Mulholland Hwy has been a top destination for riders in Southern California for many years. The Snake section is a little over two miles long. The turns are tight, limiting speed and injuries in the event of a crash. And there are many crashes but also great riding.
The road is public but considered a recreational use area. All rules of the road apply but motorcycle and auto enthusiasts are part of the tradition of the area.
At the top of the Snake there is a park maintained overlook. The sign says:
"You are standing at the top of curves that road enthusiasts affectionately call "The Snake". Over the years Mulholland Highway has tested the merits of cars from Duesenbergs to Teslas. This particular stretch of road is a mecca for motorcyclists. It's sharp turns offer an adrenaline rush and a chance for fun, fame and often folly.
To your left is "Edwards Corner". It was named after the late Ed Savko, long-time owner of the Rock Store., a popular road house just down the hill. Hundreds of riders have crashed on this challenging 180- degree curve, perhaps showing off for spectators, who often gather here. Other succumb safely to the charm of "The Snake." "
Important Note Regarding Spectators: Recently the road has been posted "No Stopping." There are five 1 hour spaces at the overlook that fill up quickly.
The third biker is a smart man. I like how he manage to avoid the crash. In seconds he hold his bike straight and break hard then he turn. Thats a good listen. Peace.
he kept some distance asell, the second biker was to close.
3rd rider dodge it because he had a bmw and didn't want to crash it lol...
If you have abs break immediately. If not still start while straightening
Perhaps not travelling fast enough for the lean centrifugal force ring any bells. Brake while leaning what nonsense you will fall and hit the deck.on replay his arse is right of the saddle ofcourse he will fall needs more speed hence more centrifugal force to clear the bend perhaps just move within the confines of the saddle he would remain on the bike and perhaps cleared the bend had we dropped some gears like to second to support engine brake and good acceleration to clear the bend
If you listen really close.. you can hear my R6 insurance going up!
LOL. Perfect comment
you don't have to listen that close
:DDD
🤣🤣
It's a cbr
props to that 3rd rider for not washing out with them. nice save
Yeah 3rd biker knows how to ride. He did not panic too much and did a splendid job emergency braking while leaned over on a turn. It's probably not his first time almost crashing like that.
Chris Oda he perfectly countersteer his bike and avoid it as fast as lightning
That was ABS that saved him. No ABS, he would have locked his wheel and crashed too. The S1000R is an amazing machine
Not even in the MotoGP you would get so many angles of your crash :-P
Hope both riders are ok!
Lujoopoi 7ioiiu
Well that's just stupid.....they have what's called racetracks for that...dumbfucks
@@robertm3931 Take a chill pill dude.
+@@flybeep1661
Let's see you take a chill pill after a callous driver or rider like these fuckheads crashes into you on a public road.
...b0
That was awesome you included the other folk's footage. Makes for an amazing video! Well done everyone!
+TAOFLEDERMAUS And there were still a couple phone videos of the crash I never got. Most recorded crash of all time haha
+TAOFLEDERMAUS You ride Jeff?
RNickeyMouse Not very much anymore.
***** That's why we all love him
+RNickeyMouse but completely include footage of bikes after the crash
and what do we learn from that? keep your distance when riding in a group.
NicoTrico that the rider has horrible position on the bike :)
and you don't have to have your knee down to turn a corner ahahaha
Where you're looking is where you go !
@@radoslawjablonski8258 I swear man.. they riding too aggressive for no money to be involved smh already suited n booted just hit tha track 🤷🏾♂️
How many crashes happen at that corner a day? It must be the most famous corner in motorcycling by now!
+Barnfish On a busy weekend, maybe 1 or 2.
Wow!
+Barnfish Highwaypatrol/Sheriff's as well frequent the area.
+racer98 Where is it? I saw this corner in a lot of videos, i wonder where to go there and visit!
+Moshkopf Thanks, i got it
Don't ride that close together. When I'm with my buddies, we always keep a few cars or so between us for this EXACT same reason. Not everyone is a GP rider, and I'm not either. Glad to know no-one sustained any injuries.
i agree!
Even a GP crashes from time to time
@@aravind787 but everything is set up to be in their favor if they crash unlike these public mountain roads where u could go flying over a hill the next minute
"I dislocated my shoulder but its ok its back"
+eddiefara :))
You alrigh joey?
Nice save by the 3rd guy
+Dan Dănuț cornering ABS on the S1000RR
Certainly riding to the edge of their ability's . Leading rider certainly has an unusual posture, looks like he was trying to force his knee down without actually leaning the bike causing a lack of weight over the tyre and it washing out.
Fantastic film work RnickeyMouse
+Nicholai Chev when you're riding and trying to copy your hero's riding position rather than taking on a natural posture and listening to your bike... this stuff happens
5:24 look at his finger.... ouchhhhhh :/
Dammm
Ahhhhhh! Lol
Dammit, this sucks...
But acctually this is the best crash video I've ever seen! hahaha
Well these things happen. I guess I could leave that comment on like 90% of your vids. Doing it anyways!
The only reason these things happen is that when these things happen people just say "these things happen" and that's why they happen.
The 2nd dude was all crossed up
What was hanging off the left side of the KTM? Kick stand?
that guy on the s1000rr had some damn good reaction skills.
Bloke on the KTM needs to lean the bike not just hang off the side, terrible riding style
The most documented crash ever. Given the amount of crashes I wonder why the barriers have not been replaced by others more rider friendly, I mean like in other countries the bottom part also has a barrier so you don't run the risk of going under the barrier and hit the posts that hold them up. Maybe some signatures can be collected so the barriers can be changed?
Maybe slow the fuck down going round the corner? But that's just common sense, no-one uses it
Probably because 3/4s of the accidents that happen are not recorded .
@@NomyNomyNomNom You must be a fun person...
They need to install barbed wire and spikes as a deterrent.
The least common of all senses...
Production value is through the roof these days!
I'm glad everyone is okay, and what an awesome job on the footage, it makes you feel like you're one of the riders.
Thank you!
Hope his shoulder goes back to normal and him back on the snake.
Broken thumb for sure at 5:24
+hirvimies just dislocated.. but is back! hehe
That 3rd bike had some serious skills/luck in avoiding the two riders, kudos to rnicky for putting all the footage together.

+ACHris Got ya, added your link in description
+ACHris Its rough seeing brother riders go down. Glad they were OK. Loving the quadcopter view.
+Bikes & Drones Gladly they are all fine and in good spirits.
ACHris Bikes can be fixed or replaced. Riders are fine, that's what counts at the end of the day.
Absolutely loved the drone footage. Do you cover this spot often? Should should team up with RNickeyMouse more often!
"yea.... My bad Dave..." made me chuckle a little. Those are words from guys that are having a little fun, and knew the risks before going out.
Well...that sucks!!! Glad they're both okay.
Yeahhhh :/
Great braking by the 3rd guy.
The DMV be like "Remember that 2-3 second gap we told you about... yea."
dang. Glad they're both alright. Nice touch with the multiple camera angles
ABS saved the third biker from crashing?
+spiroslouis1 i think you're correct.
I don't know much about Russia, but i do know one thing. they desperately need to update their driving school/classes or requirements to receive a license at least.
+spiroslouis1 It's possible, that S1000 has the Bosch 9MP lean-sensitive ABS.
They don't. It's not an upgradable part yet for the 2015+ RRs, only the 13-14 HP4s. Nor did the ABS light flash on the cluster to the left of the tach.
3 was still trailing the brakes so he could use more of them. 2 was on the gas so too difficult to stop at lean with these tires. so 3 a bit of luck and good skill.
Great job on this one as always. All the different views were amazing to see. Glad no one was seriously injured, including you!
No 3 rider had mad skills. That's all I have to say.
+gregalabama yea he got out of the way so calmly, but this is the reason i wont ever go on group rides, first of all, there is bound to be one idiot who falls and secondly, when you have that much testosterone in one place, stupid shit will happen with guys trying to out do each other and etc, its really pointless and costly
The first shot with the drone is amazing! I'm glad both riders are okay.
Love the drone footage!
This is what we call 'safety distance'... This is not a MotoGP track where you just can go around a falling rider, this is a road where you can only use your lane. Too less distance, panic situation, using brakes while entering the corner with good angle. This is why you should always let you're buddy go enough ahead when riding fast.
And what I'll never understand: Why are there still no double guardrails on this road? I mean look at the gap underneath the guardrail... If you're sliding through this gap with higher speed and you get hooked on the guardrail with your helmet, your head will be ripped off... The first guy can be lucky that he just slid through.
if the guy on the honda didnt clamp his front break he might have gotten through that..
+warmfreeze That would had happend if he wasn't that close. I hope that the guys came out without any injury, but one of the bikes is wrecked.
that s1000rr rider at the end did well!
+beyondbiking i think the cornering ABS saved him
The quality of your footage is unreal, keep up the amazing work!

Wow! You can really see that 'hump' on the POV. No wonder everyone's front ends get unsettled there.
Talk about cameras everywhere!! Awesome coverage.
Superb riding from the guy at 3:00 -- avoiding that crash with quick breaking and sweeping the area to slow riders who may not be aware of the crash.
They always wipe out right there on the off camber left. I hope they're ok.
Thanks for all your vids. There's a lot to learn from all the footage you provide. You're awesome!
Everyone is ok..Wow New shot on dron...very Cool hi shot..
Fantastic vid, never seen so many angles of the same crash! Glad to see it looked like everyone was ok.
Very nice movie and drone action. No mercy for the riders its to fast its public road.
Bummer :( glad riders are ok!
+MicBergsma thanks bro
Thought I heard the KTM rider say he dislocated his shoulder? Sucks about the crash but glad to see everyone walk away! Awesome community that shared so many cameras and POV!
I was wondering how the KTM rider ended up on the other side of the guardrail...then I saw that he slid UNDER it. Wow, he was lucky he didn't catch a wood post.
+YakoffShmirnoff They really should upgrade that guardrail...
+YakoffShmirnoff They need to close that guardrail
These videos are nearing total Hollywood professional quality
This is an epic video.
Everybody goes down on the exact same spot....
I thought they would have figured it out since.
There are several bumps and depressions causing loss of front grip.
You need MORE QUICKER REBOUND ability on shocks !
SOFTER SHOCKS !!!!!
+michaelovitch good point, most people think that they need to "harden" the damping if they want to go fast
sick save by the guy on the s1000rr
is he searching Joe under the bike? :D
L0L
That's why riding so close is not a good idea, btw nice work with the new drone shoots!
That ktm guy was dragging knee with plenty of lean to go
his side stand was down
On a supermoto you just lean the bike, not so much body language....just a bit counter steer for quick direction changes.
Damn, really stepped it up with the POV's, we can properly see it from the rider's perspective now. And the drone footage is just awesome!
Happens to you if kneekown is number 1 priority.. 30 degree lean maybe :D
Nice reaction by the bmw.
i was thinking the same thing about unecessary kneedown.
So relieved to know Joey is ok.
Guy at 3:41 handled it so well !!
S1000RR rider must have had pucker factor of 10. Nice evasive maneuver. Another terrific video.
Good avoidance to the S1000RR, good driver.
I'm just glad Shon didn't crash his RC51 hehe.
Joey, Shon, I'm glad both of you are alright.
+StraightSuccess THANKS BUD
Whew, glad they're alright, and glad the S1000RR made it out unscathed.
+SW20AE86 thanks
Drone POV is awesome !
Never seen a crash so well documented from so many different angles...
Rider of first bike's thinking process: "Must. Get. Knee.Down." While throwing his body in to some gymnast type stretches.
Glad they're both alright, but still laughing at that.
Well since he's still scraping hard parts even when "crazy" hanging off it would only be worse using any other technique (eg. foot-out or not hanging off as much). So I don't see what's funny about it. ?
He wants to lean so bad he's hanging on the steer instead of leaning on his right leg.
the dude on the bmw s1000rr third in the row did very well to avoid getting caught up in the crash second the guy on the cbr 600rr who was second in the pack and went down doesnt look much like a friend as he didnt even check to see if hes friend was ok who also went down at the front of the pack third the camera footage on this video is awesome alaways love watching your videos dude
***** sorry my bad!
as always great video!
I'm sad for the riders that have dropped .... But yet I'm curious what drone was used here? That was really a nice touch!
Great drone work!
Mr. 3rd guy: BIG props on dodgin that shakeup!
thats what you get for putting a knee down when you dont have too...
Got many angles covered Nice collaboration. You know I liked the drone shots.
They were riding way too close to each other. The second guy would have been fine if he had enough space to follow through the turn.
+CLUTCH1st VLOGS Agreed, second guy also woulda been fine if he didnt panic brake.
I agree Number 2 should have just held his line. front rider would have been clear as he immediately slid out of the lane. Minor adjustment to tighten the line if anything at all. This is a classic you go where you look scenario he saw his buddy go down and that's where his eyes went so follows the bike. Easy to say not so easy to do in the moment though.
Crazy how you watch the 60FPS on-board cameras, and it makes the 30FPS Drone footage look choppy. Either way great video, and cool to see so many different angles of the crash!
Cool, drone. Next level.
15 seconds into the video and I just wanna say the C2 Corvette is awesome!
"Lol guys look at me I can go as fast as a sport bike on my motard! Look I can even put my knee down just like you!"
*Splat*
Usually the motards are some of the fastest bikes up here.
Yes, but only if the keep their fucking ass on the seat an d use the height advantage.. the dude in the font just cant ride... He could've gone so sharp but no the knee has to come down...
Dani M
Agreed lmao
Gotta get that foot out and scrape the peg!
A good example to others watching how not to ride in a group, glad there was no major injury, could have been a lot worse.
Dat seam in the road doe.
Always that corner, that dark patch on the road. It never fails.
And this is why I ride solo. Too many riders have something to prove. Leave the ego at home when you suit up to ride.
I'm the same. I know I'm slow but I enjoy my rides, I don't trash my bikes and I go home alive.
+UnlearnEverything NO EGO'S...JUST RIDE AND PUSH EACH OTHER TO GET BETTER. I HAVE DEFINITELY IMPROVED MY SKILL RIDING WITH THESE GUYS. WE'VE ALL MADE EACH OTHER BETTER RIDERS. WOULDN'T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY.
+SHON GERMAINE Why are you yelling?
+4GeeGaming He clearly feels very passionate about group riding 😍
+Chris Doms It can be VERY expensive for a track day, and most actual race tracks tend to be hundreds upon hundreds of miles apart. Most states only having 3-4 maybe 5-6 good ones. And being on the track would more than likely yield the same result.
i wouldnt have even leaned off my bike at that speed and they were getting full on knee down action, bound to happen
Yea, if you watch the slo-mo HE is leaning, but not the bike. He easily could have had the bike way farther over and not been knee dragging. Fortunately for him there is this great footage and he can see his mistake, as can other riders. Notice how the 3rd bike behind makes the corner and gets around both crashed bikes with no problem.
He should have had his shoulder further out and not trying to get his knee down.
Watching closely, it looks like his butt slipped off the seat, caused him to panic, lift his left knee back up and result in the tires losing traction under the sudden load.
best motorcycle safety channel ever, every mistake ever made
Breaks my heart when nice bikes get damaged
Amazing to hear "are you alright joey?" in 5 different ankles
5 ankles?I only have 2
+Riding Japan you must be fun at parties
+Zacapa Havana so I have been told
Why ride so close behind each other, the 2nd guy could've avoided that by keeping a bit of distance. He must be gutted!
Keeping up for the shot or with the pack?
+Jay C look likes he was riding beyond his limit as well.
+FN 2368 yes both of them were pushing too hard, you can see the 2nd guy lose and regain control at the first turn. The camera from the guy behind him caught it better, but it's still visible on the POV.
+Mario “QiViiN” Mróz its called a power slide. he does that most runs at that spot...ggggaaaaaasssssss
3:22 damn that bmw rider is good, his reaction, all of it, a pro
Still wondering why these guys don't keep it on the track. Dang guardrails can take your head off.
because it's so much more cool to have a audience watch you wreck.
Because they don't give a shit about the safety of the motoring public and think they can do what they want whenever they want.
that footage from the BMW is incredible
Pretty sure he literally fell off the bike. The slow-mo reveals the truth when he pulls his knee in and puts more pressure on the bars thus creating more lean angle and lowsiding the motorcycle.
spoonman73 think so he’s more than half a ass cheek off the bike probably lost grip of the tank causing more pressure on the bars increasing lens angle and low siding it. Most people don’t understand the point of dragging knee if ya knee touches that’s most of the time max lean angle. Knee down is a guide.
Nice video, cool drone view. What drone were you using? DJI Phantom 3?
Looks like he was too upright, leaning too much, bad tyres, wrong tyre pressure, oil on road, braking too much, not enough braking, too many bumps, not looking forward, throttle too early, not enough throttle, erratic throttle movement, too much clutch, wrong gear, incorrect helmet, poor body position, music too loud, not experienced enough, too experienced, coolant level too low, didn't have breakfast...
Anything I've missed?
Everyone on RUclips is a professional motorcycle rider who has never once made a mistake, and knows more about it than anybody else, haha!
He needed to change his headlight fluid. It'll make you crash every time!
+Gene Lawless HAHA...I LIKE THAT
The truth is he was low on blinker fluid.?
+Gene Lawless Ask Mickey Doohan about rider position. He will show you everything that is wrong about body position and somehow... make it look amazing while winning MotoGP
+Gene Lawless Orrrrr. We're trying to analyze so we can learn from it....
That's one helluva good drone operation
Duuude what the heck is it about that turn? I mean these guys were on point and still crashed
+Night Rider Second rider wasn't on point. He braked hard in the turn, causing his bike to suddenly straighten up. He reacted by jerking the handlebars, ultimately leading to the crash. Ideal reaction in that case would've been to brake a tiny bit and countersteer to lean as much as possible. Not saying I would've done any better, but #3 did exactly that and it saved him.
They probably dropped rpms after breaking and lost traction
Braking*
They weren't looking where they wanted to go but looked at the guard rail instead.... Squids
Nope, I worked it out... something on Rider #1's bike was hanging down from the left hand side, I suspect his kick stand somehow got knocked 'partially' down, which means that it didn't hit the kill switch (or actually, maybe he removed his kick-stand kill switch). Could also be something stuck in his frame, like a branch or some shit
Thanks for the video, I learned to keep a good distance from this crash.
