      Yeh it's easy to lose sight of all of the build possibilities in a world of "ultimate honour-mode ready 1337haxx0r" builds.
      Most of those ARE very good, but there are hundreds of possible builds that could easily clear Honour Mode if you know how to use them. I'm always an advocate for using what you find more fun.

      In case you're looking for content to create, I'm hungry and I'm sure others are too, for trying playstyle builds. Instead of focusing on a class you focus the playstyle. Maybe not as general as "melee," but something closer to "melee caster" which could feature sword bards, trickster rogues, or hexblades. Throw in some "these are min/max dmg options, and these are your CC gods." Just a thought. Love your content!

    Command is actually one of the best warlock spells in the game, when you get to spellslots lvl 5, you can command 5 enemies at once, this is battle deciding. Just command all enemies in a battle ro drop their weapons, and boom, you already won

    • @PanicRolling
      @PanicRolling  Год назад +17

      It's pretty gross, isn't it? Some of the low level spells with upcast effects end up being your most powerful spells, if you hold on to them.
      But yeh, 100%. If you have the ability to crowd control a large number of enemies, it can devastate their positioning and waste their resources. I'm all about it.

    • @Glaamdring
      @Glaamdring Год назад +7

      Yeah, and "stealing" your enemies' weapons that you just made them drop-right out from under them-doesn't require any resources from the action economy. You can just... pick up their weapons mid-fight-making them your weapons, even if you have no remaining Actions or Bonus Actions.

    Helpful tip: if you like to play as a warlock or run with one (or more) in your party, have another party member be a bard. Bard get song of rest at level 2, which effectively acts as +1 short rest per day. At only level 2 dip you could also go 10 warlock / 2 bard. If you hav multiple bards or bard multiclass characters in your party this stacks, so 4 party members with 2 levels in bard can get 6 total short rests per day, letting you replenish your warlock slots after even the most minor encounters.
    None of the origin party members are bards by default, so if you want one in your party and don’t want to take the dip yourself, Astarion makes a wonderful bard. It fits him very well thematically, lore wise, and you can select skills that make him almost as good as a rogue for stealing and stealthing.

    • @PanicRolling
      @PanicRolling  Год назад +2

      Yeh this is an amazing tip and I'm definitely gunna slip it into my Bard video (which is next btw).
      The amount of high level spells you'd get to cast per day would be ludicrous.

    I recommend staring out as a paladin, and after that one level go full into warlock for the rest of the game. That one level dip in paladin will do several things, if you want to go with pact of the blade, you can use inquisitors might to add damage via your charisma modifier, you will also get proficiency in medium and heavy armor, this is a big deal because warlocks can be a little squishy.

      One was that I was convinced the class was like a battle mage, more like a sword toting spell caster. The other was my propensity to roleplay my class. All Paladins must be the hero, and Warlocks must be the evil doers. Also my years as a tabletop D&D fanatic that the warlock had the army of the undead at his beckon call. Not to mention my first books were Gary Guygax white covers, and my friends stopped playing when 3rd edition came out. (giving my age away) so I am a little behind when it comes to 5th. Lastly I never played a warlock so everything I just said may be skewed. Absolutely going to give it a try my next playthrough after watching this. One of the things I love most about BG3 is how much fun it is starting over!@@PanicRolling

    I run a Hexblade Warlock / Swashbuckler Rogue in a tabletop campaign, who is designed to be a superspy. Lots of charm like James Bond, the cunning of Danny Ocean, and the martial prowess of Jason Borne. I'm currently trying to implement the same template into BG3 using vanilla assets, attempting to do this without Mods if possible. (suggestions welcome)
    I would highly recommend you find a tabletop group if you haven't already. It is my steadfast belief that knowledge of one creates appreciation for the other. Meaning: if you like/love BG3, then you would most certainly be entertained by a well run tabletop adventure.

    Going full Goo Tome Warlock is highly recommended. You can acquire so many buffs and utility spells outside of your class, like speak with dead and extra summons, along with items that add spells. So the neat package of high powered spells along with the mass of cantrips and one-a-day spells becomes a really strong competitor. Just learn your list, get creative and strategic and you'll destroy everyone. No need for exploits or cheese. It also gels really well with becoming Half-Illithid.

    • @PanicRolling
      @PanicRolling  Год назад +1

    D and d has other subclasses that i would hope get added to Baldurs gate 3
    Celestial (get some cleric support spells and healing)
    Fathomless (lighting and water stuff)
    Genie (multiple choices for elements)

      While just for safety I'd advocate 3 warlocks and a healer... 4 warlocks pretty much eats encounters for lunch and continues on. it might be a little slow in certain spots if you need to rely on big spells but with a couple of different build options available just by default and then enhance that with some of the multiclass builds and there is a lot there.

    • @PanicRolling
      @PanicRolling  Год назад +3

      Yeh I'd probably have one of them lean pretty heavily into Bard and be our healer, if I wanted to make sure they were all viable Lock multiclass builds.
      I honestly think the best part of this game is the random mixing of different classes into a working party.
      It feels much more like actual strangers being forced by circumstance to work together, rather than a min-maxed party.

    My D&D warlock is a level 5 black dragonborn pact of the fiend. From what I recall, I took spells/cantrips with as many different damage types as I could to cover the most bases possible. Although, I definitely have to modify them for a BG3 counterpart (as certain ones came from sourcebooks that aren't in BG3 like Xanathar's, Elemental Evil, or Sword Coast Adventurer Guide).
    As for a Phantasmal Force story, I haven't used it myself; but I have a funny story of it being used on me, by another party member. I was playing a lizardfolk oath of vengeance paladin for the first time, that I'd deliberately designed to be the polar opposite of one. This paladin was introduced to the party as a trial & vice-versa: 'if they beat me, I join them' sort of thing. I'd throw hints here & there, but I did my damnedest not to give too much away in terms of what class I was & whatnot.
    3/5 party members were relatively battered & so was I, then I made the big class reveal via Lay on Hands restoring 20 HP to myself. Having an idea to try dealing with this unconventional opponent, the half-orc bard did a clutch gamble with Phantasmal Force on the INT save.... I rolled a 2 (since my character's an idiot with a -2 modifier, that meant I technically rolled 0) which incapacitated me. The bard described it as a Moana-esque cage scene. In response, I described crawling & skittering around the cage like General Grievous.
    A few sessions later, my paladin was in a very primal, savage mood & all other attempts to calm down had failed. The bard tried the same thing again to snap me out of it, this time it failed. & I basically went "try again, I dare you". 'Twas a hell of a contrast, all things considered!

    Okay, I have one major irk with your video.
    No, warlocks powers are in fact theirs and they cannot be revoked. This is stated within the manual of 5e as it is one of the main things that differentiates them from characters like clerics or paladins. Even if their pact is broken, the only punishment would be you would need to find a new patron to continue to level up as a warlock, but everything you had up to that point will forever continue to be yours.
    Great video otherwise, but this is a very widely misunderstood mechanic I thought I’d point out 🙂

      This is correct and can confirm. Honor mode is a closer to dnd5e rules, so no extra attack stacking from pact of the blade and martial extra attack, haste doesn't give you a full action worth of attacks, but rather just 1 attack, and it's the same thing with elixir of bloodlust.

    Yes, guidance is fantastic, but it's hard to miss out on with so many ways to access it. Call lightning is also great, but most of the time, concentrating on hex is more useful. I don't think that haste is enough to justify an entire sublass.

Not that they needed NPC interaction like Wyll/Mizora but something akin to breaking a Paladin oath would have been an interesting mechanic. Patron demands X choices, if you don't then you lose your powers until you reconcile somehow...
    For roleplay reasons I say my Patron (fiend) has a BBQ restaurant he's trying to expand/advertise and I play as a region scout. Every time I do fire based damage I say the name of the restaurant. Think "Brought to you by Carl's Jr" from Idiocracy.

    I might be delulu on this, but is the fit on 9.58 inspired by Vivi Ornitier?

    It's been two weeks since this video, and I'm not sure if the NPC reaction to summons has actually been fixed, but I was told recently that they had been? Previously it was a nightmare trying to play a mass summons build. Took forever to summon everything, but then I had to keep all of them outside of town any time I wanted to enter or everyone would just run around screaming.

      I'll have to take a look, because that would be awesome if they changed it.
      Makes sense that people would freak out, but it also has to be a fun video game lol.

    Hear me out. Warlock + Lore Bard. Use Magical secrets to pad out your spell kit with either good utility or thematic spells + more skills.

      A nasty combo. The synergies between Bards and Locks are probably some of the best available.

      @@PanicRolling not wrong plus this combo is great for playing a Evil Mastermind who takes over the Absolute. Combo dark themed & crowd control style spells with great skill spread & snarky quips from cutting words. 😏
      Recommended Party:
      Shadowheart: War Domain Cleric with Dark Justicar Gear.
      Astarion: Assassin/Gloomstalker multi class dual wielding hand crossbows.
      Minthara: Either Vengeance or Oathbreaker Paladin with a Two Level fighter dip.
      Bardlock: Great Old One Warlock + Lore Bard combo with high investment in Illithid Powers.

      Sounds like a perfect build to me. Optimizing fun > optimizing stats.
