sorry for the focusing issues in this vid btw I'm getting rid of this camera lol. Anyway if you liked this video check out the one I made about leaving Patreon! ruclips.net/video/7hRHnavoKmM/видео.html
I have a Patreon, but honestly, I've never done anything with it. I believed in what I thought was the original model - to bring back the opportunity for people to become patrons of their favorite artists, so that those artists could concentrate on their artwork. Da Vinci and many others had patrons, and this is how they survived. Patreon is.. not. It seems to me that it's more a place for artists to make money by teaching other artists, rather than for pure patronage. I've been thinking about this for a while, so I'll definitely check out your other vid, thanks. And thanks for this one. You settled my mind on something I've struggled-with: Consolidating all of my various sites and social media together, and turning my RUclips channel into more a creative haven, rather than a location for a single type of thing.
RUclips is without a doubt my favorite place on the internet and I highly agree with you on this topic. It has been a game changer for me in so many aspects of my life, and even though I'm not monetized as of now, I'm working hard trying to build my channel up to that point where it will allow me to work full time on my art and creative work. Hopefully I'll get to that point soon! RUclips is also a wonderful FREE resource for education for many and most of the skills that I've learned in the last 10 years or so has come from RUclips. I definitely believe that the future of many things is RUclips. 😊
@@muffsmerino Hehe thanks! I'm still pretty far to being monetized unfortunately. I almost have my 1000 subscribers, but need 4000 watch hours, which is the REALLY hard part. I'll get there eventually though. It's just a slow journey. 🥰
As an artist with a RUclips channel that's fallen WAY by the wayside, this is exactly what I needed to get myself pumped up again! I remember how much I loved the process of putting together a video, and I'm so looking forward to doing it again, but better. I LOVE the idea of making art vlog style videos but thinking of them as movies--not dramatizing our lives necessarily, but treating them as something worthy of a movie. I don't have the energy to comment on as many videos as I would like, but I really wanted to comment on this one--thank you!
I am feeling the same after not uploading much over the last couple of years. It's great getting back into it with fresh ideas, I think the break has done me good! Good luck with your channel!
I think most artists on youtube are doing basic studio vlogs because youtube is straight up a second job. I love the idea of creating high quality youtube videos, but it takes so much time and effort : we need to publish at least 1 video a week to grow our channel, meaning that every week, we not only have to do our actual job of creating art , running a business, etc. But also having a full on second job of planning, documenting, editing.. a video. It takes a lot of energy to create meaningful art, i think it also takes as much to create wonderful videos. It is very challenging and i have been finding myself to be spreading myself too thin, especially as it is the beginning of my art journey. I don't understand how we can make and sell art while also managing a youtube channel full time. If we spend all of our time creating youtube video, we have less time making actual art. And then priorities change and we become content creator instead of actual artist because we spend more time on it. I see my favorite creators burning out and a part of me is scared this would happen.
A lot of channels both established and starting out really don't upload once a week. Valerie Lin uploads like once a month and has from the beginning. Megan Wang uploads every other week, same with Paloma AFAIK. Leigh does like once a month or something now. I think the era of a weekly studio vlog is ending. You're right, artists need more time to make art & make a quality video. The answer is to this is to just upload a bit less. Once a week is great when you're making RUclips a habit and learning the ropes, but after a while it's not sustainable and you need to space things out more. I hope that helps!
@@KelseyRodriguez 💯 Yesss it helps a lot!! Thank you! You really got me thinking about all of this and I totally agree with you, I think the art space needs diversity and innovation.
I agree, it becomes more of a filmmaking journey than artist's journey. It's hard to focus on making art while creating youtube videos I can't even imagine how time consuming it will be. I rather just make art and post it and not have to talk to an audience about the art itself, some of us just aren't good at that.
That’s what I’ve been saying! TikTok and Instagram is a hard to connect with your audience cause it’s just a place to consume art and nothing else. While you can also do the same thing with RUclips, content is not only longer, but there’s at least some form of engagement.
On my TikTok it’s art focused and my followers are very engaging. RUclips will be new for me so I’m nervous about building engagement on there. I just started posting on RUclips yesterday.
As someone with a lot of struggling artist friends, I watched art youtube for a bit and was surprised to see a number of creators seemingly thriving. But, as you mention, its limited to a certain subset of artists. Its often cute, pretty, or quirky illustrations turned into prints, stickers, and other small reproducible items, and the videos themselves usually try to offer similar cozy, asmr, relaxed vlog vibes. RUclips could certainly dictate some mass market trends, but I don't think its the future of art. Algorithms encourage sameness, making videos is a ton of work, as is having to present both your work and yourself. Its certainly right for some artists, but not most. And if it does work for you, it might be worth double checking whether your art is a reflection of you or a biproduct of algorithm consumption.
100% agree with this. I'm still developing my art, and start preparing myself for social media, but if something is absolutely true, is that videos are the future.
As someone who just started their art RUclips channel this year, I agree. RUclips is one of the most helpful platforms for artists. Thank you for this inspirational video!
RUclips is really a great platform for artists, I've made some good and performing videos and some that aren't, but that's how we learn. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
When it comes to my connection to artists on the internet, I can say without a doubt that I engage and connect the most with artists I follow on RUclips. So I decided growing my channel is going to be core to my strategy from now on. Storytelling is a great skill to have as a professional of any kind, and RUclips is a place where you can practice that.
I'm so grateful to be an artist during a time when there's RUclips in the world! I wouldn't have connected with so many amazing people without it. Great video 🙂
Kelsey: giving the most heartfelt and passionate speech about RUclips and how it can be a game changing tool for artists Me, 70% into my painting: Oh sh*t, I forgot to turn on the camera.
That's exacly THE topic I have on the back on my brain like 24/7... I tried YT but "failed" finding my voice in it. I will love to go back at it when I also go back to making art seriously (I kinda took a break to stay at home with little girl) and I'm really want to find my way of making art video because the actual very aesthetic way of doing it, although is a joy to watch, is a real pain to make... Thinking of every different angles to shoot, every broll, etc... drain my brain power from the actual work of art I'm trying to make in the first place! Congrats to all of you that manage to so, but I think I really need to find a way to make video about my creative process even if I'm not dressed for the camera, or if suddenly I want to work late in the evening etc... My point is, I don't want that the video making part becomes bigger than the actual artwork itself.
I agree! It is really hard to show the effort you put into art. This is why I'm starting my channel too. I also found it difficult to be taken seriously without a documentation/following on socials but other platforms falls flat on connecting with the audience.
YES exactly, RUclips is the one platform where the journey is really put at the forefront. It’s hard to grow here but the community you do build is much more engaged & meaningful than elsewhere
@@KelseyRodriguez And your content has been really helpful! I cant say how much it has helped me get a feel of the platform and its scope!! Didnt think Id see you on the comments but hope you are having a great day and hope this reminds you of all the best things you bring to life 💜💜💜 so so so happy to have see content💖
I'm just beginning my Art RUclips journey so I'm so happy to hear this! I just posted my first 'process' video and I am really excited to take people with me on my journey to becoming a full time artist. RUclips is fast becoming my favourite platform because of its evergreen nature and I'm learning so much at the same time! I hope I'm where you are in three years! 🤗😄
I always think about how art is the most beautiful form of human connection, I love listening painters while they are working or just listening to them at all because you can see the soul behind the work. I now feel comfortable with my skills on making art and I really would like to connect with others through this, Instagram is so difficult to work with and also TikTok. I will try to make RUclips content, I have so much to share and if I'm lucky people will share their time with me also. Thank you so much for making this video!
I certainly agree with the sentiment.. but what comes to mind immediately for me is how PewDiePie's Coco music video got banned from the platform. This song and music video was layered with messages and was such a brilliant piece of art... RUclips may be good for artists but unfortunately it's becoming more and more limited with what you are allowed to express. At it's worst it's becoming stuffy and polished like Linkedin. I have faith it will get better though!
I personally have no interest in people watching my process or journey, but you make some interesting points. I agree that watching someone figuring what works and what doesn't until they are satisfied with the work is much more interesting than the end product.
As an art student, it really feels like RUclips is a great way to showcase my art as it is so diverse in art styles and experiences, which entails having a community centralized on art. It's nice to be able to share art in video forms because it is like storytelling in a movie or like a tv series because it can be cut off to different parts which have story arcs (just like TenHun's biggest collab).
I've been making and streaming my art online in some form since 2001. I see everything come and go and come back again. The amount of work and upkeep being any kind of online artist is staggeringly hard, especially if you have to work to live on the side. We just don't have a lot of time to do the amazing stuff.
We’re out there; just haven’t been found . However I do think a lot of originality is taking an existing idea and making it our own . There are only so many ways to film the art process what is unique is who we are.
True! There are plenty of art vids that play on different themes. The cool thing about a smaller online following is the ability to experiment freely! At least in my experience.
There are other video platforms also. By putting your art in front of more people. One lesson I learned from my time in Amway, go wide, then go deep. Also don't put all your art on one platform, you should also have a web site with your own name. This helps build your brand. Think about your brand.
I think tomei is doing something innovative in terms of melding together art, cooking, and cinematography. The vids she produces is aesthetic AF, and the food looks absolutely ethereal and divine. If I were to start a channel, I’ll likely look at her stuff for inspiration
If you like innovative art channels there's also 'Cat Graffam' - incredibly knowledgeable of the art world including experience being a gallery curator - and 'Jackie Liu' - whose work is so powerful I don't even have the words to describe it.
Hi Kelsey! Thank you so much for making these videos. Over the past few weeks, I’ve watched almost all your videos and they just get me pumped. After drawing as a hobby for over 10 years and meanwhile doing everything else to find a career, I realized I just can’t stop drawing or thinking about art. I’ve decided to finally give myself and my art a shot. And RUclips is probably one of the best things I can do right now for all the reasons you’ve stated. Thank you for making me a little bit surer in my decision. Lots of love from Nepal.
I love tinkering on my music process, it's a huge part of making music that nobody sees. I should be recording the that. Thanks for shouting out CHEF RPG. I love Stardew Valley and this game looks good! Good luck with the Vlog 🙂
I was literally talking about this very topic today. I’ve been having a challenging time getting my art business off the ground. You Tube is the next right step.
I just uploaded my first video a few minutes ago! I've been ruminating on it for a long time and I'm finally ready to start the journey.♥️ Thank you Kelsey for confirming this is the right move!
wow, the way you articulate your thoughts - you do exactly what you're telling us to do in this video. your words touched me and inspired me to do more, and to be more. thank you so much kelsey, you revolutionize the art world for me
You hit it on the nail. In my head if a artist is not on RUclips it’s like “What are you doing”🤷🏾♂️ RUclips is the #1 platform to be on. 🎉 Thank you for this Video.
I really want to study here without obstacles, but I just started to learn English, this process is very difficult, but I will try my best. I also began to share my painting and calligraphy here everyday. I always believe that sharing is also a good way to learn.❤😊
Very inspiring, thank you! I’ve been thinking of starting a channel for a while, but the old self-doubt and other excuses have stopped me. I think I can come up with something. ❤
I totally agree, in fact I was talking about this just recently. Civilization's favorite thing right now is movies, we artists can take that for ourselves
This video is a proverbial sign from heaven for me lmao. I'm doing an artproject that would require me to explain in copious ammounts of text what motivated every piece of it and since I post my art f.e. on Twitter the throught of it was just dreadful. So I came up with the idea of making a video where I get to gush over the inspirations and ideas that led to the final product, without feeling limited and constrained, especially since one of the inspirations came from a specific niche of youtube vids. This video is just... Yes. Just yes. It's almost like a divine confirmation that this could work out very well. Thank you so much.
I have an art channel, and I think it's a great way to show art to people. Takes ages to get the hang of video-making, but I think it's worth it, to reach an audience that might otherwise not see your work at all.
I feel like you were talking directly to me. This is a major confirmation for me to keep going. I’m a long way to monetization as I just started over the summer but my vision is to “bring the art within the art”. It’s challenging but I’m having a lot of fun and evolving as a person as I’m creating my content for RUclips. Thank you Kelsey ✨
So inspiring - to think of art vlogs that no one has seen before! Just started this year really in unexplored territory as you say. It’s not perfect but it’s been such a fun process, not overthinking too much except Pressing publish and seeing what happens. So moved by these words, it resonates so much! Thank you for all you are doing to help artists- God bless you.
I entirely agree that the personal connection will be a crucial element to distinguish the individual artist against the tide of AI/CG art that is about to come flooding in over the next however many years. In recent years, I have been particularly impressed by how many museum exhibitions have worked to really emphasize the sense of the community and context that a particular artist lived in, rather than simply presenting work as a sort of Platonic object. An excellent example just a little over a year ago was the amazing show at the Boston MFA that really emphasized Basquiat's friendships and fellow artists, performers and musicians in the larger Hip-Hop and Graffiti subculture of New York City in the early 1980s. Now THAT was a breath of fresh air, and it really gave me a much better sense of that era and his place in it., as well as also introducing me to artists that I otherwise would have never heard about.
AI art is now flooding the internet, not just stealing CG art, but traditional. I'm impress about how artist who can actually make a difference in developed country's are doing nothing to push laws against AIs. Most of them like ross draws, sam does art etc take the damm AIs like a toy, cuz they are already well positioned.. And dont give a f%ck about the 99% left. AIs devs tryied to do the same with music not long ago, and the industry take them down faster.. I feel like as artist we should know more about copyright laws be cause AIs don't have to eat. P.D: sorry about dwelling on this in your comment hahaha
@@TheFatalintention Ikr? It baffles me, like what are people waiting for? The moment when AI will make all of them lose their jobs? If most just do it for fun and would ignore it as extra source of income wouldn't they at least care about all the years of practive that would go down the drain? This is so sickening
This is why I’m focusing more on in-person events and shows going forward. These things aren’t going anywhere and (most) people love connecting with the artist. It’ll be an even bigger breath of fresh air as the internet becomes more dominated by AI stuff. Also most of the customers I’ve had have not been through social media
Thank you for making these videos. I often have similar thoughts and ideas then I see you talking about the same things and I just feel like what I'm trying to do means something. These videos have really inspired me to branch out of my comfort zone and make art and things that make people feel something, to execute the original ideas I have and not worry about trends and negativity from people is irrelevant. So thank you from an artist who really appreciates you taking the time to make these ♥️
Tbh feel like you posting this video is the universe pushing me to start making stuff again lol It's been difficult. Posting on social media really does feel like throwing stuff out into the void and I've always appreciated how youtube feels like it makes all your content count for something, like it's a documentation of your progress. I've been trying to balance work and everything and trying to edit at the same time + plus getting over that dumb feeling I have that what I make needs to be at a certain quality in order for me to post it, but maybe I just need to start doing stuff and letting it improve at its own pace. Thank you as always for your videos and your channel. You've made this space such a nice place to be.
Yes girl, I see that, trying to learn it for that very reason ! I’ll post things on the short form platforms but I feel like I’m wasting my time because I’m not connecting to anyone
Ok now I know the uploading of this vid is a good omen for mecuz I am searching for a sketchbook on the streets of Colombo and all the stores are literally closing as I arrive at the doors, literally about to lose my motivation on doing art and then this appears like a blessing. Just as always Kelsey saved my art career's derriere 😆
So well said!! You explained this in such a way that I’m even more inspired to push the boundaries and explore new styles in my own vlogs. Even I feel like my own videos can get stale to me, so keeping this motivation in mind is vital. Can’t wait to watch your art vlogs!! ❤️❤️
I have only one to thing about this video: I AGREE 2938746512893741234%! I wish I could like this video a billions times, and even then I'd ask to like it even more. You put to words exactly my view on all this since the dawn of my consciousness.
I agree. I started my channel 2 years ago to do tutorials but like now I just want to make fun videos that I ENJOY making about my art/life as well as tutorials (because I enjoy them) and just overall leaving something cool behind. I like this take!
Omg, you managed to put in words everything I felt about future of my art career and with all that ai train hitting me really hard I think your video gave me hope
I agree. I made this account in 2006 as I wanted to do movies using special effects among others. And I've been doing my latest season of my game review show, the opening credits anyway(13th Season. Wow.)in a more cinematic style. For me I do not plan to monetize, this is only a hobby for me, but it gives me in my opinion more artistic license as I'm not worried as most if I use licensed music. And one of my inspirations was a well done post called Art of the Saber, which interwove a Civil War letter written by Captain Sullivan Ballou before The First Battle of Bull Run, to his wife, as a lightsaber battle unfolded. And the way they do it is superb. The lightsaber fight choreography is beautiful in every sense. Thank you for saying this, this definitely needed saying. One more thing, when I applied to a school that specializes in editing, they asked if I had a RUclips channel. And to note, this was in 2011 when I applied. So I told them my channel, they asked suggestions, I told them, "pick whatever you want." As I stand by everything I make on here. And you know what, they enjoyed my video they chose saying I have charisma. Although they offered me a opportunity, I wasn't able to. But knowing that what I did on here impressed a college, not bad in the slightest. Keep making this world a beautiful and magnificent place. 😊🎮🖖🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️Marcus
I keep looking at other art youtubers who vlog their process and thinking, I could do that, but why would anyone watch me over the thousands of channels just like it. I've been feeling stuck before I even start. But what you just said about the video being a part of the art hit it home for me. I need to be brave, create videos that feel like they're me and think outside the box, not just follow the popular format. Because the video itself is a part of the canvas. Now im itching to begin and let my video ideas have the space they need to explore. Needed to hear this thank you
I've always wanted to make episodic content with a long running series, but I've never wanted to work in the film industry in itself. I worked as a PA on some TV sets years ago and it just wasn't for me. I didn't want to deal with all of "that" mess. It felt more like a rat race. But on RUclips I've seen so many people make animated d&d content (I'm a huge nerd, all I do is work on d&d games) and I wanted to too. My first episode comes out soon and it feels like I'm actually working on a show. We have voice acting, storyboards, and more. And without youtube I wouldn't be able to put this out there and instead would have to go through the hoops of the industry and HOPE someone at the top likes my pitch for an idea of a show. I agree with everything you're saying about youtube and I've felt it for a long time. But you've said in a way better articulated way than I could. Thanks for making this video. It dropped at the right time whenever I needed that boost of confidence that I'm making the right decisions
I think an interesting competitor for art RUclips is Twitch. I’ve really loved recently having an art twitch stream on while I’m also working on some art, it feels like coworking. I’ve also heard from creators who both stream and make videos how different the community building is on Twitch since there’s a bit more direct and immediate interaction, especially in smaller streams, while RUclips comments can feel more one sided. I think RUclips is great for all the reasons you spoke about but it’ll be interesting to see how it interacts with other streaming platforms going forward.
Discoverability is so bad on twitch that I think you can't just use twitch, and the fact that you need another platform to plug your twitch streams automatically reduces it's usefulness in my eyes. I think for most artists posting VODs on RUclips AND streaming on YT from the same account is the way to go (that's just me tho!)
@@KelseyRodriguez totally - i think the majority of people i follow on there i found through other platforms first. The exceptions to that are when streamers use the raid feature to introduce their audience to a new (to me) streamer and have found some great communities that way.
What convinced me to give RUclips another chance was the community tab. It feels like a chore having to share my work on all of these social media sites. It would be simpler just to display my work in one place. Not everyone wants to do that by posting long form content either.
@@DrCalyn I tried it before. It's really good for animations! I'm taking a break due to a wrist injury but when I get the chance, I'd like to use shorts for animations and the community tab to show paintings.
Hi smart girl. Really enjoyed your point of view. A Forty year old, really feels like a window to young people perspective. You as a generation are living in such a different world, yet here I am inhabiting this reality at the same time. So weird 😊
Your channel has honestly been a game changer for my mindset this year. I’ve come back to my small business after maternity leave & things felt really different & scary, I felt I was so confused with where to go. I’m starting to understand what I want again & a lot of that has come from listening to your videos, they’re super comforting & they’ve helped to solidify the feelings I was already having towards social media especially. You’re a joy to watch & listen to, thank you 🥰💖
this is the push I needed to start creating my next RUclips Video. I've been working on a long-term project of illustrating a tarot deck and have been so disappointed in the lack of fulfillment I get from sharing on Instagram alone. There is so much more to be said/so many connections to be made and I think RUclips will make this possible. Thanks so much for the video and all of your insight!
It’s NaNoWriMo and I was planning on writing 3 shorts just to get back into writing… but I think you’ve just helped me nail how I want to produce art content for RUclips. I love writing and I love illustration, but it always bothered me that I couldn’t make content on creative writing that was similar to how art channels have done it. So I thought, what if I merged the two so that instead of the typical timelapse or do a drawing process video, why not blend both? Show my art process and tell the story-the actual story tied to the piece-all in the same video. I’m so excited. I think in lieu of writing I’m gonna spend this entire month planning and developing this idea, and hopefully producing it soon. Thank you so much, Kelsey! I feel so inspired and invigorated! I look forward to your vlogs and can’t wait to see your continued growth as an artist and as a channel!
I get what you mean! One of the reasons I created my first video is so that I could find something to do outside of art, but also because its a useful way for me to share my art. I'm cautious about how much to show because I tend to get anxious about revealing information on the internet (rightfully so, because what the internet does to fem-presenting creators is sometimes absolutely vile, especially those further marginalized). But I'm taking steps to get outside my comfort zone. Art is how I express myself, and I like seeing how other artists get to express themselves too. It's a unique way to document your creations
i do want people to make more original content. i feel like everyone is making the same commentary on the same topics and trends all the time, i wish people would have the patience for original content to grow and not only be interested in things they already know
Ok ok. YT has always been my source to finding like-minded artists, inspiring tutorials/timelapses, painting ideas, etc since like 2012. It made me feel like I wasn't alone, like I wasn't the only young artist in the world who just wanted to paint for painting's sake! Anyway, thanks for this video! I GIVE IN. I'm going to really really try and create videos again in 2023. Because everything you said in this video was 100% and inspiring 🧡🌈⚡
it's amazing how I can almost hear Adam Duff's words from your mouth, you two share a philosophy on what it means to succeed that is very deep and valuable, thank you
I never comment on videos but kelsey you have such a way with words, this video really touched me and you just spoke out loud what my heart has been saying to me for forever. Just thank you so much ❤️
After leaving twitter, and not supporting anything made by meta, it’s hard to find a place where art feels like it belongs, and can be shared and celebrated. As a RUclips addict, I would be extremely happy to see youtube blow up with artists (even more than it is now). I agree, I think even if its NOT the best place for it, it SHOULD and CAN be :)
I just found you. ❤You had me with your cinematography of spiderwebs in your opening. Your description of your hopes for RUclips falls into place with a number of other artists I follow. The saddest part of youtube lasting is that sometimes you find someone wonderful and they no longer post or stop without explanation. And you're right, there is an inexplicable bond when you feel you are part of a creative process, even if it's just observation. Keep it up!
Casey I am so glad someone said this. I’m so glad I’m not the only one thinking and talking about this. I’m so excited to see what videos and films that the art community makes! I knew I wasn’t the only one. Short films that are process videos. Tell the story the ups and downs. Why you did each brush strokes and colour but tell it like Robert Rodriguez would or Ava Duvenay. What would this process video look like if it was a western or a sci fi? The possibilities are endless! So let’s go! Artist! Let’s change the world here on RUclips!
True. I guess that to sell these days you've got to be good at self--promotion, that's just a given. The problem with this as a system however is that some individuals may be absolute geniuses at their art but less adept at performing in front of a camera. Sadly, this is likely to mean that both those individuals and society as a whole miss out on them sharing their gifts, as it always has done to an extent. Yes, it's a lazy example but I'm thinking Van Gogh. Would he appear before or after the lobe amputation and how well would that go down with the fans ? Would the amputation actually get him more hits ? I'm just throwing it out there. What about dear old Rembrandt ? Do you think he would have fared better in old age when he was a broken alcoholic ? Would that have sent the fans crazy maybe ? Or maybe Richard Dadd from Bedlam Asylum ? I think in the 20th Century we already got to a pretty sad point in terms of the commercialisation of Art, marketing gimmicks and self-promotion and so I guess the trend is set to continue
Well, it seems EVERYONE loves a sob story. It might not make your art sell, but it sure will get views & likes, I betcha, not to mention all the comments ;) I think to sell these days you first need to grow an incredibly thick skin - people can and will say the most horrible things because you can't see THEM. As such, introverts can be crushed, destroyed by a single comment. Beware, be very aware, be wary. There's got to be a better way for the quietly talented individuals we are ALL missing out on!
It's so funny that RUclips was originally my start, but I never had the idea to combine my art with the video format as well. But social anxiety, the pandemic and so much created such a adverse reaction for me and I've been scared to put myself out there again like I once did. This video is kind of changing my mind though.
I am in my last year of high school and I was still deciding how I was going to start my art career. I obviously considered RUclips to start, but was unsure how to start. This video motivates me so much, thank you ❤️
This was incredibly inspiring to my Kelsey. I have felt exactly the same way about youtube art vlogs seeming to be in a creative rut. I've been a traditional artist my whole life and technology doesn't come easy to me, but I started a vlog because I love the way good vlogs make me feel and tell unique and real stories, and I also noticed a gap in the youtube art community and wanted to push myself to learn this skill of video and I'm so happy I did(though I'm still a complete beginner!) I am so excited to hear you say you have the same feelings about wanting to expand the notion of what art vlogging can be and I cannot wait to see what you come up with!
There is so so much power in trying to fill a gap in a community, my business content did that and it helped skyrocket my channel. I think there’s always room for new approaches! 💗
Thank you so much for saying this! I’m starting to make RUclips videos and this inspires me and makes me excited! I can’t even tell you how helpful your words in this video are 😊 thank you for creating!!💖💖💖
May be totally unrelated so sorry but I love your hair cut and how the bangs are wispy and soft wish mine were like these 😊oh and you absolutely rock all shades of brown. As for RUclips I agree. It is requiring of the artists community to step up their fan of skills and their collaboration ability. This helped me gain clarity as to what to do next as I was a bit doubtful but thank you.
my trick for bangs that (mostly) behave and look wispy like this is dry shampoo! they add a bit of volume and help everything stay together. I use dry shampoo starting like 6h after I wash my hair and reapply like every 12h until I wash again. makes such a difference!! but props really go to my hairdresser who's the best
I've had this idea dancing around my head for years now and made one video previously but haven't committed to keeping it up since then and this was a nice little push out the door and reminder of what I feel. Thank you!! I totally agree with your outlook and most of the things that inspire me the most now come from youtube. Excited to see this community evolve as a safe haven for artists
Kelsey! You’re so inspirational to me. Thank you. I come away from your videos with some actionable step or habit to try, and renewed energy to implement it.
I've been thinking about making a youtube channel for almost 4 years now. I know what kind of videos I want to make and I constantly write down ideas in the middle of other activities. But, at the same time, I've been battling an insistent depression that has only got worse with the pandemic, and it's kept me away from my art most often than not. After a whole year of proper treatment (and not just wishing the next day could be better), I'm finally feeling my creative drive coming back to me and, with it, the desire to make my youtube channel. Your video was truly inspirational. I was always afraid I wouldn't have enough to show because I would go weeks or months without writing (which in itself is hard to show progress through a visual medium). Now I think this could be part of the stories I share in my videos. Even though I'm getting back in the rhythm of writing more often, I know there'll be bad days or weeks where I won't be able to write a single word, but I'll be less afraid of being considered a failure because of that.
This is a really nice sentiment! I do love the long-form videos over short form (though both have a place, in my opinion). I don’t have other social media, so I really do hope RUclips will be the place for artists.
Thanks for posting this! I've been fiddling around on RUclips for 18 years now (OMG I cant believe its been so long already, I remember telling me friends about this new video website in high school lol) but never made any content. Last night I made my first videos. Appreciate the tips!
It was wataching this video you made that set me on the path to create my own art channel. My art channel is now 3 weeks old and I am loving the whole process. Thank you Kelsey! Also just found your podcast which I will start listening. Thank you!!!!!!!!
So inspiring, and definitely tweaked the way I see long-form video content. Recently ive been thinking of pushing my youtube content creation till when im super good at art, but honestly why not just be vulnerable and show the messy process of getting good? Excited to do exceptional stuff!
This video inspired me so much. I’m just starting my journey as a tattoo artist and want to document it and give advice but felt stale as hell making videos like everything else. I’m his really opened my mind to all the possibilities I have and I’m so excited to create now:) thank you
Glad I clicked on this video! I've been thinking about posting my art and art process to youtube, but its so scary!! This video has helped me look at this in a new light.
sorry for the focusing issues in this vid btw I'm getting rid of this camera lol.
Yup. You make great points. Good video, thanks for your work :>
RUclips is without a doubt my favorite place on the internet and I highly agree with you on this topic. 😊
Same here.
Same
Agree. I am obsessed with RUclips in every way. It's amazing.
Also, way to go your are almost there!
👀 id love to see these movie-like art videos youre talking about.
@@AA-rr9lyFor me animation is the best way for me
That’s what I’ve been saying!
Thanks for bringing so many people together here. I agree with you. I’m hoping to be one 😇
"In a world where you have a million and one Morbiuses, be an Everything, everywhere, all at once" - best inspirational quote ever!
Definitely pulled me. 😄😍
As an artist, you just gave me one more reason to start a RUclips channel. Thanks :3
Same here!
same to you
RUclips is really a great platform for artists, I've made some good and performing videos and some that aren't, but that's how we learn.
Me too! :)
Me too!
As a filmmaker, I agree. And I adore your channel. 💫
Kelsey: giving the most heartfelt and passionate speech about RUclips and how it can be a game changing tool for artists
Me, 70% into my painting: Oh sh*t, I forgot to turn on the camera.
Hey, you were in the flow, which is a beautiful state in your defense😂
I need this for my morning alarm. I’m so inspired. I have felt so fake and burnt out with IG.
Oh I haven’t heard of her before, thanks for the recommendation!
You Tube is the next right step.
this feels like the push i needed to start my channel. thank you :)
I just uploaded my first video a few minutes ago! I've been ruminating on it for a long time and I'm finally ready to start the journey.♥️ Thank you Kelsey for confirming this is the right move!
Liked :)
Thank you! An incredible challenge.
I’ve been debating whether or not to start a channel.
I think you’ve pushed me to ACT!
wow, the way you articulate your thoughts - you do exactly what you're telling us to do in this video. your words touched me and inspired me to do more, and to be more. thank you so much kelsey, you revolutionize the art world for me
You hit it on the nail. In my head if a artist is not on RUclips it’s like “What are you doing”🤷🏾♂️ RUclips is the #1 platform to be on. 🎉 Thank you for this Video.
Keep inspiring artists! Encourage creativity at all levels and styles!
This is freaking amazing. Listening to this gets me so excited for the future of RUclips and art! Thank you for covering this topic :)
Love, love, LOVE this! You are so right- how lucky we are as artists to be in this moment! 🥰🥳🎨 Cheering for you! ✨
Your videos have been a good learning tool for me as an artist who is transferring from Instagram to RUclips. Thank you!
this was honestly really inspiring! ive really enjoyed the start of my youtube journey and i hope to continue to grow! thank you for your wisdom 💕
Omg joined in 2007, the first channel was claymation I made with my brother! We still kept in contact with some ppl. Those were good days haha.
Agree!! If you aren't getting play you aren't being yourself. RUclips isn't pushing an algo on people, people are looking for authentic stuff.
What convinced me to give RUclips another chance was the community tab. It feels like a chore having to share my work on all of these social media sites. It would be simpler just to display my work in one place. Not everyone wants to do that by posting long form content either.
How do you feel about RUclips shorts? Curious, love this conversation.
I just love how positive and informative your content is- thank you Kelsey 💘 You’re amazing
Yes! THis is exactly what I´ve been thinking! This video might just be what pushes me to finally make my first video
Ive been a RUclips artist for 14years and i still agree its the best platform to expose your craft and build your community
It might not make your art sell, but it sure will get views & likes, I betcha, not to mention all the comments ;)
I think to sell these days you first need to grow an incredibly thick skin - people can and will say the most horrible things because you can't see THEM.
Thanks for making this video, Kelsey! Yes, I definitely agree that RUclips is the future of artists.
Thank you so much for giving me hope and inspiration as I plan to start my own RUclips art channel. This is exactly what I needed to hear!!!
Completely agree with you, I’m just now starting this art RUclips journey and can only hope to be anywhere near as successful as you are ❤
May be totally unrelated so sorry but I love your hair cut and how the bangs are wispy and soft wish mine were like these 😊oh and you absolutely rock all shades of brown.
Thank you! I wholeheartedly agree. I really enjoy what Sandi Hester does here on RUclips. She is a breath of fresh air!
I really appreciate your enthusiasm and drive to create something new using film so to speak and art with new creative meaningful content.
Kelsey! You’re so inspirational to me. Thank you. I come away from your videos with some actionable step or habit to try, and renewed energy to implement it.
That video literally came to me RANDOMLY when I just finished telling my friend that I need the world to know my as an artist!!!
Thank you ♥️
Your genuine passion and sincerity really came through for me. Thank you so much for this video
Yes this is the NEW STORE FRONT! GONNA WATCH THIS TOMORROW IN FULL! Thank you so much!
I’m his really opened my mind to all the possibilities I have and I’m so excited to create now:) thank you
It motivates me even more to take more seriously my tiny channel. Thank you for this video 😊💞
Glad I clicked on this video!
I've been thinking about posting my art and art process to youtube, but its so scary!! This video has helped me look at this in a new light.
