  • Part 3 of my Jaguar XJC John Steed Replica project.
This replica XJC project is to recreate the John Steed Broadspeed car from the New Avengers TV show set in the 1970's.
An icon for so many of us of a certain age despite only being shown on the TV series for less than 10 minutes.
In part 3 of this project, I am with the car in the fibreglass workshop of Steve at Fibresports in Essex. The front spoiler and the wheel arches are now fixed to the car.
We are trying to both be faithful to the original car but also to upgrade to be an even more more polished version.
Just a few more details to be completed in the Fibresports workshop, then it will be ready for the next phase.

I would say mechanicals first, then bodywork, as your not going off of a set blueprint here, your going off of what you think the car is, and that is going to change with time, maybe get it in primer and the bodywork done, but not the final finish, kinda like get it like the Grey beast, bond's old 33 1/2 liter bentley
and then focus on getting everything tuned up and dialed right before you really start putting on the skim coats and getting it finished, as you may run into fitment and clearance issues that require you to cut into the body and fiberglass it abit
plus maybe running some ductwork, as that first spoiler for the first broadspeed seems to have brake ducts on it, but no slots in the fenders to vent the pressure, which might be why it was changed, as that would create front end lift, and its got those in the back, like you might wanna run it through a wind tunnel just to check how the airflow is going once you've gotten it reasonably buttoned up
as the race car, actually has a hole in the back for it to vent properly
Jaguar BROADSPEED XJC V12 Racing Coupe / Jaguar V12, at 5:51
also it mentions a museum where you can go and see that very car apparently
and with the alloy's, I would look around and see what the racers are actually using, like find out what brand and company the race people use for theirs
and then see what size works best for the car before going bespoked, as you gotta treat it like a prototype
alternatively if you can find the original car, have a close look at what its got on it, and zoom in on the tires
should give you an idea of precisely what its running as it seems to have its letters and numbers sticking outward
actually just found a video of them pulling it out of the barn, its got bf goodwrench on it? cant see the codes though, they look almost like A team rims and tires really
or the turbine style we had on the dukes of hazzard, which had 14's in the front, 15's in the rear, and it could be what they did here
my head is saying 275's though, and a good thing you could do is just to find any old random tire..... wait you had the murcie on here right
see if those work, as the murcies riding on 275, 325's on 16's I believe, might be pretty close, as those are deep dish just by definition, save for the fronts, which are the same ones off of the gallardo
and they might be just the right size for this, as if you've got the murcie lying around waiting on that gearbox conversion, you could just slip one on and see how it looks

To be honest and as a life long Jaguar Cars fan and owner, if you are going to replicate a car such as the John Steed XJ, D Type, XJ13 and such like then the only way is to do the project properly. The only caveat being limited resources, in which case one must proceed. However, whilst I have no desire to enquire or be so rude, if you have the resources and you have gone this far, then you must go to the extreme to fulfil your dream. Anything less, is a broken dream, damaged car and will always show the truth.
However, the dream car, replica or not (like an XJ13 and D Types for example) will command appreciation, admiration and respect. Much like restoring an extremely rare car (Such as a Bugatti) using the best skilled panel beaters, engineers, sourcing original specifiaction materials and getting the detail correct. The value of the finished project will be subjective for such a unique car. The pride, pleasure and sense of achievment will make the broken budget seem a small detail.

If there is any advice I can think of, see if you can do a collaboration with other RUclipsrs to get your exposure up and ask the audience for advise on this, but I would contact Harry Metcalf and Jonny from the late brake show, Jonny is building a turbo Honda powered Allegro.

All is going well .I'm not sure what sort of wheels, but definitely agree, they need to be deep dished, how about original centres in new wide steel rims , in the body colour , or chromed , with hubcaps? , at least that way you'd be able to set the rim up to pretty much exactly where is best in relation to the flares. Not sure if you're going non mettalic with the green , but I recently saw a dark green , that I think is better than any version of British racing green that Iv'e seen . It's a Porche colour called Brewster green , it's on a 1967 Mustang Fastback belonging to car builder Chris Ashton in America, it's recently been featured on the RUclips channel " Autotopia la " , if you want to check it out.

I think wheels can make or break a cars look so I would speak to Image wheels about making some replicas as the right wheels will make or break the arches I would also say that you are making some really great subtle changes to the design so I would personally go for 17” or 18” this will suit the size of the arches making them not look too oversized & give you a much better tyre selection and it will fit in with todays cars
Image wheels do Jensen Interceptor wheels in 17” which are fitted to the Jensen International cars that have the Chevy LS engine, it’s the Restomod style of looking like a classic but bought subtly up to date

@@johnbriggs3916 OK, the transfers on the DVDs since the U.S. release have been older analog transfers, extending to what has been broadcast on TV (along with streams, cable, satellite, etc.) and the show is more popular outside of the U.S. because the nitwits at CBS debuted all the brand new episodes of the shows at 12:40 AM EST on Wednesday Night/Thursday Morning, so it was badly handled here (only Purdey's Dinky diecast TR7 and some paperbacks were issued here for the most part) and not enough people have seen it here to date. Before they folded, Network U.K. restored and reissued all five PROFESSIONALS CI-5 seasons, a show hardly ever shown here int he states, but its turns out the 16mm 25fps negatives were stores along with all the 35mm NEW AVENGERS negatives. LAST OF THE CYBERNAUTS...? is the first and only episode of the show to get a new scan as of four years ago. On a CYBERNAUTS-themed Blu-ray, they even further restored the already terrific set of transfer for all the 35mm filmed Peel/Rigg (black and white, then color) shows for the previous CYBERNAUT episodes. Though out of print, you might be able to pick up that disc and here is a clip to show how good they all look:
      ruclips.net/video/FJ_Jly7v2W4/видео.html
Fortunately, you can see Steed's regional Jaguar in HD for the first time in that clip too. All the negatives tot he original show were found in an underground vault at Elstree a few decades ago by Macnee and a superfan and big friend of both him and the AVENGERS community. I have more details I cannot share here, so let me know fi you want to contact me privately. The U.S. Peel Blu-ray was horrid and only of the color shows, while the U.K. sets (all three) went through Studio Canal and not Network, but Via Vision/Imprint has reissued the original series on Blu-ray with the same solid transfer and previous extras, then added new ones. I am hoping they will some how eventually reissue raw our-of-print PROFESSIONALS set as they are with THE PRISONER and THE PERSUADERS and would deliver the worldwide HD debut of THE NEW AVENGERS on Blu-ray. Shout! in the U.S. has posted the first season of the Roger Moore SAINT on line, but save a few spare episode from Network on a set of the compilation Blu-ray Discs called RETRO-ACTION, that Roger Moore show had never been on Blu-ray and neither has the insanely underrated RETURN OF THE SAINT with Ian Ogilvy, also mishandled in the U.S. by CBS (the same time slot, but on Friday night/Saturday morning at the same time) and one Ogilvy show did appear on those compilations. Wow, does it look good! Hope Imprint does all of the SAINT series and the world premiere of the Ogilvy series on Blu-ray too.

@@sportscarstory I read somewhere that Patrick Mcnee wasn't too impressed with the Jag, and on the video release of TNA, he calls it 'A very ordinary car, as all Jaguars are'. The stunt crew also found it to be a real handful to drive at speed, so it was sent back to BL after the first series wrapped, and the dreaded spoiler was fitted. The racing Broadspeed Jaguar's had the same spoiler which helped with stability in races. The car features very little on the second series...from memory, I don't think series 2 shows Mcnee actually driving it, and it's mostly just parked in the background.
