    Thank you for such an informative and inspiring video.I've been experimenting with G nibs and the Brause Rose, now I think I need to try the Leonardt also.I wish there was something as soft and flexible as a Brause rose in a modern fountain pen.

    • @chiaraazzena3818

      +copperchef Yesterday I thought the same thing about fountain pen. I said, it would be amazing if I could put a nib on a fountain pen. So I started to make some research and I found that there's a special kind of fountain pen where you can put your nib, a Brause rose to. I think I will buy it next days. I love writing with nibs and it would be amazing to carry it with me in my bag!

    • @copperchef.
      @copperchef. 9 лет назад +1

      I've been using G nibs and Brause rose nibs in Jinhao x750 pens. They are kind of odd in that some fit better than others but more or less they do work. The Brause tends to rust very easily since its in contact with so much ink. I found the biggest issue is the feed has a hard time keeping up since the dip nibs use so much more ink but I just force a little more ink into the feed and it works fine. Good luck with yours!

    • @OpenInkStand
      @OpenInkStand  9 лет назад

      +copperchef You can try using a Desideratapens.com, those fit dip nibs. I've seen some hacks using a Noodlers pen, too.

    handsome writing, elegant, thank you for this I had read where Arthur Stace wrote for 35years the word Eternity on the footpaths of Sydney in copperplate and wondered what that was. The yr 2000 celebration put this word over the Sydney harbour bridge lit up it had impacted so many livesd there is even an opera about his life and a film. Thank you for this site.

    I recently did an "office clean out" and reorganization. In the process I found my nibs. Tried cleaning them up and was able to salvage a couple. I took up the hobby over 30 years ago and it truly fell by the wayside. Decided to watch some videos and came across yours. Oh my YOU are gifted and your work shows that you have put in countless hours of practice. thanks for the tips over at openinkstandblog. I realize now I have some pretty bid "tools". Would you be able to suggest to me the 3 best nibs to buy AND which nib holder is best. I notice yours are are quite different than what I've seen in stores. Thank you and all the best to you. Wow! Thank you so much for being such a huge inspiration :) I'm also so glad that you mentioned that some of the Gillot 303's are "duds". I had bought one before and loved it sooo much and used it until its breaking point. Automatically repurchased a stock more but was so disappointed by the second nib since it was being super finicky! But after watching this I can't wait to try the others out in case that one was just a dud!!

      +Cheryl Linaksita Yup, the new 303s can be a hit and miss. Don't feel too bad if it doesn't work.. just grab another one and see if that's better.

    I just started caligraphy because of pin striping bikes and other things. I absolutely subscribed to your channel, your videos are very informative especially this one. Thank you for putting this out htere for us. I have a cheap $5 hobby lobby dip pen and ink and i wrote with it on regular notebook paper and the nib skips on the paper and also collects paper chunks on the tip. Is this bc it is cheap nib and im using crappy notebook paper? what would the best paper to use be? also what is good ink at a good price?
    Thank you from a future caligrapher,
    Brandon

      Helmut.. Perhaps it would be be prudent to see if you can understand not only the tools she is using, or how to use them, but why she uses a technique. Of course, the biggest thing you'll find may be the most important is what Words will you write and for what purpose?

  • @makemyday1477

    I noticed some of the nibs did leave bleed out as you went down the page, is that because they're not a good metal or is it because it doesn't let the ink flow as smoothly? It's mostly noticed on the shadows, your first ones are nice crisp lines, the others look like they have hair on them. Or is that only due to the papers absorption? I'm new to this and I'm trying to understand all of the factors that could make the difference between a masterpiece and a mess, thanks for your videos.

I am looking to buy my first oblique pen holder, and I don't want to fiddle too much with the metal section that holds the nib in place, when changing nibs. If you have any suggestions on oblique pen holders I would love to know:) Thank you for sharing your beautiful handwriting and knowledge about penmanship!

    Great, once again. :-) Have you used the Gillott 170? Perhaps a slightly more consistent nib than the 303 at the same price ... not quite as fine but more flexible. At least that's my assessment! It would probably be quite a practical bet for someone like you who writes an awful lot and could do without the hassle of 303s going all weird without warning.

    • @OpenInkStand
      @OpenInkStand  9 лет назад

      GenWivern2 Yes I've tried that too.. but the 303 seems more popular? If I was to feature all the nibs I've ever tried I'll be here all day, haha. Maybe next time I'll review less well known nibs.

    • @GenWivern2
      @GenWivern2 9 лет назад

      OpenInkStand Art & Calligraphy Definitely more popular - and I still stick with them for those gossamer hairlines despite the crankiness. That would get on my nerves a lot more were I earning a living from writing, not that there's any chance of that! The little 170 doesn't seem to get much attention, but it's probably cost-effective. For some reason they seem to like gouache better than the 303 does. Anyway I'm all for more videos, please - whatever you want to cover is fine by me. :-)
