TC-Helicon - How to Calibrate VoiceTone Singles, Mic Mechanic & Harmony Singer

- Occasionally, VoiceTone knobs (pots) need to be re-calibrated. Craig shows you how.
This fix, for knobs that choose the wrong key or style, applies to:
VoiceTone C1, D1, E1, H1, R1, T1, X1, Mic Mechanic and Harmony Singer.
For 2 switch VoiceTone products, like Harmony G-XT, Synth, Correct XT, Create XT and VoiceDoubler, the process is similar. Check out this FAQ for specifics:

Exactly my experience. The bottom 3 keys were a half-step out. This fixed it easily.

it worked !!!!! Thanks !!!! I have a Harmony Singer, and it was doing same harmony on 2 different adjacent harmony selections. Plus several others were one notch off.

This is great.. Solved the problem with my HS.. Now all I need to find out is why the guitar signal is too hot for it.. Its starting to distort with the guitars preamp only set to half way.. No issues when plugged directly into the desk though.. Weird.

That link no longer works. Any chance of updating it? I have a 2024 T1 and R1, both of which only have 2 pots. When calibrating, the top-right LED never goes red, and the central LED doesn't flash after calibrating the 2nd pot. Is that correct? Also, I assume there's no way to calibrate the mic gain pot on the side of the pedal?
Thanks for the tip, my H1 had the flashing LED out of the box, I thought it was faulty so I did the pot calibration and it's working!
My Tc Helicon C1 is at a constant red LED at the top right and the controls on it don’t work. But it is able to pick up my microphone. How do I fix this?

I've got two of the Voicetone H1 units which worked beautifully and then went wonky!! I followed your instructions and it fixed one of the units. With the other one, when I hold down the foot switch and plug in the power, the red light does not flicker. Tried these steps a few times, with no response. Can you please let me know whats happening? I use these units for live gigs and I'll be needing them in the next couple of weeks. Cheers

For Singles, yes. How about for VoiceTone Create XT and Harmony-G XT ? Do these models also require calibration in time?
Had this mode come on by accident for the first time just before a show hahah - had to not use the pedal. Nice sounding echoes TBH - Easy to use.
My TC helicon H1 is just drop dead, no lights in the power or the LED in the middle. I tried calibrating it and the lights do work the same way as shown in the video but once I finish the process and try to turn it on it doesn't work, it's the same again, dead.

I bought heliconvoicetone C1 I did as you say, but now I can't go back to normal mode it doesn't emit sound and the light always turns green the one above ??? how do i exit the adjustment mode?

Hi - the red light at the top right of my unit is constantly red whenever power is connected - can you help? It's not working at all and the when I plug in with USB to try update firmware it can't find it.
What does it mean when my power light stays red the whole time? The fx don't seem to work now.. but I got them working once. That time the light was green.. now it just stays red n no fx

My TC Helicon C1 Hardtune worked great for 3 gigs, then whamo, the foot
switch quit working, even though I put it on top of my keyboard and
never used it on the ground. I babied it, took care of it and it
failed, even though I did not damage it in any way.
I e-mailed Musician Friend, and they said since it was past 45 days, I
had to go to the manufacturer to get it fixed.
Frustrating to have to do that just like at Walmart. I quit buying
electronics from Walmart because I had to return electronic items to the
manufacturer, and who knows what results you get from them.
To be honest, I expected a lot more from Musician Friend. I shop with
them because of their reputation of having excellent customer service,
and begged them to take it back, but they refused.
Musician Friend did honor their agreement, but I am still disappointed
in them. It would cost them almost nothing to take back the old one and
send me a new unit, but I guess the profit they save by refusing my
request is more important than the thousands I was planning on spending
with them in the future.
Amazon is the way to go for customer service, not Musicians Friend.
Unfortunately the various retailers have their own policies that we don't control. Hopefully our support guys were able to sort you out!
Thank you very much. I bought one 5 years ago, it was really helpful. I sole to my friend because i was moved, then I bought one of the same product from BBay from USA. It is far different from the first one. Please brother. The first one i bought in Auckland NZ. Is there a different in this TC-Helicon C1 hardtune and correction. I prefer the first one. The calibration process in all of the singles products should be the same. The knobs are labeled differently, but if you follow the order in the video it is supposed to work. If you can't get it going, I'd try support. support.tc-helicon.com/tickets/new
Can I use a mic in front of the guitar amp as the input for pitch correction? And does the input have to have an instrument-out to work?
This doesn't work with my Mic Mechanic 2 any help?

1.While powering on the unit, press and hold "Warmth" and "Pitch" buttons, you will see the "Adaptive" light is on.
2.Turn the Shape knob to the furthest LEFT position that it will travel and press "Adaptive". It should start to flash.
3.Turn the Shape knob to the furthest RIGHT position that it will travel and press "Adaptive" again.
4."Adaptive" should stay on and the second Adaptive button should light.
5.Repeat steps 2+3 with the "Dynamics" knob and second Adaptive button.
6.Both adaptive buttons should stay on and Display should light.
7.Repeat steps 2+3 with the "Pitch" knob and "Display" button.
The regular display should kick in a few seconds after completing the process.
i have a tc helicon H1, and my question is, if the song is in minor key what will i do? All the key is in major,. Hope you can help me,.. Thanks
The major and minor keys have a consistent offset as you go around the musical scale. So, if a song is in A minor, your major key would be C. Each minor key is 3 semitones below its corresponding major key. If you play guitar, think of it like this: If you're playing on the 8th fret as the first note of a major key, and you wish to know where the minor key is, just go down three frets to the 5th fret and there you have it.
After switching toff/on with foot switch like 5-6 times it stops working while the light is still on. I take tge chord out put it back on , it starts working then after switching on/off 5-6 times it stops working again. What can I do to get it working again? Please help
I just purchased mine and its on the way. I plan on connecting my XLR mic to this pedal to record through my Focus rite scarlett interface. What other cable will I need to connect my pedal to my interface?
You'll need one more XLR cable. It goes Mic --> XLR cable --> TC-H Pedal --> XLR cable --> Scarlett.

I bought a new TC Helicon H-1.
When I plug it in, it sounds microphone and hum. Even when the pedal is not activated.When I disconnect the microphone cable, the hum stops.
I use XLR connectors and microphone cables.
Everything is properly connected.
What could be causing it.
I have same problem with my H1.
So just to lessen the hum, I just lower down the volume control at side of the H1 :(

Hello I also have a voicetone double not the d1 but the older one I believe..and it won't boot up when plugged in I get an red 88 for a few seconds then it shuts off. any idea what this is and how to fix it??
Hmm, that might indicate that the power supply has failed, or perhaps something internal. I'd get in touch with support, since they can help out with replacement parts and/or repair if required.

is it possible, that it has to do with the interface or something on the computer?
You might just need to do a hard reset on the pedal, and a firmware update in VoiceSupport 2. If the issue persists after that, our tech support team can help you out!
Just purchased this. My guitar won't play (amplify) when plugged into H1 (either side) even though mic works through amp. Why is that?
4catsgg The H1 is just a buffered bypass and doesn't do anything to the signal. What are you connecting the guitar output to?

Hi...I own 3 Mic Mechanics...My band wants to tune down from standard A=440hz to A=432hz...is there any way to adjust the pitch correction function on the Mic Mechanic?

TC-Helicon Mic Mechanic doesn't have any adjustments to the reference pitch. They offer that on their more complex (and expensive) devices.
The problem with my pedal is that it shuts off by itself in the middle of me singing and it's annoying, I step on the switch and it starts again but then it shuts off after a couple minutes, what do I do?

Turn off the Mic Control function on the pedal.
wonder if this is going to be like my Voice Live Play GTX? i have had it for like 3 years and love it but they stopped having any updates or patches for the firmware a year and a half ago and sorta upsetting since there are so many other users out there that use this pedal and it was not chump change since i bought the switch 3 and the microphone all at once. great unit but poor software support on Tc-Helicons side? still for the most i use my Harmony Gtx and Harmony G more then the vlp gtx since they stopped releasing updates. last one was i think the one that added a little extra time to the looper, but user presets havn't had any updates since shortly after it came out? not knocking TC-Helicon they make some great equipment just try to stay away from the software versions and stick with the hardware only style, i have had to reset the VLP a couple times now do to acting up but never had any issues out of the harmony gtx and harmony g since purchased ! Still love my TC-Helicon gear but think i will stay away from this line of pedals seems to be too many people posting about all the issues they are having with this line and that sucks cause i always like to stay up to date with my pedals :( really want the Tc Helicon Voicelive 3 but just a little to much to throw out this time in life!
VoiceLive Play GTX is no longer in development, so you won't see any feature updates for that product. It's very common for any company to not develop for hardware
that they've discontinued.

+Gordon Hazell Hmm, if the calibration is off you could actually be in the wrong key. When the knob is out of calibration, it could be setting to the key adjacent to the one you've selected. If you're using guitar and have it in Auto, then it's less likely, but still worth a calibration.
Okay. It is slow in changing to the next note. And sometimes giving a minor rather than the major. Like in the case of me playing the GDGDG chord. Not sure why.
I'll go ahead and calibrate. Won't hurt.
+Gordon Hazell There's always some lag in changing harmony notes if you're changing guitar chords at the same time. What we find is that in clutch moments you can learn to "push" the chord slightly in order to make the harmony hit on time. If you use set key/scale that doesn't apply. It's only when you're using an instrument and we have to figure out the chord you just played.
For major/minor, it's crucial that the 3rd is heard clearly in the voicing. Sometimes a differently voiced chord can work better. It's not a totally perfect system for sure, but you'll probably find that you can work around its shortcomings depending on the situation/song.
+TC-Helicon Okay. So what I have isn't a calibration problem then. What about that muddy wobbly sound it gives. And when I play the guitar it harmonizes the guitar sound even when I don't sing in the mic.
hey after having plugged a guitar though the "instrument through" in/out puts, B to G auto correct perfectly, but F# to C all have issues with the scale steps and sounds like its glitching.

why should you have to do this?
AxelNotHuman The potentiometers in the product will slightly change their output voltage range over time, so re-calibration helps the unit re-learn where the end points are.
