  • In this video, I offer suggestions and considerations for choosing a vaginal surgeon for your pelvic organ prolapse repair surgery, as it’s a HUGE decision. Specifically, I discuss the importance of finding someone you are comfortable with, looking for a surgeon who specializes in vaginal surgery, finding someone who will remove your fallopian tubes during your hysterectomy, and finding someone who does the repairs by hand, versus with the use of a robotic system (DaVinci robot).

    😮I had a full hysterectomy 4 years ago because of a prolapse, 2 weeks after I went for my check up the doctor said I now have a prolapse bladder through the operation, he advised me to exercise to help the problem, over the years the pain is quite severe I've had several rings inserted but none have been any help, I had a ring inserted several weeks ago but it came out, my pain as been unbearable I went to the doctors last week and I was told to go straight to the hospital I went and after waiting several hours I saw a nurse and Doctor, they looked up my details and they decided to inserted a new ring, since then I have more pain I wish I'd never gone to hospital, I'm so upset I feel I'm not getting the right service from the medical professionals I think I will have to have surgery but I'm quite scared if I do they will cause more problems, my faith in the medical staff is in doubt 😢 🇬🇧

    Thank you for so thoroughly sharing your experience.My prolapse situation has been going on for 2 years and am about to see the 6th consultant. The first said my uterus had prolapsed when it had not, the second said the uterus had not prolapsed that it was the bladder, the third confirmed cystocele with the beginning of rectocele and signed me up for surgery but in the meantime inserted a pessary ring which was fine for a few weeks but then dislodged and had to be removed. It was a nurse who removed it and she was so rough that I bled for a few weeks. I was then referred to another consultant for surgery but he advised me to persevere with pessary ring and suggested a larger size. It was wonderful and I felt like a new woman. Unfortunately it was again a nurse who removed it after 6 months and she was even rougher than the first nurse and I bled for almost a month. I had to wait 4 months to see a consultant who inserted another pessary ring, the same as before. This time I leaked with every step I took and every move I made. Had to go back to try another softer kind of pessary and he was so gentle that it hardly hurt to have it removed and there was no blood. Unfortunately the softer pessary is still causing me to leak profusely which is making my life intolerable. I now have an appointment with another consultant in a few weeks time who has been recommended by the Bowel and Bladder Community. I am in the UK. These people just don't seem to have any empathy and hardly ask any questions. I despair. Sorry this is so long.

      I’m so sorry for your struggle. I wish I had better advice, but I can only suggest that you keep advocating for yourself and wait for a surgeon that knows owe that they’re doing!! Pessaries seem miserable. I never tried one. I’d find a great surgeon and be done with those for good. If you could financially swing a trip/stay in the US, you could check out my surgeon. He sees lots of women from other countries. Email me for his info. Personalprolapsestory@gmail.com

    Thank you so much for your informative video. I am scheduled to meet again with my urogynecologist in 1 week. He examined me 1 week ago and we talked about my 3 prolapses. He did say he was going to remove my uterus but did not mention removing anything else so I’m going to ask him if he can remove my fallopian tubes. I also want to ask if he was going to use the robot system, again he did not mention that either but maybe he did not think of telling me. I will most definitely have my questions ready. I just wanted to say thank you so much for bringing this up since I have watched other videos, about 8 and not one mentioned to remove the fallopian tubes or not to use the da Vinci robot.

      Hi! I always recommended that you do your own research, as I’m no doctor. BUT.. there is research out there that most ovarian cancers begin in the tubes. If you’ve already gone through menopause, I’d still recommend keeping your ovaries, as they still produce 50% of your androgens, like testosterone (for another 20 years or so). As far as the robot, that can be tricky, bc if your surgeon isn’t skilled without it, or is more skilled with it, it MAY be best to use it. In most cases, however, it’s less precise. I’d do some research to determine if there’s a highly recommended vaginal surgeon in your area, rather than a urogynecologist.

    Thank you very much for this valuable information I’m about to have surgery myself and not feeling that good about the Dr I’ve chosen.
    Is there anyway your doctor would make referrals to different areas I don’t know where you are. I am in Oregon?

    Unfortunately having an HMO limits your choices of doctors. Based on your own experience which type of doctor is more qualified for a bladder prolapse? A urologist or a urogynecologist? Thank you.

    Omg the Dr I saw came in and looked at me first words “ok so why are you here your 28 years old you don’t have prolapse there is no way”. I said “yeah actually I know my body”. And after she finally checked me she said that I DID in fact have prolapse. These Drs are so disgusting and disgraceful. Thank you for bringing them up and how they are.
    Also I went home that night and was so hard to pee bc my dr did a catheter too! Nobody even told me that it would hurt or anything. Didn’t even ask if I was on with them doing on either.
    Dang… did we go to the same place?! Lol. Jk. It’s all over the place. These Drs and nurses are out of control and need to do better. They are in the wrong dang profession

    Uro dynamic was it painful the second time

    • @personalprolapsestory
      @personalprolapsestory  7 месяцев назад +1

      I think that urodynamic studies are always a bit uncomfortable, and have the potential to be a bit painful. My second experience was so much better though! You need a nurse, that is gentle, kind, and listens to you. My nurse even allowed me to avoid doing one of the final tests because she knew that I was sensitive and already sore. She said she had already gotten enough information that the final test was not valuable.

    Please help me
    I prefer to get my vagina narrowed and closed and a total hysterectomy
    I have 2 prolapse going on

    • @personalprolapsestory
      @personalprolapsestory  7 месяцев назад

      During my surgery, my vagina was narrowed/tightened a bit. I don’t understand why anyone would want to get it closed off, and I’m not sure that is a possibility. I feel like the vaginal opening needs to “breathe,” but I could be wrong. This is definitely something to discuss with your doctor.
