    Mulholland Hwy has been a top destination for riders in Southern California for many years. The Snake section is a little over two miles long. The turns are tight, limiting speed and injuries in the event of a crash. And there are many crashes but also great riding.
    The road is public but considered a recreational use area. All rules of the road apply but motorcycle and auto enthusiasts are part of the tradition of the area.
    At the top of the Snake there is a park maintained overlook. The sign says:
    "You are standing at the top of curves that road enthusiasts affectionately call "The Snake". Over the years Mulholland Highway has tested the merits of cars from Duesenbergs to Teslas. This particular stretch of road is a mecca for motorcyclists. It's sharp turns offer an adrenaline rush and a chance for fun, fame and often folly.
    To your left is "Edwards Corner". It was named after the late Ed Savko, long-time owner of the Rock Store., a popular road house just down the hill. Hundreds of riders have crashed on this challenging 180- degree curve, perhaps showing off for spectators, who often gather here. Other succumb safely to the charm of "The Snake." "
    Important Note Regarding Spectators: Recently the road has been posted "No Stopping." There are five 1 hour spaces at the overlook that fill up quickly.

      Perhaps not travelling fast enough for the lean centrifugal force ring any bells. Brake while leaning what nonsense you will fall and hit the deck.on replay his arse is right of the saddle ofcourse he will fall needs more speed hence more centrifugal force to clear the bend perhaps just move within the confines of the saddle he would remain on the bike and perhaps cleared the bend had we dropped some gears like to second to support engine brake and good acceleration to clear the bend

    The most documented crash ever. Given the amount of crashes I wonder why the barriers have not been replaced by others more rider friendly, I mean like in other countries the bottom part also has a barrier so you don't run the risk of going under the barrier and hit the posts that hold them up. Maybe some signatures can be collected so the barriers can be changed?

    This is what we call 'safety distance'... This is not a MotoGP track where you just can go around a falling rider, this is a road where you can only use your lane. Too less distance, panic situation, using brakes while entering the corner with good angle. This is why you should always let you're buddy go enough ahead when riding fast.
    And what I'll never understand: Why are there still no double guardrails on this road? I mean look at the gap underneath the guardrail... If you're sliding through this gap with higher speed and you get hooked on the guardrail with your helmet, your head will be ripped off... The first guy can be lucky that he just slid through.

    They were riding way too close to each other. The second guy would have been fine if he had enough space to follow through the turn.

      I agree Number 2 should have just held his line. front rider would have been clear as he immediately slid out of the lane. Minor adjustment to tighten the line if anything at all. This is a classic you go where you look scenario he saw his buddy go down and that's where his eyes went so follows the bike. Easy to say not so easy to do in the moment though.

    Crazy how you watch the 60FPS on-board cameras, and it makes the 30FPS Drone footage look choppy. Either way great video, and cool to see so many different angles of the crash!

    +Chris Doms It can be VERY expensive for a track day, and most actual race tracks tend to be hundreds upon hundreds of miles apart. Most states only having 3-4 maybe 5-6 good ones. And being on the track would more than likely yield the same result.

    • @joeshmoe7967
      @joeshmoe7967 8 лет назад +3

      Yea, if you watch the slo-mo HE is leaning, but not the bike. He easily could have had the bike way farther over and not been knee dragging. Fortunately for him there is this great footage and he can see his mistake, as can other riders. Notice how the 3rd bike behind makes the corner and gets around both crashed bikes with no problem.

      Watching closely, it looks like his butt slipped off the seat, caused him to panic, lift his left knee back up and result in the tires losing traction under the sudden load.

  • @spoonman73

    Pretty sure he literally fell off the bike. The slow-mo reveals the truth when he pulls his knee in and puts more pressure on the bars thus creating more lean angle and lowsiding the motorcycle.

    • @dkh100
      @dkh100 6 лет назад

      spoonman73 think so he’s more than half a ass cheek off the bike probably lost grip of the tank causing more pressure on the bars increasing lens angle and low siding it. Most people don’t understand the point of dragging knee if ya knee touches that’s most of the time max lean angle. Knee down is a guide.

  • @genelawless7568

    Looks like he was too upright, leaning too much, bad tyres, wrong tyre pressure, oil on road, braking too much, not enough braking, too many bumps, not looking forward, throttle too early, not enough throttle, erratic throttle movement, too much clutch, wrong gear, incorrect helmet, poor body position, music too loud, not experienced enough, too experienced, coolant level too low, didn't have breakfast...
    Anything I've missed?

    • @dsp4392
      @dsp4392 8 лет назад

      +Night Rider Second rider wasn't on point. He braked hard in the turn, causing his bike to suddenly straighten up. He reacted by jerking the handlebars, ultimately leading to the crash. Ideal reaction in that case would've been to brake a tiny bit and countersteer to lean as much as possible. Not saying I would've done any better, but #3 did exactly that and it saved him.

    • @schr4nz

      Nope, I worked it out... something on Rider #1's bike was hanging down from the left hand side, I suspect his kick stand somehow got knocked 'partially' down, which means that it didn't hit the kill switch (or actually, maybe he removed his kick-stand kill switch). Could also be something stuck in his frame, like a branch or some shit
