Rooney has said in the years after Judy passed away that the love they have for each other is more than romance. It's that kind of love that transcends the usual lustful, sexual desire that's more akin to the bond you have for your own sister. Rooney himself is an only child and he saw Garland as the perfect soulmate of a sister to him. That's why their love isn't romantic; no, it's far deeper than that.
I love this clip. They are so comfortable together. Think how many times they performed together on stage and in the movies. The two best trained along with natural talent performers that ever came out of Hollywood. Judy was asked a few months before she died how often she saw Mickey. She quickly replied "as often as I can."
It's amazing that they each married so many times (him more times than her), but never to each other. And while he has said a million times that she was like family to him more than romantic, it's irresistible to think of them matrimonial. 25 years after their screen pairings, they fit right into place here, and seem to know each other better than anyone else did or would. Thanks for this.
I see little girl facial expressions on judy when shes around mickey .....i think he was one of the few people in her life that made her happy and feel good about her self ....i hope they can meet again someday
Over the years, I have watched this video over and over. Just watch their faces.... every tiny detail....no wasted moment....acting every moment. Then there's their bodies....so tuned into each other.....every move working perfectly together. All those wonderful dances from their movies all those years ago..all the beauty, skill, talent, drive....they still had the magic together all those years later. You can see the joy it gives them to be doing it again together. Incomparable pros. Thank you from my heart, Judy and Mickey❣Whatever woes you had in your personal lives....you were able to give the world a great gift. You lifted our hearts❣❣❣❣❣
That is what you call a true MOVIE COUPLE. When old friends reunited and people have that extra warm feeling they experience when they see them meet each other after a long period of time.
I used to think that for years: they were the great love story that never properly finished. But thank God they're reunited here, both older, wiser (?), and still in love with each other some 25 years later.
This was the first show they taped- and the feeling of hopeful jubilation is palpable. The Edith Head dress in inspired, fashion-forward, glam but kicky. (EH was dumped as the show's designer in favor of more "sequined" Ray Aghayan)). But, the number itself, their pure fun and showmanship is what makes it an infectious joy to watch. Two consummate pros doing what they do- to perfection. My favorite number from the JG Show dvds. Thanks, Chumpy for making it ever-ready to savor!
Today is June 22. I believe it was 40 years ago today Judy Garland left us. Watching this leaves no doubt that she was the greatest! And Mickey was damn good, too!
Great clip of Mickey and Judy in their forties. They both still looked pretty good here, seemed happy, and mixed well. You can see here that Mickey was a pretty good dancer. It's sad to hear that his family's stealing from him. I remember he declared bankruptcy in the '70s or early '80s. The guy's gotta be about 90 now, and he didn't look too well the last time I saw him on TV. His family should let the man live out his remaining time in peace.
I read, I believe in Mickey Rooney's autobiography of some years ago, that he *did* propose to her in 1968. She was ill and in hospital at the time. Anyway, it is said she refused. I've often read that their love for each other was more of the Brother/Sister variety than as lovers.
We still do. Search popular stuffs like k-pop and Avengers in fan sites like tumblr and reddit, you'll find media is actually making these cult followers louder and louder as time goes by.
I love when she takes off her shoe, and sits or lays on the floor. Most big stars would never do that, Judy was the biggest star ( the legend ) of them all. Judy wasn't a snob or to good to sit or lay on the floor.
All love is not intended to be romantic. Their's was a bond much similar to that between brother and sister, and span from their earliest meetings until Garland's death.
Love to watch these 2. They had a special kinda magic together. Always wonder why they never married......maybe it wasn't the marriage special. But they had magic together ❤️❤️
Mickey liked blonde bombshells he liked glamor girls when he was younger and Judy tended to go for older guys who were like father figures to her because her father died when she was a teenager and he was very close to her.
Judy was taller than mickey! She was so gracefull and cha rming. One of the greatest and tortured talents the world has ever seen. And yet, her optomisum seemed to always shine through.p
This was from the first taped episode of the series [Judy insisted on Mickey being her initial guest], taped in June 1963, but withheld until it finally aired on December 8, 1963.
Great tip, Mom. Thank you; I'll look for it. Sometimes in retrospect, though, people give puff-piece "tribute" interviews, especially connected with retrospective product sales. Nothing wrong with tributes; Judy deserved them all. But, there surely was a terribly dark side of the rainbow, as chronicled by not only Mel Torme, but her own daughter, Lorna Luft, who confirmed many of Torme's points.
CBS should've aired this as their first show. I bett more viewers would have tuned in. Even though the Donald O'Connor show rated pretty high for the first show. It was amazing to see these two stars who really worked Magic at MGM. They made 10 films together and were the first teenage sensation combo. They were very in tuned to the other and it showed. They had a few stars who did the show more than once & Mickey Should've been one of them.
They are VERY PROFESSIONAL!!🤩 A few mistakes but I love how they went on. THE SHOW MUST GO ON!😊 Man Mr Rooney: Why didn't you marry her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rest in peace :)
The amazing thing is all the stuff that was going on behind the scenes of her TV series, as chronicled by Mel Torme in his book about Judy Garland. He was her musical director of the program (until he was fired). He pulls no punches in his book, boy. The truth hurts, in this case.

Beautifully put. Thank you!
Meh. Rooney had 1 brother and 1 half-brother.
Amen😊
I loved this! Judy and Mickey were fantastic together, the way they danced. They had great chemistry! Where are there stars like that today?
Thank you Mickey for all the great memories. Now you and Judy can sing & dance the night away, again!
I love this clip. They are so comfortable together. Think how many times they performed together on stage and in the movies. Man, what a wonderful party they're having now up there! Rest in Peace Mickey and Judy.
Lealonna AMEN INDEED. 😇
Both such amazing legends, truly.
Two of Americas greatest national treasures. They will live forever in our hearts...
These two are the 2 GREATEST entertainers to EVER step in front of a camera.
This just put a big smile on my face. Delightful to see them together again.
i. love. this. I'm okay with Judy Garland's many marriages I'm just sad he wasn't one of them!!
Those 2 were always so adorable together!

They would've been the perfect couple.
Yes they would have been. But she was insecure about her looks and he didn’t find her as attractive as the other bombshells he was pulling back then.
@@kimberlybaffour2438 aww just like the Andy hardy films :/
They are both too short, their future kids will have harder lives
@@noorclean2915 most people were short
@@kimberlybaffour2438 they. were. best. friends. he even considered her as his freaking sister.
Great dancers ! Great actors ! Amazing performance and Judy Garland is so beautiful !
I see little girl facial expressions on judy when shes around mickey .....i think he was one of the few people in her life that made her happy and feel good about her self ....i hope they can meet again someday
I come back and watch this at least once a week. it's just so perfect and judy is in her element!

Mickey has joined Judy to put on the ultimate show. RIP.

R i p Judy in Mickey. Love all 😇
I used to think that for years: they were the great love story that never properly finished. But thank God they're reunited here, both older, wiser (?), and still in love with each other some 25 years later.
Mickey still looks cute even at that age.

0:29 oh my god she made the exact same face when Mickey kissed her on her 16th birthday some things never change😍😍
I thought the very same thing! That footage at L.B. Mayer's house (outside) came to mind instantly!

He died wealth.
I have never seen that clip. What two tremendously talented people, and their friendship shows through. ❤️
Still singing and dancing together and lighting up the screen with their talent!

i love how she kicks off her shoes!

This is such a lovely upload.
Esses dois são inesquecíveis ❤
Talent at the highest level. That was Judy & Mickey.
All love is not intended to be romantic. Their's was a bond much similar to that between brother and sister, and span from their earliest meetings until Garland's death.
They are both so tiny, which makes them adorable. They look like small old (but not in a bad way) children.
Only the best!
Mickey said in 1:28 "You gonna be a big star someday" ... and she became in a world big star!
One word. LEGENDARY.
Estupenda pareja .Muy buenas sys peluculas.
They still together 😊
Good friendship ❤
what a magical duo imagine if they got married what that would be like xxxx
* Great reuniting of 2 wonderful former teen movie stars! 😆
i know! he's seriously been around since the very first movies. ever. that's insane! he's so great
Two very small humans with extremely big talent. Kinda puts the reality shows of today to shame.
Two ole pros having fun.
Talento!
Love to watch these 2. They had a special kinda magic together. Always wonder why they never married......maybe it wasn't the marriage special. But they had magic together ❤️❤️
I liked the way she danced. Kids together.
Neat! Thank you.
great oldie.
This seemed like kinda one of the more underrated, great TV moments of the 1960s. 🤗
Two GIANT TALENTS. There was a time long ago when you could act, but also dance and sing. What do we have now and since the 1940's and 50's?
MIckey really did have loads of talent. Fun stuff.
Mickey liked blonde bombshells he liked glamor girls when he was younger and Judy tended to go for older guys who were like father figures to her because her father died when she was a teenager and he was very close to her.
Good grief, I have never realized how short these two were. Judy is taller, but compared to other actors she was pretty small herself

Pure class! This was entertainment! Miley Cyrus take notes!
I can't remember but he's still wonder full with that boyish charm
They are VERY PROFESSIONAL!!🤩 A few mistakes but I love how they went on. THE SHOW MUST GO ON!😊

She looks so pretty here. Great haircut.

I noticed too.
