The Mandela effect isn't so much about change, but rather why do we remember things differently and moreso why do so many people remember the exact same incorrect thing. For me, being a history buff, the Mandela effect that got me was the dazzle camouflage ships of ww2 and the Black Tom explosion, which germany attacked US soil in a deliberate terrorist attack sparking our enterance in ww1. I learned it was the sinking of the luisitana I never heard of that black tom shit

Recently have you spoke to someone, then yiu both started telling each other you both said something different??? It's happening on every scale. But we only collectively notice iconic popular things. But inface, even a small conversation with q person can also change.

@@rorkirbabtista9429 No, it's a trick of the mind; in fact there's a "Mandela Effect" that your own memories show is just a trick of the mind; provided you had the original 8-bit Nintendo. You don't actually have to push the cartridge down in order to play the games, even though the manual says.
Some people have gotten convinced they couldn't start the machine properly with it up, but that just never was the case, we just dutifully pushed the cartridge down until it became habit and then we did it automatically.
Your own memories that prove you never had to push the cartridge down, is like everyone who had a NES, when the game didn't start, you blew in the cartridge, and when it worked afterward assumed that is what did it, and kept doing it. You first tried resetting the machine, that didn't, work, then turn it off and on, that didn't work, then you did what you thought was reseated the cartridge; bring it up and then down again, and of course that didn't work, and so you blew on it. Only now, as you slide the cartridge back in, do you reseat the cartridge, and it's this reseating that made it work. So your memories of blowing in the cartridge, prove you didn't actually need to push the cartridge down, it's just a pointless sentence in the manual.

  • @Chronoflation

I don't think the majority of these are Mandela effects at all. Most just seem like anime produced misunderstandings. Aren't Mandela Effects when masses of people remember something that didn't actually happen, like "We Are The Champions" having the line "of the world" in it? I mean, I think some one off version may have had that line, but it wasn't in the original or most iterations thereafter. I can still remember how that one sounded but I know he didn't actually sing it. It'd be like if everyone remembered Vegeta saying "Over 9000", but that line was never actually said, or if it came from Bulma reading her radar when Goku first started powering up with the Kaio Ken and somehow people attributed that memory to Vegeta en masse. That's just an example. So yeah, I think mass misunderstandings and mass false memories are different things and Mandela is the latter

    • @WhiteManOnCampus
      @WhiteManOnCampus 9 месяцев назад +8

Unrelated to the video, but "of the world" was in the original song. It came off an album called "News of the World" and each chorus ended with "of the world." It was only later iterations that began to remove the final "of the world" for no easily-explained reason, but it's still in the choruses before the song's end.
The Mandela Effect is typically when people misremember something as a group, due either to media saturation or brand knockoffs (like store brands ripping off the Fruit of the Loom logo and adding a cornucopia, thereby creating the association in our minds), most notably with the repeated insistence that Nelson Mandela was going to die in prison or repeated reports that he had died, later recanted for being false.

    • @CaptainPrincess
      @CaptainPrincess 9 месяцев назад +3

I mean the easiest way to describe the mandela effect is the event of its namesake, which is people thinking Nelson Mandela died in prison during apartheid when he infact lived well into I think the early 2010's

However, it was different from the Mandela Effect for the simple reason we are not remembering incorrectly but only remembering the version of the content that was available to that specific individual at that particular time. So, in general, people can only remember what they know, and those individuals were led down different paths by different content creators who used the same content with company-approved dialog and rearranged images to support the dialog.

"Fans make up things and use their headcanon as fact". Oh my God YES! I swear as a DB, One Piece, Naruto, Yugioh and Bleach fan this is the most annoying thing ever. People act like the author can't make their characters say blind statements and be wrong. "Goku said it so it must be true" type of stuff. Or the worst part when they interpret something differently and take their agenda for their favorite characters to the extreme. Dub changes and the anime don't help either 😅. These days when I read a new series I watch the anime later to spot the differences so these misconceptions don't happen.

Regardlesa of whether or not Trunks being a super saiyan at the time that he was in the manga is consistent with the Goten and Trunks stuff, its still feels way more earned and dramatic in the anime special. Super saiyan loses what makes it special with each subsequent person achieving it with less motivation, then you get to Trunks and Goten and its quite literally a joke. So yeah, Trunk the Specials blows Toryiama's interpretation out of the water

exactly, to me it doesn't make sense for Gohan to willingly sacrifice himself if he knew Trunks could go super saiyan, considering training was obviously still making Trunks significantly stronger, why would Gohan purposefully get himself killed to leave his weaker super saiyan friend to now possibly get ganged up on when they could have had a legit 2v2 fight soon? Using the death as what finally sends Trunks over the edge makes so much more sense!

A lot of these are just fans doing what they do best and misinterpreting the source material instead of misremembering details (like the black tip Pikachu-tail or the Berenstein Bears fiascoes). Something more akin to what the Mandela affect would be fans all of a sudden insisting Gohan briefly wore a mohawk for a hairstyle at any point of the story or something whack like that. The Mandela affect isn't really a falsifiable thing, the people bring it up in any serious capacity know full well of the discrepancy between what they remember and what's plainly factual. It's nothing like how Dragon Ball fans passing around misconceptions because they don't know better.

One thing that springs to my mind that a lot of people repeated back in the day when discussing Z-Broly is that Goku only managed to defeat him because he aimed at the scar from when he was stabbed as an infant. Not only does Broly have no such scar anywhere on him, the spot punched ( his abdomen ) isn't even where he was stabbed in the first place; the flashback has the wound - admittedly very ambiguously due to the shadowy framing - situated somewhere closer to his upper torso, most likely on the side of his heart. Here I guess the confusion comes from the fact that in Broly: The Second Coming he now has a scar following his battle with Goku and that retroactively became tangled with the whole false memory. I reckon there was also an inkling of a need for the fans to be able to justify his loss even when almost all past and future movie villains shared a similar end of either being bested by an asspull or Spirit Bomb in some shape or form.

A effect you didn't bring up which I not only remember but seeing others mention it was Gohan's overall power during the fight with Freiza and just how strong Gohan is. Because after Krillin is gored by Freiza Gohan goes nuts and attacks Freiza knocking him to the ground then blasting him. The next is when he helps Piccolo against Freiza as Freiza seems to struggle against the beam and as a result people thought Gohan was far stronger than he really was. The reality is yes Gohan gets a power boost when he's angry but given where he was before the fights with Freiza start not a chance he ever stood a chance because in each chance is not only many times stronger but seems to either not pay attention and gets careless or is just killing time while he waits for a pick up.

Something that could potentially be an actual mandela effect in DBZ (the anime) if other people remember the same thing, is I remember there being a scene during the Buu Saga in which Goku explains exactly how Potara power scaling works when considering his options after Gohan gets absorbed by Buu. His explanation was that if the difference in power between two individuals is too great, the resulting fusion could turn out weaker than just the stronger of the two alone, but when the two are close to the same power level their powers get multiplied together into an ultimate warrior.
I've searched for this scene as hard as I could and not been able to find it anywhere. It seems as though it doesn't exist. Instead, there's simply a scene in which Goku briefly considers fusing with Hercule but isn't a fan of the idea, only for Vegeta to get revived and Goku senses his energy, choosing him as the better option.

    - People remember Goku's statement abotu Dabura being on par with Cell, but always forget the part where Goku corrects his own estimate and says Dabura is stronger. By thinking Dabura is on Cell's level, they think Gohan lost way more power than he did by not being able to take out Dabura.
    - Too many people think Gohan was cocky against Suer Buu, and just toying around with him. Dragging it out. When in fact the fight lasted less than a second, Gohan landed 6 solid hits on Super Buu, then Buu blew himself up and ran away. People also, in turn, think that Gohan's "messing around" is what led to not only Piccolo, Goten, and Trunks getting absorbed, but also Gohan himself. When it was in fact Goku's distraction and interferance that got Gohan absorbed, while Goten and Trunks' cockiness got themselves and Piccolo absorbed.
    - Goku won against Vegeta. Nope. Vegeta creamed Goku. Goku was paralyzed and completely out of te fight. Gohan and Krillin had to step in to save him, otherwise he would've died. Gohan was the one to finally defeat Vegeta, with some help from Krillin, Yajirobe, and even Vegeta himself.
    - Cell Saga Gohan being a teenager, and Buu saga Gohan being an adult. I think this one comes from the naming convensions in the games. Gohan was around 10 years old at the Cell games. And around 17 in the Buu saga. So Buu saga Gohan is the teenager, while Cell Games Gohan was still a kid. Gohan isn't an adult until End of Z/Super/GT.
    - Vegeta is a genuis fighter. This one is funny because there's too many Vegeta fanboys out there defending him (and no doubt most of the relies I'll get to this comment will be all about this one point). Vegeta is actually an idiot. When it comes to fighting he relies solely on being able to overpower his opponents. He will avoid fights if someone is equal to or stronger than him (meanwhile Goku will take on stronger opponents and win through strategy and skills). However, Vegeta's ego will get in the way and he'll mistakenly think he can take someone he can't. Only for him to faulter and give up after the slightest pushback. If he can't win easily he either resigns himself to defeat or will try to bluff his way out of the fight.

As far as the cell goku fight the main reason people think goku was holding back is because we have seen how goku behaves and how he fights when he is not holding back. During the cell fight his entire demeanor is different. He is much more calm than a goku who is not holding back, goku will often become angry or anxious which forces him to think outside the box, try new or unique moves, and really push himself. He follows through with continuous attacks, he is TRYING to win. During the cell fight his moves are more so emphasizing tge ART in martial arts and not as much the combat. Long stretches of time with string out in between attacks, he's much more calm and only really tries one unique move set before he just quits which was the Kamehameha coupled with instant transmission. He never really allowed himself to be put in a position to get creative, he was never really angry or anxious which is a huge departure from the goku we all know when he's in a battle to win it.(at least battles in which he is unsure if he can win) This is why people (myself included) think he was holding back, even if it was just a little. Or in the very least he was holding back in the sense that he wasn't really in it to win it.

That'd be correct. His heart wasn't in it. The cell saga failed to have real drama that didn't seem premeditated. Goku turning over the fight to Gohan is honestly out of character.

Not a lot of this is Mandela effect. This is differences between anime and manga or just misconceptions. This is mostly due to the fact that Dragonball can’t read.
Mandela effect would be more like when people say “Krillin was stronger than Goku when they were kids.” This is evidenced by the scene when Krillin and Goku powered up as children under Roshi. However, in reality, this flashback occurs in the Buu saga when Goku is teaching Trunks and Goten the Fusion dance. This is Krillin imagining what it would have been like if he and Goku powered up at the same time. It never actually occurred.
Another Mandela effect would be that Goku defeated Vegeta the first time they fought.

I think with Cell it isn't what's said cause Goku says something similar in the anime, I think it was "I was giving Cell all I got" or something to that extent. The anime also shows everybody (minus Goku) being shocked at SSJ1 Gohan's power when he powers up.
I think where the Goku being stronger than Goku thought comes from is the fight itself and people not understanding Gohan's power. After all we see Goku having this intense, back and forth, even looking fight with Cell. Then when Gohan gets in there, Cell just whoops his ass. I think this is why fans think "Well that must mean Goku > Gohan" while not understanding the whole point of that wasn't that Gohan wasn't stronger as SSJ1 then Goku (he was), but that Gohan didn't WANT to fight, he didn't want to risk what would happen if he let his power truly run wild.
Although if I remember right (correct me if I'm wrong) the anime does screw up the power scaling when Goku goes 50% at Korin's doesn't it, implying Goku was stronger? But everything at the Cell games I'm pretty sure the anime puts over the same message the manga did about Gohan being stronger.
It has been a while since I watched the entire show though, so maybe I am Mandela Effected right now. lol

There is a big case of the Mandela Effect regarding the Brazilian DBZ fandom. It was widely believed that an important episode of the Buu Saga had it's transmission on Rede Globo, the most popular brazilian TV channel and the place most brazilian first saw the anime, interrupted in 9-11 by the live coverage of the attacks happening in New York. This believe used to be almost universal on the brazilian fandom and I've even seen american Lost Media channels on RUclips mention the recording as Lost Media.
This believe was so common that Rede Globo checked their archives and has since openly stated, with documents proving it, that this never happened and in fact DBZ was not broadcast at all during that day because the live coverage of the tragedy had already started by time it would normally air.
Lots of people still believe this happened, even my own brother believed it until I showed him Rede Globo's article disproving it.

Post-grad psych student here. These aren't Mandela effects. The Mandela effect is when a large number of the population misremember an event as being true/different than what actually occured.
The crux of the Mandela effect is that human memory is not reliable and over time memories can be distorted, fade, or just become less accurate.
However, in these instances, if people are recalling what happened in the anime and you are comparing that to the source material and saying that people are misremembering based off of anime vs manga, then you are comparing different variables. That is not the mandela effect.
Again, the mandela effect needs to affect a large population who all recall facts differently than what actually happened. This video is just misleading tbh and once again people try to use psychology terminology/phenomenon's they don't understand or have done a brief wikipedia search on it.

Yeah, I'm PERSONALLY familiar with that one as I got into an argument about it with someone on another vid and I brought up that they were trying to link Goku with Superman really hard back in the day and with the very first DBZ dub. Dude was saying that I made that shit up and wouldn't believe me when I brought up the OG dub and the fact it's in the trivia section on the Dragon Ball Wiki....even when other people jumped in and confirmed what I said. Some people just can't stand to be wrong, to be clear, he was saying I made up the scientist part, he had never seen the Ocean dub so he had never heard that line.
