To say that the clarity of the lenses are crisp and sharp are an under statement. Truly amazing optics! Looking forward to your pics. Brilliant video Dave.
Just purchased a Voigtlander 10.5mm & another 42.5mm F/0.95 from Robert White. I dropped my 42.5mm 2 years ago on solid concrete, and it still performed 100%. I sold it and purchased a new one. My first Voigtlander was a 17.5mm F/0.95 purchased 3 and a half years ago. I also had a 25mm F/0.95 and sold it with regret. I will purchase another one from Robert white. I like the service he offers with quick, safe delivery and the lenses well packed. Voigltander glass is my favourite
The bokeh on these is pretty damn nice. Got to love that ridiculously wide aperture! This is one area MFF cameras shine, you can get much wider apertures for a LOT less than on a DSLR or Medium/Large format system. It makes this kind of photography much easier and cheaper for people to get into at the entry level.
Mr.Geekanoids, just got my 17.5mm MFT today $ 819.00 (Texas Media thru Amazon). wow!!! I love it!!! "THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVISORY SIR" will practice manuals and save $$$ for 25mm. you are the best indeed....
Hi, have you taken any photos with these lenses and if so where can I see the results. Also if you could only afford one, which one would you keep? Thanks
The 17.5mm lens is a click less lens if you have version II. there is a ring at the front you just turn it and you have the choice of click less of click aperture stops
hopefully you are well and ready to rock n roll again after that undesirable mishaped with the black cab....someone from the store here in Berkeley Ca where I reside.was insisting to me to get the 42mm because of the longer focal length and the bokeh effects. what's your opinion sir?
Own a GH4 with a 14-140mm, planning on getting myself a 17.5mm next. If anyone thinks the 25 or 42.5mm would be better for me please tell me why. Most likely gonna get my next lens in 2015.
What kind of photography do you do? Nobody can answer your question without knowing how you will use it..if you shoot portraits alot get the 42.5, if you want something to walk around with that can stay on your camera for pretty much any purpose including some portraits get the 50, if you want an even better general purpose thats wider with less opportunity for portrait use then get the 17.5
AgentXRifle congrats man. I hope you enjoy it! Im planning on picking up 2 or 3 of them this year. I know I want the 42.5 and the 25mm so those will be the first two I get. Then I am not sure if I want to get the 17.5 or wait for the new 10.5 that is coming out this year.
joshuassonjs Personally for shooting UHD 4k I like the 17.5's "35" feel once cropped. Although when shooting DCI 4k I can only imagine how nice the 10.5 would be!
AgentXRifle thats true. The gh4 4k crop does change the game a little. I am actually shooting on my gx7 and g6. Havent picked up a gh yet. Might get a gh4 this year too or wait until the gh5 releases. Gear acquisition syndrom is rough lol
Question for anyone, here! It's a pretty newbish question: why is it that the 17mm lens is physically larger and heavier than the 25mm? They are otherwise identical aside from focal length, right? Generally speaking, I've noticed that longer focal lengths tend to come with longer bodies.
you are the best that so far that represent this whole set of mft nokton, as a no how yet photograper, which one do you recommend for me to start with among the two the 17.5 or the 25 mm as all purpose mechanical lense. I want to learn the mechanical. S I am using omd E M1with 17mm f 1.8 12-40 mm f 2.8 and the 40-150m f 2.8 as a newbie I am not ready yet for the nokton 42.5mm, it has to be auto...anyone can help me choose between the two 17.5 or the 25mm type2. :)
Noel-Nelson L Segismundo Due to the crop factor, I would personally go with the 17.5mm, which gives you 35mm equivalent, great perspective for street photography.
Geekanoids Hope I'm in the first one million. I signed up an hour and a half after WWDC ended, and the signup page is still up presumable still accepting applications, so heres hoping!
sir my choice is either 17.5 or 25mm as a newbie between the two...where are we stand at? I bought the Olympus OMD E M 1 because the way you represented the unit. I will listen to you, on your expertise and the knowledge among the MFT Nokton. I need to practice more on mechanical and I need the all purpose lense among the three Voightlander MFT...thanks indeed...
Hi..as of now I am still practicing of anything I think that are interesting objects, flowers, and of course my family and etc...a medium distance will be the most length that I do...just like what I said before of what lenses that I have, after all the trial and error and research, I'll decided to go with 25mm/50mil since I do have 17mm f 1.8 by Zuiko. thank you somuch for your time and the reviews that you are doing + + + 1
Hi Dave, I recently purchased the 17.5mm and 25mm versions of these lenses for my GH4, and absolutely love them. I was surprised and a little disappointed to learn from your video that the hood shipping with the 42.5mm lens is not like the others. Can you comment on whether or not the side screw scratches or damages the lens when the hood is mounted? Thanks much!
lawrencejames Most wide aperture lenses, when wide open, will exhibit rather "soft" focus. Most lenses will sharpen up when stopped down a couple of stops from their widest aperture. His clips show how the lenses perform at both, wide open and stopped down to f4.
I can also confirm there is an additional ring at the front of the lens to change the aperture to clickless.

Awesome comment, thanks Tony.
I have the 10.5 and the 25mm. Do I need the 42.5mm as well? You like it?
I like it a lot.

TalesOfWar Agreed, awesome lenses.
About to buy the 42.5 myself for my gh5
It's a lovely lens for sure.
Geekanoids yeah looks fantastic and LOVE my GH5. Looking at a used mint copy for $680, just waiting to pull the trigger lol

Noel-Nelson L Segismundo That is great news, I hope you enjoy your new lens.
thank you.
The 25mm Lens is awesome
Hi, have you taken any photos with these lenses and if so where can I see the results. Also if you could only afford one, which one would you keep? Thanks
All these voightlander is a manual lens sir?
Yes, all manual.

Thanks for letting me know. Have a great week.
Geekanoids You're welcome
How far away is your desk and camera?
Just seen your message about click less operation
A nice set of lenses to pick and choose from there Dave :)

I agree the 42mm has amazing bokeh.
Wonderful glass, and great review.
I'm in love with the 17.5mm for my GH4, but I really want to get my hands on the 25! They are absolutely awesome! =)
I can also confirm there is an additional ring at the front of the lens to change the aperture to clickless.

joshuassonjs I actually just recently got myself the 17.5. No regrets.

Nice review. Can you tell me, do I need an adapter to put those lenses on a panasonic lumix gh4?
***** No adapter required, they are all M43 mount.

Thanks for the good advisory sir....
For filmmaking photography these lenses are second to none
:D
Geekanoids What does
:D mean?
Seriously dude? You don't know what :D is?
No! Not good at Symbol language. Must learn it
:D is "Happy" LOL
I have all 3 of them. They are awesome lenses. The only problem I have is with the 42.5mm F/0.95 lens. The slip on hood that comes with it don't fit.
The hood is a bit tricky.
Geekanoids I know. Can't get it on at all. My heat it up (thermal expansion) and add a lubricant and see if it slips on
These are just beautiful lenses I'm in love :O
THECREATIVEGEEK They are awesome.
Hello Dave, I know this is off topic for this video, but have you heard that the Yosemite Public Beta is going to be released today!
Yep, exciting times :D

no 10.5?
Not when this video was made ;D
If only I could afford a GH4 and these lenses!! :-) Good review :-)
Receives a F0.95 lens, stops it down to F4???

Друзья мои, у всех этих стекляшек есть один недостаток.... И огромный, это ЦЕНА. КОСМИЧЕСКАЯ ЦЕНА!!!
Unfortunately Voigtländer is nothing for me because of all manual handling! *too sad*
Thanks for watching 🤓👍🏻
mkay
:D
I just came here to say, "mmkae..."
🤓👍🏻
