Interesting. Thank You. Have tried the red roofers with no luck. But hey, I cannot grow hogwart either, annoying. Duckweed absolutely. Frogbit to a point. Glad to see you back.
You are right, red roots are hard to keep alive. I use Hygger lights as well. I am currently having good success with them in 3 different tanks. They do really good once the tank is overgrown with them or they start to grow on top of each other. Once I remove half of them for credit at the LFS, they kind of start to not do good until they are able to get back up in numbers.
Hmm, this stuff grows on lakes around here, that's crazy to know it doesn't like hard water. So the lakes around here are soft and healthy I would de deuce
Thanks for the tip with water hardness. My tap water is something like 14kh and 8.2-8.4 ph. After one or two days my light, filter, and rim get covered in calcium. Takes three capfulls of ph-down to get my water down to just 8.0. Seachem's natural regulator also helps but instead of using a teaspoon (like they recommend) I have to use giant spoonfuls and it still doesn't get my water down to anywhere near 7. Might bring it up with my landlord cuz if our water was any harder you could pave a driveway with it. All my ludwigia and red root floaters died before I started mixing my tap water with distilled water. Gonna try again with softer water and see how it goes.
My plants were struggling to stay alive in high movement surface, I place a floating ring on que backpack filter and another on the plants to keep it even more calm, so far a few days they're starting to grow new healthy leaf
My plant multiplies quickly and has a beautiful red color. What needs to be done to make it bloom? - little water movement; - light 12h; - temperature 24-25 C; - micro and macro elements; - pH 7.6; GH4; KH7;

You need more light on your red root floaters and they will turn red. I guess I am lucky because my red root floaters grow like crazy. I have to clean it out once a week to keep it under control. I have grown it in high flow and low flow tanks, so not sure the flow matters that much. If it gets pushed underwater it will rot because it needs to stay dry on top like most floating plants. I also over stock my tanks, so mine have lots of nutrients which I think also helps floating plants. I would say this is a fairly easy plant do long as it has suffecient light and nutrients.
I melted mine cause I underestimated the heater and it was bringing the water to 86°F at the 78°F setting, so I lowered it to around 70°F to get it to stay at 78°F I have one that was in the Furthest corner from the heater and I hope it recovers. If not Im gonna have to make another trip to the fish store 😬I do have the tank in a corner of my apartment that gets almost direct sunlight, and the one surviving plant I have seems to like it but I’m careful not to fully open the blinds so the tank doesn’t overheat.
I bought some and began to die...maybe for the water movement of my air stone and sponge filter?? The leafs began to turn brown as well as for the roots....I just have the led light that came with the Aqueon 10 gal kit tank....any recomendation?
find something to block off the water movement. I use a floating feeding tray over the sponge filter to help minimize the water disruption. it isn't perfect, but it helps quite a bit. If you have enough red roots, the dead ones will create a barrier to prevent the water movement to the rest of the healthy ones. I, also, leave the light on for 12 hours a day.
Red root. Still doesn’t look good you need to move the led light low it still green and haven’t turn red it a light problem you need very strong light as it flowing plant you need humidity and stong light

Haven’t heard many people cover water hardness in relation to red root floaters, huge tips thank you !
mine did good inside a floating ring to stop water movement and give them something to push off of and grow up
Thank you for covering this. Love red root floaters but I don’t have the money to make softer water.
I just got red root floaters about a month ago , so far so good.

Any updates with the changes you made?

Laughs in tropical country
Actually it’s easy than you think. Need high lights for it to flower.

Wish I saw this before i bought them lol I’m on well water and they’re just ….dying. 😢
No water movement is what I have found out. I had to turn the sponge down a lot.
Well i got 10 in the post lol, let see how i go. Thanks for your advice.

Wait! Your TDS is 700-800? I've honestly never heard of anything like this. I thought mine was high at around 270.
Same, 235 here. He must be on west coast.
My red root tunr purple i use sobo cob led s
if you have decent LEDs and put them just a few inches away from the red root floaters, they will flower.

mine is alive for quite long…. but it is not red
