As an older calligrapher from a different era, I know that this is great advice. Until you've had exposure to some of the tricks and techniques of the craft, the process can be discouraging and daunting. Finding a teacher to guide you at the onset of the process will increase the learning curve exponentially. And looking critically at your work is essential. Celebrate your successes and also always be looking at how you can improve your lettering. Finding a teacher and a community of friends who share your interest will fuel your creativity and communication skills. Yes, you need to do the work yourself, but if you do it in a vacuum you are more likely to get bogged down. I lived in a rural area so I traveled to study with great teachers and got involved in calligraphy conferences that introduced me to new friends who loved calligraphy. I've found that it is a skill that you can share and enjoy for a lifetime!

As a student currently enrolled in Shinah’s Modern Calligraphy 101class, now at Week 7, I could not agree MORE with how Shinah’s #3, is an INCREDIBLY helpful tip. It may sound vague, or “Yea, sure, that’s obvious!” But it isn’t until Shinah sends you a special tip here-and-there along the way on how “she” stayed inspired, that literally made me stop and think “Hey, I never thought of that!” Great tips! Great instructor! Supportive peers! What more can ya ask for?! 💕💕💕
Thanks for this vide! I am new at copperplate calligraphy like you I’ve tried so many different types of lettering but not been able to get great at it just ok. I finally feel like I’m making progress and doing something I’ve always wanted to be able to do so I’m trying to absorb as much information about calligraphy as possible.

But I have a question about internet teaching : if I am wrong at practicing because of the angle of my pen or wrist, is the teacher, on the other side of the screen, able to tell me that the problem is that one and how can the teacher fix my position? It has always been my question and the reason I still not register for a class and I really would like to. One more time thank you.
I'm looking for a good dip calligraphy pen. I'm not a formally trained calligrapher but my handwriting could pass for one. I can't seem to get good results with the italic calligraphy nib pens so I want to try the dip pen. I would greatly appreciate your suggestion.
