Hi Becca....I always wanted to learn calligraphy, I even attended a 5day workshop but couldnt learn even a single letter to write in calligraphy because its not something you can learn in such a short period of time. You need a lot of patience to actually learn it. I have tried it many times but after attending that workshop I could actually do false calligraphy and I got to learn basics of calligraphy but the fact is I cant write even a single letter perfectly. Saw your video on youtube today and I feel like now I will learn it somehow. I completely agree with your tip that we should do our hobby as a side husle and not as a main job as then we would enjoy doing it and not do it under pressure in which we loose our originality.
I did want to add one other comment. I've been very disappointed with a lot of different classes but I must say here publicly that your complete thoroughness i.e. emails, workbooks, videos etc., are so professional and complete! Going out of you way to provide FREE supplies to help newbies get started is amazing and much appreciated. I just took your Faux Calligraphy and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had difficulty getting started but someone on your team sent me an email and I was able to join a little late. So you also have a fabulous team!! I've never attempted this before and my work looks like a 5 year old did it but what you just said in this video is priceless "DONE is better than perfect" was my most valuable take away! Thank you for doing what you do!!!!!!!
Hi Becca, I just discovered your channel this evening. After 30 years, I am picking up Calligraphy, once again. During my college years I had my own business for a couple years. It brought me a little extra $, but life happened, and I went in a different direction. I have never lost my love for handwriting (like yourself), calligraphy, and illumination. So, here I am, once again. Thank you so much for sharing your experience, and amazing videos with us. You are a real inspiration. Have a great day.
Hi Becca. I am currently enrolled in your beyondthedrillscourse. And I am definitely learning a lot from you. Started from the free basic drills down to bouncingletters course. I can see a big difference from my day 1 up until today. I am just not that confident yet to upload my progress in social media. A friend once told me to upload it so I can see my progress. And now I realized you are telling us the same thing. Might as well begin doing that. Thank you for everything Becca. I just wanted to let you know you are inspiring me and I know you are also inspiring others with what you do. I also envisioned myself going to the same path as you. But a beginner like me has got so many learnings to do before I transition taking calligraphy into a business. Thanks for sharing your calligraphy background. ❤️
I am so thankful that I ran into your teachings first. You are very clear, methodical and very transparent. Thank you for your generosity I have learned a lot and you have cleared up many misnomers. Although I have tons of things on my "to do" list, I have been making time to include you!!! Again, thank you for offering your very best!!!
Thank you Becca! Not only and I learning SO much from you but I also like your videos because of being stuck at home due to Covid-19, I feel like my friend Becca is talking to me and it helps me not feel so alone! Plus I have come to LOVE Calligraphy because of you!
Becca, this new series is perfect....it’s exactly what I have been searching for. I am now enrolled in your class and am about to start numbers and symbols. I can relate to your story and is very similar to what I am experiencing right now, with not thinking my work is good enough to post. Thank you for sharing your story and I look forward to the new series! Kim
I searched many videos about calligraphy and found one of your videos. I really got interested on you 😍 .Now I am a new subscriber of your channel and.........a new student☺😊 I am practising well......... This video gave me some confidence too💪😊 thank you 🙂
I love your story!!..Thanks so much for sharing..I just recently started watching and following you when your name was mentioned in a video I was watching on "Brush Lettering"..I have had small hobbies to distract me during stressful times and illness such as card and jewelry making...You have peeked my interest now in calligraphy specifically "Brush Lettering"..So now I am now educating myself through your videos re: supplies, techniques & practice and enjoying every minute!..I don't have a lot of free time as I work in the field of nursing but I feel it could be a practical outlet to manage my stress..Thank you again
Yes I extremely enjoyed ur video it's really very inspiring for every one whether student or a worker.... ofcourse l am a student a biggest fan of your's.. near my house there is no facility of the tutor who can help me. but when l watch ur videos they don't make me feel that I am lacking any teacher. it's really very helpful thanx ma'am.
Thank you Becca for telling us your story!! You are blessed and found your niche!!😃 you are a great teacher and always encouraging us along the way!!😃❤️
Yes! Yes! You are one of my inspiration in continuing calligraphy. I remember when you announced you're going fulltime!!! I always go back to doing drills whenever my letters are getting bad. ahaha. Thank you ~
Becca!! I am LOVING this series!! This is the kind of series where I was desiring for and I think it fits you well. Because you are the one who always brings and openly discuss all these questions and topics that everyone is thinking about but not talking about enough. What I admire about you is your translucency and authenticity. Thanks for sharing your journey as always
You are the BEST!!!!! I'm following you from Colombia, and I'd loooooove to teach your drills on spanish, even though I'm not as pro as you are! But really I admire youuu!!!
I think you could gain a lot of traction making calligraphy content in spanish! Ingles es me lengua primera pero lo me encanta a espanol tanto. Creo que eso es posible un buen oportunidad. jiji
I started practicing calligraphy from your RUclips videos then your Teachable courses. It's been a little over a year since I have started and there is still so much more to learn. I appreciate all the new content that you are still putting out for us. Thank you Becca
Just loved this more personal insight of your business. This transparency makes it all more human and great. I would ask you to share how to organize your services/products for your clients, i mean what and how to offer them. Thanks in advance. Best, alfred from barcelona
Thanks for the 3 tips. I truly understand that "having it as hobby is so different from making a living out of it", that's why I'm still working at my full time job. I will try to post my projects but I certainly will keep practicing and learning.
Thank you for this! I stumbled upon one of your videos where you said calligraphy does not equal cursive (something like that, lol). I love writing but Cursive is my weakness. Since then I gave it a shot. Thanks for being an inspiration! I have a long way to go but you have ignited a creative part of me. You rock! ❤️
I’m just very happy, feeling blessed finding you while looking for calligraphy and lettering tutorials for me 😊❤️ I really enjoy your videos and all the detailed information you give. Thank you!!
Thank you Becca for encouraging us to start! I'm in the phase you mention where I can't sleep thinking about calligraphy 🙈. I love this videos so much, thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏🏻
This was so inspiring! I feel like I’m where you were in the beginning. What I thought would be a gift shop has morphed into so much more. Time management, responding to questions, serving others, family life, content creation, keeping up with social media, etc. I’m trying to keep up and would love some guidance on how to scale and keep both my love for what’s happening and my sanity in check ☺️
Becca that was very informative for anyone starting out on ANY type of side hustle, even if it's not yet a paying proposition in their mind. Whether or not people are into modern brush pen calligraphy, they need to tap into the small biz lessons you learned. Figuring out that "side hustle" is a whole topic in itself is both helpful and commendable. Your image and background come across well on video (I'm sure that has been learned along the way) and in contrast to other video presenters, you are using very few "ummms" . You found a way to encourage the public during a pandemic with your sidewalk chalk art inspiration which became media news. People need to understand the principle of "just getting started" and opportunities will present themselves as you develop yourself, and keep up the "YOU" focus. I'm sure you get much enjoyment out of your "work" (fun?), as well as the opportunity to work once, get paid many times with your digital workbooks. Folks looking to start new opportunities from home during this time of lockdown will draw inspiration from your new video series!
Really good advices Becca!! I'm just starting to teach calligraphy and this video is so on point!! 💕 💕 I gasped when I heard you've only started 2015. It's amazing how far you've come. Truly appreciate how generous you are with all the tips and tutorials
I’m glad you share your story, I learned using your free lessons. I really enjoy lettering because I use it as a d’stress activity, I never thought of earning money for doing that, but you are giving me some good advice. 🤔 Thanks
Becca, I loved this and I am so excited for more. I've been following along since 2016 and remember when all of the workbooks first came out! You've been such an inspiration to my calligraphy practice, and I got chills listening to this. Great tips!
Hi Becca, I love this video and can't wait to watch more of the series. I learned a lot from this video, not just from your three tips, but also from your past experiences. You are very humble and you are successful not just because you do amazing work, but also because you work hard, you are dedicated and you enjoy what you do. Thank you for sharing your story with us!
Hi Becca! Loved this video and found it so helpful. I was fortunate to find you somehow in late 2018 and you got me started on my calligraphy journey. Thank you!

Thank you for starting this new series. With all of this time at home, I have been practicing calligraphy every day! It allows me to focus on something positive and makes me feel calm. How long did you save money before you left your full time job and did calligraphy full time?

Great advice and inspirational story. You do have a talent with doing interviews and speaking to a camera. Maybe your next career is a talk show host. You do a bit of that when you bring on guests. I love those posts as well.
Love these, thank you so much for doing videos about starting lettering as a career! Can you do one in the future about how to get that perfect picture to post on Instagram, lighting and layout is a difficult one for me and yours are always perfect. Also, how to price your work. Also happy to use your affiliate link if you have one. Want to make sure I get the right one! Thanks!

Hi! I love your lettering, videos, and style! Do you have any tips for getting more followers on Instagram from calligraphy? Thanks
Yes, I second this question!
Me too
I would love to do this, or any art for that matter, as a side job but I'm so scared of having to do things for other people because I always have the fear of thinking it won't be good enough and they gonna hate it. That's just me but it's a problem.
You are so good
hi i am very new to calligraphy. I love to watch and learn from your videos. can you please put more light on how to make money out of this skill other than tutorials. thanks Keep Rocking !!
I would like some info on how to price calligraphy pieces such as quotes with or without flourishing or art work. Thank you!
could you add the link to the book you mentioned? please :)
Can you do a video on how to conduct modern calligraphy workshops?
I use calligraphy on my drawings.
I am interested in learning calligraphy but I am struggling because I am left handed. Are there any left handed calligraphers out there or any tips for left handed people?
Hi! Check out Younghae Chung (Logos Calligraphy) here on youtube.
