      I can relate. BUT :)
      Melee hunter is pretty fun with dual wielding, so get to lvl 11 and respec, worst case just re-respec. It's quite challenging to go single class ranger hunter, so you can at least enjoy a "higher difficulty".
      Also , the beast master can go well with barb or druid, I'll leave you to check it out (I wouldn't single class it though)
      But yeah, gloomstalker is a freaking house.

      Rangers make excellent player characters, particularly the gloom stalker, which adds 'disguise' at level 3, so you can pretend to be a Drow, etc, which helps with the goblins in Act 1. I tend to choose 'Urban Tracker' as it gives you the ability to open locks and disarm traps which means you can do without Astarion at times. Being able to speak with animals, persuade and buff companions with extra movement are all helpful. By level 5, you have 3 attacks at the start of combat and 2 in subsequent rounds. I tend to go down the dexterity route, which means you are almost the first to move in every combat. 8 levels of ranger and 4 of rogue gets you all 3 available feats too.

They restock after long rests and(i think) level ups. Using the arrow of many targets and the other arrows small splash damage really revitalized the ranger for me. I got kinda discouraged by seeing how few arrow focused spells they got, since hail of thirns does t do bonus dsmage when cast with higher spell slots like its supposed to. Ensnaring strike has potential, but ensnare imposes a strength saving throw, so you kinda have to level strength, or use hill giant club for some consostency, and its a concentration spell so it really hurts to not have constitution proficiency to maintain concentration when you do get hit. Custom areows really helped the climb to level 9 for lightning arrow stay interesting

      Gloomstalker/Assassin is very popular because it can actually solo the game with the right items and playstyle. But you can definitely run a pure Ranger through any difficulty, it just won't have the little bit of extra on the opener.

      level 11 ranged hunter is enough by itself, add 1 war cleric or 3rd feat as you see fit.
      Hordebreaker (4) works well with Wildheart barb tiger (8) is an aoe melee character.
      With Druid 7 Circle Land you get what I think is the best caster, while upping WIS and working on CC (plus double attack :)
      My fav was going light cleric 7 with gloomstalker 5, mainly CC'ing with a bow and the fire hat acuity (don't remember name).
      I had phalar + shield + spirit guardians when CC wasn't beneficial. Barely got touched, and you can easily replace either subclass (cleric - tempest is #2 and war is #3 for me here)

      @@orshefer1467 you do miss on the upper end of ranger/druid abilities though...those two classes can go pure no issue and will be viable. Warlock pacts get stronger as you go so dual class a warlock is kind of wierd too unless you go sorc or bard but then you lose on alot of the pactupgrades so whatever class you pick better make up for it.
      Some classes mixes well though clerics ( especially war ones ) can easily pick up fighter as they are armoured anyway and war cleric with battlemaster fighter tools is a nightmare to deal with as a supporter. Rogue work for some situations and you can techically mix up wizard and bard without losing much and gain new tools. It all depends on if the tools you gain is worth the loss and in the case of ranger/druid I don't think they do.
      cleric of the storm variety could techically mix with druid skills tooallthough I do see mainly storm cleric with some in ranger just for the early stuff being viable but I wouldn't go gloomstalker for that..I rather use hunter for it.

      you would still lose alot of the ranger tools for that kind of thing. Some classes are just better of not multiclassing and druids amd rangers are among those as their toolkit get kind of absurd as they go up in levels. Warlock pact being another one that is stronger the purer you go. wizard/sorcerer/rogue and depending how much you need of it clerics can benefit from multiclassing though.
      A cleric of war that dualclass into a fighter especially battlemaster gets ALOT of tools to support a party

Isn't that the single most important thing and best point, actually hitting the target? You can't crit what you don't hit. Is there actual parsing that conclusively proves there is something better than hitting what you are aiming to hit? Tongue-in-cheek there, but the point is valid.

    I’m kind of new to DnD style combat. Can you do a bg3 for idiots about why magic is strong please? Magic seems weaker than martial because spell slots are so limited and a spell isn’t guaranteed to hit. Except magic missile, but still.

    • @orshefer1467
      @orshefer1467 11 месяцев назад +1

      Spells are sometimes guaranteed to hit, but have a saving throw (DEX mostly) to halve it.
      When your attack roll (affected by your CASTING ability) you can create even higher to-hit chance, and some of those damagers like Chromatic Orb just deal their damage, and can cirt as well. All in all, unless you have a huge amount of damage riders, spells will do more than weapons starting around level 7-8, especially sorcerers.
      Then there are the AoE options which are much more available to casters than militia/ranged.

    • @NeverUseAnApostrophe
      @NeverUseAnApostrophe 11 месяцев назад

      Once a caster hits level five, they get access to third level spells; huge power boost. They get access to spells that requires enemies to make saves as opposed to rolling to see if you hit. These spells control the flow of battle (haste, slow, counterspell, stunning cloud, hypnotic pattern, hunger of Hadar), remove targets from danger or combat (banishment, polymorph, resilient sphere, misty step, dimension door), and deal damage or debuffs over a wide area (fireball, lightning bolt, ice storm, cone of cold, cloudkill) and more. You need to be tactical, imaginative, or both to fully utilize spelly wellies.

    • @PanicRolling
      @PanicRolling  11 месяцев назад +1

      These replies pretty much summed it up. In the very early game, casters can feel very weak. Especially when you're new.
      I was brand new to DnD combat also when I started bg3, so I get it 100%. My first character was a Sorc and I was like "wtf this is so weak...how do I play this?"
      Until 5th lvl, you're gunna have to be careful with positioning and using defensive skills. At 5th lvl, you'll get the big upgrade everyone has mentioned, and you'll start to really see magic shine.
      The amount of answers you can have for various different situations as a caster is ridiculous. Especially Wizards. They are a walking magical Swiss Army Knife.

    I always understood the "large or bigger" category to pertain to gnomes ,halfling etc as in : to them a humanoid would trigger it , otherwise if they mean the literal size class that would be weak . For archers i just feel gloomstalker is the most fun because it also gives utility but a rogue does everything you do better ,and since hide is a bonus option you can sneak attack every round where the gloomstalker has a big dick round at the beginning ,and is then just a semi caster with a bow and a close range gloomstalker is a worse stealth monk who at higher levels teleports to rnemies , ranger companions are good , but dont fit through certain doors and terrain ,really annoying and the druid can do the same ...better ...i really like ranger but maybe for a companion not yours

    Giant killer can be great!!!! Indeed it could be best. Because for race like halfling or gnome , most of the enemies are bigger than you. You can deal more damage often.

    • @PanicRolling
      @PanicRolling  10 месяцев назад

      That's not how it works, unfortunately. It doesn't compare your Ranger’s size to the enemy's size at all.
      It compares the enemy's size to the game's size chart, and if that enemy is in the Large category, or one of the categories that's even larger than Large...then the effect works.
      In the video I actually underplayed how bad this skill is. I think it is literal trash and should never be chosen.
