As much as I enjoy seeing beautiful writing and the techniques used to achieve them, I also greatly appreciate these technical aspects that help us choose the right tools and learn from your experience. Thanks, Shinah!
This is a fantastic Video. Comparing Nibs relative to surface/paper is really critical and usually what most Video's overlook and never mention. SO helpful to consider and understand. Thank you!
Brilliant, thank you very much. As a new starter it’s just what I needed. Your making the effort to put the names of the nibs against the sample text was perfect for screenshots for future reference. Greetings from 🇬🇧.
Thanks! Very helpful. I use the Hunt Imperial 101, but sometimes wondered if there would be another nib that has the same width variation (emphasis on ultra thin lines) but catches the paper less...
Nice comparison video! 🙂🙏🏻Just a couple suggestions: 1. zoom very close to the nib as you’re writing to see how the nib splits, to show how it created the wider line While also 2. Slowing video output to 40% of recording at 60fps if 24fps output video, or 50% if output video at 30fps, for half the example, to enjoy your art close up
I just received a calligraphy set with Dip Pen Set, oblique pen holder and a number of nibs. My writing looks terrible but I hope it improves with practice.
Finding the right Nib for oneself seems almost a sacred journey or pursuit! I think I've tried everyone's "favorite" but have yet to find mine! But I'm totally DETERMINED!!
Thanks for the comparisons! I’ve got to say, I’d love to see this exact video with some iron gall or another calligraphy ink. I don’t use sumi often due to it not having great hairlines. My go to pre- made inks lately have been the Scribal Workshop iron gall and J. Herbin’s Encre Authentique. They’re both great, both iron gall. Downside of the JH is that it’s very much grey when it dries, and the downside to the Scribal ink is it smells like Worcestershire sauce… o_O
Beautiful. I love seeing you write cursive with calligraphy pens . I did notice when you wrote you speeded up the video, but could I write quickly with these pens? I write fast .
Thank you so much for this video, I always hear about nib this or that but for us beginners it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Thanks for the demonstration before your video I had just put in an order but I think I ordered the wrong nib, I ordered a Zebra G nib instead of a Nikko G nib!
I can’t get anywhere near that thick a downstroke with my Nikko G, even using so much force i feel like i’m going to damage the paper. Do they wear in over time or anything? It’s quite new.
Found you. I'm just starting up caligraphy again after living life! So excited to learn about what is out there! Love lettering... Fancy, smanchy, lettering! Thanks for sharing your nib tips. I had no idea there was an offset pen itself.. Do you have a book?
Good video i am trying to teach myself how to write like that i think i have it but need the right pen and nib to try my skills i have been doing it with a brush pen
Someone just gave me a case of antique caligraphy supplies. I am just trying to sort it all and figure out how to use it all. How can I tell if a nib is still good for use?
Try it. Nibs are actually quite tough and unless they very rusty or smashed up, they are worth trying. However, remember that the nibs are made to provide a well defined line, not the writing comfort. Keep your touch light and study the line.
Hello, ur videos are nice but I wanted to ask one question. Which of these nibs will support the Jinhao X450? If any of them does, pls provide the amazon link to a single or triple piece of nib as I don't need 10 nibs lol
Hi, thanks for this tutorial, I wish to write on leather surfaces, as it is textured, I find it very hard to write with Nikko G, what nib do you suggest? :)
What nib do you suggest that is closest to a regular fountain pen nib? Are there any holders that would just take a #6 fountain pen nib? Wanted to use a nib and holder to test/record all my inks
where can you purchase the nikko g nib? i see it on amazon advertised as a manga pen, but i’m not sure if that’s the same thing. thank you for all your insight! very helpful. 🖤
I really don’t get on with the Brause Steno. Everyone raves about it but I find it flexes too easily. The ink seems to bead too much on the page for me, and then “ink dumps” quite often. Nikko G is the nib I learnt pointed pen with and is my go to!
@@tastysoup2194 oh thanks I'll consider it My new year's resolution included learning calligraphy but I'm having trouble finding a good nib from amazon
ou don't need an oblique nib holder, and you don't need a dip pen, to learn or write excellent calligraphy. This can be done just as well with a fountain pen and a flex nib. It's usually easier, in fact, and a lot more pleasant because you'll almost certainly get a better nib.
Flex nibs on a fountain pen don’t get nearly the variance in line that a dip pen can get. Most of the videos that feature a fountain pen doing calligraphy have been modded. Check out Goulet Pens for more info on fountain pens.
@@Stitchxavi Agree with this. On top of that, the price you need to spend on fountain pen nibs to get the same level of line variation you could get out of dip pen nib is really vast. The price entry point for flex nib with dip pen is so much lower it's ridiculous. I could get a Brause blue pumpkin steno, a nib holder, a bottle of sumi ink and calligraphy paper for less than €15. Fountain pen flex nib that works to the same degree would cost upwards €100.
bad/weird advice. to get a nib as flexible as a calligraphy nib, you either need to pay upwards of $300 or mod a pen with disposable calligraphy nibs. calligraphy nibs cost about $1.99. 😂

This was the most thorough review I have seen for pen nibs so far. The demonstration was immensely helpful.
Thanks for going into more detail than just saying that they are your favorites.
I really like the Brause Steno Nib. Beautiful lines and bold lettering. Gorgeous.

Thank you so much for your thorough explanation with using each nib!!! So very helpful!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEO AND THE DEMOSTRATION ON THE NIBS, PAPER AND INKS.
Just getting started.Thank you very much.I know where to go and what to use

Ty I just recently started beginning using calligraphy pens and was having a lot of issues knowing which nib and how to use them or how to work them
I LOVE those g type. And the blue pumpkin steno too- I have all of these 😂.

I got a bunch of nibs in a beginner pack and this was really useful. Thank you very much 😊
Learned alot. First timer, getting ready to buy my first set. Liked and subscribed.
Useful informations and beautiful calligraphy!
Beautiful. I love seeing you write cursive with calligraphy pens .
I did notice when you wrote you speeded up the video, but could I write quickly with these pens? I write fast .
Excellent love! Which gold metallic ink were you using? Thanks, 💕💕💛💛💗

Thanks for the thorough review! Which nib would you recommend for a beginner to write on cold press watercolor paper (it has texture)?
I can’t get anywhere near that thick a downstroke with my Nikko G, even using so much force i feel like i’m going to damage the paper. Do they wear in over time or anything? It’s quite new.
It does actually limit the kind of fonts you’ll use, some allowed more variety. Thank for your video .
Moon palace is my fave ink.
Found you.

Love lettering...
Fancy, smanchy, lettering!
Thanks for sharing your nib tips.
I had no idea there was an offset pen itself..
Do you have a book?
Oooohhh love the metallic ink!!!!
A wonderful introduction to calligraphy nibs. Excellently demonstrated. I learnt a lot from you. Thank you.
How about the smaller Hunt? And crowquill? I've never done modern calligraphy.
Good video i am trying to teach myself how to write like that i think i have it but need the right pen and nib to try my skills i have been doing it with a brush pen
Thank you for this useful clip.
Some say that Brause Steno runs out of ink fairly quickly. Is it so ?
My fave is tachikawaG. 66_EF is fussy. No brause rose nib?
Is the Nikko G also called the Nikko Manga Pen Nib G-Pen?
Remarkably intelligent presentation on the topic!

Very use information👍 thx a lot for your sharing!
Today was day 1 with a fountain pen....all I can say, is I'm glad there's plenty of practice time! Thanks for this!
These aren’t fountain pens 😅
What about the Brause Rose nib? Do you have one?
So glad you posted this!
I hear dip and ink contained in the barrel fountain pens both being called calligraphy pens, and some say just the dip pens--what's your take?
This is excellent. What nibs would you use for fractur and/or old English?

You can write on agate polished stone????!!!
Where are available these nibs and hown can we purchase and will what price including home delivery in Pakistan.
So your raise steno is your off road nib?
Can u use an ink cage w steno???
Your thumbnail says Browse instead of Brause. Maybe you could fix it?
Very good video and beautiful writing
where can you purchase the nikko g nib? i see it on amazon advertised as a manga pen, but i’m not sure if that’s the same thing.
thank you for all your insight! very helpful. 🖤
Hi do check luis creation Instagram
thanks. great video. great calligraphy.
You r a wonderful teacher
what nib will you recommend for making letter about 1/2 inch in total height.
Where can place order for these calligraphy pen
I'm in dilemma😂
Which one is averagely good at many things?
I don't wanna buy many nibs, instead just use the one so...
I think it would be the Brause Steno one as it seems to write properly on both smooth and rough surfaces. The contrast seems to be quite good as well.
I really don’t get on with the Brause Steno. Everyone raves about it but I find it flexes too easily. The ink seems to bead too much on the page for me, and then “ink dumps” quite often. Nikko G is the nib I learnt pointed pen with and is my go to!

Alot of calligraphy suppliers? like 2: John Neal in Greensboro NC, or Paper and ink., in Nashville TN. How bout video on your sources/ suppliers?
Ok, know nothing about this art but what is the pen holder angle thing all about? Is this a standard tool? Why is it angled like this?
It’s just more comfortable for some people to hold the pen holder at an angle, not required for anything.
Thank you! This was very helpful!
i have leonardt principle just an exact replica of hunt imperial....................
That steno is so heavy!!!!
Thanks for this video, VERY helpful!
What paper are you using?
So helpful.
I am pretty new to modern calligraphy and nibs and this was suuupper helpful, thank you ☺️
⚾️ very interesting
I love your eyes
Ohh. I have the Nikko G and a Zebra G.
Don't catch on your upstroke!! I found zebras were sharp and caught on upstroke.
Those thick heavy lines drain the nib too quickly.
good
An excellent and very valuable presentation..
Nice review.. thx
Tachy G is better n zebra or Nikko.
This is a very helpful video. Thank you
