I never gave thought to using calligraphy as a means to earn money. However you have planted a seed and I am blown away how generous you are with your knowledge and talent. You are the best Becca!
Thank you for being willing to share so much about calligraphy and how to make money at it. A few years ago, I went to a local calligrapher for lessons. she would not teach me unless I promised not to do business in our city so as not to compete with her for clients. We live in a city of 700K people. To the north is a larger city with over 1 million people. How she thought her students were a potential threat boggles the mind. People who are generous, or stingy, are rewarded accordingly. Thank you, Becca!
Man, I didn't know Calligraphy jobs were so expensive! This is something I could think about in the future when I master or semi master calligraphy. Thank you so much for this simple run-down. God bless!
I really, really, really, appreciate you, and all the work you have put into helping people like me, hopefully get to be as good some day!! I've always wanted to have my own home calligraphy business, and I am still a work in progress, but as a single mom, who just recently lost my first career, I'm itching to practice more and more so hopefully someday my hobby could help feed my family. Personally I love all the ideas that you proposed for side hustles. Plus, I've realistically spent THOUSANDS on my hand lettering/ card making/ crafts. I really hope that I can make something I love into a profession. Thanks again. I truly love your videos!!!
Wow, thank you SO much, Becca. You are a generous and kind artist and teacher. I started in January 2020 with you and now in November, I am now making small custom quotes (artwork) for Christmas gifts, and hope to begin selling and turning my passion for lettering into a living! Gotta say girl, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Thank you Becca for this info! My daughter just asked me to make 25 place cards for the upcoming holidays - my very first job! I'm so excited! You have such an amazing talent, I'm so happy that you share that talent with all of us!
I'm actually interested in a variation of the vows project. I'm in a fraternity, and I think a cool gift for those in the Greek Lettered Organization community is to have beautifully calligraphed pieces with quotes and information of their respected organizations.
I just finished the January 2022 intro course and purchased the series and am very interested in seeing if I can turn this into something I can market.
I am going to try and start by selling bookmarkers in a variety ... ie; uplifitng short quotes or personalized name markers... just to throw my art out there and see how it goes! I have a laminator and I love making bookmarkers for my girlfriends and they love them!
This is SO HELPFUL! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve questioned what I quote to clients. I’m now kicking myself. So many previous projects where I’ve low balled myself, and had no idea! Thank you so much for these insights!
I have actually already done a bunch of custom pieces, given as presents to some couples of friends for the birth or first birthday of their children, and it's AMAZING how much they value that "simple handwritten card"!!
I only plan on using my new skills for personal projects. I am so glad I took the course and would recommend it to anyone wanting to go forward in business. Loved the course, I am registered for the next course.
Thank you Becca, as always you read my mind lol You're not only good at what you do but I can say that you're just a good person. And I'm always thankful for your generosity. For a first project I think I'd try place cards.
I have made handmade cards for years and my regular handwriting is nice. It doesn't add the extra "jazz" I am looking for though so I have been wanting to learn calligraphy (for years) to up the quality/appeal of my cards. I am really excited about this aspect. Thank you for sharing your skills and experience so freely with us.
I had one woman who I had proofread 3 times on a family tree project. I spent almost 40 hours on it.,drove 40 miles to deliver it only to have her badmouth me and try to ruin my reputation.. and all the while, she had dozen copies made and gave/sold to her family members... Yes, people can rip you off,so price it and understand when you've completed your work.period.
Thanks so much for all the informatio you provided! It's a great way to know what to do or not to once you really get good with the Calligraphy techniques, and decide if you want to go into business.
Bless your heart for this! I was just setting up my pricing for my projects/products and I was struggling. This was so helpful 💕 thank you for sharing your tips Becca!
Thanks a tonne Becca! This video is super awesome! Though in India, these prices seem exorbitant untill you’ve ACTUALLY established your name, your video gives a fair idea on how to start. Love you loads! 😘
I agree!!! Sadly, very few people actually appreciate the kind of work that goes into it. If you try telling them about all the work involved, they'll just choose to get some generic printed fonts to save money. The market is very limited so even setting the most basic pricing (in terms of our currency and market) as suggested here will sound insane to people here, which is so unfair.
I think I would start with quotes and such. A little less intimidating than wedding vows. P.s. where did you learn all these tips and tricks on pricing and the “business” side of calligraphy? Also, I feel like the pricing could also vary depending on where you live. Love the tips! ❤️❤️
Definitely recommend knowing the local market and what people in the area are doing! That stuff is all covered in the pricing course too! :) But I learned by DOING!
Thank you for yet another very helpful video!Placecards and envelope calligraphy will be what I’m planning to focus on as I’m getting started. I recently did my first commissioned job since finished your workbook and that was a 5”x7” print a client wanted me to create for them.
So so helpful as I am a beginner thinking of selling my work! I think I will start with envelopes because I’ve actually been practicing those for friends lately!
Watched the entire thing. Becca, can I just say that your style is my favorite out of all the other artist-youtubers out there and I appreciate it SO MUCH!
I'm still learning in SMYL but thinking starting with envelopes and place cards. I make cards already, some I watercolor so figured that's the best fit.
Thanks Becca! I've actually done some wedding invites and place cards, but as gift for friends, so no charge. But totally get your points, it is so much work. My friend used a sort of textured envelope and it was sooooo hard to work with the pointed nib! But actually got a few payed jobs from custom quotes / artworks! I totally feel like I'm under pricing them though (I have your panic free pricing course)... But these people are my friends and I feel like they are ordering these custom pieces sort of to getting me excited and ready to sell my stuff, really sort of cheering me on - like they wouldn't order it to anyone or at all if not to serve as incentive for me, you know? So I'm really struggling with this right now! I keep hearing your voice saying "full price or free" hahahaha it's hard to get going!! I feel like I could up my prices once I start getting orders from people I don't know, and then would up my price for friends as well. Does that make any sense at all? ps: sorry for the gigantic text here hahaha
It’s surprising how long it takes to do envelopes! I’ve experimented with sending mail to family & friends. Super fun but it takes time to experiment, size, align, etc. Love the tips in all your videos. I would like to try/do place cards. Thank you, Becca!
I really like the idea of doing vows, book quotes and song lyrics and I LOVE doing place cards! I tried doing envelopes a couple years ago and HATED it. I think it was because I was a little inexperienced and it was too tedious. I might try doing it again since my skills are a lot more refined now...
Thank you, Becca. I really need this. I've been confuse for so long about start making money with this skill. As always, your explanation is so helpfull! I will reconsider about my next step. Thanks again, Becca.. ^^
I'm no where near starting to charge for my work but if I where to start paid work I think I'd start with the place cards as they I feel like they're the most simplistic yet you could probably still learn a lot from doing them!
Becca, thank you for all your video’s, post and knowledge -and teaching. It gives me a good idea on pricing and I have to see how this fits in my country, as I think the market and thus price might be a little different. Love to start with place cards and vows actually. But so far I only did two personal projects for my bff (and I did not charge). Thank you for everything you share. BR Sharon
Hi your videos are amazing. Very informative and helpful. But how do I attract clients people who want me to do this for them. Do I just keep putting my work out there and wait.
My best advice is to SHOW the kind of work you want to do. Even if it's not "real" yet - make fake examples for your portfolio (portfolio meaning Instagram, social media, website, etc!) so that people know you accept that kind of work. Put out the kind of work you want to attract :)
Great and useful content as always Becca! Thank you for this. I’d love to start by making greetings cards. I have always loved buying and shopping for them and now thanks to your calligraphy course, I love making them too ☺️
This video was so helpful!! It gave me confidence to go ahead and start marketing myself. I actually have done placecards for a few friends weddings for free, and loved it. Excited to start marketing that and maybe adding in vows as well.
My question is: HOW do you get a wedding (for example) job ? Like how can you get people to tell you what they want ? Because I want to do placecards, but can i get the job ?
My best advice is to SHOW the kind of work you want to do. Even if it's not "real" yet - make fake examples for your portfolio (portfolio meaning Instagram, social media, website, etc!) so that people know you accept that kind of work. Put out the kind of work you want to attract :)
Before lockdown, I got some commissioned quote but... this lockdown effect a lot... thanks you so much... your reply to others comments are also useful.
Well this was a great video I knew other people can make money doing calligraphy but I never considered for myself. I'll probably start with face cards because the writing of someone else's sacred vows...whew that's a bit intimidating. Thank you so much for the videos that you have I finally just subscribed after watching so many of them
Thanks so much for this and all of your other videos. So useful. I think the least intimidating would be place cards and envelopes because there is so much room for error in those larger pieces. Great tip about the light box though!
This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I have been working with the company Styled Hwy, they do styled shoots and it has helped me so much to know how long things take me!!! I have mostly been doing place cards on all kinds if different things (wooden coasters, tiles, etc.) & welcome signs on mirrors and seating charts on windows.
You are so informative. Do you have a teaching background? Thank you so much. Had a photographic illustration studio, I retired & hate all this extra idle time. I have a fantastic handwriting, and realized from see your videos I would be great at this calligraphy. So that's where I am right now. Thank you. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

I have done place cards for a friend (for free since it was my first go at calligraphy and they were very well received), and I've done a custom quote which was a lot of work and I'm not sure if I charged appropriately. Your generosity will take YOU very far in your calligraphy and in life...be ready to receive and be blessed! Much love ❤️
I have my first paid calligraphy job of making 30 wedding place cards. I see from your tips that I seriously undervalued my work.
I really, really, really, appreciate you, and all the work you have put into helping people like me, hopefully get to be as good some day!! I did calligraphy about 29 years ago and did some wedding invites and all, would love to do some more sometime.
I'm going to start small and work my way up. Thank you for your encouragement.

I enjoy your tips! I've done envelope work and was nervous about pricing it at 2.50 each. But for real, it took forever!

I am currently doing place cards but I’m a nail mail nerd as well as calligrapher so I want to get into that envelope game!! Thank you!
Thank you, Becca. I really need this. I've been confuse for so long about start making money with this skill. As always, your explanation is so helpfull! I will reconsider about my next step. Thanks again, Becca.. ^^
Thanks for another great video!! I would love to start with envelope addressing 😊💌
This video was so helpful! Especially since I just got engaged and am planning to use at least the envelope calligraphy when sending out invitations.
Exactly what I’ve been thinking about lately! Thanks Becca 💕
Thank you!! This was so helpful and informative❤❤
This was super helpful, thank you Becca! I think I would most likely start out with small custom projects just to further build my content.
Thank youuu for this!!! It genuinely felt like talking to a friend!!! You are sooo GORGEOUS keep going queen forever subscribed!!!
I’m keen to start with custom quotes and art works as that is the type of calligraphy I do to fun for myself and friends already.
Yay.... I am the first one to comment.!!!

Same query as Mehreen Shoaib

@@TheHappyEverCrafter I have been posting and putting out things for more than a year now. Still haven't gotten a single commission. Or even a request
Great and useful content as always Becca! Thank you for this. I’d love to start by making greetings cards. I have always loved buying and shopping for them and now thanks to your calligraphy course, I love making them too ☺️
This is fantastic. I'm also wondering about pricing for holiday cards or bookmarks. What sort of a price range do they go for?
Thanks for the great tips and price suggestions for each. I'd love to do custom projects and vows.
Thanks my flower!
Another wonderful video jam-packed with so much valuable info! Thank you as always Becca!! I think I would love to tackle the custom quote project!

Yes it’s very interesting cause my daughter is getting married so this be my gift .for her where I’m nervers also a bigginner
Thanks for the tips!
