Hormone Replacement Therapy after Hysterectomy, Potential Ovarian Failure, and Perimenopause

  • In this video, I describe ongoing hormone issues I have suffered since my hysterectomy at age 37. Although my ovaries were left intact, I am experiencing low hormone levels, resulting in a variety of symptoms. My biggest symptoms were extreme fatigue, lack of quality sleep, intense headaches, low libido, night sweats, brain fog, irritability and mood swings, joint pain, muscle aches, and struggles with focusing and thinking clearly.
I discuss the efforts I am taking to determine whether my hormone deficiency is related to ovarian failure, perimenopause, or other potential causes. I also discuss the prescription hormone replacement therapy (HRT) I have begun (bio-identical hormones in the form of a troche), as well as a very informative book I have been reading about potential natural remedies.
In this video, I also explain that perimenopause begins much sooner than many women think (in the 30s), and that the medical community is often unprepared to address it. Women are often dismissed, or prescribed a variety of medications that may not be appropriate. Women must seek help from doctors who understand hormones beyond pregnancy, and continue to advocate for themselves until they feel better. You’re not going crazy! You may not be depressed! It’s likely not JUST anxiety! I am not a doctor, and am only sharing what my own research and experiences have helped me understand.

My medication does not have a brand name. It is not a pill. It is a compounded formula and I take it in the form of a TROCHE. It needs to be prescribed by a doctor and compounded at a compounding pharmacy.

I recommend Sauna therapy. Your body needs to regenerate and the only way to wake it up, is through heat. The amount of benefits are unbelievable. The Asians use sauna for many many health benefits and one of those is to regenerate the cells inside your body.

Treat symptoms not lab number otherwise you can suffer needlessly. As far as synthetic and non it doesn’t matter what you want, it’s what your body needs.

Was it your family doctor that tested your hormones? My family doctor basically just told me that my test showed that I’m not in menopause yet. I was thinking of going to a naturopath for a more in-depth analysis.

It was my gynecologist who ordered the bloodwork for hormones. I think that a gynecologist is a better bet than a family practice Dr, but even better would be some sort of hormone specialist. I need to do an updated video, but I eventually ended up seeing a women’s health hormone specialist, who tailored my protocol even further. It is really true that you cannot rely on bloodwork to make a diagnosis of the need for hormone replacement therapy. It needs to be a symptoms based diagnosis. The tests are just not conclusive enough, they are not specific to different age groups of women, and many of the numbers that are considered “normal, “are not optimal. I would suggest looking within your health network for some type of hormone specialist before going down a path where it will not be covered by insurance. But that is just my personal preference.

Thank you for sharing. I’m on this journey with you with a combo of medication and healthy changes. I cannot find a doctor that accepts insurance, who supports bio identical hormones. I’m curious to hear what you learned about pellets.

Hello. I feel like I could make several videos with what I have learned on this topic. Im taking a combo troche that’s compounded in a local hospital pharmacy. They have assured me that they are bio identical. I pay close to $90 for a 2 month supply, as my insurance doesn’t cover them. The value of a troche under your tongue or between your check and gums is that it absorbs into your bloodstream quickly, rather than having to go through your liver and be digested. It’s not good for the liver. Plus, synthetic hormones react differently in our bodies and often turn into other things (estradiol to estrone for example). Pellets are high doses injected at once, that are meant to last 3-4 months. They are often a very high dose initially, that then wears off over time, leaving you with no enough toward the end. There’s also no way to adjust it once it’s in. So if you have bad side effects, you’re stuck with them until it wears off. It’s just not worth the risk to me, and I prefer a steady dosage and the ability to adjust anytime as needed, by taking more or less.

I use a compounded hormone regimen. I have four different hormones compounded into a troche that I dissolve under my tongue twice per day. There is no specific brand.
