People don't dislike Goten and Trunks, it's the opposite, we're rooting for them but the writing is ruining them since it just wants them to be these two cute little useless kids.
I personally am neutral about them, but agree nonetheless.
Gotenks going completely unused in Super is a spit on the fanbase's face.

As a long time Dragon Ball fan that has been reading/ watching since the series came out, I just want to say this channel is super refreshing. I’ve been going through some of your videos and in my opinion they have been some of the better Dragon Ball content I’ve come across. Keep up the good work!
These guys had a lot of potential to be great in super but they are so behind most other characters,in Z however they are some of the strongest ever.
I liked the DBS Tournament team, but let's be real, we didn't need all of these:
1. Master Roshi
2. Krillin
3. Tien
4. Android 18
5. Android 17
Any of them could have been swapped out for the two boys, then we could have had Gotenks trying to Blitz all the other Teams with his Super Ghost Kamakaze Attack.
It would have been a great opportunity to let Universe 7 be more aggressive.

@@tonsstaryeah but that was due to making them stronger the best part other than their power is the android barriers especially since they didn't really make use of the infinite energy (in theory they should have been sent to quickly deal with any enemies weaker then them which would have wiped out most characters other than the trio characters (e.g. the love members and trio de dangers ), universe 6, the fusion robots and pride troopers which would have saved a few members of universe 7 and saved them a lot of stamina)
If you think about it, Trunks and Goten are most likely the 4th and 5th strongest fighters in the planet in the Great Saiyanman Arc.
The only people stronger than Trunks are his own father, his best friend’s big brother, and Piccolo.

On the other hand, Trunks seemed like could barely move in his base form under 150 times gravity while Vegeta was training under 300 times gravity before he could even become a super saiyan. Where does that fit in with this? Most of the instances in this video can be chalked up to Toriyama pulling his all-time favourite gag: "Haha small child shocks everyone by being strong despite being tiny." Kicking Buu away was necessary for the plot, doesn't count as a feat. And Piccolo being shocked at their power is a terrible mention even if you're right about everything else, as it's clearly meant to be his shock that they're so powerful despite being kids, NOT that he was intimidated by their power.

I agree overall I think Trunks would have won the fight because he really seemed to have greater control of his power. In there fight Goten has to transform into a Super Sayian first because Trunks is out matching him, then when they fire off ki blasts Trunks can control his away from the crowd whereas Goten can't. So Trunks does seem to be ahead of Goten.
I definitely think that Goten and Trunks were a lot more powerful than people give them credit for. Even before their training in the hyperbolic time chamber, there's evidence that Goten and Trunks as super saiyans are at least stronger than Android saga level characters. Android 18 herself was worried about how powerful they were, and she has experience defeating super saiyans. Not to mention that she was relieved when they left after they were disqualified from the main tournament, showing that 18 wasn't confident that she could beat Goten and Trunks. Plus, Piccolo being impressed by their maximum powers shows that Goten and Trunks were powerful super saiyans.
Its been stated multiple times that Saiyan Hybrids have the potential to be more stronger. I think the misconception comes from the fact that we never really see Goten or (Present) Trunks fight as much throughout the series compared to the rest of the gang.
The context of the hybrids having a higher potential statement is in comparison to the non Saiyan species.
It's just like when they say Goku's mother is a peaceful sayian. You take the worst dictators in human history combined. Sayian's are calling them soft.
@@thefreestofspeech6951false it's explained that Saiyans have power ups based on emotions which they lack as a race they aren't in touch with their feelings they have to have fits of rage to unlock these emotions... example Vegeta struggling to show love to his family even though we know he loves them...Goku basically forgetting he is a father or husband at times even though he loves his family...hybrids on the other hand being half human have full range of emotions that allows them to unlock Saiyan potential much faster... Saiyans have to fight and train tirelessly to achieve power ups while hybrids unlock these powers up effortlessly...this is why Gohan...gotten and trunks are the youngest super Saiyans that ever existed

Right now you're doing what I'm talking about when I say context.
You are judging a different species by human standards. This is the major reason why Goku gets the bad father at he's not a bad father he's a Saiyan father. And when it comes to the hybrids Gohan had to work his ass off to get ssj. The other two didn't have to work that hard because their fathers passed down that mutation to them. Then later on Gohan gets his power unlocked. In truth the hybrid gets power ups because of the plot. Gohan I don't like the other two you can give him credit by saying he did have the great ape form. So that's where all that extra power came from.
The thing about that is you never see pure saiyans given access to their full power. Unless it's Broly.
@@thefreestofspeech6951 it's not plot is cannon..hybrids have more potential and don't have to train as hard a full blood Saiyan it's clearly explained to the sayings of universe 6 by Goku that to turn super Saiyans they have to unlock their emotions which also explains why Goku is always a step ahead of Vegeta being raised by humans and having a wider range of emotions and why Vegeta closed the gap with Goku only after having a family and seeing the the other z fighters as actual friends...you are arguing against both logic. It's also Canon that a hybrid saying cannot past grade 5. It is also Canon there when Goku explain to go hard how to become a Super Saiyan. He said it comes from a need of the power not from a warrant it.
Even you look at Goku and Vegeta's First Transformation it still came from a need. Goku loses his best friend, a new Ally being severely injured, and his child about to die. I need plus anger. The anime Vegeta about to die from a meteor in space. Was he angry that he wasn't a Super Saiyan yet, yes also did he need to survive yes. Even Gohan's transformation he told his dad to put some effort into it. To escape the situation he created for himself he needed that power. Even taken the ritual Pan before she was born had access to Super Saiyan power. No rage necessary but a need was present.
You actually look at Goten, Trunks Pan and Bra. They seem to be more like Frieza they're born powerful because their parent is powerful.
I'll conclude with this. Who's the most powerful pureblood human Dragon Ball? I get what you're saying about hybrid but that was before Goku came back with grade 6.
All they needed was one full year in the hyperbolic time chamber and they would’ve beaten Super Buu almost effortlessly. As soon as they learned how to fuse, they should’ve went straight into the hyperbolic time chamber and put in work. They would undoubtedly be the strongest by the end of the series. Not even ultimate Gohan would be on their level.
Couldn't Super Buu just train to make himself stronger as well and surpass their power?

Goten after seeing his mom die right in front of him and (to his knowledge) having no family left had every reason to turn SSJ2 but didn’t cause of plot
Great video as always. I am so impressed with how many ideas you come with about a 30 year old series, great job!
I still remember Super Buu swatting Trunks in the face when they were about to fuse. It was obvious it really hurt Trunks, however it did not knock him out (regular Majin Buu who was weaker than Super Buu hit Gohan, and was knocked out for quite some time.)
I also remember how ready to fight Goten was when Super Buu turned Chi Chi into an egg, and stepped on her. He was fearless whereas Gohan around the same age was very fearful when push came to shove.
These 2 are really slept on as characters.
@ProfessorVince, Super Buu wasn't trying when he hit Trunks it was literally a tap lol. Fat Buu sledgehammered Gohan with a punch and he hit the ground pretty hard, and Fat Buus power still wasnt split, theres no comparison needed Gohan got hit much harder.

The Android 18 fight was a benchmark for them, before the ROSAT. They knew how strong she was and they held back. Despite holding back, A18 was scared of their destructive power from just a kiai.
Goten before training for the 25th Budokai admits he isn't quite as strong as Gohan SSJ1, so when he trains he should have closed that SSJ1 gap.
Kid Trunks also goes from struggling with 150-fold gravity in Base form to now being able to do push-ups in Base form after landing a punch and a vastly more improved Super Vegeta.
They are easily anywhere between A18 and Boo Saga Super Vegeta, much closer to the improved Super Vegeta like a Cell Jr from the Cell Games. In fact, they fight all 7 Cell Jr's at the same time, who were stated to be exactly as strong as they were in the Cell Games. Toriyama approved of that special ToP panel.
The BASE Fusion form multiplier should be something like: adding both max powers, and then multiplying up to 4 times.
With them adding their powers first, it's like one of them going SSJ2 (2x SSJ1). So that alone would make them around Gohan/Goku/Vegeta SSJ2 from that saga, before the other Fusion multiplier. Now given the fact that Fat Boo and SSJ3 Goku are roughly equal, that means that since Gotenks adding their individual SSJ1 powers (or 2x) equaling Goku/Majin Vegeta SSJ2, and their initial Base form is weaker than Fat Boo means they can't be 4x their combined max powers, since they lost to Fat Boo, who was roughly 4x stronger than Goku & Majin Vegeta SSJ2.
The improved Gotenks post-ROSAT is now as strong as Fat Boo in their Base, according to Trunks. So when Gotenks goes SSJ3 to surpass Super Boo, that makes them 400x stronger than Fat Boo/Goku SSJ3, and Super Boo a bit less than that.
Well at least they are better written then Caulifla and Kale

I had high hopes for goten and kid trunks. Showing early on just how much potential they had for their age. Then dragon ball super came along and they were demoted to just the kids well into their teen years. It was frustrating to see that

The thing that's crazy is trunks and goten are true prodigy. They should have been treated as such. Naturally strong to a level we haven't seen and just a bit of training could make them top tier power characters

Trunks and Goten's power are limited by other factors not related to them. Trunks is limited by Vegeta, because Vegeta doesn't like to train him, he rather spend time getting himself stronger. Goten is limited by Chi Chi, as shown in Dragon Ball Super, Goku was willing to train Goten (even willing to take Goten to go train with Whis), but Chi Chi wants him to be Gohan 2.0 and focus on school. That is Why Pan will out power them, because Gohan and Videl allows Pan to train with her two grandpa, Hecules and Goku.

Why did the saiyans not make Super Saiyan their base after the Cell Games like Goku said they should? Even if you say that it was Goku's idea and he died, everyone saw how beneficial it would be.

Goten is the homie. He wanted to go Ssj3 right off the bad.
Had a lot of expectation them during their debut, in the early days I remember Gotenks being just as marketable as Goku just bc he was a ssj3, was on the USA cover art for budakai 2. When he, they were heralded as one of the plausible warriors to besting Buu alongside Gohan. I took them super sereously. We fought over who got to play as them.
The continuation of Z did them much harm, especially Trunks bc we had a glimpse of my favorite character future Trunks. But I understand narratively, and am sort of glad Future Trunks is his own unique character.

4:10 I have to keep telling people that Goten and Trunks _don't remember_ when they can turn Super Saiyans, their earliest memory is that they can always do it, hence no origin, even with manga proof.

Even if Toriyama forgot (The original Broly movie had this) is that a myth of the old Super Saiyan legend, a true Super Saiyan can turn into one as if it was natural, second nature, from as early as a baby. It's to emphasize it's not so much a form, they *ARE* the form.
This is an implied shocker of the truth of what kind of prodigies Goten and Trunks are.
It's moments like this I want Trunks and Goten to fuse more often! Can you imagine how ridiculously powerful they'd be furthering their training and merging together?! I'm just so glad that Superhero finally made them teens and (story wise) are getting away for them being children (I'm looking at you DB Super BROLY movie!!) . Because they're ready powerhouses as kids, let their mature selves continue this traight!
Man i think i just now realized that the reason goku and gohan were ao far ahead of vegeta and trunks is that they were getting zenkai boosts when fighting eachother. Do you think vegeta and trunks got zenkai boosts from training by themselves?
I used to think they were around the level of the Androids. But after reading the manga I think they're probably Cell jr level but definitley weaker than the MSSJs in the cell games.
Why didn't Gohan, Vegeta and the other Z-fighters not sense when Goten and Trunks went SSJ all those times they fought?

Keep in mind this Gohan wasnt training at all.. so Gohan being a super saiyan and being suprised by Gotens speed doesn't mean all that much, Gohans eyes, reaction time and his instincts to react to something wouldn't be as sharp as it once was, it wouldve made Goten appear faster than he actually is to Gohan. I think Goku overated Goten and Trunks strength, besides the power they lack experience and they're inferior fighters to their fathers skill wise, thats why they became useless in Super, so when people say SS3 Gotenks is stronger than Goku i just don't see it..Hes been inferior to both Goku and Vegeta for a long time and they had a very short window of showing anything spectacular.
I have gotta give it to you, despite your disliking of Super you apply your logic the same regardless, countless times i have seen people complain about U6 saiyans but make excuses with Goten and Trunks and be fine with whatever argument they have to justify these but then proceed to twist their logic and arguments on how this doesnt apply to U6 saiyans because " reasons" , but you resumed this simple and nicely; tailess mutants are the future of saiyans and it would make sense they can access SSJ forms more easily since their bodies have evolved past the outdated and rather vulnerable( tail) Oozaru transformation , this not only forces them to get stronger base forms as they no longer can rely on a full moon to save their bacon.
I think, and this is not explained anywhere but nevertheless, there is a cultural aspect about Goku, Vegeta / Gohan / Goten and Trunks's transformations. Much like it is technology for us nowadays.
Goku and moreover Vegeta grew up believing "Super Saiyan" was a myth, they broke through their limits and got to that stage through training and their experiences, but for all they know, it was something new, unexplored.
Gohan grew up watching his father and Vegeta (and future Trunks) being able to transform into SSJ, so for him it was something that existed and could be achievable, but maybe it was for people that was way older and above his level. And by the time he got to SSJ2, again, nobody thought possible there was a level "beyond ssj".
By the time Goten and Trunks are kids, this has changed. For them SSJ is not a myth, and they even must know that there is a level beyond SSJ, and that Gohan was able to transform even as a kid. So for them, SSJ is a very common thing. So it is no wonder that when they transform they do it so casually, and the mention it so casually as well, like it was an everyday thing.
This is a straight comparisson to how technology is taking place in our society. Our parents/grandparents have a hard time adapting to the new technology bc for them it is something they could never imagine that could exist. We in the mid 30s were able to adapt fine to the technology because we grew up with it. But our kids, or the new generation rather, they master it in no time, because for them it is as natural as water or air, they don't know a world without this level of technology and so for them is a 2nd nature. That is why we can see babies that know how to work a cellphone even though they cannot talk, but their grandparents can't.
Also also, Goten and Trunks grew up together, whereas Vegeta and Goku did not and Gohan was a single child for most of the adventures we see in DBZ. So there is another element there of "kind of brotherly rivalry" between Goten and Trunks that allows them to improve because they have a rival to clash against. Notice Vegeta also mentions this about Goku several times that it is because of him that Vegeta is able to also raise higher.
So much happens in the Buu saga, that it’s hard to work out characters true power. I see your point about them being stronger than most think though

I fucking love goten and trunks. I wish z had more done with them. I always related to them watching the buu saga when I was a kid. Seeing the way they were portrayed in super was a big middle finger because goten and trunks could’ve been like main characters. They were shafted the way characters like tien and piccolo were.
When Android 17 made that wish Future Trunks timeline should have got wished back right. I wonder if they will do something with that in the future.

Goten and trunks are maybe a little bit more than Goku when he returned to Earth. The two are weaker than Android 18. The shock come from people expecting them to only be so powerful. 18 wasn't sweating when they became super saiyans she ended the conflict before it got out of hand

Goten & Trunks are very strong. What they lack at this point is technique. More specifically the discipline to fight efficiently, and not waste ki.
Ok, but your arguement about "how strong is dabura" and "how strong is kaioshin" are based on how strong gohan is. but gohan had a hard time with BASE GOTEN.

The only problem is when you add in other sources such as Yo Son Goku and his Friends Return, their base forms were getting matched by characters supposedly first form Frieza level, and goku himself thought a Frieza level opponent is "perfect for the kids." Also Trunks struggling with 150x gravity is actually really bad. Goku with a power level of 90,000 already mastered 100x gravity and Vegeta started training in 300x gravity when he was at best around base Goku during the Frieza fight. Super doesn't help either with having Goten and Trunks have to use a kamehameha or go ssj just to fight a big snake...
So I do think their is evidence on both sides. It really just depends how serious you actually think ssj Gohan and Vegeta were when fighting Goten and Trunks.
That fact with tails is a bit sad. I would like to see in the future of the series how the sayan tails will become useful

I really hope goten gets his gohan moment. By this I mean gohan had his several moments where he was a total badass and the most powerful guy. Most noticeably the cell saga but Audi against buu. 😊

Ironic that Gotenks's name is first in fusion and when people tall them about both of them together and yet Trunks is the one that gets the most attention from the writers.
That's because they made Gotenks have a very dominant Trunks voice.
Goten and Trunks served as a shock factor early on but became irrelevant fast same way with Shin, by the end of the Buu saga they were just crazy kids not the power houses we were led to believe.
Time for “how strong was Gohan during RoF”
Fusion power has already been confirmed to be A x B, so it's multiplying the power of trunks and goten to equal gotenks

In the series its stated that it's the characters strongest forms combined and multiplied by several tens of times
For example BASE Vegito in the Buu arc is SSJ3 Goku+SSJ2 Vegeta and multiplied by like 20-100 times
Same applies for Gogeta but the multiplier is significantly smaller according to the original manga.
That's why in Super Base fusions are stronger than Blue forms

I had always assumed they had their tails cut off for obvious reasons.

I would agree Toriyama forgot. But an in universe reason may be that by the time they were conceived Goku was already a Super Sayian and Vegeta wasn't to far off from becoming a Super Sayian as well so it's possible that feed into the natural potential the two would have, and given they had a naturally higher power from their fathers, plus their abilities, it's possible on some crazy evolutionary level there was no need for them to be born with tails as they were naturally stronger than almost any sayian before them.
I don't think Gohan dodged as fast as he could. He just wasn't prepared for that lol

I've always said that a comedy series about Goten and Trunks going back in time by accident would be so entertaining! They can destroy everyone from early Dragon Ball to Semi Perfect Cell without fusion.
It would be because I really enjoyed them taking apart the weaker Z villains and tyrants in DBZ Fusion Reborn.
So fantastic point I remembered as TFS inspired me to give the Buu saga a full rewatch.
The Androids power level cannot increase (GTFO DBS) so considering in the fight with 18 they both had her on edge and were just slightly under even before they turned SSJ.
That would mean if let’s say 18 at the MINIMUM is 2x 100 Frieza. That means Goten and Trunks in their BASE are about Namek SSJ Goku and as Super Saiyans- probably somewhere around Super Perfect Cell. (Based on how you wanna estimate Cell)
Nothing in the manga canon says tye cyborgs can't increase their power through training. They are humans altered on a cellular level. If Tenshinhan can get stronger so can 17, and never get tired doing so.
Base saiyans in buu saga were weaker than 100% final form frieza
Honestly the Buu saga should have been about them, with Gohan and Piccolo behind them along the way because you can see it being set up with Vegeta asking who is stronger between them, and Trunks said he was, then they fight in the tournament. They should have gotten the focus like Gohan did as a kid, or at least Super should have done that, but the series doesnt care about them. They're also nothing but just Gotenks.
Some part of me what would have happened if the kids fought fat buu. Like would they along with Majin Vageta be able to do real damage or even beat them? Honestly there was so much potential now that I look at it😮

I'd place Trunks and Goten maybe around the Vegeta and Trunks in the Cell Games before the room of spirit and time. As crazy as that sounds....
There is a line where Krillin said to Piccolo when he, Goten and Trunks where hiding after dabura was killed. Piccolo saw Kaioshin there and Krillin said "Not even you could stand a chance against that guy".
He also had seen Goten and Trunks as Super Saiyans BEFORE in the tournament so he's not oblivious to their capabilities. Plus he can sense dormant power rather well (Future Trunks and Cell for example).
So for him to say something like that to me does imply that Piccolo is still stronger than those 2 but again not by leagues and leagues.
Plus Piccolo was the dominant fusion person when they de-fused inside Buu which may imply that Piccolo is stronger than them. Again though this is a Piccolo in the Buu Saga who, while he didn't get massively stronger still managed to get stronger. Enough to overtake Trunks and Vegeta in the Cell Games and probably the Cell Juniors but still being behind Goku (Cell Games).
So yeah pre rosat they are on par with Vegeta and Trunks but Post Rosat they surpass them but not Buu Saga Piccolo or Kaioshin or Cell Games Goku Super Saiyan.

I know it was his fighting instincts kicking in but it always makes me laugh when trunks hits him and vegeta bitch slaps him across the room. I don't think he meant to he just moved on instinct.

I would say both Goten and Trunks, are way more powerful when they are introduced than Kakarrot who fought against Freeza on Namek. These are not characters who touched my heart, I can't deny their power and overall good personality but there is no chemistry there with them. But I don't hate them or anything I simply don't care about them enough, I am totally fine with the writing shitting on them. Keep in mind they are less than 10 years old when we first see them, so it make sense why Gotenks took bad decision not to finish the job quickly with Super Boo. I do however love Future Trunks a lot, my favorite Saiyan-Human hybrid.
I would like to see some confirmation that Goten and Trunks do or do not have tail scars. I do think it’s possible for Trunks and Goten to surpass Gohan, but I think it will be down to nurture (training, motivation, environmental factors) rather than their genetics, or possibly even their S-cells.
Akira Toriyama apparently said that tails are a recessive trait of hybrid Saiyans to explain why they don't have them, but Gohan did.
Answer: Gotenks can go to Super Saiyan 3 because his body has more stamina / life force, which Goku stated was needed for the Form, when he explained that he can only use it because he has a Spirit Body.
Head Canon: Vegeta never attained this form, even after becoming a God, because he viewed it as an inefficient form, just like Trunk's Broly Form. The amount of stamina you waste going into the form, means that you wouldn't be able to fight for long.

The Form is powerful but it has its restrictions and weaknesses.

Goku fights for sport, Vegeta fights for pride, Gohan fights for survival, and Goten and Trunks fight for fun. This is how these characters attain their strength in their own unique ways, and I hope when Dragon Ball Super's manga continues after Super Hero that they continue to further flesh out Goten and Trunks as individuals based on these terms. As a kid Gotenks was probably my favorite character because of his fun unique attacks. Alongside the saiyans, you have: Piccolo fights for self-reflection, Krillin fights for self-confidence, Tien fights for self-discipline, Yamcha fights as a side hobby, and Android 18 fights by design. Would be cool if their unique dispositions could all bring something to the table in a serious fight again. Even Master Roshi had his moments in the movies. Tournament of Power was a great ensemble cast showpiece, I hope they do a little more of that with giving all the other great characters their moments. Like in Toy Story, even Rex has his badass useful moments.

Well in real life your genetic makeup isn't fixed and mutates over time. Your kids inherit your current genetics at the time of conception. It's logical to assume saiyans pass along their current s cell count to their kids.
A guy named Lamarck thought the genetics of Earth creatures work that way… which they don’t. Unless Saiyan males can change their core genetics, the offspring couldn’t have different genetics even if they were conceived after three story arcs’ worth of training. But maybe exo-biology is silly; Cell is Lamarckian AF.
When it comes to fusion, my headcanon always thought that the fused person, when using the fusion dance method, had the combined power level of the two people at the point of a successful fusion times a multiplier. This was the reason why it's inferior to the potara earrings, which it combines the power level of both people's max power. One piece of evidence supporting this would be how the fusion dance works. The person with the higher power level must power down to match the weaker one.
Any thoughts on this?

Headcanon: Any two individuals can use Potara earrings regardless of compatibility. Being more compatible, however, increases stability and time duration. Also any fusion involving a Kai is infinitely stable. Metamoran fusion is different. If you’re incompatible, you won’t fuse, not even a blooper fusion. But the more compatible you are, the stronger the multiplier. So, two compatible fighters could be stronger with Metamoran fusion or last longer with Potara fusion.
Also, we need more varieties of blooper fusions, if they’re going to keep screwing us over. Like, one that looks like it worked until you zoom out and it turns out you got a tiny guy. Or someone tried to complain how hairy they are until Goten says, “you’re not as hairy as this one time we botched a fusion.” And there’s a thought balloon of a black and purple (or blue) blob of hair.

I want to see a double fusion. After becoming Gogeta and Gotenks from the Metamoran fusion, those two use the Potara earrings to fuse, becoming Gogetenks. 😁

The mass posibility is nonsense because Piccolo is also bigger than Gotenks haha. The reason behind Super Buu's appereance can't be anything else but power.
And that was after the kids trained a couple weeks in the Time Chamber, I do think I've been underestimating them but I'm not convinced that they are as powerful as you suggest. The kids could have surprised their tutors just by being on a similar level to Goku on Namek, as Gohan and Vegeta would have been expecting a power equivalent to somewhere around the thousands in such peaceful times.
They caught their tutors off guard which made it look closer than it actually was imo. I'm still not that convinced that they were stronger than 18 before getting into the Time Chamber.

I would think they're so strong because Goku and Vegeta were Super Saiyans when they conceived them. Technically it's not confirmed whether or not Vegeta had achieved ssj before or after he fucked Bulma but in my head cannon he already had.

The most recent DBS manga chapter just further shows this potential they have considering they are able to confuse and do some damage to Cell Max and even impress Gammas 1 & 2.
