Patty was very expressive, I love it
The first, and best, girl group of all time.
@@jgrawn Boswell who?!
@@monicabella7894 the boswell sisters were an act of sister blues singers from the 30s. A lot of people like to say the andrews girls copied their act, in actuality they started as a mimic act, but quickly became a pioneer group of jump blues and completely became stars in their own right.
The first? Not really, the best? Maybe
"When we think we cant go on, we find we cant get enough" What a great line!
I love the Andrews Sisters.
Man alive, I hope people realize just how outstanding these ladies were! The band, the tune, lyrics, the dynamics, key & time changes. The Greatest Generation in SOOO many ways! I'd sure love to be that anklet on Patty's left ankle!!
I love love the blonde middle sister Patty she had a great personality and very physical so much fun and energy with expressions and humor like Martha Raye and Nancy Walker.
Allegedly, she was a horrible person.
@Agustin Rossetti I don't know why she was a horrible person. LaVerne and Maxene has spoken about it in interviews.
@@Tumbledweeb I had only ever heard that the sisters were upset that Patty decided to go solo without telling them.
Patty the shouter, the belter. She made it with her tone so her sisters could sing at full volume in harmony....Genius. Crowd-pleasing vocal projection technique
It a shame they ended up not speaking for years. But did speak before Laverne passed in 67. Best girl group ever!!!!
Wow! The effort that must have gone into such a production! Great camera angles, sound is clear, and all the sisters look great in the movie.
Kicking back at my grandparents house changing the channel around and found this on TV told my grandmother Good times my Grandfather remembers he served in WW2 in the Pacific he still a Marine
Laverne was around 33 here - Patti around 26 - and Maxine was around 28. 😊
There is something very special about Laverne.
It just amazes me how tight the vocals were. And what I find funny is that when they start walking toward the stage, they never look at each other but are in time and step. Also they dip their heads the same way and time on certain words. I betting none of that was choreographed, but just from being together so long.
Siblings know each other. My two younger brothers and I are more or less the same way.
It's a *movie*. Of course it was choreographed.
Before this, when the Andrews Sisters were put in one Universal Studios B-movie after another, they pleaded to be assisted by a choreographer for their musical numbers, but were refused, to save money. So they HAD to come up with their own routines. Of course, they had been performing on stage for years by then, so they also were very experienced in doing shows to please live audiences.
I agree, in the early era of Rock you had the Everly Brothers that had that”sing together all our lives”harmony.
They are amazing, they way they sing and dance.. Patty is lovely and so expressive. That's what I call having a real talent
Remenber Folks. This Song is 80 Years old!
I'm gettin' corns for my country
At the Hollywood Canteen
The hardest workin' junior hostess
You've ever seen
I'm doin' my bit down here for Uncle Sam
I'm a patriotic jitterbug
Yeah, yeah, that's what I am
I'm gettin' corns for my country, you should see the pounds fly
I'm gettin' down the waistline and I don't even try
I don't need a Duberry or a Westmore course
'Cause my weight's been taken over by the Army Air Force
We're not petite as sweet Joan Leslie, but then we never mind
When those GI's knock the South, we're glad that we're the healthy kind
The way those cowboys from the prairie expect us to sashay
I think I'd rather two step with their horses any day
We're gettin' corns for our country though the goin' is tough
When we think we can't go on, we find we can't get enough
So if you hear of a soldier, sailor or marine
Tell him to look us up at the Hollywood Canteen
I used to be aesthetic, they say, oh yes I was, really I was
I served the drama, arts and the ballet
But the theatre guild came over and said, forget about Pavlova
Learn to cut a rug, so now we're jitterbugs
I'm gettin' corns for my country, so I'm really all in
In a week from now we'll be here with our usual vim
So if you hail from the Bronx, Des Moines or Aberdeen
Come down and ask for us at the Hollywood Canteen
I Love it.
Thanks. Always wondered what they were singing like Duberry & Westmore as well as vim. Ow I’m all squared away!
Patty
The Àndrews sisters are still cool today....
This is such a classic just timeless I hope the of kids today can understand what it was all about
I love the Andrew Sisters ..
Amazing quality!
The Andrew Sisters.......who can ever forget them? They performed a lot for a long time and never wore out! Great video showing their generous talent for the Hollywood Canteen bringing morale to the military men.
If the started out today, they, especially Patty, would still be loved today. They have talent, that transcends!!
They are still loved today! In fact, the younger generations love their music! I'm one of said generations. I was introduced to their music through a video game called "Fallout 4".
Gorgeous.
Maxene
They are very cool!
Patty, talented and beautiful ❤
More of this, please
Had the pleasure of chatting with Patti Andrews several times while she was having physical therapy to treat an ankle sprain...lovely ladylll
Они такие молодые 😫😭❤️
IF I COULD I WOULD PACK MY STUFF HOP IN A TIME MACHINE AND GO BACK TO THE 1940S AND NEVER COME BACK
xds9mm I'm right alone with you. These ladies knew things that today's have forgotten.
Prob'ly change your mind on that if you landed in Auschwitz, or Normandy Beach on D-Day, or... I could go on, but all that great song and dance and was a direct result of trying to deal with all the miserable shitstorm of of a decade...
@@tomsmith7742 what decade isnt a shit storm u have caronavirus starting 2020 out . Depression and ww2 was crazy time but u see how people banned together and got through it without bitching and complaining like we do today . Yeah war is hell but look at how strong minded that generation was they never gave up!
Said Europe never
Anytime but this political atmosphere. But only if the equality for women came with us !
Great era. Glad my Dad loved the Big Bands. I saw Tex Beneke and the Modernaires at Wolf Trap Va.
She was so wonderfully and all of them and they are loved by us all
Absolutely! And even more wonderful; Maxene was a lesbian. Love that people like me had representation way back then!
Damn was she actually? Or was it when she was older... so I wouldn't of even had a chance :( she's so pretty
Perfect...
COOL SONG💕🎬
I’m using this for a school project but I just love this so much 😭
*The Andrews Sisters* : contralto *LaVerne Sophia (July 6, 1911 - May 8, 1967 at 65 years old)* , soprano *Maxene Anglyn (January 3, 1916 - October 21, 1995 at 79 years old)* , mezzo-soprano *Patricia Marie "Patty" (February 16, 1918 - January 30, 2013 at 94 years old)*
Ah back during the time when Hollywood celebs actually loved their country. Would have l oved to see the Andrews Sisters sing with the Lennon Sisters in the 50''s. that would have been some epic harmonies.
When I think about the Andrews Sisters I think about my grandfather 👴 he loved these girls
The guy drinking milk is just like
"Oh well, guess I can't talk to her"
That's Sgt Nowland played by Dane Clark. A prolific actor who appeared in Action in the North Atlantic (1943) and as leading man in Never Trust a Gambler (1951). But never in better company than here. Love the Andrews...
And I am getting Corns for the Rain Dance down here in Texas!
Very hard work behind this.
Having a crush on some women from 80 years ago. Dgaf. These women are spicy and talented. What a time to be alive.
I heard there song Company B on Mommas Family episode.
Patty and Maxene are clearly sisters, they really do lookalike. Almost twins. LaVerne looks different.
The part I love best, that's always stuck in my head, is at 0:19
Eu sou do Brasil muito legal o vídeo
Muito bom.
The Andrews Sisters were Greek American
You can especially see it in the tall sister’s face.
Love them so much. So sad that Patty split and they never got along after that.
So wholesome.....do any such people hang around Hollywood these days?
They'd always get into horrible arguments and break up because Maxine was a lesbian and the other two couldn't accept it
The audio recordings I have heard from this are edited! (On second hearing, it's a different version)
Bom demais. maneco - Brasil.
Did you hear the song "Aurora" from them? This seems to be a rehash of a Brazilian carnival song
getting corns for my university :)
The sisters therefore sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
maybe i would have fallen inlove with her idk
The greek girls
My darling hubby rubs my corns after a long day in heels.
The little one was cute.
Haha they all are good looking but maxene (the shortest) is definitely the prettiest
This is worse sufferin' than the Dust Pneumonia Blues!
These sisters of Greek heritage, and you. can see that.
Omg 720p!
Can anyone explain to me what the meaning of "getting corns" is? //Confused foreigner
She's singing about getting corns on her feet. Basically blisters because she's walking all the time and on her feet all the time
@@johnbarquinero5354 Thanks! Great song
Nice legs, girls ...
Has a single RUclips comment ever made you want to off yourself? Thanks Michael!
Natalia B I beg your pardon ...⁉️
Laverne and Maxene were put into some odd costumes in this number.
I was a dancer. I trained myself not to get corns with heels.
who is the guy with the bottle and the straw at 1:28?
Dane Clark
@@caraqueno thanks! He looks like he could be John Garfield's brother
@@hipsterdoofus1026 Garfield and Clark worked together but were not close due to extreme political differences yet they were cast together because of their resemblance to each other.
@@caraqueno I never knew that thank you!
@@hipsterdoofus1026 You're welcome. Dane Clark went on to a long career on stage, film, and tv. He had a '70's renaissance of good, important character roles.
