I've had a goldfish for about 3 years. For 3 years it's been living in a 1 gallon tank with no lighting. I just recently moved it into a new 6.5 gallon tank with LED lights. Do you think the goldfish should be stressed out by the new lights?
Fun video, but I have kept planted tanks for 30 years, you have not... Kelvin and par is important. One example, blue gets you algae! Ask me, anyone. I have spent tooo much time and tried almost every light out there. Tell me about your setup, and I CAN tell you what is best, or what is the cheap best, but will still work. 😀
Let me tell you something buddy. You ARE a salesman. An INCREDIBLE salesman! You are in a position in your life to share what you LOVE to do. Some of us aren't so lucky. You bring hope & excitement to the world around you. Thank you.
Coming from freshwater to saltwater and now back freshwater I can say that Tulio is a treasure. I listened to so many reef podcasts with him as the guest and he is so helpful with his he knowledge he has. Freshwater is truly behind the ball when it comes to lighting and I’m glad to see us start making some good strides. Ordering the Lumi lite for my discus set up that is in progress.
SO agree about lighting being subjective! The most extreme example I can think of is the lighting on saltwater tanks. I ABHOR the blue lights most often used on saltwater tanks. It looks nasty to my eye, makes all the colors funky, no matter how nicely laid out the tank is. I've only seen a couple of tanks (thankfully, nicely laid out) actually use full spectrum lights, but I LOVED them! The colors were so great! When I finally got back into aquariums, I wanted planted tanks, but I had a 29g kit from Petsmart. You know the one. It has a very dim light built into the hood. So I bought crypts they also sold. Those thing grew great in that very low, very narrow light. When I wanted more variety, yeah, I had to upgrade the lighting, but that base light worked great for the crypts. I have a variety of lights now, none of them expensive or high end. And I have all planted tanks, some heavily. I just buy the types of plants that work well with the types of lighting I have. People really need to stop overcomplicating this stuff. LOL
Didn’t realize so many people hated using an app for their light lol. I love the customization and will always choose a light that has that option now that I’ve been spoiled with it.
Couldn't agree more! The Fluval App is amazing and I like the sunset and sunrise feature to provide a more natural setting for the fish as opposed to the lights just coming on and off! Once you dial in the right settings for light intensity and duration, you never have to mess with your lights again!
I use Reefbrite on my saltwater tanks and refugiums, very happy and impressed by the light. As my wife and I are setting up a Betta tank, you just made our light choice very easy.
Thanks for this video. For me it is 3 things I need in a light. Grow plants, light level adjustment, & works with my home automation system. Most lights I tested would not come back on at the preset level, they always came back on at 100%. I found one that would always come on at that preset level. Now all of my tanks have these lights!! BTW, just waiting for my plant order to arrive!!
I agree with you on the lights and what it does in and for my tanks. How does the tank look, how do my fish, shrimp, how well do my plants do etc. Look. I like a crisper whiter light, built-in control (timer, dinner, and multi-channel), and yes a long cord. Great video!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I took your advice and purchased one of these today and it looks spectacular and totally brought my tank to life in high definition! Love your channel and both of your knowledge!

You are definitely correct, anytime you ask about lighting in any forums, groups etc you will definitely get a million answers all saying different things and some very passionate responses as well. Would you consider doing a Hyger Vrs Luma light Pros and Cons video. If I recall I got into Hyger because of one of your videos. I would really like to see what you have to say on the subject.
Another great very informative video John. Just ordered 2 of your powered sponge filters for 2 New 20L tanks. Along with some of your new plants. Hope they make it in the cold weather. Keep the Vid’s coming! 😊
The fluval light has interesting weather effects that really add to a natural feeling of a tank. Nothing beneficial to the fish but I rely on the app for automatic timers and schedules.
Awesome video, I love the information on lights, I went back to old school lights , submersible and connected with suction cups, .. oh one question, how many plants can I put in a 20 gallon ?
Awesome! So glad you're selling live plants now. I've got to say, when you did the side by side comparison of the two lights on the ludwigua tank...I liked the other one. Not the yjhtsi light. Yjhtsi light was too purple and fake looking. I prefer all natural looking tanks and lighting. Is the purple just a camera thing also?
Cool that you are selling your plants. Do we have to quarantine them after purchasing or can we just place them in the tank? Just a thought. Great video on lighting though.
Always quarantine bro. I used to think it didn’t matter much with plants as long it didn’t have signs of pest snails and you gave it a wash But somehow I introduced hydra into my tank on some plants or hard scape and it’s everywhere now Easier to get rid of hydra by not letting it in to begin with Now it’ll likely be a few months before I can have snails again as the hydra treatment kills snails for months on end even after multiple water changes The treatments lingers in silicone/hard scape. Just a mess. Do yourself the favor
They need to add a green channel so you can color balance. I find the fluval lacks in its ability to make deep colors pop, the chihiros wrgb 2 slim is my favorite. I really love the lights with an app But I can see how if you had more than 10 tanks it would be more difficult to use (I only have 6 tanks) .
This might be a dumb question and I apologize if it is. Can an aquarium light stress out your fish? I specifically have black and white skirt tetra at the moment with the intention of adding some neon and cardinal tetra
I put the "mini" fluval 3.0 on my betta tank. Turned up, my betta would dart under the filter and peek out. I took the light off, mostly because as John said, the app is garbage. I would 100% say lights can stress out fish.
Too much light can stress some fish, which prefer lower lighting. Floating plants can alleviate that, if you don't have a light that can be dimmed. Also, there's a great video about how blue lights people use on aquariums at night not only create algae issues but cause health issues in many (all?) fish over time. It affects their hormone levels and such. Really interesting info when I saw it. If you want the link, holler. I'll find and post it.
There is ONE exception to the "special light" for a "certain fish"-glofish :) I don't particularly agree with the whole altering their genetics but they exist and are kinda cool under a blacklist than not under a blacklight,ya know?
Ok, totally off topic, but can anyone tell me what that wood is in the background of the cichlid tank in the beginning? It doesn't look like the driftwood I usually see in these vids and I really like it. Looks like a branch fell off a tree into a river! Beautiful!
When it comes to planted tank lighting, Asians are a step ahead, I have no doubt that these lights will grow plants but the pinkish hue will steer a lot of people away (I've tried grow lights from GE, didn't like them) they gave my plants a very artificial look, and your are saying that these lights are not cheap up front, anyways I guess it's great news for people that like how they make the plants look, and are willing to pay the price, if I could afford an expensive light system I would probably go with ADA or Chihiros but that's just me.
Not a fan of the purple hue. Maybe I’d run them when we are not in the room if it helps the plants grow better but white light looks better in my rooms setting.
Yo, you going to offer these lights on your site in the larger sizes soon? I'm moving in a few weeks, and I've just been given permission to have the basement... the whole basement. Going to need some serious lightning!
Hey there ive been watching yalls channel for a while had have Betta tank of my own. My Betta love his plants and im wondering if yall could start selling DuckWeed. And my Betta is in a 10 gal so Tell Lisa that im taking care of my betta.
I have not tried them, people talk good about the light, but the app seems to be bad and it require an account and app updates on appstore is only in chineese
I hope you realize that a lot of people do like app controlled lights. Setting a scheldule without having to muck around with idiotic and unreliable timers is amazing. Fine tuning the color balance of the light to suit your preferences and needs is also great. You made a whole speech about the reds being redder etc.. Yeah. You can do that with Fluval's 3.0. You can do that with chihiros and their app. You're unwilling to use an app to unlock the potential of your light, but somehow a button with many preset modes is great..? By the way; Is the light and all it's components made in the USA? Or is it just assembled in the USA? There is a huge difference. I'm willing to bet money the light is actually just assembled using chinese parts.

I personally like the more natural light rather than the ones that put off a red hue.
Me, too. I'm a full-spectrum light girl. The closer to natural light, the happier I am. The more it deviates, the less I like it.
Agreed
That's why I chose Hygger full spectrum LED planted aquarium lights
I like a more natural white light, the pink/red hue all around the tank would drive me crazy. But the light does make the fish and plants look good.
I feel most users won't be hanging the light as high or on full blast.

👍😎 Does it have the ramp up and down feature? I like that.
Chat rooms became popular again in the former Facebook groups.
I have a current usa marine orbit ic on my 90 gallon peacock tank i love it
Very cool! But running MOST lights at 100% = ALGAE!!! Appreciate all ya do.
Watched your other video. Ordered the hygger light you recommended. Is this light any better for beginners? Have multiple plants I just started.
Im pretty happy with my smart hygger
What? No kitty helpers? 😻
Which lumi light pro would I use for 39 gallon bow front?
They look nice, I wonder if they help red plants grow. I've struggled keeping them alive thus far.
Looks like YJHTSI to me.
Also, those look like severum but I don't know.
I go for natural light
Hi there, where did you get the low, wide tanks in the first shot of your video?
Not a fan of the purple hue. Maybe I’d run them when we are not in the room if it helps the plants grow better but white light looks better in my rooms setting.
I wouldn't be able to sleep with that much rock sitting on the glass bottom of my aquarium. 😱
Yo, you going to offer these lights on your site in the larger sizes soon? I'm moving in a few weeks, and I've just been given permission to have the basement... the whole basement. Going to need some serious lightning!
Walmart 48 inch led 17$
Hey there ive been
watching yalls channel for a while had have Betta tank of my own. My Betta love his plants and im wondering if yall could start selling DuckWeed. And my Betta is in a 10 gal so Tell Lisa that im taking care of my betta.
The guy sounds like Joe Pesci😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yes
I bought a brand new aquarium recently but the light is built into the lid so I cannot get a custom light for it like the Fluval one with bluetooth.
Wonder how these compare to the Chihiros lights. They certainly seem more affordable
I have not tried them, people talk good about the light, but the app seems to be bad and it require an account and app updates on appstore is only in chineese
What’s the par at 12 inches of dep?
