i have been doing calligraphy since I was about ten years old--before calligraphy was really "a thing." I just started copying record albums and Christmas cards copying the Black Letter/Gothic style writing. I've given gifts over the years using that style of calligraphy, and always got very positive comments. When I do this type of calligraphy I do it free hand--basically because I didn't know there was a special nib to use. Now I am learning the Copperplate calligraphy because I am wanting to do wedding invitations etc. I am close to retirement and knew I would need som supplemental income. So when I found out that calligraphy can be a very profitable business I decided to commit myself to starting my business. Thank you so much for your video. I appreciate your willingness to share your wisdom and help with others. You have such a warm, sweet way about you. I want to check out some of your other videos.
Hi Dianne, it's awesome you've been doing it for so long and you're always learning more! Yes, there are many income streams with calligraphy (selling products, custom commissions, on-site calligraphy, teaching workshops, wedding related stuff, etc). Good luck on your business and thank you for your kind words!
Loved this video! It's nice to hear about people's story and that the fear I feel about pursuing a creative venture is normal! Thanks for sharing and being real Dina! 😊
I always always loved calligraphy. Just stated practicing again, as well as brush lettering right before pandemic. It’s something I really love doing and it’s so relaxing. Definitely thinking that starting a side business wouldn’t hurt. Thanks for sharing your journey. 🙏🏾😊
Hi Dina So blessed to have you placed on my path of this song we call life! Im a single Mom of twin (so handsome:):) young men in college and since the pandemic took away my PA to a wealthy CEO, I have ventured into this owning my own business journey, with my handwriting, creating custom versed, designed, and handwritten greetings and home decor. I so wish you were my neighbor, so I could ask you so many questions! Lol These videos are so very helpful and have taught me of things I need to improve on in order to make this GO! Im also a known singer in my Tri State area, no longer in touring band life, (too old;) and will apply some of these principles to my successful acoustic gig I now have. Thanks so much!! Blessings Michelle

Hi Dina, I have two Calligraphy course workbooks I bought two years ago (during the COVID peak ) literally gathering dust.Thankx fo giving me the motivation to work on them. I've always been interested in beautiful handwriting art etc. I'll definitely start off by mimicking your style!😁
Hey Dina, I just started paracticing calligraphy as a hobby. I love your personality and the business journey. Thank you so much for all the great info and good videos. You are such an inspiration to me.
Thank you so much Dina!! This was very encouraging! I’m currently on the edge on whether or not I should start a side business. I’ve been practicing for quite some time and even just had someone ask me to do a canvas decor project and was willing to pay me!!! I was mind blown that they came to me?!! Unfortunately I’m allowing fear to creep in so I haven’t decided how to move forward. The idea of having a business is something I could see myself doing but actually taking the step is the hard part.. 😔
That's so great to hear Marnell! Congrats on your first business offer!! It's normal to be a little nervous at the start, but just believe in yourself and don't be afraid to take that first step! Once you've done that, you'll realize it becomes easier. If I can do it, you can too!! 💪
Hi Isra! If you're on Instagram send me a message @dinacalligraphy and I would love to start a conversation with you and help you get started if you have any questions!
Thank you for this video!! I’ve been practicing/learning modern calligraphy for the past year & I would like to open my own business, but I feel too scared to LOL. I don’t feel like my skills are up to snuff. I haven’t been practicing much at all for the past 2 months b/c I finally moved out on my own & the move has been taking up all my time (plus I started a new job this summer). Idk how to get back into it or how to start marketing myself or anything
Hi Lisette, I'm glad you liked this video! It's okay to take it slow sometimes, I even did during the summer! You can definitely make calligraphy as a side business, my Facebook group (link in the description!) is a community of calligraphers that can help start up their business. You're welcome to join anytime 😊
Another great inspiring video. I think you relate your journey very well and can identify with what you are saying. Where am I in my calligraphy journey? Well I used to sell calligraphy paintings many years ago and now picking it up again.
I usually buy them on Amazon! On my Supplies for Starting a Calligraphy Business video (ruclips.net/video/z59KymBORU8/видео.html), you can download my Calligraphy Supplies and Equipment List. I'll keep in mind about making a video of my pens, thank you Lurlene! 🙌
Hi! If you're on Instagram send me a message @dinacalligraphy and I would love to start a conversation with you and help you get started if you have any questions!
Hi Sadie, unfortunately I don't. Taxes differ in each location so it's hard to make a video that would be applicable to all calligraphers around the world. Later, I might be making a video about operations.
