And Little Richard on getting caught up with drugs and sleeping around.
Bruce died broke ,would have been a major disaster for the Lee family back in 73. I assume his money management was very poor. This is how mr chow must have taken an advantage of the situation.
Although Bruce technically was nearly broke when he died, he was owed a lot of money by Chow. The problem was that Bruce had never signed any contracts with Chow and when Bruce died, Chow held all the purse strings. Eventually, Chow was forced to pay Bruce what was owed, which amounted to over two-million dollars in the early 1980s when he settled.
Next time you come to Dublin , let me know 🇮🇪
Wow I am so happy to have discovered this channel. I read unsettled matters , years ago. It was disturbing to have the myth destroyed , to some degree; but I knew I was getting the truth. And that has been proven ; eg the stories about Bob Baker and the low box office receipts of way of the dragon
The worse thing that happened to martial arts was a chair, headphones and hours of talking while sitting down; instead of training. It’s ironic, fanatics who never met Bruce Lee, go about it like they broke bread with the man and watch him pee. And paradoxical, that their algorithm thrives on “talking about Bruce Lee” for two to three hours. You know how many punch and kicks you can reps you can log in 3 hours
Hasn't happened in American Kenpo. Thanks for your post. Cheers ruclips.net/video/zSv8q0DhTWE/видео.html
You handled that with class Tom, whilst the same cannot be said for this Alex KFG guy. The fact he actually tried to get you on his channel then turned against you, speaks volumes! You should know that Alex comes from the Leung Ting lineage of Wing Tsun but is regarded as a very incompetent joke that tries hard to promote himself. At EWTO headquarters in Heidelberg, Instructors and students often play videos of Alex Richter doing Wing Tsun for the comedic value as he is so physically incompetent. When he left Leung Ting's organization he did not know the full system, so I have no idea where he is meant to have learned the rest of the system from or if he picked it up from books and videos. Alex Richter is a very poor fighter too, however to be fair he has never claimed to be otherwise or put himself up there with tough fighters in the Wing Tsun lineage, Mr Bean would beat Alex in a no rules fight. Whilst you actually met and knew Bruce Lee, Alex obviously never did but unbelievably he seeks to criticize you and considers himself an authority on all things Bruce Lee. The way Alex tries to dissect your book is laughable because you could do that with any such book e.g. Bruce Lee died and the official verdict was given but any biographical author is then going to give surrounding circumstances and their views. The fact is your book told it all first, and was the first to show the real Bruce Lee warts and all, whilst these RUclipsrs like Alex are completely irrelevant!
I've received numerous emails and Facebook PM expressing much of what you wrote in your comments. Many who watched Richter's videos trashing me and UM (many said they couldn't watch beyond five or ten minutes) easily understood why I, from the outset, had no interest in being a guest on his podcast. Thanks for your comments. Cheers
I kind of doubt Alex is as much of a pathetic Wing Chun practitioner as you say. He's got a successful studio in NY City, which is highly competitive in Kung Fu schools and he has people in Europe and even Hong Kong that respect him. Even some highly respected Hong Kong Sifu seem to respect the guy. Maybe he's not highest level Sifu, but he also doesn't seem to be the mega loser you claim.
@@TheFiestyhick Since when does success mean any good, albeit a small success at that, Ashida Kim - Ninjitisu, Carter Hargreaves - Jeet Kune Do are far more successful and well known than Alex Richter. You should view videos of Alex, Ashida, Carter then decide yourself on their respective abilities. In Wing Chun, Wing Tsun circles he is viewed as a physically incompetent joke. As for his knowledge, he left Leung Ting's organization IWTA / EWTO without knowing the full system and with huge gaps in his knowledge, you can easily verify that - just email or contact Leung Ting's organization and ask if he learned the full system. Nobody is saying he is a mega loser as you put it, but he is a very poor martial artist and poor fighter. You can ask Alex directly where he learned all the Wing Tsun system from, maybe he is transparent about that and states where he got the blanks filled in and learned the rest of the system. As for his character he wanted Tom Bleeker on his show, then later turned against him. He cannot take criticism even if constructive, and will block you or delete comments. He gets most upset when you question the effectiveness of Wing Tsun for modern combat.
You've got to wonder about someone who is content to name himself 'Kung Fu Genius'. I was hostile to your book when I first read the book UM, it shed light into darker corners of Bruce's life which did something most other bio's didn't and that is show he was human. He had flaws. Additionally, your closeness over the decades with Bruce's network meant you had time to hear so many different views and like all of us, speculate. It's seldom (if ever) that an author writes the ultimate biography but the more biographies you see, the more rounded the perspective becomes. Unlike many biographies, yours doesn't try and create that ultimate biography, it gives the reader a change to ponder questions most leave untold. You are a quality writer Tom and I enjoyed UM and your superb bio of Benny Urquidez. Ignore parasites like Reichter who seek their fame on the back of the amount of hours spent writing Unsettled Matters etc not to mention the considerable expense incurred. It's easier to knock someone who had put those miles in than to do it yourself. Keep it going.
It's always encouraging when a highly perceptive adult enters the realm of Bruce Lee. Your kind words are much appreciated. Cheers
I see you deleted my comment? What are you affraid of? Weird a Trumpian has to censor so much....
Tom your a good man I’ve enjoyed all your videos on Bruce because you knew him his family friends in your book which I’ve read several times over the years mentioned the bob baker situation you was right about it for someone who wasn’t even BORN when Bruce walked the earth to constantly say he knows more about Bruce than people who knew him shows ignorance

Imagine MGM made a picture with Elvis and Bruce Lee. Elvis playing a drug agent Bruce Lee playing some gang leader dealing drugs and weapons And when Agent Elvis finally tracks him down and meets up with him they get into this iconic battle like Chuck and Bruce did. That would have made cinematic history. I wonder who they would have chosen to win the legendary fight.
Ha! You have quite a fertile imagination. I like an ending that would have Bruce and his gang doing a show-stopping dance number (vis-a-vis "West Side Story") to Elvis singing along with a powerful Broadway-style orchestra. Or perhaps a bizarre production number like the one in "The Producers" Springtime for Hitler" ruclips.net/video/ovCf9VRLnDY/видео.html
@TomBleecker I think your imagination is better than mine. Bruce Lee did win a dance contest when he was younger and Elvis as we know for certain was a great singer and dancer. A musical movie with these two far exceeds my imagination. But they were both gifted entertainers, to be honest with you they might have even pulled it off doing a musical. But I think it would have been more along the lines of a star is born rather than West side story
@@simban00 As I recall, prior to the release of ETD, the idea of doing a movie with Elvis was floating around, although nothing was ever officially offered.
@@TomBleecker is it true Bruce Lee and Muhammad Ali were going to have an actual ring match
@@simban00 This is the sort of thing that the Madison Avenue type marketing of the Saint Bruce brand has created. The idea of Bruce fighting Muhammad Ali in the ring is absolutely absurd.

Thanks for your support. Although I had initially planned to ignore this guy, the sheer number of people who wanted me to respond is why I did so. Richter certainly appears to have a lot of time on his hands. Hopefully, he'll find better ways to spend it.

My understanding is that she passed some time ago. As I recall, I learned of Amy's passing from her daughter.
Mr Bleeker, do you think Bruce died in his sleep like Betty said or do you think he was doing drugs with her and had an episode like on May 10 and died?
That's an excellent question, for which I honestly don't have an answer. The only one who would know for sure is Betty and those she may have shared this with in confidence.

Thank you. My best to you.
@TomBleecker Your welcome...Your book helped me see Bruce in his humanity... like he wanted to be remembered... " As a Human Being. " ...
Who cares what Bruce did in his personal life he was a true inspiration😮
Many people have cared about what Bruce did in his personal life, hence all the books and even a biographical film. He was far more than one-dimensional. As an aside, many people have learned from his mistakes.
@ I meant about the drug letters Not anything else
@@RonLeggett-q8u Many consider Bruce's heavy drug use to be his biggest mistake in life and the most important lesson that others can benefit from. The number of highly talented people who have died prematurely because of drugs and alcohol abuse is astounding. As an aside, it's entirely possible that his heavy cocaine use is what caused his fatal brain edema. Bruce was an entirely different person before he got into heavy drug use. A wise man once pointed out that drugs can be beneficial for achieving a short-term goal but will destroy a person seeking anything long term. Many have felt this is what Bruce was talking about when he said to Linda, "I don't know how much longer I can keep this up."
Much respect Mr. Bleecker!
Thank you. Respect back to you.
Glad to know you are a MAGA supporter...I was surprised since you come from the SoCal, showbiz world of ultra liberals. So glad you have the insights to rise above the Hollywood crowd and support Trump!! God bless America 🎉
That's sad. I am subscribed to both your RUclips channels. Anyways, did Bruce Lee (李小龙) look into Christianity? I know he said in an interview a couple or years before his death he implied he didn't believe in God but heard from two sources he was seeking the lord or had some interest about the time he died. He was such a seeker of truth and wisdom that I think he probably did...
During the years I was around Bruce, he didn't speak about religion or spirituality. He main focus was on his kung-fu and his acting career. I don't recall any major religious influences in his childhood, although I believe his mother was Catholic. With all the problems he was up against in the last years of his life, one would think that seeking a relationship with God would have been helpful.
Thanks very much Tom. This is one of the sources of my info: ruclips.net/video/sFIrCnYx5X0/видео.htmlsi=CnuDSZ0pc0BBwVn3 The other is an unconnected RUclips comment where the person claimed Bruce Lee was into Christianity or seeking the lord towards the end of his life and Linda had mentioned it. I can't recall where the comment is on RUclips from the millions of others.
There is no evidence Bruce took an interest in Christianity. The closest thing was some self help books that had a touch of biblical teachings worked in, like " Think and grow Rich". Bruce was more into agnostic type of spirituality like Zen or J Krishnamurtu, which tends to be quite rational and isn't into supernatural concepts or a Supreme Heavenly Father. Bruce believed in Faith as a self help concept that could help manifest personal desires, but not faith in the fundamentalist Christian sense. If anything, there are a few quotes out there with him saying things that would go against Christianity. He spoke against blindly believing doctrines and instead diving into truth from personal experience and exploration, definitely not blind faith. Also, when asked if he believed in God, he actually said "no". Instead of a Christian type of God, he resonated more with an impersonal Universal Power that he called the Tao.
@@TheFiestyhick I suppose one could say that Bruce's approach to established religions was similar to his approach to established martial arts styles and systems.
@TheFiestyhick As a lay Bruce Lee historian and a Christian I am not unaware of what you say. I even mentioned the interview where he was asked like twice if he believed in God or adhered to a religion and he said he didn't really believe. But my emphasis was more about the final months and weeks of his life! He has been widely reported to have had premonitions about his death and some commented he wasn't himself or was in his own world or distant, similarly.etc. John Saxon, Jackie Chan and others have mentioned this. Of course cannot claim he did become a Christian or believed in Jesus at the end but when you know your death his near or imminent, you will start thinking differently and evaluating what truly matters. Many people called out to our lord Jesus at the very end of their lives, or via near death experiences or visions...some many testimonies online Anyways, hope you made it, Mr Bruce Lee (李小龙) the absolute legend! He inspired me to learn Chinese language and history though not even Asian.
I also fought in certain martial arts clubs in 1974,75,76, and even I haven't got any photos to back my claims only who can back me up are the guys who were there and witnessed the fights I had who are I'm fortunate to say are still around today, there are millions of people in this world who went through what we went through and haven't got any evidence doesn't mean it never happened. Keep strong Mr Bleeker.
The foundational "old school" years were the best. Have you read the biography of Benny Urquidez? I think you'd enjoy it.
Hey Tom. Here is some evidence for the Bob Cook-Larry Hartsell comment: "I carried my shoes and walked across the mats barefoot, noting a new hole in the plaster wall where Bob Cook had kicked Larry Hartsell dangerously close to the plate glass mirrors." I found this in the Introduction to Unsettled Matters. This was before Bruce Lee had developed JKD, though.
That was an accurate statement. In the early years, our sparring was extremely physical. The statement you quoted from UM, however, is far different from me allegedly stating that Ed Parker had kicked Bob Cook into a wall. Cheers
Just listening to the comments about photos. My Dad was an enthusiastic photographer in the 60s so he had lots of photos but a lot of other folk come to me for pics of their own parents as they werent . he doesnt even have a pic of his own mother who passed away in the 50s so i totally get that point .
It's true. I have only one photo with my mother (well, two if I count a baby photo) and one with my father. Of all the celebrities I've been around over many decades, I have maybe a half-dozen photos with them.
@@TomBleecker i don’t think anyone under 30 even gets what a pallava it was even getting a photo developed in the 70s even …
I am a big fan of Bruce but probably before a movie Bruce took steroids as many actors do. The change was formidable, extremely low fat percentage and tremendous lats. But that doesn't detract one bit from his value. Tremendous world class athlete and ahead of his time.
great to see you tom! that AR guy is not a gentleman. people like him, are best left with out responding to, in my life experience. however, i completely agree with your response and wish you well out there. cheers to you, SIR, love from italy, robert
Hi Mr Bleeker, I hope you're doing well, I'm glad you responded to that guy called Kung Fu Genius,I was so shocked the way he portrayed you and made insults about you, First of all I want to make it clear that the only Truth about Bruce Lee came out of 2 People was Yourself with Unsettled Matters and Mathew Polly's book. Over the years many authors have written their versions of Bruce Lee's biography I read few including John Little and I found most of these guys painted a Goody, Goody picture of Bruce Lee, just like Bruce Lee's worshippers, the greatest thing on earth is having to face the truth and what you did in your wonderful book is excellent and totally told the truth, when we are young and we see a Kung Fu film for the very first time it's fantastic, in the early seventies around 1973 and 1974 Kung Fu the series with David Carradine hit our TV Screens and then about the same time Kung Fu films hit our cinemas, we never seen anything like that before and we used to play fight just like our new found heros , when we get older we get wiser it's then you realise Fantasy and reality, then as the years started flying to now it's now I realise about all this hype, but to certain people Bruce Lee is unbeatable and could have beaten anyone even now, I think Bruce Lee would have been still around to this day if he didn't insult other people, being cocky and arrogant and being a Drugie. I look up to other martial artists like Chuck Norris, Benny The Jet , Don The Dragon plus quite a few other decent legends, never heard anything negative about these martial artists over the last so many decades, for me they are my role models , I've got all your podcasts and other videos of your topics and please carry on with the fantastic stuff you're doing, unfortunately this is the world we're living in where we will get some Haters etc , Godbless and take care Mr Bleeker.
Agreed fully. I too had got into an argument with the "Kung Fu genius" a few months ago. It was regarding YOU. On his channel, I had commented that your book "Unsettled Matters" had revealed everything about Bruce Lee's drug abuse decades before the discovery of the so-called "Bruce Lee drug letters" between Bruce Lee and Bob Baker. He started arguing with me saying the same things you mentioned here; you didn't know the difference between Cortisone and anabolic steroids etcetera etcetera! He finally said that it was time to ignore me as I wasn't accepting his version. I retorted that it was time to UNSUBSCRIBE from his pathetic little channel and I did that! 👍
So, everyone has their own opinion and the right to debate and defend themselves. But Alex Richter has nothing to do with the crook Beerdy or anything close to it. His podcast is full of information and most of it concerns win chung. He gave his opinion on your book M.Bleeker and many share the same opinion on the information you relate. Of course, nothing can be taken as truth if it is not factual and that is where the problem with your story lies. We may or may not like Alex's way of criticizing your book...but it has nothing to do with your endorsement of Trump...besides, we don't care. It remains your word vs the facts...and the burden of proof is on you.
A question for you mr. Bleecker how many copies of um have you sold to date.
That's a difficult question, as the book was published nearly 30 years ago. When UM was first published, there was no internet to speak of and no "print-on-demand" (POD) through publishers like Amazon, which is now the biggest bookstore in the world. The first printing of UM was done on a web press, and as I recall, the printers ran a 10,000 copy run. What I can tell you is that no author makes a living writing Bruce Lee books, which has a limited audience, which is probably why I haven't kept track over the years.
Ok thanks for the reply.
Is Alex a Trump hater, well i like Trump and im not Even american im from Danmark, anyway i read your book 25 years ago and found it very interresting it was a real page turner, i enjoyed it but it also made me sad in places, it really stood out from other books.thank you

Hello Tom, I think there is the wrong impression here Alex Richter is a great guy and wing Chun instructor. He nor I look at Bruce as a " God" there is only one God and he art in heaven. Alex & myself admire Bruce and his works & teaching's as a martial artist and that's it ,he just like the facts he also de- bunks people like 'Breedy" he dont make money from you tube videos. So we and some other are not fan boys or fan girls. Alex just wants the facts and the proof there of. There is too much mis- information on Bruce as it is.
Of the many people who have reviewed UM, none of them has reached anywhere near the level of disrespect and outright character assassination that was publicly displayed by Richter. As an aside, I understand I'm not the first person he has publicly attacked. Anyway, none of what is contained is misinformation simply because I reject Richter's demands that I present proof to him. I think I explained my position in this video. Thanks for your comments.
@@TomBleecker We were speaking of belief; beliefs and conditioning. All belief possibly could be said to be the result of "some" conditioning. Thus, the study of history is simply the study of one belief system deposing another, and so on and so on... A psychologically tested belief of our time is that the central nervous system, which feeds its impulses directly to the brain, conscious and subconscious, is unable to discern between the real, and the vividly imagined experience. There is a difference, and most of us believe there is -am I being clear? For to examine these concepts requires tremendous energy and discipline. To experience the now, without preconception or beliefs, to allow the unknown to occur and to occur, requires clarity. And where there is clarity there is no choice. And where there is choice, there is misery. And why should anyone listen to me? Why should I speak, since I know nothing?
