    In July 1973, the world mourned the death of Bruce Lee. The martial arts master and creator of Jeet Kune Do and soon-to-be Hollywood legend was only 32. He left behind a wife, two children, and an influence that continued to expand around the globe.
    Lee had a massive following in Asia at the time of his death, but he also built a life in America with his wife, Linda, that included a circle of celebrity friends. One of those friends was Steve McQueen.
    Bruce Lee’s funeral service in Hong Kong attracted more than 15,000 mourners. Hundreds of police formed a human chain to hold back the crowds. As the hearse containing his body departed, “Bruce’s fans went wild with grief, “Old men wept, young girls fainted, and many people were hospitalized for shock and minor injuries.” At the time of his death in 1973, Lee was the most popular actor - arguably the most popular person - in Asia. He was 32 years old, handsome, charismatic and a martial-arts expert whose movies “Fist of Fury,” “Way of the Dragon” and “Enter the Dragon” were international hits. But in the U.S., “Enter the Dragon” hadn’t been released and Lee was best known as Kato on “The Green Hornet,” a TV series that was canceled after one season. His widow, Linda Lee, chose to have her husband buried in Seattle, her hometown and the place where she first saw Lee when he gave a lecture on Chinese philosophy at Garfield High School. Many people dedicate their lives to actualizing a concept of what they should be like, rather than actualizing themselves. This difference between self-actualization and self-image actualization is very important. Most people live only for their image. I remember coming home from Junior high School and my mother told me that she had something to tell me. She told me that Bruce Lee had died. I was like what? And I saw the news on television and they had a News bulletin that said Bruce Lee had died. I said then life is short. Of course life is always short but when Bruce Lee died that woke me up. I hope Bruce Lee is with the Lord Jesus Christ, but according to what I have read Bruce Lee was a atheist. If that is true I hope Bruce Lee changed his way of thinking. Of course that's between Bruce Lee and Jesus Christ.

HE FELT, WHY SHOULD HE, BRUCE LEE, ASK GOD OR ANYONE ELSE FOR PERMISSION TO DO SOMETHING OR THERE'S SOMETHING HE WANTS, SO JUST GO OUT AND DO IT OR GET IT. /I READ THIS IN LINDA LEE'S BOOK: THE MAN I ONLY KNEW.

    The swollen face wasn't due to the embalming. The photo was taken before the autopsy. If the photo was taken after the autopsy and embalming you would see the shaven skull cap sewn back on but it's clearly before any autopsy or embalming had begun. Also his lymph glands on both sides of the neck were removed during autopsy for analysis and again, clearly this had not happened yet in the photo.

    • @TomBleecker
      @TomBleecker  2 года назад +10

      I deferred your post to my friend, and this was his response: " If the pic of Bruce was taken in QEH morgue, it's before the autopsy and embalming. They don't do autopsies and embalmings at QEH, right? If he was taken to an ME's office for autopsy and the pics were taken there, that would be prior to embalming. The way it's done here is a decedent that is going for autopsy is taken to the ME's office. From there, they are brought to our FH where embalming is done. I've never heard of an autopsy and embalming being done at a hospital.
      "Bruce's head wasn't shaved. You know how the skull cap is removed, right? An incision is made along the back of the head from ear to ear, the scalp is pulled forward over the face, followed by some sawing and hammering. No need to shave the head. Besides, how can you see the incision has been sutured closed on the back of Bruce's head? Your poster is all wrong there. I have no idea about the lymph glands. You have the AR. Were the removed?

      "Just looking at the pic, Bruce looks like he's on an embalming table. He could be at the ME's office also. He has a nice head block under his head (I've done hundreds of removals from many different hospitals, and I've never seen a head block used at any hospital) his hair is wet where it looks as if they maybe had bathed him prior to embalming. We bathe every decedent prior to embalming. He looks like his features have been set. His eyes are closed and in good position, and so is his mouth. They put eye caps under the eyelids as the eyes recede after death, and the mouth is wired shut or tied shut with string. Once the features are set, you don't want to move the decedent around too much. And btw, calvarium clamps are used to hold the skull in place once the autopsy is finished. Hope this helps."

      @@TomBleecker The photo of him laying on the table was taken on July 23rd by the reporter Patrick Wang prior to the autopsy being done by Dr Lycette on that same day. The embalming wasn't done by Kwong Kam-Chi until early on July 24th.
      The autopsy report states that the lymph glands on both of the neck was removed for analysis and also the trachea was checked for any obstruction so that was probably cut open as well and stitched back up. Ask yourself why at the Hong Kong funeral only his face was exposed in the coffin? The white satin cloth was covering up the work Dr Lycette had done during the autopsy on Bruce's neck. At the Seattle funeral, the high collar of the blue suit he was wearing covered up the stitches.
      One last thing, if the hair wasn't shaved off, why is it very obvious Bruce was wearing a wig in his casket? It may not be common practice to shave the head in an autopsy for brain removal in the United States but in other countries removal of the top of the cranium to access the brain is standard procedure back then.
      I enjoy your channel, keep up the good work.

      @@GregProbert1971 Some interesting reading about the photo of Bruce after death in the link I will provide. Two scenarios are at play here and both suggest the pic was taken at the funeral home and that would be after the autopsy. Patrick Wang claimed to have bribed the "morgue beautician" by giving her 1,500 KH dollars to let him take the pic. On the other hand, Tsui Shing On claims that he and a colleague, Tony To, took the famous picture. The beautician (Madam Kwong) would never go to a Medical Examiners office to cosmetize (apply makeup) and fix the hair of the decedent. That is always done at the funeral home. I am in agreement with both scenarios in that the photo was taken at the funeral home after the autopsy. His features appear to be set (mouth and eyes are closed and look good) his hair is wet as to suggest he is being washed and being prepared for dressing and casketing as well as cosmetizing. It also suggests that is his real hair.
      Was the photo taken before or after embalming? I don't know. I will say that cosmetizing a decedent is always done after embalming. I haven't seen the autopsy report, so I don't know anything about his lymph glands in his neck being removed or his trachea being checked for a blockage. The people that have the AR should know if this is true. The AR would also say if his head was shaved. Or it should say. What say you, Tommy Bleecker? Lymph glands in his neck cut out? Throat cut to check his trachea? Was his head shaved?
      Interesting discussion. Nice hearing different scenarios as to what may have happened. Here is the link. About halfway down the page look for: "The Truth About Bruce Lee's Morgue Photo."

    Hi Tom, your friend Chuck Sullivan did interview with RUclipsr Viking Samurai, in regards to Bruce Lee’s speed test demo. If I recall right, you were at the Longbeach tournament in 67 when Bruce Lee did speed test with Vic Moore. As we see in footage, Moore failed to block Lee’s strikes, but goes on to say he then asked Lee to block his strikes, but Lee failed, and his eyes began to tear up with humiliation. He also makes a further outrageous claim that immediately after beating Bruce in speed test, he sparred him in a private room within the auditorium, and defeated Bruce. He also claims a cameraman filmed it. What’s your take on this, if I may ask? Also, it would be great if you appeared on Viking Samurai’s channel. In fact, a number of people have asked him to interview you. Thanks.

    • @TomBleecker
      @TomBleecker  Год назад +7

      If you freeze the footage at the point where Bruce's back fist is fully extended, it is clear that it is about a half-foot out of range of scoring. An instant later, Bruce shuffles forward and stands nose-to-nose with Moore, which gives the illusion that he was "in range." I suppose Moore could say, "Why would I bother to block a strike that wouldn't have hit me?" That said, I, personally, have been on the receiving end of Bruce's speed and don't feel that Vic Moore could have blocked Bruce's back fist had it been launched within range. I am not aware of Vic Moore issuing a reverse challenge or sparring with him privately afterward. As an aside, if a cameraman had filmed Vic Moore defeating Bruce, I would think that (1) Vic Moore would have gone to great lengths to obtain a copy of that footage, (2) the cameraman would have sold that footage to any number of sources for a high price, and/or (3) someone would have seen that footage over the past fifty years, which to my knowledge hasn't occurred. With regard to appearing on Viking Samurai's channel, I don't know what I could talk about that I haven't talked about on the 14 YoutTube videos on Bruce that I posted last year. Cheers

    One of the posters here is right. Pressure control on the embalming machine needs to be set low. Especially when injecting the head with embalming fluid. When someone has had an autopsy, the vascular system has been destroyed as far as a normal embalming goes. The internal organs as well as the brain has been removed and analyzed. So, the embalmer has to raise arteries in the arms and legs and inject each one individually. I've seen embalming fluid flowing into the empty chest cavity, (the organs are in a bag and setting somewhere in the embalming room) as the legs are being injected. The embalmer may have to use a trocar (suction device) to remove embalming fluid filling the chest cavity to keep from overflowing. I'm assuming they placed Bruces organs in a bag and sutured them into his chest area after autopsy. Tommy Bleecker may know?
    Injecting the head, the embalmer has to be careful. He or she would remove the skull cap, then use hemostats to clamp on several arteries in the head called the "Circle of Willis." If they aren't held with hemostats, embalming fluid will leak out during injection. The embalmer then raises the artery in the neck and carefully injects the head. Low pressure is required here. If they inject too much fluid, you will see swelling. You may be able the massage some away, maybe not. Once the fluid is in the tissue, it's not easy to remove. Once the head is injected, the hemostats are removed, the area is sprayed with glue, a powder is applied that will create a gel that will help the prevent leaking. The skull cap is also packed with cotton to hopefully soak any leaking the may occur. I don't know how they did embalming 50 years ago in Hong Kong, but this is how I have seen it done now. I also agree with the skin under the nail being dark from the blood that was still there.
    I agree that he most likely leaked some embalming fluid. He was placed in a large shipping crate, transported to the airport where I believe there is a picture of an airport vehicle of some kind, moving the crate across a concrete area to the plane? He was loaded on the plane and flown 10-12 hours to Seattle? That's a lot of bumping around for Bruce. From what I just Googled on cargo holds, they are pressurized and kept at around 45-65 degrees depending on the area in the cargo hold. Would be nice to know what happened to the Bronze Casket from HK.

I read your book ''Unsettled Matters'' around that time and I absolutely loved it. Bob's daughter released a few of those letters and sold them at auction -- Do you think this is the reason why Bruce's health was deteriorating? I don't pretend that I know everything, but I've been a Bruce Lee fan since I was 5 or 6, I read many books about his life and after many years of digging deep, I came to the conclusion a few years ago that Bruce did have his fair share of rollercoaster rides and deep inside, I'm pretty sure that those who knew him personally were aware of what was going on but kept it on the down low in order not to tarnish his image & legacy (understandably). Bruce already had an incident of brain swelling in May that year and almost died. Swelling indicates some allergic reaction, typically to some substance, or combination of substances (we now know about his frequent recreational drug use with multiple drugs), entering his system. On that fateful day he likely had another such incident, and the straw that broke the camel’s back, was likely the Equagesic that BTP gave him. Introducing yet more drugs into Bruce’s system probably caused a major allergic reaction, which caused a deadly coma. And then imagine the drugs they gave Bruce trying to revive him.
    All this to say, perhaps the swelling was the result of all these different drugs trapped in his system, probably interacting with each other causing chemical reactions, and more swelling...

    Another interesting video Tom where you raise many topics. I now feel that you are right that Bruce had already died at Betty Ting Pei's apartment, hence the highly questionable acts by her and Raymond Chow. He even said at the inquest he, "Felt time was not an issue." The Hong Kong funeral was so undignified. I've seen footage of Linda bring pulled from one place to the other by Raymond. I remember in your book how you said it resembled the set in Fist of Fury. A bit more info on Bruce's grave for you. This is the third headstone. The original one with the white book was vandalised early on. John Saxon is buried close to Jesse Glover and Ed Hart. Fellow Seattle student Charlie Woo is buried with his family near the fence. And finally last year they resurfaced around the graves and put up black railings. Sadly you can't read the inscription on the other side of the bench now. Thanks Tom for all your thoughts and added perspective.

    Hi Tom...at the 7:23 mark of this video there's a distinct red mark across Bruce's left cheek .....and a second red mark..(you can't really see it here)... that goes across his left eye brow causing a redness in that area...You mentioned in a previous video Bruce's eye brow appeared singed.... I find it very odd that the coroner never made any note of that red mark across his cheek or the eye brow...... Did you or Linda ever notice that red mark and what you both thought might be the cause? (Maybe a cattle prod?)....Did Linda ever mention anything looking not quite right on his body or face?

    • @TomBleecker
      @TomBleecker  2 года назад +1

      I've seen that red mark in photos and don't place any significance to it. On the night Bruce died, and in the several days that followed, his body underwent a lot of physical movement and testing. That mark could have been inadvertently caused in many ways and in many different locations after his death. No, Linda never mentioned anything about thinking there was anything odd looking about Bruce's body.

    The celebrity death syndrome is the real circus. Many things got buried with Lee. Accountability for one. The Kowloon Tong funeral parlor was tiny, a bad choice , and didn't do a lot of embalming and it showed with the rush job on Lee's corpse, not unlike Raymond Chow's three ring damage control rush campaign to get the whole thing covered and done with. To leak that morgue photo to the papers was low down. They even put it on movie posters with the caption "Bruce Lee dead" underneath. Someone that swollen? That embalming machine speed selector was on too high. Set the speed low and message the face and neck just like you do the fingernails to prevent "pooling" for a better appearance. Secondly, bodies get flown around all the time and there usually is a dry ice or sawdust protocol prep for transit remains. Usually without glass. When that glass was installed and sealed in that casket, the humid air inside gets sealed as well and high altitudes can cause fog condensation or "dew" during really long flights. Some clothes have cheap dye and they can bleed. If the coffin opens during transit or a body "leaks" anywhere to the degree described here , thats a lawsuit. One funeral home will report the other. Someone is losing their license. With whatever happened, the Butterworth mortuary on the corner of Pine Street at the bottom of the hill certainly apologized for it. Lee looked like he should have looked. That place underwent many ownership changes. Its now a big bar and TV room. The food buffet stainless steel table sits where Lee's casket and flowers were. The double doors leading to the Hearst is an outdoor eating space. They kept the "chapel" sign above the door though and the owner shows Lee's movies on the monitors yearly on July 30th. Andre Morgan knows what happened to that bronze coffin. If Golden harvest bought it, Morgan signed for it. Im waiting for his book.The Hong Kong funeral was what it was. Where was the protocol for something that large outside of a riot in Hong Kong of 73? The Rudolph Valentino, Elvis Presley, Al Capone , and Erwin Rommel funerals come to mind in size. I understand a concrete walkway was built leading to Lee's plot. It was fine the way it was. I think about the grave markers in the path the walkway now covers. A small white marker between the bushes and Lee's site. A gentleman buried in 1918. Its still there. Thanks for posting, Mr. Bleeker.

      @TomBleecker  2 года назад +1

      Excellent added information. Thanks for sharing. A couple of comments, where would the funeral director in Seattle report the substandard work of the funeral director in Hong Kong? It seems to me there would be problem of jurisdiction. Second, isn't the pressure in the cargo and passenger sections the same? If so, how would this fog or dew be formed? Again, that's for the great post!

    • @shihanUKS
      @shihanUKS 2 года назад

      @@TomBleecker If their unionized, there are international deputies where you can file a grievance against the work. The pressure would be the same if live animals were part of that cargo. There are designated areas for cargo like caskets with actual remains because of how they are secured but pressure related changes would not be a priority due to proper sealing. There could be a question of whether or not his expensive bronze casket had proper gasket edging. A funeral in humid July right after tropical storm Dorothy, a packed funeral home and then they bring his casket out and on go those hot seventies tungsten photo lights, some beaming directly in the casket. Super heated trapped air under a glass. I wouldn't doubt that heavy gray foundation on his face was starting to glisten even then. The Kowloon staff were probably neophytes. Glass sealing is not easy. I believe when Linda left Hong Kong with his body, there was residual damp mist weather from the storm and the casket was wrapped in heavy plastic tarp and belted down. Taking off in heavy precipitation and then fly really high cold altitudes over water for hours is standard fare for a 747. It can really fluctuate interior temperatures.

    Good afternoon Tom,
    I've been watching your videos, which have been nice.
    One thing still stumps me, if you can help me with it.
    It's always been stated by Linda Lee, that Bruce was buried in his navy blue silk suite from Enter.
    I read that collector Jeff Chinn bought it at the auction back in the 90s, when Linda auctioned off a lot of Bruce's items.
    He later found out, so I've read, that it wasn't the real deal.
    Also, Shannon Lee is seen on You Tube holding that navy blue suit up, along with that green Kaftan Bruce wore.
    So I wander if he was laid to rest in a different suit and not the Enter one.
    I'm sure Linda would have known what suit he was buried in, so I'm puzzled.
    Many thanks.
    Best wishes.

      Hi Tony. Jonathan (JW) here. Just to add in a bit more to your question. Its possible they had more than one. But Bruce used a lot of his own clothes in the film. You ask a good question. Linda stated in her 1975 book "Bruce Lee: the Man Only I Knew" that she buried Bruce in the blue suit that he wore in "Fists of Fury" because he loved the suit and often wore it around the house. But then, in the book that I cowrote with Linda, "The Bruce Lee Story," she stated that she buried Bruce in the suit he wore in ETD but didn't mention the color. In ETD, Bruce is seen in the opening "finger pointing at the moon" sequence wearing a blue yang outfit. However, in later scenes, he is seen wearing a white jacket (yet never a white suit). As an aside, I can't imagine Bruce wearing a white suit around his home. Some have conjectured that Bruce was initially dressed in his blue suit, but when the suit was damaged during the flight to Seattle, that the people at the funeral home in Seattle changed the suit. And last, if you look at the photos of both the funeral in Hong Kong and Seattle, it appears that Bruce's collar is blue, not white. I hope this is of some help.

    • @jwfloating-world

      Tony I've just watched the Shannon Lee memorabilia video again and she says "Its one of suits he had made." So this means there as to be at least two. Mathew Polly writes he was wearing the Enter the Dragon suit at the Hong Kong funeral. Whereas Norman Bourine (who both Antony Smith and I met in 1991 but at different venues), says it was the Chinese Connection suit. Perhaps it was the Fist of Fury suit used in the Hong Kong funeral and swapped for the Enter the Dragon suit in Seattle.

    The needle mark on his chest is when adrenaline was injected directly into his heart on the Queen Elizabeth on July 20.

      According to Linda, she saw the needle mark when Bruce was taken from the ambulance, so as I surmised, one of the ambulance attendants injected adrenaline into Bruce's heart en route to Queens.

      @@TomBleecker I do not know if Bruce was also injected with adrenaline in the ambulance, but it is true that I have read in other serious books, that this direct injection to the heart was in the QE, as a last attempt desperate to resurrect him, I even heard Linda say it in a documentary, she being present in the whole process of trying to resurrect Bruce

    Incredible,even when It comes down to Bruce's interment that too is surrounded by controversy and intrigue!!!! One assumes he is buried in Seattle but then again it's not a 100 percent certainty. Odd odd odd. Did his enemies possibly want Bruce nearer to them even in death??? Something like Billy The Kid's grave being surrounded by bars so he Couldn't escape even in death??? It begs the question: just what was Bruce involved in???? Actually It isn't such a far stretch. Enter the Dragon what was Han's goal??? The tournament was A front for recruiting players from all over the World to distribute Drugs!!! In Game Of Death Bruce wouldn't play along to the demands of a group or Cartel with similar interests. It's uncanny that real world situations in life run through Bruce's movies. Hiding the truth in plain sight because no one wants to Believe it and well hey It's just A Movie. It's not a far stretch indeed that Triads approached Bruce once he made It Big to play ball. Or that It was immediately the case through Raymond Chow and Golden Harvest Studio's,being a front to other obscure matters!!!! Hey it's just some thoughts on the matter no Proof about this because the World is just one beautiful place(hum)
    What struck me too reading your book,was when Raymond Chow announced to the reporters that Bruce had died that he Said Bruce was A very sick man!!!! Was It because Bruce told him about how bad he was feeling physically those last months???? Chow must have seen also how Bruce lost weight and muscle mass. Seeing that the doctors didn't know at the time what went wrong did Chow know exactly what was ailing his Super Star??? And Bruce saying to Chow that was his last Martial arts movie he would make!!! Bruce knew his time was up???? I mean had he lived through this his carreer would have been over,because of the athropy going on with his body??? Mindboggling
    Oh and I just wondered about this,did Bruce and Elvis Presley ever meet up or have any training together ???? Seeing as to how Ed Parker was zo well aquainted with both of them I have never read anywhere about any encounter between Elvis and Bruce. Just 1 picture I ever saw and I Believe It to be fake. Surely Elvis attended a Longbeach Tournament once but was Bruce then there???? Oddly never a mention of this in any of their biographies!!
