Diana thought she should be in the middle like the lead from The Andrew Sisters Sammy said hell no it is Flo in the middle or you all can go I see after seeing this that Tony was right again

      I know that Florence had to be fired. He couldn't tolerate that, but he didn't have to blackball her, either. If he couldn't help her, he didn't have to hurt her more than she was hurting herself.

      @ptrachev 11 лет назад +2

      True

    • @HamlettKenneth
      @HamlettKenneth 9 лет назад +2

      +antij1 Ms. Ballard signed a contract with another label after she left Motown, and she made recordings that are available on You Tube,, so she was hardly blackballed. In interviews after her dismissal, she acknowledged that she did not like all the work involved in building a successful recording career, and she especially disliked the time on the road away from home. She also acknowledged that she failed to show up for some performances, showed up drunk for others and purposely sabotaged the choreography to mess up Ms. Ross and Ms. Wilson. I do not believe Ms. Ballard was blackballed at all, but if others did not want to work with her, it did not have anything to do with Mr. Gordy. She built her own reputation, sadly. It always astonishes me when I read criticism of the members of the group who worked everyday to make them successful, in particular Ms. Ross, whose sound propelled them to international stardom, but no criticism of the member who did the opposite. I love all the Supremes, and do not understand why some insist on speculating about her having a career she did not want. I also do not understand how, after listening to her recordings as a single artist, an objective listener would believe that she had a voice that would have taken her to stardom. She has a nice voice, with occasional problems holding onto pitch, but it is not that different than many other singers -- inside and outside show business, Ms. Ballard does not need an invented career or overblown estimations of her talents. During the initial good years, she and Ms. Ross and Ms. Wilson took the Supremes to the top. They are a part of history and members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That would be more than enough for almost anyone on earth, so I do not understand those who feel that she somehow was denied stardom. She achieved stardom with the most successful female group in music history,

    Aaah. I wish I could find and download The Supremes singing "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen". They just...wow. I wish they woulda sung the whole thing. Actually I want to hear The Supremes do all of the Andrews Sisters' hits featured here.

      +Elizabeth Koehler Do you know why Elizabeth? Because for the first time their was 1 mic and it was in front of who it should of been in front of. The great Florence Ballard. Not Diane!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Robert you hit the hammer on the nail...there are a lot of fans of Diana who don't seem to realize that Florence was the real voice/anchorwoman/backbone in the Supremes and could have sang a lot of those songs that they gave to Diana...clearly for what Berry wanted Diana had it but every now and then when he wasn't looking Florence showed that potential that a real producer would only dream of because he made sure that she wasn't heard in her true form...Manhattan, Silent Night, Makes No Difference Now...if she was allowed because she was not to step in front of that mike it would have been Florence who would be looking at a solo career...and the other one too...two breakout stars not one...

    Six amazing voices. Patty conducts everything from the moment we see her. Notice how she changes position so the Supremes can see her conducting the final parts.

    Gee, those gals were sure surprised when Sammy sprung that on them. It's amazing. They suddenly knew the lyrics and harmonies, and the band just picked out the arrangements on the spot. Amazing.

    How I remember watching this very show, c. 1965. I was home from college for the week-end. I got on the phone and called my cousin in Memphis and asked, "Have you heard of a new group called "The Supremes"?? They're marvelous!

    The Andrews Sisters rocked this, despite them being way past their prime .... imagine if they had been as young as the Supremes here...as for the Supremes, loved them doing their own stuff.
