Bless them, Mickey and Judy pretty much invented the idea of teenage romance in movies.
You talk about your High School Musicals or your 'Glee,' but none of that would have existed without these two.
In that case, Judy and Mickey have created monsters!
BadgerCheese94 Monsters? o_o

High school musical. God that movie sucked ass!
BadgerCheese94 I understand. It's alright. But I gotta admit, without Judy and Mickey, then high school musical, glee or other shows/movies like this wouldn't even exist in our century. But now, those things definitely hit the market. :p

Then we most go back and seperate the two to prevent the horrors of hearing Zac Efron singing and the subsequent squeal of 12 year old brats! Quick! To the Delorean! Great Scott!
They were magic together... obviously loved working together.
Yes they did!
mickey and judy..together again in heaven!
How do you know that they are in heaven? How do you know that heaven is real? Is hell real, too?
@@aviationking2987 let a person believe what they want
It is much easier liking them after their dead
Yep don't make me cry
This girl was truly amazing. She had just been taken out of The Barkleys of Broadway where to ill health but manager to rally herself to perform this number. She does amazing things with her hands and arms here and her vocal is great. You would never know she was so ill apart from the thin appearance. The greatest entertainer who ever lived.
R.I.P. Mickey Rooney...You and Judy together again in heaven !
Anyone who has ever performed knows just how much training and experience are needed to move as fluidly as Mickey and Judy do here, as well as to deliver Lorenz Hart's (very demanding) lyrics with such crisp articulation. It's like Fred Astaire's dances: executed with such grace and command that it all seems utterly effortless. GOD, what talent!
Absolutely. They make it look so easy….but far from it. Such talent
Judy was a class act. so talented and had a soul
Two of the greatest entertainers ever. They're together again for always. Rest In Peace Mickey Rooney.

Sad, the saying, “ what you don’t miss won’t hurt you”, because it’s true.
People who never saw Judy, Mickey et al can never know what fantastic entertainers they missed.
Two of the greatest entertainers that ever lived.
They don't make actors like them anymore, more's the pity.
Nope
Kerry, Isn’t that the truth!
How magical were these two!
I always had a crush on young Mickey Rooney. Lol.
I love how women wore their hair back then! I think Judy is so gorgeous
awww i agree!;) if i would of met a woman with a hair style like that i would take out with me!;) everywhere!;)
oohh as a matter of fact!;) i saw someone a woman !;) white woman. in facebook. red hair with tattos. very lovely looking.! she had that style hair like that. almost like that. with a cute smile she had!;)she was that 1940s style. she wair squirts. some other outfits. i think she was in her 30 s i think. but she had that style like judy!;) her hair. red headed woman!;)
@@tigermaximus8003 Judy Garland was born in 1922. This film was made in 1948 so she was somewhere between 25 and 26.
@@CharlieChilders-wm9gb thanks for the info...;)
So entertaining!! Judy and Mickey are so talented!!♥
their final movie together.
" The conversations with the flying plates. " Poetry.
Saw the film in 1947 in Leigh. The Navy took up a couple of rows. We sang numbers from it on the way back to base. What a great album from those two greats-Rodgers and Hart. Des
i wish they were alive again!!! best performers ever! so theatrical even if the song's so simple!
This beautiful and classic number is from the classic 1948 MGM movie is pure movie magic! I love it! It is perfect!
What a brilliant pair !
Outstanding Musical Number!
They sang this with the introduction, the way it should be sung! One of the greatest love songs ever written, it says it all.
One of Rodgers & Hart's greatest songs. When Lorenz Hart was on top form, he produced such terrific lyrics!
Judy Garland had so much class!
Epic talent, two incredible personalities!
Never again, and Only in America.
That ERA is long gone!
I grew up in that era and you are right, I miss it terribly and many times wish I could take a time machine back or like Scrooge look through a window and see as real again!
Pure Talent. RIP to both of them.
This was the second time Judy and that actor (I think Tom Drake) from the movie Meet Me in St.Louis worked together.
Rest in Peace Mickey....
The way they move and their unity, rhythm. Out of this world❣️
Rest in peace, Rooney
Loved Girl Crazy!!! Still loving them
Remembering Mickey and Judy. and everything they gave us!
Pure, innocence, strictly no nudity !
Anyone else excited about seeing Esther Smith and John Truit together again?
Maybe I missed something. John Truitt was played by Tom Drake.
Terry Grant the guy she talks to “the composer” was Tom Drake
MR.HOWARD, I'm totally aware, that Tom Drake played Richard Rogers. I just did get the John Truitt and Esther Smith together again. But, I guess that was suppose to be a cleaver remark, because Judy and Tom did Meet Me In St.Louis together. Tremendous Movie.
@@terrygrant3467 It was clever.
The GREATEST! Love the way she almost comes close to mimicking Martha Raye, and grins in a knowing way towards to the camera and audience towards the end ... wow!
Martha Raye?
@@susanb2015 not sure if that's a 'really?' or a 'who is martha raye' Martha was a comedienne. Very very funny, pulled a lot of faces - she appeared as a guest on Judy's show and was hilarious! Martha Raye was also Married to David Rose before he married Judy.
@@tashspeak3877 I never heard of her. I should look her up. My father might know who she is.
@@susanb2015 she's this lady: ruclips.net/video/aEvmV6smXNI/видео.html :)
@@tashspeak3877 to me she was the greatest comedian of all time. I love Carol Burnett and am a very big fan . I also love Lucille Ball. However, I wholeheartedly have always believed that Martha Raye was the greatest comedian of them all. Naturally the funniest of them all. She truly should have been a huge star but for some reason she was never appreciated and respected ( as she should have been.) A very good singer and sadly, she is almost forgotten. Check out her movies and watch her on the Judy Garland show.(she is so very outrageous!😱) Give yourself a wonderful treat. You will be so happy!🤗👍😇♥️
Judy was gifted talented and so funny ! Mickey was gifted talented and they were awesome great singers actress and actor and Thank you very very much for the awesome great video and song !
I catch so much feelings with films like these!! SOMEONE INVENT THE TIME MACHINE FASTER!
Ok at the beginning of the scene, you have Mickey and Judy, Judy and the boy next door, and the lady that gets stabbed in the shower in "Psycho!" lol.
I love Judy garland and Mickey Rooney there such legends .
One of their more charming duets.
These two were soulmates. Maybe not romantic ones, but they seemed to belong together in other ways
Pure Movie Magic !!
Judy and Mickey are my favourite forever s2
Judy and Mickey. Maravilhosos!!!
Judy & Mickey were so fabulous. Loved Judy for over 30 years. What a talent. Loved seeing “ Esther” back with her “John Truette” too!
THANKS! This is terrific!
+Roger Wilco Play it again and again and again.
How about downloading the whole movie?
These two... the best
RIP Rooney
RIP Judy, too.
Great song.... Well performed
so sad that she did not feel good about herself. did you read "get happy" her biography? she was despite her vices very big hearted who was HURT beyond measure
EXACTLY, SHE WAS REALLY HURT.
The people around her, used and abused her.
The people around her, used and abused her.
This so sad this Judy and Mickey last movie they been in a lot of movies Together god bless Judy and Mickey :)
I’ve been in love with Judy garland since I was in third grade and first saw the wizard of oz. have every one of her recordings.
lovely just so doggone lovely and beauuuuuuutiful too she's just loving to be a great big part of our lives I mean she just set a whole trend in entertaining now that's Judy more more mmmmmm moooooorrrrrrrreeee good kind sweetness of beauty and style and fashion and won the world over with lots and lots and lots of love stay gold in glory baby because we still love you peace everyone.
Crazy to think during the filming of this she was so sick:( she was such a trooper there will never be another like her
They make it look so easy.
You can tell that they loved performing together.
I think Judy Garland never looked so wonderful!
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! THE WAY THEY DO THIS #! 🙂! THEY PLAY OFF EACH OTHER SO WELL! 🤩
Fabulous! Thanks for posting! (this clip also features Janet Leigh as "Mrs. Richard Rodgers" near the beginning, and Mel Torme is conducting the band)
Merci beaucoup from Paris France 😂❤👍👍👍
what a treasure this is
I rode an elevator with Mickey Rooney once.
It was going up. I never thought about it’s direction till I did tonight. Good God what they put these two through.
Judy is absolutely incandescent here.
HOW ON EARTH WAS MICKEY ROONEY EVER A STAR,,,,,????!!!!! He telegraphs his lines 3 miles away.
These performers were in show business since they were small children. 20 years of training by this time. And it shows. We can see it today in people like Austin Butler who worked for Disney when he was a kid.
Judy was so beautiful and Micky was so handsome. They were perfect together.
they look so natural together
Man oh man, it doesn't get better than this. Pure talent. Great performers. OK, call my an old fogey but this is what is called "real talent". Not like today, where someone who can barely sidle up to a note wiggles her tush in a skimpy outfit and gets $100 million. The chemistry, the fluidity of movement, the sheer, shimmering glory of it all!
oh i might have a huge crush with the two of them
How fun was that!! They don't make 'em like this anymore boys and girls. I think the reviewers at the time called them "America's Sweethearts", and they certainly were. I know I've seen this film clip, but it's been at least ten years since last viewing it. Isn't it included in "That's Entertainment"? Anyway, love it, love it, love it!
Mickey Rooney Is Awesome
All the oldies ah I love them
So much elegance
We need more of this rather than all the violence that they film
They should do a movie about Mickey and Judy friendship 💜
Me too! She was great!
Judy and Mickey were the Tracey and Hepburn of Musical comedy.
A great great women ultimate singer of all time in America
Those two ❤️❤️
True Class !! x
WOW
Pure magic!
Beautiful Janet Leigh
I loved her!
Yes, it sounds as if Mickey Rooney sings "the double crossing of a pair of eels," but it's not what Larry Hart wrote and thus Rooney throws away one of the cleverest and sexiest puns of the ballad era. The line is "the double crossing of a pair of heels."
"one of the cleverest and sexiest puns of the ballad era." My thoughts exactly. I wonder if the "h" just got a little slurred, or if Mickey really sang it as "eels".
I love Rodgers and Hammerstein, but what a difference between the lyrics of Hammerstein and Hart. If this song weren't sung so cheerily, today's PC attitudes might take exception to a lyric that refers to the "blackened eye".
jim lowell What does something terrible like that have to do with PC? Give me a fucking break, you piece of dog shit.
great comment, thanks for the skinny on the lyric
Hey Ted. Well spotted- I noticed this too but wasn’t 100% certain. Here’s what I suspect might be happening- I think Mickey amended the lyric to make it easier to remember and deliver. Sometimes vocalists use memory techniques to remember lyrics better. In this case, eels follows the nautical theme of the verse. Did you notice he also gestures with his middle finger?
@@jimlowell5251 well as a survivor of domestic violence from my stepdad I can confirm that a blackened eye like I had plenty of times due to him punching me in the face is in no way "love." I think its a description of a person who is in an abusive relationship and has difficulty due to the "trauma bond" leaving the abusive relationship. It doesn't have to be the woman who is the victim. Men get abused too. So it's important that the person believing the deception they sing about here gets trauma counseling so they can escape the physically and mentally abusive relationship. I also felt like it could be sung by Ursula the Sea Witch prior to her becoming the Sea Witch and adopting her two pet eels who were always double crossing merfolk. This song describes how she turned into the evil witch she is at the beginning of the movie (she was in an abusive relationship with someone and then she turned evil). I used to call my mom Ursula the Sea Witch since she was violent to me and married a psycho stepdad who constantly tortured me and tried to murder me. At least I have finally escaped. May they both burn in Hell for eternity. Anyway its a helpful song for describing abusive relationships. :)
The Great Garland!
This made me sad!!!
❤❤❤❤❤
The Best Part of the Movie! When MGM execs previewed the film, they realized from the audience's reaction that 1 Song wasn't enough. MGM paid her 50K for this scene. MGM had to go back & set up the same scene & Paid Judy another 50K for "Johnny One Note" #. Judy was very thin here but in her next number, she put on a few lbs & looks & sounds great. Also Her dress is also different. In the late 40's Judy & Bette Davis were the only 2 female stars who could carry a film just on their Name alone.
'
So did Betty Grable and Betty Hutton for their respective studios.
50,000? The studio beconed because the film was a dud and they used her to save the film. I forget how many millions it made but they summoned and used her as they always did. She saved their film and should have been paid even more.
Omg!,I just went to your channel. You guys are AWESOME!!!you got a new fan right here! I used to sing at my old church and miss singing terribly, but I will go back to that.I subscribed. You guys are great!!
Shows what are witty and clever lyricist Lorenz Hart
was.
So often lyrics play second fiddle to the melody. In this piece the words are the most entertaining. The catchy tune doesn't annoy with repetition nor outshine the words, and it seems to be made up of 3 main notes. perfect support for the lyric.
Judy Garland and Janet Leigh together just light up the screen.
They're the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers of musicals! I'm also totally channeling Kurt and Rachel performing this number in Glee lmao!
These two Legends had the Best Chemistry in Hollywood's History. Judy made MGM well Over 50 Million during her 15 yrs there and 50 Million in those days was a huge sum. When those idiots at Metro fired her, they also cut their own throats because it started the downward spiral of MGM. They fired L.B. Mayer shortly after they canned Judy. MGM's musicals were never the same. Im glad in a way because after MGM Judy started her 2nd career which I call "the Concert years"
I believe they fired Judy after they fired Mayer. I wouldn't be surprised if Judy was responsible for Mayers firing. She supposedly threatened L.B. (who had been molesting her for years to STOP, DON'T YOU EVER TOUCH ME AGAIN. IF YOU WANT TO SHOW ME WHERE MY HEART IS *JUST POINT*. If you ever touch me again or if I hear about you touching anyone else, I'll, have a nice long talk with the boys in New York. He did, she did, they checked into it, AND THEY DID. BYE LOUIE. He was a molester, and I truly believe she got him.
The sleepless nights
The daily fights
The quick toboggan when you reach the heights
I miss the kisses and I miss the bites
I wish I were in love again
The broken dates
The endless waits
The lovely loving and the hateful hates
The conversations with the flying plates
I wish I were in love again
No more pain
No no more strain
Now I'm sane
But I'd rather be punch drunk
The flying fur of cat and cur
The fine mismatching of a him and her
I've learned my lesson but
I wish I were in love again
The furtive sigh
The blackened eye
The words I love you 'til the day I die
The self-deception that believes that lie
I wish I were in love again
When love congeals
It soon reveals
The faint aroma of performing seals
The double-crossing of a pair of heels
I wish I were in love again
No more care
No more despair
Now I'm all there
But I'd rather be punch drunk
Believe me sir, I much prefer
The classic battle of a him and her
I don't like quiet and I wish I were
In love again
In love again
You could tell she loved him boy did she love him
HI HELP DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT KEY THIS IS IN? I NEED IT FOR TOMORROW AAHHH HELP
Judy Garland was 4’11 so that guy is SOOOOO SHORT!
Is a picture the same as a movie?
rip-.j. g.
What film was this from? It's brilliant! Garland and Rooney were always amazing together
Words and Music
Cheers :)
Yes, I read both Get Happy and the other, Gerold Frank, biography.
Mr. Frank was a jerk. He butchered Judy in his first book. If I remember correctly, George Murphy wrote the forward for the book. Mr. Frank showed him a couple of the chapters, George liked what he read, and wrote the forward. Those chapters didn't exist, at least in the book. I Think it was George Murphy. maybe Robert Montgomery?
Janet Lee is in this ?
