FAQs How long should I leave it in for? Really depends on the ratio you’ve mixed, your hair consistency etc. It’s all trial and error but keep an eye on it. Start off with just a drop of dye and lots of conditioner! Will it go green? Not if you rinse it out in time! You can see where I was taking ages with the brush on the first section of Hair I did it went slightly green but that’s because I was taking my time for video purposes. Also the green does wash out! What if my hair is orange and blonde? Start off with the darkest parts first. They will take longer to develop. If you have any really blonde bits I’d recommend leaving it or washing it all in last minute before rinsing. Or use a more purple coloured mixture otherwise the blonde may go green. As long as you keep an eye on the colour you should be fine. Can I use any blue dye? Yes. As long as you dilute it with conditioner.
I know this video is like 3 years old but thanks so much for making it, I enjoyed my orange hair for 2 weeks but now i wanna tone it, and you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find nice easy info like this. I wish I found it sooner!
I had some manic panic blue left over from dying my daughter hair and some cheap conditioner made it a super light blue/purple and thanks to that no more brass/orange I’m so happy would have never thought to do this until watching this video, amazing!!Thank you so much girlie!!!
Aw thats great! Definitely worth a shot as it washes out gradually anyway! Mind you I found once I'd done it once it stayed more blonde and never really went orange again :) x
I was thinking to be brave and go with blue box-dye cuz so tired of doing research for orange hair solution and found this. Yes!!! Thank you so much for sharing 🙏 Now I will go on and do this with confidence ☺️
This is gorgeous! I love how it doesn't damage your hair either (if anything, it conditions it). And you can make it once and store for later. Just gotta make sure not to add too much of the dye. Thanks for the simple tutorial!
My hair looks exactly like this so I'm really happy I came across this video. I didn't wanna bleach it again and using a lil amount surely won't damage it. Thanks girl 😄👍
This is the best video I’ve seen so far. I just recently got my hair dyed two days ago and it turned out a really orange/yellow color which is not what I wanted, so for the past few days I’ve been looking on how to tone the orange into an ashy color, and your end result was exactly what I was looking for. The ingredients were so simple and I’ve been reading your comments and it looks like other people are pretty happy with their end result too. I’m definitely going to try this. Thankyou xx
I just tried this and it’s an absolute game changer! I have pale cool tone skin and have naturally ashy brown hair and I’ve recently gone back to brunette from blonde so had this terrible brassy/red tone come through which looked absolutely horrible one me. For the first time in 20 something years my hair is as close to my natural colour as ever thanks to this tip!!! Sooooo happy :) Thank you xx
I'm really excited to try this out! I've been trying to find different ways to get my hair less brassy without having to pay an arm and a leg with product's that don't even work usually! I have blue and purple hair dye that I've been wanting to attempt to use with conditioner as a toner. I'm glad I found this video to see how exactly it's done! Thank you!
I swear you’re a life saver I messed up today and my hair gone orange in disgusting way I saw your video and I was hoping to be saved and guess what You saved me 😅 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Love from uk
You have given me hope, LOL. I just did a home bleach highlights job and it is ORANGE. Luckily I have some Poseidon Arctic Fox color to use over it, and their diluter (I think I could have just used the much cheaper Suave white conditioner, tbh). Wish me luck!
I'm so glad I found this video,I used a live purple dye which actually looked pink in the tub but it has toned down my yellow hair so much! Thankyou 😀😀😀
Overall it went well but you have one green streak. It’s because I guess you had 1 streak there that was lifted to yellow. My advice is to mix a tiny bit of violet
Yes I do this. Mix a normal amount of shampoo with a teaspoon of dye, mix til dark blue and then shampoo my dry hair with it like it hair dye and let it sit for 2 minutes. Perfect ashey brown hair without the buildup many purple shampoos have.
I just want to say that I think you saved my life. I'm going to try it soon maybe tomorrow and hope that it's enough to take my brassy ugly orange color out of my hair and make it more ashy
i bleach my hair yesterday and it turned orange gold . I saw your video this morning and i went buy my live xxl blue now im waiting to see the results.
Hi , i wash my hair and now is more natural . The blue dye covered most of the orange . ( you are my savior ) .now i need to buy a violet to neutralize the yellow gold tones . I hope it works
i use that but it didint work i think my hair is not light enough . The problem is that is yellow , i saw some girls using manic panic ultra violet and it works so im gonna try that
I love you. I went to an ebony store today and was about to leave with the powder that lightens my hair 7 shades quickly but the ladies there told me to change it out for a different pack .. knowing my better judgement I did it ... and my hair turned out ORANGE AFFFF I was pissed cos I know they did this on purpose !! NOW that I have your recipe I’m thinking “I’m go in there tomorrow and watch their jaws hit the roof” so they can smell that bs on their lips ! Lol
It worked on the ends of my hair not on the top, did again but left it on for abit longer on top. apart from you could see a hint of blue when that washed out it never really went back to the bright orange it was so I’d say it worked well thankyou 😄
that hair was probably not as orange as the rest of her hair so it shows the blue more. I have uneven blonde right now (some hairs are lighter) so I'll have to be careful and avoid my light/non-brassy hair when doing this
Can I apply blue hair directly over the orange? Must I use the conditioner? I want my orange to completely blend into my black hair so don't mind it going dark
I recently used a bleach spray on my naturally dark brown/raven hair and the colour looks very reddish in the daylight - this is absolutely not what I wanted. Can I still use blue dye and conditioner to get rid of the brassiness? And if so, how long do I leave it on for?
I’m really scared that it would turn up green on some parts lol xD i don’t really mind the color, but i work in a formal enviroment. What do you recomend for avoiding that? Mixing it with purple or washing it purple first?
only just found this video...mine is a mixture of blondes and redish copper orange..would this work for me ? as don't want to risk more chemicals than nessasery also would like to finally have ice white and dark brown balarge once it's more cooperating lol x
Tina Peanuts hey! Blonde works best with purple dye and orange works best with blue, I'd get a dye which is a purple blue live and various other brands do them! Best to apply to the darkest areas first then blend up to the blonder bits otherwise you'll end up with purple hair and the rest just toned ☺️ x
Fluent In Felicity thanks so much hun 😘your videos make so much easier to follow than some others I've subbed liked etc and will give it a try although any colour would be better than this ...I look like a paint chart 😂😂😂x
No problem hope I've helped somehow! Don't stress hun I've been there so many times haha! Always end up dying it dark brown! Let me know how you get on :) x
Definalty helped hun and lol me to my kids are like mum how many times ya gonna do this to ya self 😂😂and I normally do same thing and safely hide it under dark colour haha and will do babe xx
Hi thanks for the video I have black hair and I bleached the ends of my hair and it's more of a orange ginger brassy colour now. Would u recommend the blue or purple. I was thinking the purple alone :/
Tia Ly if it's more orange I'd go for blue but the best thing you can do is get blue and purple and mix it just to add that slight bluer tint. purple has a lot more pink in which can make it more of a pink orange colour, if your hair is quite light and more yellow the purple should do it xx
Hi, thank you for responding I will try this. As u did I saw a few green tints in ur hair? Is this normal and will it gradually go greener as it fades? My hair is exactly like yours
Tia Ly no thats only where I left it in too long on that side, you can see that's where I first applied it with the brush then ended up using my hands to apply it quicker lol. I make my mixture quite coloured so I only have to leave it on a few minutes and just wasn't quick enough applying for the sake of the video lol. but no it won't go more green as the dye fades out xx
Thank you soooooosoooo much! I thought I had to use toner with developer only to find out that it doesn't work(plus more damage to my hair). I researched online for this method but wasn't sure if it would work but now I do :D You are awsomee
+Soo whoa aww glad I could help! I've always done it this way didn't realise people did it another way lol! Definitely better for your hair you're getting in a deep condition too 😍
Because its in a tube with a lid I just use the same dye rather than buying a new one each time you can just use it til it runs out, I tend to get a sealable pot and mix it in there and keep a stock for future use if it even needs it :)
Fluent In Felicity hi!! I did it already and it worked! My brassy hair turned out more of an ash blonde shade. Tho I need to tone it more since I have thick hair lol thank you so much!!
Great videa, glad it worked for you. My hair might have been too porous. The lighter parts turned completely blue, so now it is blue, orange, yellow and white. LOLOh well, try again!
Michelle Daugherty yeah it's difficult to tell at first but once you get the right consistency it gets easier! Also try a bit of washing up liquid and leave it in a few mins blue should come out a lot more x
@@rachelv9927 did you start with orange hair or yellow hair? Mixing a blue color to yellow creates green hues, if you start with more yellow brassy color you use violet/purple, if you have more orange brassy hair then you use a more blue color.
mona ll it was a little orange. Then I used the toner and made it more yellow. I just ended up giving up and coloring it purple lol I couldn’t figure it out. And didn’t want to waste more money.
Caroline J. Use a color wheel to figure out what color you want to cancel out. For example, if you have brown hair with lots of orange in it you will want to use a blue dye because it is the opposite of orange on a color wheel. If you have blonde hair and you want to get rid of yellow try using a purple dye to cancel it out. If you have both, mix blue and purple dye together. Or you could use a manic panic color that is a blueish purple. Hope that helps! :)
Sana Zeeshan between 1 and 3 weeks. you can always make a big batch and put it. in a container then apply it sort of once a week like a conditioner :) x
depends on the consistency really, id try leaving it for 5 minutes, but keep an eye out if it starts to turn blue/green, spread out your hair between your hands and you should be able to see it. Leave it on a bit longer if necessary :)
So I tried it with Splat Blue Envy and it does work but, I had to do it a couple times to get the right consistency for it to actually change my hair color. My orange hair wasn't as light as the girl in the video's, probably a shade or 2 darker but it did turn ashy (:

Should you wash it out directly after you are done with dying? Or wait some minutes?
Did you use the developer that came with the box dye? Tnx😊
Finally a short and intelligent video on how to correct brassy hair!!!
Yes! instead of going into a big rant about colour theory, this goes straight to the point and shows exactly what to do! Cheers
Thank you the 1st time i see someone trying to tone orange hair.
Carrissa Renteria no problem 😘

Fluent In Felicity hey i have dyed my hair its brown but looks brassy because i used a lighter brown. will this work xzx
sarah ulhaque it should still tone it yes :) let me know how you get on
I used the Blue black hair dye tone method and it worked amazing. Going to add in this PURPLE next time for some
Violet tone so it’s not so green

omg god I left it in too long and it made my hair green LOL fuck me
Gabby Peaches lmao literally me
Mine has yellow and orange. Purple shampoo helped with the blond but not orange, now this turned my orange gray & yellow hair turned green!

can i use blue - black hair dye? i dont have just blue where i live
I think it turned out so pretty ❤
First off, this is brilliant!! Sooo gonna try it.
And second, your eyes are amaaaaazing
ChomperGirl666 awesome let me know how it goes! aw thanks 😘
Did you add a developer? Or only the blue color ?
Just watched this video! Thanks so much for making it, gunna give it a go now! I'm desperate to get rid of the yellow tones 😅
Whattttt this is amazing! Deffo going to be doing this as I'm just about to balayage my hair!
Deffo worth it, the only thing I've tried that actually works and I've tried a lot of stuff 😂
Oh thank god for coming across this video. Now I can fix my orange wig lookin hair lol thanks for sharing!!
Have just tried This and it works!! Thank you for sharing
Kueta Lata no problem glad it worked :) x
Watching this in 2018. The beauty store where I got my Violet dye suggested I could use a 6% vol developer. Would that work just as fine?
This video is really helpful
My hair is all over orange after hair dye remover and bleaching, going to try this today as my last option
+Shannon Reynolds how did it go?? X
It worked on the ends of my hair not on the top, did again but left it on for abit longer on top. apart from you could see a hint of blue when that washed out it never really went back to the bright orange it was so I’d say it worked well thankyou 😄
Question: does the conditioner have to be white? What exactly is 'white' conditioner? Thanks so much.
Just conditioner and blue colour? For How long ?
But you have a big clump of blue hair over your left shoulder? (Side with shower curtain... My right, your left)
that hair was probably not as orange as the rest of her hair so it shows the blue more. I have uneven blonde right now (some hairs are lighter) so I'll have to be careful and avoid my light/non-brassy hair when doing this
thank you for sharing this!
No problem :)
Omg! So glad I found you. I'm going to defo give it a ago
When u wash it out, do you use any shampoo or just conditioner again? Please reply thanku so much!:)
this was so good girl omg!!!!
Great video, tempted to try as nothing works with my hair and they always come out yellow/orange.
definitely worth a go, it'll eventually wash out anyway!
Can I apply blue hair directly over the orange? Must I use the conditioner? I want my orange to completely blend into my black hair so don't mind it going dark
So you don’t use the developer at all? Just the dye? Xx
@Charlotte Elizabeth A dye with no developer should be used, like this one pictured here, or any similar (direct) dye :)
It didn't work on me. I did use colour run remover a week ago so it was an orange colour stripped bare?
Does it fade eventually like normal toner? I don't want permanent colour.
Does it have to be semi permanent???
I brought permanant live mercury blue and the color creme is white so im thinkihg the answer is yes. The color needs to be semi permanant.
she got bit too much dye in one section so it stained but other than that everything went so good
Wow really awesome results
I have dyed medium to dark brown hair with major brassiness. Will this get rid of the orange?? Help
Wow just wow! I cant believe this worked and didnt dye your hair blue! Just how lol, dose it really depend how much dye and conditioner you use?
I have to say a big THANK YOU!!!
+Romi Nesse aw you're welcome 🤗
It’s gone slightly blue
I think a bit of purple would have corrected the blue/green results. Definitely ashed the orange, though.
Can you do this with purple shampoo or does it have to be white conditioner specially?
Hello, it just so happens it is at my roots that is orange. How do i go about this?
I recently used a bleach spray on my naturally dark brown/raven hair and the colour looks very reddish in the daylight - this is absolutely not what I wanted. Can I still use blue dye and conditioner to get rid of the brassiness? And if so, how long do I leave it on for?
I’m really scared that it would turn up green on some parts lol xD i don’t really mind the color, but i work in a formal enviroment. What do you recomend for avoiding that? Mixing it with purple or washing it purple first?
This got rid of the orange and it went green 🙄
What are you wearing on your lips?!
only just found this video...mine is a mixture of blondes and redish copper orange..would this work for me ? as don't want to risk more chemicals than nessasery also would like to finally have ice white and dark brown balarge once it's more cooperating lol x

Fluent In Felicity thanks so much hun 😘your videos make so much easier to follow than some others I've subbed liked etc and will give it a try although any colour would be better than this ...I look like a paint chart 😂😂😂x

Tina Peanuts lol! I know the feeling my partner doesn't even notice anymore I do it so often 😂 my son keeps asking me to have blue hair.. nope! Xx

Felicity W you've been so helpful thank you very much
no problem
What if I have the brassy color and tone it will I then be able to use navy blue? Will it show up?
Wow this is really cool! Thank you so much for the idea!!! 😍
+Georgi Yordanov no problem x
Is this the same as using a blue shampoo?
Thank you soooooosoooo much! I thought I had to use toner with developer only to find out that it doesn't work(plus more damage to my hair). I researched online for this method but wasn't sure if it would work but now I do :D You are awsomee

Don't you use developer?
if i will do this once in a month each time i should by another pack of hair dye? i will try this method. i have orange blond hair, hope it works.
Because its in a tube with a lid I just use the same dye rather than buying a new one each time you can just use it til it runs out, I tend to get a sealable pot and mix it in there and keep a stock for future use if it even needs it :)
Felicity W Thanks
Thank u so much for this ur a life saver !!!
I'm about to do this to my brassy ombre hair haha wish me luck
Britt S. how'd it go ? ~
Did it work? :)
When you wash it out do you use any shampoo or conditioner?
Hi please reply this i need to know the answer
Can i mix white hair mask ( silicon mix, kerastase) or it has to be white conditioner?
went and got some today, thanks for the video, really helpful.
Azrielle77 you're welcome hope it went well x
Hi! I bought a blue dye but it needs a developer to turn blue. shoud i also put some developer along with the conditioner and blue dye? help please :(
Lien Clemente try mixng a little bit with developer and do a test strand
Danya Acosta thank you!! I'll try and get back to you 😊
+Lien Clemente mix it up like it instructs then mix a load of conditioner with it after like you would a pre made dye ☺️
Fluent In Felicity hi!! I did it already and it worked! My brassy hair turned out more of an ash blonde shade. Tho I need to tone it more since I have thick hair lol thank you so much!!
I did. This an my root was blue an my hair was ash brown
You're stunning!😍
Amber S 🙈 thank you! xx
Felicity W no problem!❤️
Thank you
If I'm dying my hair purple anyways, do I need toner? I was planning on mixing a purple manic panic with some conditioner to dye it anyways
I wish I saw this 30 mins ago. I used 10 times as much blue and now my hair is a light blue 🤣🤦♀️ will bleach again next week and then try again
This happened to my hair too. Well I have more greenish tones. How do I get rid of them?
@@rachelv9927 did you start with orange hair or yellow hair? Mixing a blue color to yellow creates green hues, if you start with more yellow brassy color you use violet/purple, if you have more orange brassy hair then you use a more blue color.
mona ll it was a little orange. Then I used the toner and made it more yellow. I just ended up giving up and coloring it purple lol I couldn’t figure it out. And didn’t want to waste more money.
really hope this works , thank u!
Let me know if it does! Definitely worth a try :)
hi! so if i use ordinary hair dye i need no developer in the mixture?
poppy2908 nope just conditioner. Basically you use the colour you want and then the conditioner dilutes it down so it's more of a tint than a dye :)
thanks :*
Works thanks
Would this work with manic panic? (if so what color would you recommend getting?)
Can I use a true blue dye instead of a toner to achieve teal hair?
Yes the one I used is a dye not toner x
Informative & to the point.
Thank you.
Beautiful
Great video and to the point, Thank you so much!
you put inside of conditioner.. is it ok to mix with shampoo you think?
+Gedusa shampoo won't be as good as it will wash off any residue of the dye trying to stick to the hair x
Hi did you get some tints of green at the ends. I'm can see a few.
+Komi B yes where I started with the brush and I was taking too long so used my hands instead that’s the bit you can see where I left it in too long 😂
omg it works thanks alot
Great job!
How long will the colour last before a top up is needed ?
Sana Zeeshan between 1 and 3 weeks. you can always make a big batch and put it. in a container then apply it sort of once a week like a conditioner :) x
Love your lipstick color!!!
+katie rose thank you it's by MUA was only like 3 quid :)
It didn't work my ash gray hair turned out blue. 😔
How long do I leave it on?😊
depends on the consistency really, id try leaving it for 5 minutes, but keep an eye out if it starts to turn blue/green, spread out your hair between your hands and you should be able to see it. Leave it on a bit longer if necessary :)
Would this work with Splat? Lol I wanna try itt
So I tried it with Splat Blue Envy and it does work but, I had to do it a couple times to get the right consistency for it to actually change my hair color. My orange hair wasn't as light as the girl in the video's, probably a shade or 2 darker but it did turn ashy (:
+Jessi Solorzano that's great! I've tried a few different brands like manic panic blues purples etc and they all work ! X
