I wish someone had asked me questions 4&5 when I started my first side hustle as a teenager. I made clothes for myself for fun and I never wanted it to be a business but my family and friends were always on my case about wasting my talent and how much money I could make. I listened and monetised it but now I absolutely hate doing it and closed my business last year after making hundreds of masks at the start of covid.
I'm at the point where I can't even sew for myself and this thing I once loved is now a source of anxiety for me.
I studied art in college and recently started doing digital portraiture and the pressure has begun to monetize again. I love art a lot more than I ever did making clothes but I'm afraid to lose it. This is my biggest hinderance in taking that step toward turning it into a business.

My first side hustle was making jewelry. But then I didn't enjoy it as a business. Now with drawing, I like doing it and I'm starting with POD as a side hustle. As a 'retired' potter I totally agree with your #5 question! I thought, at one time in my life, that I could not breathe if I did not have my hands in clay. My creative love and my business were one and the same. And one day it just stopped.
Today I can look at other artists' clay work casually. I haven't had a love like that ever since. I thought I would be doing that into my retirement years.
Anyway, I'm currently casting about for the answers to #1. Since I've done the whole hobby to business drill in the past I am a bit more cautious.
Currently exploring painted shoes. Have made a whole 8 pair for family so far!

I started about 8 months ago by selling custom design butter dishes. Using my calligraphy and drawing of florals. I also like to paint on canvas, custom clipboards, chalkboards and window decor. It’s been busy with teaching full time on top of it, but I’m excited to see where the road takes me.

what I've realized about myself is that I love teaching and mentoring. I'm always drawn to creative activities, currently calligraphy and watercolor. I would LOVE to become really good and teach classes. Last night, I was dreaming that I was creating craft projects. It is always on my mind. I'm currently in retail buying and I'm an analyst and work with numbers and analysis of merchandise and store sales and not to mention I've been doing this for over 30 years. I would love the latter part of my life to be creative and something I'm in control of. Becca, I LOVE your channel and I love that you basically give free, really good information like this. I hope all of your followers really get how much you offer for free!! Thank you!!!

I always loved gardening but now that I do garden design as a business I can’t enjoy my beloved garden magazines or shows in the same way - I always feel I should be taking notes 😅 I’m currently expanding to drawings and art and know exactly that once it’s a business it will change for me. Luckily there’s so much to art that I know I will keep some part of it as a hobby.

Mine is hand lettering, painting and poetry. I designed custom journal covers and sold them a while back and LOVED it.
I stopped when I got pregnant 2 1/2 years ago because it took so much time to make each product and the profit was decent (hardly any investment/overhead), but i didn’t know how to grow it or take it beyond just a tiny side hustle. I sold a few hundred of them, but I started to see that it wouldn’t progress into anything. I got stuck.

Hmm I think about this a lot. I'm good at and love making cakes but I think I would find that stressful as a business especially from my home kitchen which my family need to use too. However my favourite part is making the cake toppers. The characters and ornaments (hand lettering comes in to that) and I have a dedicated craft room for that and would love to start that as a business and I would still have my hobby of clay ornaments for myself and gifts as well as my chalkboard signs. . .it's just daunting

I made the decision as a teen not to make being an artist my full time job because I didn't want to lose my love for it. I have been painting and drawing since I was small, and I couldn't imagine doing it on a deadline or for other people. Fast forward to now and I have struggled to find time for that hobby as an adult. I have started to get back into it but I've realized that I love paint mixing and color theory a lot, a lot. Everyday I have the chance to express my creativity and be around beautiful flowers and plants, but I honestly fell like chucking half of the plants I have in my house in the rubbish. Taking care of plants in my house feels like work and its not something I want to do in my time off anymore. I lost my hobby but I'm ok with it.

Thank you as always Becca for your business advice. A LONG time ago I used to have a business making handmade greetings cards (sold to shops through an agent in both the UK and US) It was a side hustle until I got a very big order for the US. The stress of scaling up so big for a very small profit took the love away (alongside the agent then selling the business to a company who bankrupted it and owed me money!) I tried to start up a small wedding stationery business afterwards but my confidence was dented big time and has never really bounced back…..although there is still a REAL longing to earn a living from my creative endeavours. I love baking and decorating cakes (but only for my kids- way too stressful) sewing (kids costumes, bags etc) and working with small children. I HATE marketing and client interaction 🤦🏼‍♀️ I find my perfectionism cripples me a lot too. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Uphill struggles.😉🤣

Thank you for this video series! And I honestly don't know. I went to college for graphic design & hated it, but got to take some studio art courses my senior year & I found both joy and stress in acrylic painting. From the number of projects I did & how fast-paced my schooling was, I lost my love for art by the time I graduated. BUT it has now been 3 years since then & I am dying on the inside working an office job. I think even if it takes the love away, I will never feel fulfilled if I am not doing something creative as my job.
So I think I am willing to lose my love of calligraphy, it just sucks. I wish there was a way to not lose it. I started learning calligraphy as a way to feel connected to my creative side w/o feeling the intense pressure I felt when sitting down to draw or paint post-college. Idk.
