DCT wouldn’t even be fair. There are other videos on it already and the EN with DCT beats the Type R in a drag not roll by Samlegions video. The NGS boosts and quick shifts make a huge difference. A guy made a video in the Veloster N DCT beating a GR Corolla in a roll race so theres that too. The GRs AWD will win a drag hands down all the time tho. Anyway EN is an underrated beast with DCT. In manual…. At least its more fun i guess.

Yes it gets 500 once you open up the engine and forge every piece of it . Because it already was tuned up to 500hp and didn’t hold up much before it poped parts of its valves 😂 its a three pot what more can you expect from a 3 piston car 300hp if crazy for 3 cylinder toyota is clever they know it was not good to put the supra 4 cylinder turbo in to the corolla gr because it would destroy the supra sales thats the engine it needed to be a true competitor to the hot hatch world .

@@pinkipipe The GRC numbers are not favorable against the outgoing Type R, so certainly less favorable still against the incoming one. It'd be shocking if the Morizo edition does a better lap time. Not impossible, but on equal conditions and driver it would be unlikely from what we know.

I shopped all three of these cars (fl5). The EN was the only one without $10k mark-up. No regrets, especially since it's the only one that can do a 20 minute track session without issue.
*It honestly isn't punching above it's weight. It's just that everyone sees Hyundai as inferior. They made this car to literally compete in this segment, so it's not really a surprise it can hang with the Golf R, Type R, and GR Corolla.*
I drove the new Elantra N on a track last week. It was such an amazing car to drive! My previously RWD-only wishlist now has a FWD nearly at the top :) I can’t wait to try the GR Corolla!

The Elantra N is cheaper and the interior is much better looking and it's not a slouch. If you want an automatic fun car to drive with some pep. Go for the Elantra N.
Elantra N reminds me of a Megane RS in desirability aspect, when it comes to the European market. It's not that desirable, not that well known, but it destroys the competition (talking about the Megane mostly) when it comes to the overall driveability, car feel, track use (Golf R, Audi S3, Golf GTI Clubsport etc) Hyundai might not be yet on this level, we need to see more tests of course, but they're on the right track in my opinion, you get the point hopefully.
desirability changes very very fast. Demand on these new hyundais are insane. this all changed with Ionic 5, EV6, g70, gv70, veloster N, telluride/palisade, and now elantra N. Don't forget N Vision 74 which is the hottest concept in a decade. Young people really don't know how bad Hyundais were. They are now looking this brand as a shiny new hot brand people can't stop talking about. i'm in my mid 40s and i grew up in an era where you wouldn't want to be caught dead in hyundai/kias. i was civic/integra boy ricer at heart. now i want this N so bad. if you asked me if i would ever desire a korean car just 5-6 years ago then i would laugh at you and call you names. again, we are in a different era. everything is changing so fast. it's kinda scary if you ask me.
@@porfiriato84 the gr86/Brz are also made for the track yet their brakes will fade in the hands of a novice. Furthermore, the CTR is also made for the track dude yet it has cooling issues. From what I’ve seen, those N cars don’t even have cooling issues. Solid track cars from the factory.

next month is 2 years of ownership for me. Best car I've ever owned. bought mine new and have put 28k on it. Dont a lot of work on it too. It just slices through everything you put at it. its a grocery weapon, track weapon, back road weapon, highway weapon and I fan fit a 65" TV box in it.
The new type R is the same old type R. They have the same engine (a little more power), gearbox, chassis, suspension, and tires. It just looks different inside and out. I'm guessing it will be top but not much better.
@@greymark420 i have those tires on my 8th gen. You get a whopping 9 more hp, from the exact same engine and the gearbox is actually the same gearbox, the same chassis, but believe what you want. Its the same car.
Very interesting. I'm glad they pointed out the difference a good tire can make relative to lap times. The DCT version of the Elantra N would have tied or edged out the Type R in the dig race, and possibly beaten the Corolla in the roll race as they are faster than the manual....however, I'm happy they were consistent with all manual transmissions for this comparison. This. ^ Dyno has shown the dct Elantra N puts more power down stock to stock with the manual. Hyundai gave it a little bit more to account for the losses.
Yep tires are super important but in this case they both had really good tires at least. I kinda wish they'd test cars with the same or as close as possible tires to equalize that difference since most people aren't going to have stock tires on the cars for the life of the vehicle anyway.

Toyota had nowhere to start since they haven't made a car in thar class in a decade. The z4 was modified and the b58 was ~secretly~ modified by toyota by the next few revision.
And you would still be slower than a basic bolt-on Type R that makes 450hp without much effort or one like mine that makes 620hp with a baby drop in turbo upgrade Hyundais get wrecked lol

I recently purchased an Elantra N, very happy with it. At least in my province: Type R 53K, Corolla 55K, Elantra N 40K. I'm happy with it's performance at that price. The Civic Si manual is 37K here, with a much worse warranty if you're worried about such things.
I got a GR 86 10th Anniversary Edition which there is only limited amount made along with the top trim and a built in cat back exhaust, all out the door for 34K MSRP. The manual version too. They’re out there man. Be patient.
These 3 guys (yes, i count the silent third driver) are completely bringing back the content that we wanted to see. An everyday car that everyone can afford. Not just half million Lamborghini etc. I can't wait for the day for Amazon or someone to hire them and start making those 'Specials' world wide as Top Gear/The Grand Tour does. I recommended the Elantra to my stepson and he ordered one 6 speed manual, like step dad’s Camaro. As soon as he got it I threw some mods at it for him to walk the type R’s
I've had a 2018 Civic Hatch LX as my first car, I couldn't justify paying the insurance for a Type-R at the time, but the spirit of the type R is shared in the Fk7 platform in a way, I had that car for 4 years. I was number 4 in Ontario to acquire/purchase a GR Corolla, but after finding about the Elantra N back in June, I've feel in love. Waited 2.5 months and picked up my Elantra N DCT. It's an absolute machine to drive, especially with the DCT being a excellent transmission for daily driving and tracking driving a like.
@@tahditon9408 Y'all the ones on crack 🤣, the Elantra Manual is only a split second slower than the last one and they were able to improve the GOLF R's time by a whole second in their FL5 comparison. The DCT would be neck to neck with the FL5 without a doubt.
Elantra N any day all day, all the time is what I’m buying. I’m sorry but hear me out. 0:49 Look at the price difference, by the time I put 5 more grand into this Elantra N with a lap3 flash and tune and change the tires and add a few bolt ons. And switch to ethanol. This care will be an AMG killer. That type R won’t stand a fucking chance. Nor will that Corolla. The interior is miles high better than both the Honda and Toyota. The practicality is insane. With a few mods/ and an ECU flash and tune. The Elantra N will be at 370++ HP and 0-60 in 3.6-3.8 seconds. This car has no business being compared to cars that are 7-10 G’s more expensive than it. Put just under 5 G’s of mods to this car and see who’s left in the pure exhaust bliss that this Elantra N comes with stock.
I thought I would regret getting the Elantra N when I bought it a month ago. Was cross shopping a GR86, but couldn't find one that wasn't marked up. Has to be the best bang for your buck on the market. MSRP plus motor mounts its a blast, eliminates a ton of wheel hop.
My coworker just bought a new Elantra N and its pretty sick, it makes plenty of noise to turn heads and looks nice too. Personally ill stick with my charger, but i think you get a great value for your money with the Elantra N!

When I was shopping for a N I couldn’t find a dealer that didn’t want a 5k mark up. Ended up with a 22 GLI for 1k under msrp. Not as fast but much better interior and still a lot of fun.
It amazes me how type r is only slightly faster than the Elantra and it’s so much more expensive. And not as much dealer markups and warranty is better. Hyundai really stepped up their game.
It's sad cuz the 2021 type r has the coolest exterior of any car imo. I really don't like the interior though, doesn't even have heated seats for the crazy price and only red as a choice. It got me into cars but I'm gonna end up getting an Elantra, it's better in a lot of ways and is way cheaper. Even comes with a sunroof!
@@ekgcanadianenthusiast9961 no. this is completly false. the turbo has been redesigned along with a different exhaust routing and an improved air intake. The power figures are higher across the board, not just in NA. NA still gets a performance deficit compared to the EDM and JDM.

The most impressive thing about the Elantra is not that it had a better lap time than the corolla or that it came close on the roll. Whats amazing is that it costs $14000 less than the corolla. Also, Ive seen them in person and I think it looks great.
Funny thing is the Elantra oil temp was at 89 car needs be at 160 before it makes power it’s much slower I have same car. It’s night day difference when car hits 160 oil temp
Thank you guys for the consistent and quality content. The type r is cool, but the new one looks so much better. The GR Corolla is inherently cool because its getting 300hp from a 3cyl engine. For the price comparison the Elantra N is in a different stratosphere. It has better lap times, respectable drag/roll race results, it is a first gen variant, has top tier tires, is the best sounding 4cyl ever potentially, and the dual clutch is noticeably quicker...oh and the Elantra N comes fully loaded. I am excited to purchase one for its performance and I am a former charger 392 owner!
While the Elantra N is in its first generation the 2.0 4 banger Turbo started with the Veloster N. They've fine tuned it so you can certainly say that it will hold up for certain.

type-r was expensive for me with all the markups, thats where I found and bought the N. i love that car. it is th best combo I was looking for. I like civic but definitely cant afford the mark ups!
I picked up a 22 Veloster N 2 weeks ago. Had to drive 700 miles to test drive and purchase. SO happy with how it performs already. I got really lucky. It's one of the last ever models made in the US. Had 11k miles on it. Manual. I cannot believe how the stock exhaust sounds... I already got a res delete and I will NOT do anything else. It's perfect as is. I'm utterly shocked at the value for performance.

I don't get the point why the GR impressed you in the drag race. After all it's the second more powerful - only 6hp down - of the three. On top of that it's the only one that has 4WD. I'm actually surprised that it didn't win by more than that. However, it was obvious that the GR would win the drag race. Otherwise Toyota would have done a pretty poor job.
@@sesvid the GR corolla still has a smaller displacement engine 400cc less and 1 less cylinder also less torque so in the drag and roll race it is impressive for what it is and what it did against the other two it's quite good enough only hp doesn't matter when you have a smaller engine against the competition people who don't like it say things like what your saying the car is impressive and with aftermarket tuning it's only a matter of time it's going to show it's potential just like the Gr Yaris
Love everything about it. The looks, the engine, the power, the drivetrain. Literally the only thing I don't like is the price, but even that is justified considering the tech and the attention to detail the GR Corolla has. All these cars are great and are no-brainers for enthusiasts, even though I'd always go for Honda.

People care about straight line speed. Because that is what most people do with their cars daily. Very few buy them to only run on the circuit

Elantra doesn't have AWD, so in winter is worse + it didn't beat the corolla because it has the same lap time 🙂

@@t.k.morris I got the manual. My first one and I’m so stoked about it. When I’m at my place in Va I drive like a total hooligan.. it’s all windy country roads out here. I usually am around 31 mpg still. But when I’m in Florida it’s not as great with constant stoplights and traffic

The Elantra N is cheaper and the interior is much better looking and it's not a slouch. If you want an automatic fun car to drive with some pep. Go for the Elantra N.

Elantra N reminds me of a Megane RS in desirability aspect, when it comes to the European market. It's not that desirable, not that well known, but it destroys the competition (talking about the Megane mostly) when it comes to the overall driveability, car feel, track use (Golf R, Audi S3, Golf GTI Clubsport etc) Hyundai might not be yet on this level, we need to see more tests of course, but they're on the right track in my opinion, you get the point hopefully.
Megane RS and Megane 16V are still cool tho.

desirability changes very very fast. Demand on these new hyundais are insane. this all changed with Ionic 5, EV6, g70, gv70, veloster N, telluride/palisade, and now elantra N. Don't forget N Vision 74 which is the hottest concept in a decade.
Young people really don't know how bad Hyundais were. They are now looking this brand as a shiny new hot brand people can't stop talking about.
i'm in my mid 40s and i grew up in an era where you wouldn't want to be caught dead in hyundai/kias. i was civic/integra boy ricer at heart. now i want this N so bad. if you asked me if i would ever desire a korean car just 5-6 years ago then i would laugh at you and call you names.
again, we are in a different era. everything is changing so fast. it's kinda scary if you ask me.
The Elantra N is ready for the track too, no brake fade or overheating right out of the box. Its truly great.

@@porfiriato84 the gr86/Brz are also made for the track yet their brakes will fade in the hands of a novice. Furthermore, the CTR is also made for the track dude yet it has cooling issues. From what I’ve seen, those N cars don’t even have cooling issues. Solid track cars from the factory.

Gonna have to see how the GR falls off with heat. At press event it felt sluggish as day went on under extended usage.

next month is 2 years of ownership for me. Best car I've ever owned. bought mine new and have put 28k on it. Dont a lot of work on it too. It just slices through everything you put at it. its a grocery weapon, track weapon, back road weapon, highway weapon and I fan fit a 65" TV box in it.

The new type R is the same old type R. They have the same engine (a little more power), gearbox, chassis, suspension, and tires. It just looks different inside and out. I'm guessing it will be top but not much better.

Very interesting. I'm glad they pointed out the difference a good tire can make relative to lap times. The DCT version of the Elantra N would have tied or edged out the Type R in the dig race, and possibly beaten the Corolla in the roll race as they are faster than the manual....however, I'm happy they were consistent with all manual transmissions for this comparison. This. ^ Dyno has shown the dct Elantra N puts more power down stock to stock with the manual. Hyundai gave it a little bit more to account for the losses.

Yep tires are super important but in this case they both had really good tires at least. I kinda wish they'd test cars with the same or as close as possible tires to equalize that difference since most people aren't going to have stock tires on the cars for the life of the vehicle anyway.

Toyota had nowhere to start since they haven't made a car in thar class in a decade. The z4 was modified and the b58 was ~secretly~ modified by toyota by the next few revision.

The difference is, in 3 years the CTR and CGR will both be worth more than you paid, and the Elantra will be ready to be traded in.
And you would still be slower than a basic bolt-on Type R that makes 450hp without much effort or one like mine that makes 620hp with a baby drop in turbo upgrade

I recently purchased an Elantra N, very happy with it. At least in my province: Type R 53K, Corolla 55K, Elantra N 40K. I'm happy with it's performance at that price. The Civic Si manual is 37K here, with a much worse warranty if you're worried about such things.

The Elantra N is near the top of my list, along with a new GR86. The problem is that in the U.S they're listing at 40+. At msrp I'd buy one tomorrow.
Shop around. I got my manual 2023 gr86 at 33k
if you want a rubbish dealership experience and an extra fine print warranty that suddenly vanishes; get the hyundai.
I got a GR 86 10th Anniversary Edition which there is only limited amount made along with the top trim and a built in cat back exhaust, all out the door for 34K MSRP. The manual version too.
They’re out there man. Be patient.

I've had a 2018 Civic Hatch LX as my first car, I couldn't justify paying the insurance for a Type-R at the time, but the spirit of the type R is shared in the Fk7 platform in a way, I had that car for 4 years. I was number 4 in Ontario to acquire/purchase a GR Corolla, but after finding about the Elantra N back in June, I've feel in love. Waited 2.5 months and picked up my Elantra N DCT. It's an absolute machine to drive, especially with the DCT being a excellent transmission for daily driving and tracking driving a like.
I'm really curious if you guys could put track time comparison on Elantra N manual vs DCT vs new Type R around the track.

Look at the price difference, by the time I put 5 more grand into this Elantra N with a lap3 flash and tune and change the tires and add a few bolt ons. And switch to ethanol. This care will be an AMG killer. That type R won’t stand a fucking chance. Nor will that Corolla. The interior is miles high better than both the Honda and Toyota. The practicality is insane. With a few mods/ and an ECU flash and tune. The Elantra N will be at 370++ HP and 0-60 in 3.6-3.8 seconds. This car has no business being compared to cars that are 7-10 G’s more expensive than it. Put just under 5 G’s of mods to this car and see who’s left in the pure exhaust bliss that this Elantra N comes with stock.
DCT Hyundai would have been the fastest version.
I thought I would regret getting the Elantra N when I bought it a month ago. Was cross shopping a GR86, but couldn't find one that wasn't marked up. Has to be the best bang for your buck on the market. MSRP plus motor mounts its a blast, eliminates a ton of wheel hop.

When I was shopping for a N I couldn’t find a dealer that didn’t want a 5k mark up. Ended up with a 22 GLI for 1k under msrp. Not as fast but much better interior and still a lot of fun.

It amazes me how type r is only slightly faster than the Elantra and it’s so much more expensive. And not as much dealer markups and warranty is better. Hyundai really stepped up their game.
It's sad cuz the 2021 type r has the coolest exterior of any car imo. I really don't like the interior though, doesn't even have heated seats for the crazy price and only red as a choice. It got me into cars but I'm gonna end up getting an Elantra, it's better in a lot of ways and is way cheaper. Even comes with a sunroof!

@@ekgcanadianenthusiast9961 no. this is completly false. the turbo has been redesigned along with a different exhaust routing and an improved air intake. The power figures are higher across the board, not just in NA. NA still gets a performance deficit compared to the EDM and JDM.

The most impressive thing about the Elantra is not that it had a better lap time than the corolla or that it came close on the roll. Whats amazing is that it costs $14000 less than the corolla. Also, Ive seen them in person and I think it looks great.
14k less than the circuit edition. You can get the core model for 36k with the limited slip which gives the same performance.

Thank you guys for the consistent and quality content. The type r is cool, but the new one looks so much better. The GR Corolla is inherently cool because its getting 300hp from a 3cyl engine. For the price comparison the Elantra N is in a different stratosphere. It has better lap times, respectable drag/roll race results, it is a first gen variant, has top tier tires, is the best sounding 4cyl ever potentially, and the dual clutch is noticeably quicker...oh and the Elantra N comes fully loaded. I am excited to purchase one for its performance and I am a former charger 392 owner!
While the Elantra N is in its first generation the 2.0 4 banger Turbo started with the Veloster N. They've fine tuned it so you can certainly say that it will hold up for certain.

I picked up a 22 Veloster N 2 weeks ago. Had to drive 700 miles to test drive and purchase. SO happy with how it performs already. I got really lucky. It's one of the last ever models made in the US. Had 11k miles on it. Manual. I cannot believe how the stock exhaust sounds... I already got a res delete and I will NOT do anything else. It's perfect as is. I'm utterly shocked at the value for performance.

I don't get the point why the GR impressed you in the drag race.
After all it's the second more powerful - only 6hp down - of the three.
On top of that it's the only one that has 4WD.
I'm actually surprised that it didn't win by more than that.

Love everything about it. The looks, the engine, the power, the drivetrain. Literally the only thing I don't like is the price, but even that is justified considering the tech and the attention to detail the GR Corolla has.
All these cars are great and are no-brainers for enthusiasts, even though I'd always go for Honda.
