A great car. I would definitely buy this over the upcoming Civic Type R simply because the price difference will be nearly $10k. I don't care for the Elantra N's front clip styling, but everything else seems great. Sounds fantastic as well.

@@luislinares690 it helps when your car is designed by the former lead engineer of the BMW M division. Nobody doubts the Type R, but for 10k extra in my pocket (ignoring markup), the N is pretty awesome
depending on the person the price difference is having the stock rims for snow in those regions, a track rim/tire setup. Or in the west having an eco/daily tire with the stock rims and a track rim/tire setup for the weekend. For those individuals the N is pretty viable out of the gate with those concepts as priorities. Or a chip tune+side rims/tires. Thats what i see same with a gr86 vs a 40 thousand dollar FI option.
I've had one in the 6MT for about a month now and I love it. I was heavily debating on if I should have waited for the new Type R or not but now I don't regret it at all. I want this car but the front axle seems like a deal breaker. If what TH says is true. Then buying these used would be a nightmare. May go for the N line.
@Ed Findlay so what happens after 10yrs? Or when Hyundai stops making the part. Sometimes warranties do not carry over if buying used. Or gets reduced drastically to like 1yr or so.
I got a black DCT EN and I’ve got no regrets. With dealer markups on all cars the type R would’ve been a bit over my budget. Also the exhaust note is just miles ahead of the civic.

Its thanks to guys like Throttle House that help me develop the language for what I want of an sports car ahead of the experience. The way Thomas described the steering, weight transfer, chasis dynamics, thats what I like! Or at least excites my curiosity. The Elantra N could have the 1.6 T and still be a buy for me if it keeps all those handling elements
The CN7 chassis feels fantastic, the rear's absolutely planted compared to my Veloster, turn in's good. I do wish the N-Line's got a hair more love when it comes to suspension and brakes though
"The way Thomas described the steering, weight transfer, chasis dynamics, thats what I like!" Sadly this has become less and less important on modern cars, even performance or drivers cars. Luckilythere still are manufacturers that care about it as much as enthusiasts and not the biggest numbers like many others.
Great video! Love my EN so far. I have to admit, being 35 years old, they hit the nail on the head of the “feeling of youthfulness”. This vehicle is capable of being a fast and fun daily driver, while also being able to be the reliable family sedan.
I'm 35 and thinking of getting one as well. Depends on what the new Civic Type R is like and what the used car market is like in a year. I need a fun DD. My current Elantra GT is long in tooth (02) and my Porsche TT doesn't need to be driven everywhere. I personally have a sweet spot for fun economy cars, more so than other cars, I think because for a looooooong time they were all I could afford. BTW the Elantra N looks amazing in red!!
Difference is, the Acura will still be running like a fine-tuned watch in 10 years and will retain a much greater proportion of its original selling price. Reputation takes a long time to earn.
@@lancemannion4113 this isn’t the 1980s. Both Hyundai and Kia are well respected manufacturers now. You also can’t beat their warranty if you are so concerned about reliability. The new Integra is a complete joke.
@@brucesuitt993 nobody said they weren't respected. And I'm not sure how you can say the new Acura is junk? Style is obviously very subjective but the reviews for it are solid, and Acura has a pretty consistent reputation for being an excellent driver's car - a few atrocities in styling, aside. But Honda/Acura didn't get to where they are by fluke. Hate them all you want but it'll be a while before the Koreans can truly compete in both value short-term satisfaction and long-term reliability.
@@lancemannion4113 I think the Koreans are already proving their reliability now. My issue with the Integra is they are charging most likely mid-30s for a 200hp tarted up civic SI. From a performance standpoint that is junk when you compare it to what Hyundai is offering in the same price range. As far as reliability, I had a 2020 RDX and that thing was plagued with infotainment issues. When it would go on the fritz I couldn't change my drive mode, use the radio or anything. The AD couldn't figure it out, so I ended up selling it.
@@brucesuitt993 Well given the situation of your SUV, there are exceptions to every rule. Nobody bats 1000, but if you look at the history of Toyota and Honda products, even with the misses - which are rare - they still are the standard that everybody has to measure up to whether we like to believe it or not (and I'm a hardcore Ford guy!) I've had just over 80 cars in my life including a Kia Koup daily that had an absolutely horrible clutch that could never be fixed properly (once warm it would be brutal trying to shift gears) - and I basically had to dump it as the resale on these is horrible. And I even had a stock Hyundai Tiburon Genesis Coupe V6 that was only about 3 years old. And the thing squeaked and rattled to no end. I sold it with less than 100,000 km and the car felt looser than a 2002 Celica GTS I had in 2018 that had 425,000 km on it!! The Koreans build cars that give you great value for your money initially. That's their selling point. But they haven't proven themselves long-term, especially when it comes to resale. And this is where the Japanese won't lose their grip. Competition will only make them better. And I don't think it's a horrible thing rebranding a car with the loyalty and following that the Civic has. Other than the Toyota Corolla, I don't think you'll find a better small car with a better track record! Also I should mention that Hyundai and Kia had the huge engine fire issue since 2018 that affected half a million cars. They tried to bury it. But there was a W5 program up here in Canada a couple of years ago that actually talked to the people that had cars that essentially spontaneously ignited, and they had to finally fess up.... I think? But this will take a long time (for those that actually do their research) to make ground up on. Issuing recalls is one thing, but avoiding and dismissing things as serious as this can't be overlooked. On a side note, my daily driver is a 2015 Fiesta ST. And even at 7 years old this thing has been absolutely bulletproof reliable and easily one of the most enjoyable cars I've ever owned. I think people write off domestics because of their horrible track record from the 70s and '80s....they shouldn't.
Ive had my elantra N for about 600 miles now. The car is everything I could of asked for. Drives like a beast, the interior tech is crazy... Lane keep assist is very strong. My only complaint is its not great in the snow but I havent gotten snow tires yet. Also, you can buy pass that funky front design by getting the black color. Not even noticeable

I literary saw this car today for the first time in my home country Nigeria, now am watching the review on your chanel. quite a cool feeling or a coincidence I should say.
Just some cool info for the N badging. The all powerful Albert Biermann, VP of engineering for BMW M in the 80's until recent when he joined Hyundai and banged life into the N models. Hyundai says "N" is for Namyang, where the product and development of the vehicle took place, and Nurburgring where the road and handling took place. Albert Biermann may have retired but you can definitely feel his seeds spread all over these cars and I can't wait to take delivery of mine and take it in the face.
I know you guys have tracked the veloster n, but are there any plans on putting this on the track at some point to see how well Hyundai has done and how well it competes with its 4-door competition from Honda?
it's pretty fast, on a smaller and slower track of, it's as fast as a M2 Coupe and .5 slower than the A45S. mind that it was a small and slow track of, where HP is less relevant and the lsd and chassis one Elantra is extremely important
It's not "Die" at the end. Vice President of Hyundai confirmed on the Rachel Ray show (in America) years ago that the company brand name is pronounced "Hun-day." Which makes sense because no automaker wants to be associated with the word "Die" anywhere in its brand name. However, thumbs-up for letting us know that you need to keep the revs up to get real fun out of this car, in terms of performance. Not what I'm looking for in my soon-to-be next car. I need the performance to kick in down low.
The Hyundai dealer at the auto group I work for got one. Got to hear that exhaust first-hand and let me tell you, there's never been a better sounding turbo-4. AND it has a manual, as it should.
James is actually pronouncing it correct. I worked at a Hyundai dealership about 10 years ago and the dealership's Korean overlords told them it was pronounced "Hyundai like Sunday".
I love my Veloster N DCT. I have an intake, tune and bigger turbo and axle back. It is Amazing and extremely loud and fun. Couldn’t have bought a better car
I'm just appreciating the fact that they're making these N cars (many of them!) while every other manufacturers are heavily concentrating on EV production.
Have you heard of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and KIA EV6? They’re new EVs and are doing great in terms of sales. Hyundai seems to be doing both, performance ICE and excellent EVs.
Every 4 lb you remove from the rotating assembly, brakes, tires and wheels etc, is the same as removing 200 lb from the vehicle. Pretty smart place to lose the weight, actually. Mind you Hyundai is pretty smart
I used to hate on Hyundai because I thought they literally copy bits and pieces from every other car maker to jumble their cars together…I must say I’m impressed now.
Omg, I’ve been waiting so much for this one. I love you guys and your reviews, as well as your production quality. It also sounds great, but I will admit that the pops and bangs are definitely overdone, as that kind of thing doesn’t really add too much to a vehicle in my opinion.

@@iluvcakes19 It'll definitely be riddled with the markups!! i doubt it will remain affordable than the elantra!
I just turned 35 and thinking of “downgrading” from a Lexus IS 350 to this. However, I don’t think I’d be really downgrading at all.
The Elantra N and Veloster N possess the magic that Acura was trying to capture with the reimagined Integra.
Nobody bats 1000, but if you look at the history of Toyota and Honda products, even with the misses - which are rare - they still are the standard that everybody has to measure up to whether we like to believe it or not (and I'm a hardcore Ford guy!)
I've had just over 80 cars in my life including a Kia Koup daily that had an absolutely horrible clutch that could never be fixed properly (once warm it would be brutal trying to shift gears) - and I basically had to dump it as the resale on these is horrible.

It's not "Die" at the end.
Vice President of Hyundai confirmed on the Rachel Ray show (in America) years ago that the company brand name is pronounced "Hun-day." Which makes sense because no automaker wants to be associated with the word "Die" anywhere in its brand name.
