- Not sure why he went down. 2011 CBR 600rr slides out in an unusual spot and hits the rail hard. Don't think he hit the brake. Amazing though the rider was uninjured and with a bit of work the bike was ridden home. Anyone notice ... he completely took out one of the guardrail supports?

This Park sign describes "the Snake"
"You are standing at the top of curves that road enthusiasts affectionately call "The Snake". Over the years Mulholland Highway has tested the merits of cars from Duesenbergs to Teslas. This particular stretch of road is a mecca for motorcyclists. It's sharp turns offer an adrenaline rush and a chance for fun, fame and often folly.
To your left is "Edwards Corner". It was named after the late Ed Savko, long-time owner of the Rock Store., a popular road house just down the hill. Hundreds of riders have (----) on this challenging 180- degree curve, perhaps showing off for spectators, who often gather here. Other succumb safely to the charm of "The Snake." "
Thanks for watching!
"It's not the speed that kills you, it's the sudden stopping that does." That looked rough just because he stopped so quickly
code3kc Nice little spin burnt off all his momentum in rotation, which was nice. If he had hit a wall instead, different story.
code3kc yes
code3kc who did you quote?
Shaquira-Taiquana Jashanna Tyteyana Patriciana Yoseline The Internet... Lol I'm not sure who said it originally, but I remember seeing it on a Jeremy Clarkson meme, he's one of the former hosts of a British show called Top Gear
code3kc it's depressing that you said "former"
One thing I like about you Americans, you help each other out in emergencies. In London all the feckers just cross the road and pretended they cant see you.
Thunderous71 Think that is a UK thing.. i fell off my bike on a roundabout once and people just drove around me lol...
Myxo Rides Same here in Germany
DasSonnenkreuz
Really? I would have thought that to be the other way around....huh
Thunderous71 I've low-sided my R1200GSA in Germany last year and it took maybe 30 seconds for the first guy to show up and help me with lifting the bike. A woman in a car also stopped and aks if she should warn the following traffic and I told her thanks, but I'll be fine - this'll only take a minute (which was the truth). Happend at night btw.
Typical 20 something year old blaming equipment for his lack of skill.
Stevo Reno nah bro, khaki shorts, flip flops, buddy holly sunglasses, no helmet and a sleeveless shirt. That's the proper way to get fucked up.
***** Correct... www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Squid
***** duh, hence the Acronym; So Quick Until I Die
cigarobsession i have those tires on my bike, those are actually the spec tire for most motorcycle super sport races here in the states. they are Dunlop Q3 Sportmax. rated for 53 degrees of lean angle. it wasn't the tires fault.
cigarobsession I don't think the guy saying he hates those tires was the rider. That seemed like some random kid there saying dumb shit
wait, did that guy say " you don't even have frame sliders?" I'm no expert but I don't think it would have saved the bike,,
Lol, agree
***** Exactly this is why I haven't had sliders on any of my bikes. Buddy high sided his and when it landed, slider took most of the impact and bent the frame. Bike was trash.
***** Frame sliders are nice for when you drop the bike, but not when you highside haha
..I'm no expert..hahaha, good one.
no guarantee
2:47 Coolest most epic break dance finish ever
"I fucking hate these tires". Yeah, blame it on the tires.
My response too
DOHCtor No way he was making it coming in that hot. Even if he had slicks on I still don't think it'd be possible.
DOHCtor yup
Brett Rusling you not watched the other videos on this channel of the guys on slicks racing up the mountain? Ok they are on super bikes but they are going way way faster.
Seems to be dust on the road or something that takes out most people on these roads?
bikerboi1983 Dirt can cause issues but for the most part the riders getting taken out are usually going to fast, or have bad body position or are supporting themselves with the bars and tucking the front end in or just generally make some error. Gotta be very very well versed with the roads before you go knee down.
It takes a lot to make a bike go down. Steady throttle with no sudden inputs at full lean and you can pretty much go through any corner without anything upsetting the bike.
His entry speed was way too high. He ran into the corner, and then tried to turn harder and brake. If you see his front wheel in the slow motion footage he has the front end turned into the corner and you can see him grab the brake which is what caused him to loose it and have the wheel hit full lock after it looses traction.
holy crap, he coulda been heard reallllll bad
6 foot Yamaha whatupppp are you black
Respect!
***** yeah he was loud.
Michael Brown Are you brown?
Lucky dude
Anyone notice? . he completely took out one of the guardrail supports?
RNickeyMouse At least he immediately replaced it...with his bike.
RNickeyMouse Is the city going to come after him for the repair of that guardrail???
Ynjjjm8 ttyub
Q
+RNickeyMouse Why dont you put an metal plate under the guardrail, so noone can silde under it. Like in Germany on high traffic roads with a lot of curves ?!?!!
+RNickeyMouse Like that's something to brag about...
For reference, the bike in this video has a set of Dunlop Q3's which seems to have a decent amount of life left. For the rider to blame the tires is pure idiocracy. Accept your mistakes, learn from them, and hone your skills.
You need to understand your mistake in order to learn from them.
What did he do wrong? Grab a handful of front brake?
@@GadgetMart
He didn't know how to lean his body into the turn, which is an essential skill when cornering at higher speeds. His butt was planted in the seat, which forced him to counter-steer the bike over the tire grip limit in order to make the turn. As a result, he only made it worse.
T N as the owner of the bike, he should have been aware of any issue with the bike prior to going for a ride. If the tires were new, he should have gone easy and scrubbed them in for a bit before trying to open it up. It’s always the riders fault in a single motorcycle accident.
@@mickeypopa eh, he probably just accelerated while adding lean angle while doing limit entry speed. That's not a good recipe.
Definitely, there was way too much lean angle and for a road with a camber introduces huge risk. Rider at fault, never the bike.
Those are actually Dunlop Q3 tires. One of the best tires!
Have to blame something.
Well they're regular q3 tires, the q3 tires are much better but also more expensive
@@jennydiazvigneault5548 бжь.
"I fucking hate these brand new Q3 Dunlops that are used by many top riders in national-level racing series, I'm just too good for them"
People make excuses when they've just screwed up in front of their peers. We all do it. It's kinder to humour them
@@R0BL0W It's a poor craftsman who blames his tools.
@@RyanMcIntyre I do completely agree with this but I think by the same token it's a poor human who doesn't extend just a bit of sympathy to a man who's just written off his pride and joy
what a pain in the ass that would be without all that help lol.
Your everywhere dude lol. Committed to the game
Dankstoppie sup bro how yah been you should stunt ride bro
Dankwheelie i would've dug under the bike to make room, it would take a long time but if that's your only option is doable
SHOULD HAVE LEFT THE BIKE UNDER THE GUARD RAIL. Insurance won't fix it anyway. Should have just left it as a reminder of stupidity and riding under the influence of being brain-dead.
No way one person could get that bike free’d up
Talk about a grand entrance
97blueninja about a 7 grand entrance.
Front wheel was turning in like he was trying to stand t up. Probably in too hot.
A lot of these videos show excellent support and help from strangers. Really restores some faith in humanity :)
At least he was smart enough to be wearing full gear.
I'm glad the rider was okay, but he'll be sore the next day. That's a golden rule of riding. Some days you and the bike are one, some it'll cheat on you with a guard rail.
He got lucky... That had all the makings of a broken something right there. The bike can be replaced, I am just happy the rider made it out without a scratch!
"Fucking hate these tires..." Lmafo
DAYTONAFONZY 675 Yeah i laughed at that guys comment also. Nothing wrong with Q3's, great tires.
enthizM Have a set myself.. LOVE em lol
Ze German I used to hate Dunlop across the board, decided to try the Q3 anyway when they did the rebate thing last year because I'm a tightwad. Took them to VIR for a track day, did some of my best laps ever. Truly confidence inspiring tire, whatever caused the crash it wasn't those awesome hoops. On the off chance the dude that wrecked ever sees this comment, if you really hate those tires, I will be more than happy to take them off your hands.
DAYTONAFONZY 675 I loved the Q2s and feel the same about the Q3, no issues with them whatsoever. Amazing tire.
Great camera work- again! Good to see a new video!
***** Thanks Jeff
***** "Good to see a new video!". Wtf dude, its better for me when i don't see new video of crash, i can't understand how someone like to see how people crash their bikes or cars... Or get injured... Thats not good man! Sorry for bad english.
Milan Dereta It's not that we want to see people crash, or even get injured, but there are many lessons that can be learned to maybe help prevent someone else from doing the same thing.
Milan Dereta I post both good riding & errors, this is the reality of the sport
Milan Dereta Why torture yourself watching these videos if it keeps you up at night? I just complimented the man on his camera skills. Whether he got it on camera or not, it happened and nothing can change that.
Everyone knows that pause while on the ground. " I didn't get insurance yet, I figure I'd get the leathers first".
JimmyGunXD556 That behaviour will always baffle me. Even when I was a dirt poor college student living off a student loan I made room in my budget to pay for full comp. I have yet to cash in on a crash though, never really had one serious enough to justify an insurance payout. My partner, on the other hand, did with a "fender bender" which totalled $5000 in damages to his own bike.
JimmyGunXD556 You gotta get both. I came out of getting hit going "Noo my new bike, I'll have to get a new one now!" instead of "Noo my new bike! and also, my head! and neither can be fixed!"
JimmyGunXD556 nah he has plates so he has insurance
Full coverage on a supersport is unaffordable for young riders lol
I meant he might have it cause he has plates. And also, he could have minimum insurance or a high deductible and thats why he acted like that.
Thank you for all of your videos, especially the ones that offer an insight into what went wrong. No one (unless you're devoid of a soul) wants to see someone injured or killed and if the video states that either happens I personally will not watch it. That said your videos are a great tool for anyone to see and learn from common mistakes and even in some cases recover from them without going down.
One thing I do like. The comradery of others helping out !
I like how he pauses at the end, like a breakdancer after a backspin.
I'm starting to think people stand on that corner with cameras just for the crashes. haha
You just starting ?
It is up for years , search Mulholland crash and there are hours of it :D
What a mess :(
LOVE YOUR VIDS BRO YOURE HILARIOUS!!!!!
+AdjrianNickelodeon Seriously, throw a leg over and do some more runs. JK JK.
stupid motorcycle drivers wreck here daily, and if they hit a car they blame the car.
ThreeDaysOfDan just attention seeking or there stupid. I'm a car guy but I don't mind them in my area. But some of these bikers in there videos are shitheads 👍🏼
Oh damn, epic dismount there. How that bike was able to be ridden home is amazing.
VR46 helmets don't give you VR46 ability.
I love the motorcycle brotherhood, we'll always be there to help each other.
At least the guard rail did its job
And his gear too.
Does anyone signal bikers to slow down while they recover the bike? I'd hate to see a 2nd bike plow into everyone :\
AspieThinker they do almost every time.
AspieThinker No it's a free for all of dumb ass holes :)
AspieThinker Crashes are extremely common on Mulholland Drive. The majority of riders are aware of that and you can see this spot well ahead in both directions.
mcgaugh57 Sarcastic and completely true statement at the same time. Well done, sir.
Razorfish I know, right :)
I have learned so much about how important your gear is in a crash! I'm glad to see that these guys were gear.
How did you NOT get video of him riding that thing away after lol, that's what I really wanted to see!
He's not going to have to worry about hating those tires....cuz that sh$t is totaled!
The bike was ridden home!!..mostly cosmetic damage man. It's crazy what these bikes can hold up to
That's even crazier then the crash. I was sure it was done for the day.
***** It would be totalled if he took it to an insurance company.
and claim a one vehicle accident?? so his insurance can go even more than it prob already is in California... idk about all that
***** insurance isn't expensive here
Damn, that poor bike! It didn't even have frame sliders... :(
Awesome instant street fighter. Glad he was all right. Nice camera work as usual.
Ouchh! Guess he needs a pair of pirelli supercorsa!
But glad he's ok, despite the bike ending up very damaged!
Really??? Do those help on sand, because I'm not so sure...
They said go up the road
& turn left ???
;)
Damn glad he's walking...nice Capture
RNM
Bike was ridden home...wow..that shit looked trashed when they pulled it out.
Sorry to see a nice bike go to the graveyard.
Anyone can go fast and no skill necessary, but skilled riders knows how to quickly slow down and stop safely.
Thanks for sharing the footage, always entertaining.
I like that everyone comes together to help each other out
F!ck even I felt that! No one had tie wraps; nothing that a few tie wraps couldn't fix.... and a pick up truck!
Not the tires fault.
Why is there no double guardrail? Would prohibit injuries or worse in the future.
***** He seemed fine, guard rail did its job.
Armco is an unforgiving mistress.
Glad rider was alright. One thing about those riders is that they gear up.
Like a new bike,it's on warranty ?
In France in the hard turn we have a second guardrails below the highest.
LMAO...this dude did a Abercrumbie and Finch model pose right after he crashed knowing he was on film hahaha. Watch it again and see the pose!
Most, if not all of your braking should be done before you lean. Just about any tire made will stick (providing road is in good shape) to the point of lifting the rear wheel in the air if the bike is erect. Also, without braking and keeping a steady throttle, any z rated tire can come extremely close to dragging a peg or knee. However, no tire stands up well to breaking while leaning. One lock up and you see exactly what happened here. No time for correcting. Nice vid, teaches a great lesson.
Good job to those dudes who pretty much had to engineer the extraction. :D Funny when that one guy said, 'Ride it home'. Or not. In Soviet Russia, guardrail rides you!
Hard to tell but it looked like he was coming in too hot with bad body position....and maybe his tires suck.could be wrong just guessing
Night Rider There had to have been some dirt on the road too
Josh A
Yeah i forgot that
Night Rider Its not the tires. People do just fine with those tires and they're rated upto 53 degrees. He went in too hot and in the slow motion footage you see him tucking the front end in. You can see him grab a handful of brake too. Trail braking is fine but going into a corner that hot without counter steering leads to all the issues.
Also a lot of riders have claimed that there's dirt or oil or whatever else at the snake. You can see a puff of smoke from him locking up the front at full lean. He also has his front wheel turned in towards the corner. That alone tells you he tucked the front end in. If he were countersteering and the front end looses it, it could be because of dirt, or oil or a bad tire. There wasn't anything on the road that caused him to crash. Just bad judgement of corner entry speed. AKA he's a noob and needs more time gaining an understanding of what the bike and tires can handle. But at least he was geared up so he just walks away from the crash which is always good to see!
vidurc
Heeey what up! Did they mention what tires hes running?
Night Rider Lol same ol same! Ive been eyeing those tires myself. They're Dunlop Q3 Sportmax. They're quite agressive and don't last too long from what I've heard but they are really sticky tires.
Too fast going in the turn, figured that when it was too late, so used brakes...
And as almost all sport bike rides he use only the front.
I heard at least a thousand times the phrase "but why use the rear brake , the front stops much better".
@@cherniqhs i mean the problem is your rear brake has something like 20%-30% of the overall stopping power. If you drag your rear brake in the corner you won't really slow down. The only way he was supposed to brake is trail braking he should have used the front brake just a little bit.... That was his only option
What a nightmare...thanks to good people willing to help
"You don't even have frame sliders." Yeah those would have saved his bike alright. LMAO
I love the pose after the crash lol he was camera ready immediately
In South Australia they are now placing another rail underneath the existing one on the approaching corners to prevent motorcyclists getting chopped up which nearly happened in this video..
This second rail is mandatory for years in Portugal. The law was approved by all MPs, something unheard of before.
Whaaaaaaaaaaa uuuuupppp GAURD RAIL. uuughhhhhhhh!
Oh bash041, lol!!
Bash 042 how yah been bro
Bash041 oh dear lord Bash...
Yo.
Why didnt they just undo the Armco? About 10 years ago while out riding with mates in a very hilly winding road we came across a group of parked Harleys. One had lost the front and slid into the Armco and came to rest under it. The rider was pinned under the bike which was in turn under the Armco. We dismantled the Armco to get him and the bike out. When the medics arrived they were impressed with our work. We had left him there supported and they had easy access to him. He had a very badly broken leg but the guy was lucky.
They should have a second lower guardrail installed in that spot, and other high motorcycle accident curves. Surprised no one has broken their neck on the supports yet.
Haha "you could ride it home" always has to be that one guy lol
That guardrail took it like a boss........as usual!
He made the best of it and did a lil sexy pose for the camera while he was lying on the ground
Squid WithGear Drop, spin, pose, and HOLD! Perfect!
No hay que confiarse mucho en las curvas y controlar la velocidad si no se conoce correctamente el camino o hacia nos dirigimos, nunca falta una piedra en el camino
I have always believed that where armaco barriers are installed they should cover the vertical support beams.
There are horrific, life changing injuries inflicted when motorcycle riders and passengers come into contact with these beams, invariably at speed!
There are also fatalities caused from such impacts, which are surely known to the authorities that installed the barriers, so one wonders why such casualties are allowed to continue year on year.
Thankfully this rider escaped being injured.
I GIVE HIM A 9 FOR STABBING THE LANDING PRETTY WELL. Not perfect, but it's a difficult spin to do.
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS OF A SPUD MESSING UP HIS BIKE FOR NO REASON. IT MADE ME HAPPY TO WATCH IT!
Ouch! I'm glad he was ATGATT
Cadd ATGATT?
Zachary Windsor at the gear all the time? You've never heard that saying?
Zachary Windsor stands for all the gear all the time
No. Gear as in leathers and kneepads?
Zachary Windsor Helmet, gloves, jacket, proper trousers and boots. Basically everything is worn always, even if you are just nipping off to the post office don't leave it to chance that's ATGATT.
that one guy was pissing me off, the "wow you dont even have frame sliders" guy
Gotta love that "envogue" pose right after the crash. lol
I like how he just sits there for a minute thinking "what the fuck?"
#1 - dude says "I fucking hate those tires" haha
#2 - same dude says "dude you don't even have frame sliders"
LOL! #WannaBeBikerBoy
Hate it when that happens! Glad he was able to walk away!
"I fucking hate these tires" lol
The bellypan must have gotten a good knock by the looks of it. Also, the way the bike was wriggled out from underneath the guardrail was pure torture to my soul. I was thinking recover the bike from the other side and lift it over onto the road.
"I fucking hate those tyres" Right, some riding lessons wouldn't help, right?
0:20 I love how this dude says "durrhurrr, we're probably gonna have to pull it up under and roll it up that way", then they end up doing completely opposite hahahaha, why you always gotta have that one MR WANNA BE IN CHARGE, MR KNOW IT ALL THAT KNOWS NUTHIN!!!!!
A case study in why guardrails need to be redesigned. Glad he is ok!
Tactical Priority Here in germany we have special guardrails in some places that are pretty much double rails, so besides the normal one there is a second one just below the normal one. Sadly something has to happen until they install it. I crashed at a nice bike-area... a week after my accident someone crashed there too and died since he got caught in the rail... ever since then there is this double-rail.
***** sounds much better. For a guard rail there should be no way to get caught in it. Take care.
Tactical Priority well you'd think with the amount of crashes in that area they would put a better system in, hell you'd think a local group would even have initiative to do something..
Tactical Priority They are designed to do handle public transportation at the posted speed limit. Do you most people obey the speed limits? If you have a double guard rail, rails also cost about 40% more.
There is a budget and YOU can do something about it in your locality if you want change :).
Any post-crash explanation? The video starts too late to really see what happened. Judging by the position of the front tyre it looks like he was on the front brake while in the turn.
When will they finally put a second guardrail below the one that is already there? So many crashes in these corners and so many close calls where divers almost hit the supports....CRAZY
Was that Vin Diesel helping out with the recovery ? Lol !!!!!
His front tucked, he was on the front brakes, which is fair enough if the surface is good and you don't pull too hard. He was going in quite hot.
Lucky guy, the guardrails are truly killers
That's gonnna hurt the next day... Glad he's ok!
Pretty sure the frame sliders comment was referring to the fact that it was difficult already to get the bike out underneath the rail guards.
damn that sucks never wanna see another rider go down. hopefully he learned from this lesson.
...the way he posed at the end !!! Model material !!!
Strange that the agency responsible for highways doesn't put a second protective barrier at the base of the guard rail, as is of the done in Europe. Saves lives. Simply.
Notice what he did wrong? He literally turned his handle bars to turn when he realized he was coming in too hot, didn't even lean into the turn. Stiff as a rock, locked up the front and lost it.
I would have loved to see the video of him riding that thing home...
svrider no vid but pics: shop.rockstorephotos.com/p902268962/h46d57b1e#h46d5dbc4
I recognized guy in white t-shirt. He has irokez on his helmet and lowsided GSXR 600
Most painful video of the month award!
His front end was completely locked to the left as he entered the turn. My guess is he locked up the front brake while leaned over when he realized he entered that corner WAAAAAY too hot. It's not hard to have a last minute freak-out on that corner. It's sharper than it looks as you hit it. Both tires had plenty of tread.
" That's bad , that's bad " lol .... me when I see my friends go down
Looks like he is doing a modeling gig splayed out like that when he stopped spinning! Does anyone know what kind of tires he had that he was blaming?
I'm glad you're ok! Good thing you were wearing your gear!
Glad to see full gear on.
"Honestly it isn't even rideable"...
My face: (-_______-)
Dude struck a pretty sweet pose while on the ground
wtf! why dont they punt another guardrail under the existing so they cant slide under it.....
Nothing like a little adversity to bring people together. Nice job guys.
Looks too fast in the beginning, but then again... what do I know... :\
Why doesn't the guard rail go to the ground? I've seen so many videos of people and bikes sliding underneath
"You don't even have frame sliders!" Yeah bro, that would have totally saved the bike here.
Definitely would be going to the hospital after that one to get my organs checked. Lol
