  • In this video I discuss some frequently asked questions I get, and address some comments that highlight confusion from viewers. Specifically, I discuss the reason I needed my vaginal packing to remain in for 7 days post surgery, why I had a suprapubic catheter for 10 days (to support my urethra in recovering from a TVT sling), and the difference between the two types of pelvic floor physical therapy (for hypertonic and hypotonic muscles).

    My experience as a nurse is that the packing is also infused with estrogen cream which inhances healing of the vagina.

    I had my surgery 18 days ago. Left with a Suprapubic catheter which doc explained could be in for 2-6 weeks. Just now starting to pee on my own, slow going. But my doc explained it as you have. I did NOT have a sling but rather Bulkamid injected into my urethra. I never had incontinence as an issue, just a bunch of prolapses. I opted for biologic mesh which is the only mesh my doc uses. So far so good…following restrictions which will go for 3 months. I appreciate your channel, I was able to make things easier for myself with many of your suggestions, thank you!!

      Debra, I am so glad to hear this! I have never heard of bulkamid injections, so I will have to study up on that. I am so glad you got biologic mesh. That is definitely best when mesh is the way to go! I can't imagine having the SP cath for 18 days. You are a trooper! I am so glad that you have found this content useful. I wish I'd had something like it when I had surgery. Be sure to check out the other video I posted today (2 Years Post Surgery Update)!

    I had a Mid utethral sling also for stress incontenence about 10 years ago. I had the spare sling. I don’t remember having and kind of catheter. My incontinence. Problems were no longer and still holding strong, no problems. I wanted to thank you for all your videos which have brought me so much comfort since I will seeing my urogynecologist in 2 days to discuss surgery and thanks to you, I know what questions to ask him and what to expect. Thank you so much for being so frank and opened on this subject.

    Sacrocolpopexy done 9/2022 with urethral sling, hysterectomy, fallopian tubes, and posterior wall repair…. I only had a foley cath in for 4 days. She never did a suprapubic catheter. I did well the first year until I had a bladder prolapse again which was why I had everything done the first time. I am convinced it was because the anterior wall didn’t get repaired the first go around (but who knows). I just had the anterior wall repaired a week ago and idk if I’ll have another prolapse or not. My surgeon did a good job trying to balance fixing my prolapse without causing incontinence from lifting the bladder up to high with this anterior repair. I’m only 9 days post op and trying to behave myself. I to have random spasms that are painful and pelvic floor fatigue from the first surgery over a year ago. Waiting for my 6 week check up to see how I healed this time. I am hoping this is the last surgery for me for a while. I’m tired of laying around and want to workout again. I try to be careful with lifting but it’s hard not lifting when you’re a nurse. Anyways, wish me luck! Hope everything is going well for you!

    Going to meeting with a Urogynocologist next month. Bladder has prolapsed again 23 years after the first time it did when I had my daughter (39 hours, forceps and inevitable episiotomy). Kegels and pelvic excercises served me pretty well for over two decades. But at 53, menopause is in full swing and my pelvic floor is giving out again. My OBGYN wants me to go for pelvic PT. Frankly, I don’t think PT and kegels will work for me anymore. The surgeon may disagree with me, but that’s where I’m at in this challenging journey. I would rather just not delay the inevitable and get it done now within the next few months. Thank you for talking about this private and personal subject on here. Many women, like myself, find it very informative. 😊

      Glad give a second opinion. It definitely sounds as if you need surgery, and should not have to live with that frustration every day. I hope they can help you!!!

    There are manybkidns did TVT stands for tension free vaginal tape. It is a type of urethral sling. It’s a minimally invasive one with a very small amount of tape (like mesh) used. This usually requires a suprapubic catheter after. I’d ask your doc if this is what he plans to use/do.

      I’m so glad you’ve found my videos helpful. I would suggest preparing to REST and take time off. I’m as much time as the doc recommends, or more! Prepare meals (high fiber) in advance and freeze them. Get some good reading materials or shows to binge watch. Line up help with kids (if you’ll need it). Otherwise, the mental prep you’ve done will be so helpful. Ask about stitches. I’d you’ll have them on the outside. That was a big shocker for me and were very uncomfortable. I just wish I’d known I’d wake to 3+ inches of stitches down there! Good luck!!! Email me if you have any specific questions before or after. Personalprolapsestory@gmail.com.

    Have you ever said what type of prolapse it was? Sounds like bladder, which seems like why you needed all the extra bladder stuff. If it is just a uterine prolapse (and assuming bladder test goes okay) one would not necessarily need the SPCath or need sooo much reconstruction no?

      Richard, welcome to my Channel! You’re the first man I’ve heard from! I have been meaning to reply to each of your comments, but I would suggest that you start with my channel introduction video. It explains everything. I had pretty much every type of prolapse. The super pubic catheter was needed due to the type of repair I had for my stress urinary incontinence; not for my hysterectomy.

      Thank you for the reply i am trying to stay more calm, i believe i got a bit overwhelmed and went into question overload. Im surprised i am the only Male, i want to be as supportive to my wife as possible when she goes through this. I was the only guy on the ivf boards too, back when we tried that for years. Thanks again.

    Is TVT sling different from a urethral sling?

    • @personalprolapsestory
      @personalprolapsestory  7 месяцев назад

      TVT is a certain type of “tape” used to do/make a urethral sling.

    Could u have avoid hysterectomy or that a must if u want prolapse repair

    • @personalprolapsestory
      @personalprolapsestory  Год назад +1

      Hi. Hysterectomy is recommended as best practice to prevent future prolapse (less organs to drop), but it can be done without a hysterectomy. My doc offered, but made it clear the results weren’t as successful and that he couldn’t as thoroughly perform my repairs.
