    What is very strange about the whole thing is that when Betty found Bruce unconscious she didn't call the ambulance, she called Raymond Chow. Chow came and he also didn't call the ambulance, instead he called his personal doctor. It took his doctor to call the ambulance and that was an hour after Betty had found Bruce.
    I always thought that was very strange. Why would you call your personal doctor and not the ambulance, especially given the significant person that Bruce was? It's not a commonsense approach to dealing with someone who cannot be woken up.
    That always seemed suspicious to me, it was a if Betty and Chow wanted to use the hospital as the very last resort, as if they had something to hide. People don't seem to focus on that much, that irregularity in how they dealt with the situation.

    • @TomBleecker
      @TomBleecker  2 года назад +17

      You make a good point in "Why would you call your personal doctor and not the ambulance, especially given the significant person that Bruce was?" Betty definitely did not want the media to report in the morning papers that Bruce Lee was found dead in her apartment, let alone her bed. Chow didn't want to see those headlines either. Betty panicked, which is why she called Chow, to ask him what to do. The fact that Bruce had been dead for some time is also why he wasn't taken to Baptist Hospital, which was much closer than Queen Elizabeth Hospital and why both Linda and Chow lied to the media that night and stated that Bruce had died at home while walking in the garden with Linda. This isn't to say there wasn't foul play. But if there was and Betty and Chow knew about it, neither one would have wanted Bruce to die in Betty's apartment. Thanks for your post.

      @ray h. It's freaky and rare but it can happen. We saw it recently occur on Alex Balwin's Rust movie set. In the case of Bruce, there was a lot going on behind the scenes, such as the links between him and the Triads associated with Golden Harvest and then there was talk of him leaving Chow's studio and his attempts to get money from him that was owed to him. What made Bruce's death suspicious is the manner in which medical help was called, it's not a common protocol, especially with someone of Bruce's celebrity. There was a lot of coverup's going on around his death an ultimately things didn't occur in the manner a person would usually die of natural causes. A lot of it is discussed in Tom's book but drawing my own hypothesis here from what Tom discusses as a possibility. Would I say his death was definitely foul play? No, but what I am saying is that how Chow and Betty handled it was controversial and suspect to say the least and when you take those steps you're going to draw suspicion to yourself, right or wrong.

I watched Game of Death again the other day and thought it was sick how Chow used the real footage from the funeral and worst of all the whole story of some syndicate trying to extort him with a join us or die attitude just mirrors how the Triads were probably leaning on him. I mainly believe once Chow and cohorts new Bruce was going to be a star in Hollywood and leave the Hong Kong film industry after Enter the Dragons success they took it upon themselves with the attitude if we can't make money from him then no one will.

Now I'm full circle again, and with all the stakes,financially, that were in play,man It Couldn't be any other way. Bruce wanted to make It "Big Time" but payed the price for It "Big Time"

    • @TomBleecker
      @TomBleecker  Год назад +11

      Personally, I don't understand the reasoning behind Matthew Polly's theory that heatstroke is what killed Bruce Lee. The problem boils down to a simple question, which is when was this heatstroke supposed to have occurred? Was it when Bruce was at his air-conditioned home on Cumberland Road in the morning talking with Raymond Chow? Or did the heatstroke set in when Bruce was driving with Raymond to Betty's in Raymond's air-conditioned Rolls Royce? Or was Bruce beset with heatstroke over the several hours he sat in Betty's air-conditioned apartment before lying down in her bedroom to rest? As an aside, Raymond was in Bruce's company during all three of these settings, and he didn't suffer heatstroke.

      Of course Brandon was offed. Real bullets don't magically walk into prop guns and find the latest up and coming hot action star that coincidentally also happened to be the son of one of the most powerful and influential human beings known to man. Can't have the offspring of Bruce Lee potentially dominating the action movie scene for possibly many years in corrupt and racist Hollywood.
      As for Bruce, yeah foul play is definitely possible. Also possible is overwork and heatstroke due to major dehydration (which also leads to kidney failure) as potential reasons as offered up by Matthew Polly and John Little. It could very well also be that simple. Well, only God and Bruce knows. Very interesting that the doctors didn't test for a whole range of - at least - known poisons or their constituents to rule them out. Also very interesting that they only found weed in his system and that his blood work wasn't apparently tested for other narcotics despite - evidently that little tidbit being unknown to the whole world for damn near 50 yrs - that Bruce was supposedly abusing every illegal drug known to man at the time like some Chinese Tony Montana. I have my own doubts about that because it wouldn't take 50 years plus for this miraculous knowledge to surface. You just can't keep something that damning to a man like Bruce Lee's reputation quiet on all fronts for that long. It's ridiculous. None of his friends and colleagues mentioned anything about it in print or on film. I guess they must all have been paid off to keep it quiet as some trolls would say. I'm just waiting on the new set of miraculous letters to surface another 50 silent years later that exposes his addiction to prostitutes supplied by Kareem Abdul Jabbar lol

      However your statement about Hollywood are my sentiments exactly. Hollywood is powerful and Bruce wanted to create Concorde over there, that would have been fierce competition for big H and they would have seen him as a threat.

She said for a big star at the time it was strange that they'd allow all this dirty laundry to get aired. The Hong Kong film industry was similar to the Hollywood film industry when it came to bloodthirsty news reporters looking for a scoop. Even the top actors in Hollywood have had a difficult time staying under the radar of the media. In Hong Kong the media is called the "mosquito press." Of course, at times Bruce was anything but discreet about his activities. In fairness, Bruce didn't have anywhere near the number and intensity of indiscretions that the media claimed he had. Therefore I always felt his hashish not his food, not his drinks, that he was protecting but both times they found hash in his system, the hash was Poisened. I never was 100% certain. But after Brandon that never happened before not with James Cagney ( real bullets) not with Sylvester Stallone, bullets flying but after Brandon I was certain! Oh well. Our Loss. So Sad! Hi Tom, regarding the autopsy photos, I read years ago that where cause of death is suspected as a brain anomaly, the pathologist will look at the brain, for any obvious signs.
    To do this, they effectively peel away the face/scalp and open the skull.
    The process enables them to pull the skin back after brain inspection (and make the deceased reasonably presentable for an open casket).

A great read and I recommend anyone with an open mind read Unsettled Matters. As a former journalist, I admire anyone who pursues the truth through interviews and research. IT gives the world another dimension of Bruce Lee despite some people wanting to propogate this legend status. An incredible athlete but fallible person. The main thoroughfare of Greenwich Village, Bleecker Street, was actually named after my family. Several generations ago, my great-grandfather owned a large farm in that area of New York. And the frontage road of that farm was a dirt road, and when the farm was torn down when Greenwich Village was growing, the town's city council decided to pave that dirt road and called it Bleecker Street. As an aside, there is now a successful film company called Bleecker Street. You are correct that Way of the Dragon was shot in Italy and the sound stages of Golden Harvest. Regarding the final fight scene, filming around the Colosseum was strictly forbidden, and the few scenes actually filmed there were quickly shot without the knowledge of the Roman authorities.

And they know a million and one ways to do somebody in. And they ripped his family off like you wouldn’t believe. What can you do when the power is on their side. I don't believe Bruce had enemies any more than Mike Tyson, Elvis, or other entertainers who suddenly have a substantial financial draw. Second, no one ripped off Bruce's family. When he died, he was essentially broke, although it was possible that he would be owed a substantial amount of money if "Enter the Dragon" did well at the box office, which is what happened. After Bruce died, his widow Linda was his sole heir, and after negotiating with Raymond Chow, the two agreed on a financial settlement that was acceptable to Linda. With regard to the cause of Bruce's death, we'll probably never know, although topping the list these days is the disclosure that he was heavily into cocaine and other drugs that in all likelihood severely compromised his health.

      @@TomBleecker Thank you for your response! The reason I rank the first 3 ahead of "Enter The Dragon" is because the story lines are much tighter, which included both comedy and charm, and because it is truly Bruce in his unbelievable fight performances. The first 3 had Bruce as a very important moral and philosophical societal hero. Which of course tuned out to be ultimately important for Chinese history and culture ever since these first 3 films were release there in China. I think the first 3 movies laid the groundwork for Bruce's over the top fight scene in "Enter The Dragon".

      @@JimmyPlato1 It appears that you are comparing Bruce's films with one another and not comparing them to any other films. The attraction of all four of Bruce's films was his fight scenes. By the way, Bruce's films were never released in China.

      @@TomBleecker Well there is no doubt that "Enter The Dragon" was a much bigger production. But notice how vital and important the Asian actors were in the first 3 Bruce films. In contrast, Jim Kelly and John Saxon semi dominated "Enter The Dragon", and the Asian actors were not really all that important (with the exception being the main villain Han). I think this is one of the reasons ETD goes down just a little bit when it compares to the first 3. As great as the fight scene with the wooden pole in Bruce's hands in ETD was, I think Bruce kicking the crap out of the entire Japanese school in "Fist Of Fury" was absolutely awesome, and maybe even a slightly better fight scene than the great ETD one was. And I did not know that the first 3 were released in Hong Kong only.

ETD was certainly a blockbuster film and to this day is the gold standard of MA films. Have you watched any of Toshiro Mifune's Samauri films? While watching the Chinese Connection aka( Fists of Fury). I don’t know if it’s ever been discussed before? Maybe this is silly. But it’s almost like Bruce is speaking from beyond. his teacher whom he adored dies mysteriously? Bruce is frantic. As he asks what caused teachers death? They tell him pneumonia and Chen ( Bruce Lee) says and you expect me to believe that. He was in perfect health, there was nothing wrong with him. Now what really killed him? Then Chen goes out to avenge his death and what does he find out? That his teacher was poisoned. His instincts were correct. Now 1973 for the second time in a few months, Bruce passes out, in a coma and near death , but this time doesn’t survive. The question is asked, what did he die from ?? Equagesic ( an aspirin?) and you expect me to believe that! As if someone wanted to do away with Bruce and took the idea from his own movie. Just a thought it’s eerily similar. If someone wanted to do away with Bruce Lee slowly poisoning his hashish would’ve been one way. Somewhat like when the mob sends a fish to someone’s house, to tell them he sleeps with the fishes. I don’t have an inkling as to what happened to Bruce Lee, but I do find it highly suspicious that a physical specimen like Bruce Lee could die on his own for no reason whatsoever! Many of Bruce’s close friends often said that Bruce told them the doctors that saw him often told him he has “a body of an 18 years old” and that he was such a physical specimen other men wished they could be just like him.
    The way Bruce looks in Enter the Dragon was also off. He looks unhealthily too thin, unlike the way he looks in other movies. The explanation that they gave to explain his death was also weak and suspicious, that he died of bad interactions between the food that he ate and the pain medicine that he took always seems highly suspicious to me and just doesn’t add up for me. I don’t know what happened to Bruce, but I definitely wouldn’t rule out foulplay as a possible cause for his death. There were probably some people back then that wanted him dead.

    As a kid I saw ETD in 75 and quickly became a fan for life as many and collected everything I could find. Every time I hear any medical reason for his death substantiated, they never were fully explained by positive facts or science to finally pin it down. It's always been, allergic to pain killer, the removal of sweat glands (if that actually occurred), epilepsy history, even death punch. Then came the Baker letters recently of all his drug use that made me think, maybe he just OD'ed. Betty as old as she is now was there, the last to see him and knows. Chow is gone but he had to tell someone close to him. There is someone out there that knows what exactly happened to him. To me there is more physical evidence proving murder that makes sense than any natural physical hypothesis since 73.

    Bruce Lee's cause of death never made sense until the discovery of the drug letters and his cocaine use that resulted in weight loss and cerebral edema. Been a fan since 1972.

      While Bruce's use of cocaine could well have contributed to his weight loss, cocaine has never been known to cause brain edema. Thanks for your post.

      @@TomBleecker cocaine compromises the BBB and definitely is responsible for cerebral edema according to science literature. Easy to research.

      @@Drivehead103 Along with a highly credentialed medical team, I researched Bruce's death in detail that included looking over all his medical records, lab reports, and autopsy. In addition, Dr. Richard Hunter, an esteemed medical examiner, ruled that Bruce's death was caused by cortisone abuse. I can assure you that Bruce's use of cocaine played no part in his death.

      @@TomBleecker I was about to buy into the steroid cause of death but my common sense told me that many athletes used steroids the same way without dying. Show me a list of other athletes that have died from steroid used to control inflammation. Steroid use causing cerebral edema is not something I have looked into but I will check it out. Cocaine acting on the blood-brain barrier still seems to be a more likely reason.

      @@Drivehead103 Are you referencing anabolic steroids or cortisone as a corticosteroid? I'm assuming that latter. An athlete overusing cortisone and not under the care of a physician is at risk of serious health problems, including death. I strongly suggest watching the Bruce Lee segment on the TV show "Autopsy" that stars renowned medical examiner Dr. Richard Hunter. Thanks for your post.
