    I do simple youtube videos on a tripod with my GH4 and am debating on getting the 12mm Leica or the Voigtlander Nokton 10.5mm lens. Which one should I get??? I have the Voigtlander 17.5 and absolutely love it but I need something just a tad wider since the camera is so close to my face.

    • @AlliandWill

      Both will do a fine job for RUclips. The Voigtlander will be a bit wider, and will be better in low light. I’d decide based on if you can find a good price on one of them.

      Ya that lens is awesome! Really high end glass like from Cooke Optics is very heavy, so I actually prefer these Voigtlander lenses being heavy lenses because I’m more used to it and it feels more stabilized and professional. Not like a cheap toy. Thanks for the comment! Have a great day!

    Is 0.95 equals 1.9 in fullframe? Which set will make better video in night. GH5 + VOIGTLANDER 17.5mm f/0.95 or S5 + LAOWA 35mm f/0.95? Which sensor should win ff or 4/3?

    • @AlliandWill
      @AlliandWill  3 года назад +1

      Naturally FF will outperform m43 because it’s larger and can let more light in. However, if you look at the GH5s camera, they did an incredible job maximizing that sensor to produce very good low light results. So I would say it depends on the tech involved with the sensor, more than the native sensor size itself. If you’re talking about just the GH5 and a 0.95 lens verse another FF camera with a 0.95 lens, then the FF probably will do better in low light.

      A Nikon D-850? That is one beast of a camera. I am using the GH5s for video work but am looking at the Canon 5D MK IV or D-850 for stills work. Learn to focus manually. It is the best way. Because you have a full frame camera a F1.2 Lens is very fast a great in low light. A 20mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm lens would be a great selection. It all depends on your requirements. A good 24 to 70mm zoom would be great. Try and hire the lens first to see if it fits your needs. If you practice hard manual focusing it will be rewarding.

      @AlliandWill  5 лет назад +1

      @@tonylouisvisionvideography3469 Thank you for contributing and helping others with providing your knowledge :) I agree with your suggestions! Although, the 5D MK IV I don't think would be my choice. We're big fans of the Sony A7iii and are considering it because of the low light performance, but in all honesty, for video, the GH5 is pretty amazing.. even the gh4 we used for several years and had great results. As long as you have decent gear, it becomes more about the person and their creative abilities and skills.

      @@AlliandWill What is the distortion like on the 10.5? Would it be suitable for real estate work do you think? I've been looking at the 17.5 but this looks like a good wide angle solution for MFT to have in addition.

    • @AlliandWill
      @AlliandWill  5 лет назад +1

      @@SteveT__001 This is a fantastic lens for Real Estate and it's actually why I bought it, to be able to capture smaller rooms and make them look bigger, plus being able to expose properly in low light. It's not considered a fisheye, but will be pretty wide (21mm equivalent), while also being extremely good in low light. Anytime I need a shot in low light that's wide, this is my go to. It has slight warping if you angle the lens up or down in a room, but that's to be expected from any wide lens. At 21mm I wouldn't say the distortion is noticeable for the actual wideness you are getting. (Unless you put it close to someones face for example, but again, that is expected.)

    Hi Alli & Will, just discovered your channel as I am looking for the perfect Wide Angle lens for my GH5. So its between these: 1. VOIGTLANDER 10.5mm f0.95 MFT Nokton Lens 2. Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 8-18mm f/2.8-4 ASPH. 3. Kowa Prominar 8.5mm F2.8 MFT Lens . Any advice guys which lens I should? Would really be grateful. I am using it for filming video only. I also have the Voigtlander Nokton 25mm f/0.95 Lens which is great for low light filming.

    • @AlliandWill
      @AlliandWill  5 лет назад +2

      Hey! Those are some great options! It comes down to your style of filming and the type of filming you normally do. For us, we run a video production company and do a lot of commercial shoots, so naturally we need higher quality glass and faster lenses; prime lenses are the best option for that. This is the reason we only Voigtlander 25mm and decided to also buy the Voigtlander 10.5mm. We can capture any room now and get a great wide view, even if there's limited light. If you aren't doing videos for real estate, or commercial type of content; you might be better spending less and going with a wide zoom instead. It won't be as good in low light, but let's say if you're always outside filming for the type of content you do, it won't be a problem that you're limited to f2.8.
      I think the 8.5mm is a little TOO wide for commercial work, unless you're capturing very specific things. Although, I haven't tested it.
      We also own the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 lens for Nikon, as well as a nikon to MFT speedbooster, so that combination can produce great results as well. The Voigtlander is simply just a superior lens though. It's sharper, better in low light, far more accurate, and feels professional. The only downsides in comparison, are it is a prime, so there's no zoom option, and it's more expensive.
      If you have the money, I think you'll love the Voigtlander 10.5mm because it goes very well with the 25mm Voigtlander.
      Hope that helps!

    they should come up with a way for your camera to name the picture before you output it. For example, naming it in code like F095X3FT10.5MM so each time you take a picture the name shows up and that could give you a reference but for each picture you take, stopping to name it can be timely. But if you can set up a folder hierarchy where you can save each shot could help you remember. Or you can simply create a task list and set up a range like 10 mins first 15 shots one setting, then next 10 minutes another setting and so forth. Tedious but would be simple if Panasonic comes up with a way for you to easily set up a folder structure with quick naming options. Maybe setting up a menu setting where after each shot, a menu pops up asking what the settings are and which folder you want to save it in and you can name the folders... then it can save to the file. Of course features like time and date are settings in the background, so more than likely they can set up some menu for this characteristic. But I'm curious of what you guys think. Maybe the idea is dumb.... lol.

    • @AlliandWill
      @AlliandWill  3 года назад

      Ya, definitely a cool idea. I"m not sure how many people would use that feature though. There is some basic meta data when taking photos that helps identify the shot based on settings used. It's not really the same for videos though. The good news is it does name each new clip with a unique continuous number.

    This looks more like a commercial for the lens rather than a review. Unfortunately the reviewer has fallen into the trap that virtually every RUclipsr editor falls into and that’s Over-production! The reviewer spends more time speed-ramping the footage (especially in low lighting which makes it even more difficult to see the footage) making it virtually impossible for the viewer to get any idea of the lens performance - simply put: we can’t evaluate the footage! Secondly, although the reviewer is making a comparison with other lenses, far far too much emphasis is placed on them with very little information about the Voigtlander 10.5 itself!!
    Here’s some free advice: Learn how to get your message across without distracting visuals - your audience is not interested in your editing skills only the information your video contains (in your case more test footage, not footage of you rabbiting on about nothing!) Also research the lens fully so you have a useful amount of information to give!

      Thanks for your feedback. Have a read through the other comments in the video, it seems many others enjoyed it. There is no rule for how a review video should be made. some go in depth and get very technical, others simply explain why they like it and why they bought it and show some footage of them using it, that's what I did. I mentioned what lens it is, it's weight, the brightness, the build quality, compared it to another lens, explained why I bought it and showed a bunch of low light clips. I'd say that counts as a review.
      Regarding your low light comment; It's the fastest wide lens you can buy, so naturally it makes sense to be used in low light situations.
      I created this video completely free and had fun doing it. You seem very disappointed in something you've discovered and can consume for free, I'm sorry you feel that way, but thank you for your feedback and will consider it moving forward. Also, I purchased the lens and it was very expensive. It was not given to me, so it's not a commercial for the lens.

    Calling the voigtlander 25mm a “voigtlander 50mm” is inaccurate.

      A 25mm lens on M43 sensor is equivalent to a 50mm focal length on a full frame or 35mm sensor. That’s literally the reason Voigtlander manufactures that line of lenses. 10.5mm = 21mm, 17.5mm = 35mm, 25mm = 50mm and 42.5mm = 85mm. They made those lenses to cover the traditional set of prime lens focal lengths. So no it isn’t inaccurate, if you watch the whole video, I mention it’s equivalent to 50mm.
