    I’ll say this, the mage hand definitely doesn’t do everything that it says; however, it pretty much can guarantee sneak attack damage every turn since it counts as an entity and you can place it right next to an enemy you get free sneak attack, and the best part is as long as it stays invisible and isn’t spotted it doesn’t go into turn order so you can move it near anyone you’re targeting at any time.

    The funny thing about the Deathstroke/Deadpool comparisons is that they're not coincidental- Deadpool was originally created as Marvel's knock-off of Deathstroke to be strawman version of him that Marvel heroes could face. He only became a more interesting character when his writers also ripped off another DC character: Ambush Bug, who was so insane that he became aware of the fact that he was a comic book character and could talk to the audience directly. So, Deathstroke + Ambush Bug = Deadpool; and Marvel don't even try to hide it.

    As a main rogue in just about any game allowing it since my get go at TT this vod was great.
    I love how people (youtubers mainly) ignore what Rogue actually adds because they don't have an extra attack outside thief, which outside attacking is being mostly ignored.
    I reckon arcane trickster deserves to be recognized as the better mono-rogue starting level 9 due its feature, especially with mystic scoundrel ring (haste also helps). That, and the sheer insult in giving us either invisibility or disguise self to the other subclasses at level 9. At least it ain't animal handling?

    • @PanicRolling
      @PanicRolling  4 месяца назад +4

      Honestly, the main thing Rogues add (in my opinion...I don't have any facts to back this up) is the Stealth and pickpocketing stuff in this game.
      You can spend literal hundreds of hours sneaking around looting and stealing things in this game. Combat is important, but if bg3 had no combat at all, I feel like Rogues would still be about 80% unchanged.

    So the disguise self power is a compromise to the tabletop power. It’s one of my favorite ones from rogues even if a lot of people say it’s bad. Basically if an assassin is given a few days they can create an entire new identity with identification for themselves as well as multiple other people. It’s a way to get your party into social situations they wouldn’t have access to, like having the rogue be a noble and the other party members are their retinue.

So maybe no so useless after all. I have not tested it myself though so don’t hang me if I’m wrong.

    If you really want to play an Arcane Tricker archetype character, the best thing to do is take a couple levels of Rogue and then dip into Wizard. The ability to learn from spell scrolls is way better than the broken mage hand. You can then go for the superior abilities of a Thief and get spell slots from another class like Ranger or Bard, who have great abilities but lackluster lists of spells from which to choose when compared to all the wizard spells you can learn from the many scrolls you will find or steal.

    • @PanicRolling
      @PanicRolling  4 месяца назад

      You can definitely scratch the class fantasy itch by doing this. It would be very powerful too...especially with permanent access to the very very rare spell scrolls.

Multi-classing, I either go 5 gloom stalker/7 rogue (I go back and forth over thief v assassin) or 5 gloom stalker /5 rogue /2 fighter. Give Astarion the same build, pop potions of speed & elixirs of bloodlust, and most fights are done before anyone knows we’re there.

    Yep rouges defintely don't want the fair fight.
    As for subclasses.
    Thief - in tabletop they are more about being thieves and good at item use. The Fast Hands extra bonus action is the primary reason to pick Thief.
    Arcane trickster - your rouge gets arcane tricks. This is the subclass you pick if you want spells.
    Assassin - This is the I want to kill that guy subclass. You are trying to get max damage at the beginning of a fight to take out a target.
    Some subclasses that could come from mods
    Inquisitive - really perceptive and can get sneak attacks easier. (Probably looses alot of value in baldurs gate 3)
    Master mind - good at helping allies, social aspects and learning traits of characters (not sure how valuable it would be in baldurs gate 3)
    Phantom - uses spirits for skills and sneak attacks. Has alot of utility in that it can pick a skill daily.
    Scout - moves quick and is difficult to pin.
    Soul knife - uses psychic powers
    Swashbuckler - this is a pirate uses charisma and is good at dueling.

      Pure Rogue* seems strong for levels 1 through 3, but it is hard to justify not going with Gloom Stalker Ranger after that. You really want to get extra attack from Dread Ambusher around the same time that other martials are getting the normal extra attack.
      *Meaning Thief or Assassin, as with Mage Hand Legerdemain being broken the Arcane Trickster class sucks. It is much better to multiclass your Rogue into Wizard than to pick that subclass. I like to play as a Thief Rogue/Gloomstalker Ranger with a one level dip into Wizard, as the Gloomstalker abilities are great but Ranger spells mostly suck. It is better to use Ranger spell slots for wizard spells learned from scrolls.

His boots also get him regain all of his movement speed with every crit and his offhand hand crossbow gave him an extra action every time he got a ranged crit with either of his bonus action. (The crossbow's effect worked by triggering the action surge effect, and so would not stack with a regular action surge or give an extra action for both bonus actions in one turn but I did get an extra action on about 2/3s of my turns.)

What is even worse is that the script engine command won't work for respecing an oathbreaker either.
      I also think it is ridiculous that taking up an oath again cost a minimum of 10 times as much as having Withers resurrect a lost soul as a Hireling and 5x as much as having him resurrect a party member. If it were up to me I'd make restoring the oath a bit cheaper, respecs a bit more expensive, and resurrections a lot more expensive.
      I've never played tabletop, but I believe the material cost of a resurrection spell is something like 10,000 gold worth of
      diamonds crushed into a fine powder, not a mere 200 gold.
      On a tangentially related note, the camp supply cost of a long rest is also way too low. I think it should scale based on how many characters are in your camp (including not only active party members but even visitors like Volo, Wulbren, Halsin, Elminster, Isobel, Dame Aylin, and the little girl with a cat), not remain a flat 40 or 80 (depending on difficulty level) camp supplies amount no matter how many mouths you have to feed. In my current game I had about 3800 extra camp supplies by the time I made it to the Githyanki Creche. There is no point in even having a camp supply mechanic if food is going to that much more abundant that we need.
