Came here to comment this. You should hear the revs blipping quickly at whatever rpm you set to launch at as well. The N dct cars have well programmed LC for fwd
The Elantra N is going to be an instant hit. I know people stick to what they know but jeez Hyundai is putting out some great affordable cars. I foresee them selling loads of these.

A big tip for successful launch control on the Elantra N is ensure you're in 'N Mode' with launch control activated, push down hard on the brake then quickly (and I mean very quickly) floor the accelerator. This will activate launch control. I own an Elantra N and the first couple times I tried launch control, it wouldn't work because I was too slow on flooring the gas.

2018+ Golf R with the 7 speed DSG is a beast, and the HP is even more underrated than the Hyundai N let alone with 94 octane. The Hyundai is good but it will not beat the Golf R.
I can't believe in 2019 you could get one fully equipped for around 26k. They came with summer tires and were around 200 pounds lighter! due to no sunroof etc
Too bad they are a little neutered compared to the Gti. Still great cars and good value too. Plus if you are okay with modifying, they are your best bet for the money. They can make 360whp+ on the stock turbo with just a downpipe, fuel pump, and a tune. A tune for the tcu and ecu is all it really needs because it’s so conservative from the factory
All the engines from Hyundai that have been developed under Albert Biermann are underrated from the factory ( 1.6T, 2.0T, 2.4T, 3.3TT/ 3.5TT etc ) just like the GLi is underrated too. It's just the way of ze Germans lol they rate their hp at the wheels.
@@cyrilmatthew2995 I had the n/a 1st gen 3.3V6 in an 06 Sonata I used to own back in the day. It was a great engine honestly. Had great torque and pulled good even in higher gears. Horrible mpgs tho even for the time. They were limited at 149mph tho and you could get them all the way up there. There's a few videos on yt of people doing so. Bout 6s flat 0-60 or so. It was definitely quicker than my gfs 2012 3.6V6 Malibu and that's rated at 20 more hp.
The Elantra has very good out of the box performance, that’s more comparable to a Golf R or an S3. The MK7 GLI is more of a blank canvas with more power to be gained through tuning and modifications. If I were to buy one to keep it stock I’m buying the Elantra but if I was buying one to mod I’m going all in on the GLI.

A lot of manufacturers use the 2.0 turbo set-up in a way that works best for their own 🚗💨 I think it's pretty cool how Hyundai & Kia are now using that 2.5L (Kia K5 GT & Hyundai sonata N-line) that's basically the big block 4-banger 290hp & 311tq needs LSD tho 🤷

Indeed, but the Gli is quite a bit quicker than those cars too. It’s somewhere in the middle of the lineup. The Gli is more luxury than sport when compared to the Gti, except it’s worse in both aspects

Between these three, I suspect performance comparison, it would be GLI (first), Elantra N-Line (second), and last place... Civic SI. In terms of budget and performance, the Elantra N-Line would be the clear winner. Again, all three cars are great vehicles and really depends on what you are looking for.
What tires does the Elantra N have on it from the factory? I have a 21 GLI and they run factory the all season H rated tires and they slip in every day driving like it’s nobody’s business. Dry pavement 85 degrees out try to pull out in-front of traffic it’s like driving on wet roads once boost builds around 2500 rpm. The only thing stopping them from letting loose under 2500 rpm is turbo lag.

That's an absolute savage ass car for a 4 banger turbo! Super quick & very good handling straight out of the box you put a tune on that car and if you can stick it to the ground easily 12.5@110mph+ I'm sure
I doubt if GR-C will be as quick as Elantra N. Yaris GR which is way lighter than Corolla with abit less HP does 0-60 in 5 secs. GR-C will probably be slower. Elentra N does it in 5 secs.
Wouldn't the N be a lot more equally compared with Golf R? Both are the drivers car instead of the GLI which is down about a hundred horsepower to the N.
isn't the 2.0t in the GLI/GTI underrated though? If not mistaken, they make close to 220-230 AT THE WHEEL which would put em at approx 250-260 crank. Still less power but not quite by 100 hp..... the R is AWD so my guess is that it would take the N at every dig race...then roll...well.... the R would still win tbh...it traps higher in the 1/4 mile (cuz , you know, underrated as well)... edit: I'd say the N is in the middle in terms of performance between the GLI and R...leaning more towards the R than GLI but still...not quite the competitor to the GLI but neither to the R (in terms of performance) but for the MONEY, indeed a competitor to the GLI...so.
I think a 2022 Volkswagen GLI vs 2022 Toyota GR86 will be a great match up. Both are priced fairly about the same and identical in horsepower. So far, I have not found a video on RUclips yet. I hope to see that comparisons on your channel first. Keep up the great content Sam!
Not sure why anyone would have a tough time figuring out which vehicle would win this race. Speaks highly to VW to run a car that produces 40+ hp... I guess the only reason is the nature of many 2.0T VWs that seem to put down more power than claiming on average. Put a $450 piggyback or a stage 1 tune, then make it an apples to apples race. No reason to mention a 2lb weight difference either as that would make them identical as far as a race goes - would be pretty hard to get any closer. Both nice cars, just an easy conclusion...
I am so glad you keep featuring the GLI on your channel. It's such a fun little car for it's price. The N is of course the KING if performance as far as these type of cars go. Seeing this makes me thing the tuned race might be neck and neck!

While I am far from a VW fanboy, the N is pretty similar in price to a GLI. The base Elantra can get a lot cheaper but the N is close enough to not make a big difference in price to a GLI

I was never expecting the GLI to walk away victorious, but I still think it did good despite its power deficit. Once that Elantra N hits in stride though there’s no much for the money that’s gonna catch it, but I think getting a Mk8 GTI out here with its newer powertrain would be interesting. C&D has the acceleration numbers for the Mk8 at closer to the Elantra N than the GLI.
This is exactly my thoughts. The GLI honestly did much better than expected. They have a stage 1 GLI vs a stock N coming up next. Should be very interesting, but if the GLI is on stock tires the tune will just make it spin more

@@BrownSofaGamer Honestly I would be surprised if the Tuned GLI wins. because he mentioned it's a stage 1. Stage 1 puts you anywhere from 290-310 HP. But the N already has 280WHP and has michiael sticky tires. So the question becomes can the GLI put the power down and keep up?. The N is trapping 107 stock. The GLI traps anywhere from 103-101 stock. I don't know if just a stage 1 will be enough. It also doesn't help that in Canda they only get the heaviest version of the GLI.
@@martintintin7729 I think NGS mode will play a big role in it too, not so much for the power boost, but because it significantly sharpens up the shifts in the Hyundai, which could give it the edge it needs over the VW.

Sam, you should pit the veloster n dct up against the elantra n dct and do several runs. I haven't seen anyone put them against each other other than auto cross which the veloster is actually quicker in autocross.
@@DriverJ-N yeah probably, it just seams to be a more nimble car. I'm sure the elantra n will be a 1/10th or so quicker in drags. All I've seen is autocross comparisons and the veloster n comes out on top from same driver in both cars.
When can we see the 2.0T Jeep Cherokee 4x4, and the Ford Bronco Sport do battle? Also I think both the Kia Telluride and a RWD Grand Cherokee L would be a good match up. Base trim vs base trim.
If the GLI had a real tune on it and not the OTS trash that was on it it would have beaten that N because it can beat a civic type R pretty easily and the civic type R beat that N pretty easily in your last video. no cap, just facts, plenty video's out to prove it

I am so glad you keep featuring the GLI on your channel. It's such a fun little car for it's price. The N is of course the KING if performance as far as these type of cars go. Seeing this makes me thing the tuned race might be neck and neck!

While I am far from a VW fanboy, the N is pretty similar in price to a GLI. The base Elantra can get a lot cheaper but the N is close enough to not make a big difference in price to a GLI
@@ClubZlut When comparably equiped with adaptive dampers, as the Autobahn edition is, EN is $5-8k cheaper and still beats any GTI/GLI in every performance metric, something that makes VW fanboys loose their shit when confronted with objective reality

@@OlJackBurton When u equip a GTI with adaptive dampers as the N has, it still can't perform at the same level and will cost $5-8k more. Build one online and you'll see. The Autobahn is nearly $9k more than the N and still can't keep up with the N in acceleration nor handling. Just the facts
@@Sie84yv Oh, there's no argument from me that the N is a far superior performer than the GTI at $5-8k less. But the GTI is a hatch and the N is a sedan. I don't know why the GLI is so much cheaper than the GTI, but i don't think the GLI can even be equipped past $35k...

I was never expecting the GLI to walk away victorious, but I still think it did good despite its power deficit. Once that Elantra N hits in stride though there’s no much for the money that’s gonna catch it, but I think getting a Mk8 GTI out here with its newer powertrain would be interesting. C&D has the acceleration numbers for the Mk8 at closer to the Elantra N than the GLI.
This is exactly my thoughts. The GLI honestly did much better than expected. They have a stage 1 GLI vs a stock N coming up next. Should be very interesting, but if the GLI is on stock tires the tune will just make it spin more
@@martintintin7729 Yeah, I think the tuned GLI video is definitely gonna come down to if the GLI can get its power to the ground or not. The Elantra is seriously quick though, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it keep up with a tuned GLI.
@@BrownSofaGamer Honestly I would be surprised if the Tuned GLI wins. because he mentioned it's a stage 1. Stage 1 puts you anywhere from 290-310 HP. But the N already has 280WHP and has michiael sticky tires. So the question becomes can the GLI put the power down and keep up?. The N is trapping 107 stock. The GLI traps anywhere from 103-101 stock. I don't know if just a stage 1 will be enough. It also doesn't help that in Canda they only get the heaviest version of the GLI.
@@martintintin7729 I think NGS mode will play a big role in it too, not so much for the power boost, but because it significantly sharpens up the shifts in the Hyundai, which could give it the edge it needs over the VW.

Is not a direct competitor. Elantra n line would be the GLI competitor. Still, throw stage 2 on that GLI and the problem is solved. I know you don’t compare stock to tuned but honestly, even stock I’d get the GLI any day.

Sam, you should pit the veloster n dct up against the elantra n dct and do several runs. I haven't seen anyone put them against each other other than auto cross which the veloster is actually quicker in autocross.
Because shorter wheelbase? Maybe?
@@DriverJ-N yeah probably, it just seams to be a more nimble car. I'm sure the elantra n will be a 1/10th or so quicker in drags. All I've seen is autocross comparisons and the veloster n comes out on top from same driver in both cars.

The Elantra N is an instant recall hit
Considering the GLI’s mission, it faired well. What it lacks in outright acceleration against the N, it makes up for it in aftermarket.
To activate Launch control on a N Hyundai you can't apply the throttle gradually it needs to be done fast to activate.
They need to turn off the traction control completely, then the N will do what it was made to do; wipe the floor with any other compact sedan

If the GLI had a real tune on it and not the OTS trash that was on it it would have beaten that N because it can beat a civic type R pretty easily and the civic type R beat that N pretty easily in your last video. no cap, just facts, plenty video's out to prove it
