watched his video as well, after watching yours, a couple of things stand out:
    1) he doesn't claim that PoD is a simple setup-and-forget-about-it project. Had you shown it in your video, your viewers would have seen that he has put together a fairly extensive list of things to do and look out for, to research, the work you need to put into it, etc. But that wouldn't have fit your narrative.
    2) you claim he doesn't back up his claim that he has done PoD in the past (ie. his wall art reference), however, if you actually watch his video, he actually overlays his old video where he talks about that exact project. I don't think he has any links to those videos in his description but then again a quick look through his channel and those videos are easy enough to find.
    3) You say that he doesn't dive into the "hidden costs" such as shipping, payment processing, fees, and so on... but then you skip directly over the section in the video where he talks about exactly that.
    There are many more points but over and over it feels like you are merely just trying to fit something around your narrative. I find that considerably more misleading than his video.

    • @shimmymorris1
      @shimmymorris1  5 месяцев назад

      Sorry you feel this way.
      His last pod video was also just a sponsored ad. He has never done pod before and he’ll admit that if questioned.
      His entire video was a giant ad for gelato. Which he didn’t disclose which is actually illegal.
      I watched his entire video and not only did he claim it’s simple, but by missing out most the steps he made it look a lot more simple than it was.
      I’m not even gna go into all the misinformation in his video as he clearly has never done it and was reading a script.
      I know this as well because gelato have reached out to me on many occasions to make them videos and when I don’t say exactly what they want. They pull the promo.
      He also very much does not dive into all the costs and that’s because he doesn’t know them.
      Look at the end of the day I like marks
      Content. I think it’s usually very valuable I just think he strayed far from his lane in this one all for a big payday from gelato.
      Just don’t try and fool anyone especially someone who’s been knee deep in pod for 10 years.

    I think you saved me a lot of hassle here brother. I’ve been following Mark for the last few months and like you mention in the video his content is enjoyable. I’m an amateur photographer who loves heading out and snapping beautiful landscapes and after watching Mr Tilbury he had the dollar (GBP 😅) signs rolling in my eyes. Here I am with a few print ideas uploaded to Gelato and in the process of linking my Etsy I just completely gave up. His timelapse clips make everything look so straight forward when uploading to websites etc. anyways I’ve already had second thoughts and this vid has confirmed that I’m just not cut out for the hassle of POD. I feel like I should research Shopify before completely giving up but thank you so much for the insight about Mark. I defo’s felt the ‘paid sponsor’ vibe with those passive income videos.

    I think a major problem is also that the average person does not have a lot of business sense (I.e running a business, hidden costs, taxes, etc), simply because they aren’t exposed to how a business runs, and so they fall into the trap of these videos and think these methods are easy/passive. It’s very easy to fall into this trap, especially if someone is unhappy with their current job.

  • @dqschannel
    @dqschannel 5 месяцев назад +3

    I just started with POD and you are right that it's not a passive income as there is a lot of research you need to do for every design and quote you use. The biggest obstacle will be traffic, no traffic no sales no matter how great your designs are and that is where I am stuck, no traffic. I promote on other SM platforms and I get very little if any traffic. At the moment paid traffic is out of the question.

    There's also the point to be made this probably won't make you money anyways, since if it *was* profitable, anyone with two braincells would keep their mouth zipped tightly shut, to avoid having new competitors in their niche. They're only saying it now because it's more profitable to rake in ad revenue telling people all about your "side hustle" than the actual side hustle actually is. Honestly, seeing this so called businessman sets all my alarms on fire as he notoriously uses the tactic of brain disablement with "dream life/situation" projection (driving Bugatti in Dubai) as from that point it's highly probable that people watching that would stop thinking and would believe this nonsense. It reminds me of Herbalife seller presentation or any pyramid schemes business models that would lie to incomers just to force them with such psychological tricks to pour the money in so the people on the top of the pyramid would benefit.

    I like your content as well as Mark's. Right at the beginning you are intentionally cutting his video after like 8 seconds when he is actually saying what you are saying here, that the Bugatti reference is preciselly the hook many youtubers use. He is not telling you that POD is passive income that will make you rich but quite the opposite.
    You are actually saying the same, and in a sense, estating similar pros and cons. He claims he is only telling you how to start on the bussiness, just like some of your "How To videos". The rest is just his roadmap, that may be different to yours or other POD seller. All valid (or irrelevant).

    • @shimmymorris1
      @shimmymorris1  5 месяцев назад +1

      he states his video is all you need to start making money with POD and then references 30% profit margins, 10k a moth doing this specific method, methods that don't work, and elements that are actually just wrong... In actuality it's really not that simple.
      I have made simple how-to videos yes, but that's because my whole channel is dedicated to POD. So one can see a simple how to video on my channel then go and find in-depth tutorials, or even a totally free course.
      With Mark, this is a one of sporadic video claiming he has a successful POD business. If I went to his channel he'll have 1 or 2 other POD videos, also both sponsored by Gelato. Which is why it feels more of a money grab than actually wanting to create POD content .
      But I do like his content, it's usually really valuable and entertaining!

      And the fact that the youtube thumbnail has 2 other youtubers and the plural of "youtuber", but no mention of them in the video also isn't a good look. Ironic. @shimmy, you may want to consider putting "part 1" in the title and making a part 2 and 3... or just changing the thumbnail and title. Otherwise, just seems like you're using other people's faces and following to increase your own sub/viewer count.
