    Rider on a 2017 Kawasaki 636 loses rear on the Mulholland Snake in los Angeles , CA He didn't save it but was fine. He was wearing a full leather suite and was practically on the ground when he fell. Young rider, the 636 was his first bike. Not sure how long he'd been riding but only on the Snake about a month and a half. He said his back tire pressure was 34 lbs.
    Thanks for Watching

    Bikes can always be fixed and parts replaced. Medical bills in hospital also are far more expensive than bruised scratched up leathers from a low/high side crash

    It's pretty obvious what happened here. The third stone from the left of the double yellow line _glinted in the sun_ just as the rear tyre passed over it, causing micro-vulcanisation to take place, (due to the highly localised Ultra Violet energy) thus reducing the friction-coefficient enough to alter the front-rear balance dynamics. Basic lesson from this is to only negotiate The Snake when the UV-factor is obscured by at least seven-tenths cloud.

    The J" curve at the top of The Snake is a declining radius. If you've never ridden through it, it comes up real fast and might bite you---as it did this guy. Also, there's a lot of sand on that part of the curve because it's area where vehicles often go onto the shoulder, kicking crap all over the road.

    I feal bad for the poor buggers in these vids but i also find these vids interesting to watch and learn from the mistakes made. I think this demonstrates how important proper body position is. If it were correct then the bike wouldn't of been leaning as far as it was and there wouldn't of been anything touching down on the left hand side. It was that touching down that ultimately broke what little traction he had left in the rear.

      @@hellario2 the high side is not a result of you trying to stabilize or correct it. There is no time for that. The high side happens when the rear tire loses grip, the bike slides out, as we are seeing in this video, for example, and then the rear tire regains traction. That compresses the suspension, and the rebound of it, coupled with the angle of the bike, throws the rider airborne.

    my two cents.... Carrying to much lean angle. get your but off the seat more

    • @keithcurtis6671
      @keithcurtis6671 5 лет назад +2

      I think it was a combination of incorrect body position for the speed (resulting in too much lean) combined with chopping the throttle in panic. You are correct, when he first felt the peg scrape he could have leaned in more and avoided the low side.

    • @petar-boshnakov
      @petar-boshnakov 5 лет назад +1

      What's with the body position everyone is on about?

    • @keithcurtis6671
      @keithcurtis6671 5 лет назад +3

      Petar Boshnakov he was hanging his knee out, but his butt wasn't shifted to the inside of the curve nor was his upper body. The upper body is even more important as it is higher up and has a greater impact on the lean angle of the bike vs the center of gravity. His head and shoulders need to be centered over his inside wrist to move the CoG inside and thus reduce the lean angle of the bike.

    • @petar-boshnakov
      @petar-boshnakov 5 лет назад +1

      Keith Curtis that would probably keep the bike 2 degrees higher but won’t stop him lift the rear with his foot later on. Kenny Roberts won titles crossed up like ...

    • @keithcurtis6671
      @keithcurtis6671 5 лет назад +2

      Firstly, this guy is no Kenny Roberts! There are many other factors in this wreck, but body position and chopping the throttle are two. As others have mentioned his choice of tires it not a great one either. Sport Touring tires, with wet performance and longevity taking precedence in the design vs pure traction / grip was also causal. The biggest favor he could have done himself was to set a proper entry speed and trail brake to the apex vs trying to throttle through the entire turn and giving up in the middle by chopping the throttle.

      Not at all, think about people trying to make it in the car racing world and start out as privateers. Not only do they pay for their own carts/cars
      , they also need to buy expensive parts, an RV etc.That’s the first example I can think of. I’m sure there are sports that get even more expensive... Some people pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for a good competition horse or even pigeons.
