I managed to get a species spotlight together for you guys today! going to TRY to keep up at least with 2 videos a week, one more vloggy style and one information based as time permits. Your support has been AMAZING. Thank you! Things are getting better, but still very demanding of my time. I hope you enjoy this little ditty about a really versatile little floating plant!

Rachel O'leary you are amazing!! I wasn't expecting to see any videos from you in a while, but to my delight ( and lots others, I'm sure!! ) two videos this week!! Please pace yourself - you and your families health is top priority.
Rachel O'leary i hope your family is doing well. Im glad to sed you up and moving. I love your videos. Keep up the good work and continue to educate. Its also just nice to hear your voice again.
Rachel O'leary I hope things continue on the positive! I took care of both my parents as they suffered and succumbed to Alzheimer's. So I know what you're going through in taking care of your family. But make sure you find time for yourself. Even if only a few moments. Good luck
So glad to see another video from you! Please take as much time as you need! A vaguely interesting note: I learned that pretty much all the floating pond plants are illegal in Alabama. Apparently because they are invasive in southern AL. Even though northern AL gets cold enough to mitigate the 'invasiveness' of those plants, it's a statewide thing. Makes more sense as to why I can never find these!
Rachel O'leary always a pleasure to see you and learn from you. 💕 I hope things are going well with your family!
Rachel I just want to offer more prayers for your family.i hope
your daughters depression is already
Under control and she is enjoying life again. Also for Chris that he heals fast and well and that nothing long term arrises.also the pressure on your older daughter must be immense also. You try and stay strong.
Hi Rachel. Your voice sounds less stressed. Good to hear. I hope your family is getting better. Hang in there. That which does not kill us makes us stronger. Lol yah. Sounds good right? Hang in there
I remember having a mild (but chronic) depressive episode a few years ago and abandoned fish keeping for some time because of it. And I feel overwhelmingly inspired and energized watching you facing all those extremely challenging circumstances and still dedicatedly work to keep your fishroom and backyard projects running (and meticulously recording and sharing them with us online). Bless your inspiringly strong, fishy heart.
I try. Some days I do not manage to do anything for my projects but it gives me a lot of joy when i do, so i try and make time to feed my inner geek and bring you guys along with me. I am disappointed i have missed so many videos and so many things i would like to share with you guys, but some days there just isn't time to grab the camera and set up equipment. It is getting better each day so i am hopeful i will be more consistent going forward.
Well said auelasuka, I could not agree more!
I hope things are getting better with your family you and your family have been on my mind a lot
Tropica and Dennerle both do a great range of floating plants if anyone’s interested, lots of variety.
Tropica has excellent quality too
Mine flower constantly in my tank with a cheap top fin light. The flowers are super dense too
Very neat little plant, thanks.
I can tell by how relaxed you look, and how vibrant you are when you speak, your family is doing much better.
Better every day! Hubby's life is no longer in danger from the dvt's he developed so i can breath. He and my daughter make progress every day. Things are on the upswing, now it just will take time
Keep being awesome!
cool really nice plant ,your lookin great hope things are getting better with your family ,clearly your a very strong woman
Nice plant looks fuzzy
I have some. It's non-fuzzy but does have a sort of crinkle on the leaves so I couldn't really call them smooth. hard to put into words :-)
Wow! I never knew these flowered! I love floating plants, but have had such limited access to them that I have never had red root floaters. I really want some now though! Thanks for doing a spotlight on these, I feel like floaters such as these, duckweed, water hyacinth, frogbit and so on don't really get much love, and I enjoy them all so much! Well done and informative as always. I hope your hubby, daughter and yourself are all doing well and healing up fast. Lots of love to you and your family! 💕💖🌸
Rachel, I'm not a regular visitor but I do hope your knee surgery came out okay.
Super stoked
Pray your whole family is healing. Nice to see you.
I just got my first batch for my indoor pond
Great to see you...fantastic video!
Always thinking about you and your family. and always happy to see you still taking the time in making more videos. I always enjoy watching and listening to you. I have learned so much from you.and would love to meet you some day in person.So take good care of yourself and I always look forward in your up coming videos. Thank you for making my day.
just got some last week love them
Awesome floating plant 👌Thanks for sharing Rachel 🤗😀
Pretty plant. Take care dear lady 🌸
Rachel seeing the plants you keep make me wish I had a green thumb. My very black thumb insures I can't keep any plants alive. This includes a simple ivy. I'm so glad to hear the family is doing better.
By far my favorite floating plant.
Hey bob
Hi! Hope all is well, i havent bugged you in awhile since i know you have a lot going on =)
Hope the hubby and daughter are doing well 💜💜
Love it
Love it.
Wish I could find this plant near me!
I'm so glad you managed to get some'oxygen mask' time with everything going on. You look so much less stressed than you did, and it's good to see. Keep hanging in there, you've got this, and you have so many sending you strength and love ♥️ now I'm off to source some of this beautiful plant for my Amazon biotope!
With high light those get really deep red.
I have never seen that plant before but it sure is nice! I'm going to have to give that one a try on my water garden next summer!
Great video! You're looking very slim! Hope the family is doing well and healing up! Love watching your videos! Very informative and interesting!
Love ya ❤ best of success in all your endeavors
These are soooo beautiful!! I want them for my Betta tanks!!
I bought a floating plant from Amazon called water spangles. It looks like a smaller version of frog bit to me and I really like it. It does grow very fast in my aquariums though. I started with 12 plants and now have to many to count in just a couple months. Great video Rachel. I really enjoy your species video be them plant or fish
I grow these in a 10g tank with a 20w led flood light 6 inches above them. They grow fast and easy to flower
Very cool. I hadn't even realized they could flower until this season. One of the reasons I love this hobby so much is I am continually learning
I love the leaves on that plant. Very pretty.
That is one beautiful plant!
I got some of these a while back and didn't have any luck with them ... seeing how lovely yours are, I may try again! So good to see you out in the fresh air!
Red Root Floater is hands down my favorite floating plant.
Always inspiring me to add to my collection! The best part is that you really take the time to explain the care requirements too 💖
These cuties look like ninja turtle chests.
It's always lovely to see you, Rachel. Thanks for the visit. Hope you and yours are healing with the passage of time and loads of love and support. You are a phenomenal woman, Fish Pimp and don't you forget that, in those darkest moments. I know how overwhelmed I felt and how I questioned everything when my daughter encountered similar problems yours.... and thats only one of the things on your plate!
Just believe in the power of your love and just keep swimming on sweetheart; trust the current to take you all to where you need to be in order to thrive once more. There will be happiness and good times again. Take it from one who knows.
Love, light and best wishes all the way from the UK.
I have just recently seen these plants online and was wondering about them. Thanks for the spotlight and hope you and yours are improving with each new day.
Hey Rachel your looking good as ever so glad you r back 😚😚
Love this plant. It's really pretty and I enjoyed this video!
Fantastic Rachael, I’ve never seen this in Australia, it’s beautiful.
❤️ you’re doing a great job!!! BIG HUGS from me to your beautiful family ❤️ I’ve never seen this floating plant before! I think I’ll try another out door feature again & maybe get lucky out in LA’s Chinatown....
This is a really cool plant! I’ve never heard of them before, but they seem like the perfect plant for what I have been looking for. Thanks so much for the video! :)
Beautiful little plant. Love it in my tanks.
Those plants are so cute. Wish I had the lighting conditions for it.
I LOVE LOVE the red root floater...and I must say Ive never seen nicer ones then what you have in your greenhouse. I had some once but they did not make it in my tanks
Nice to see you. Look forward to next video.😘😘Hope all of the family is well and you're planning your vacation for Oct or so by yourself💘💘just kidding.
Hahahaha. I am thinking a tropical trip will be on order!
Really like that plant! Love my floating plants and have low light tanks. Interested in the next video on them
Aloha Rachel awesome video and love that floating plant need to get some, love the content and hope the Ohana is doing better!! Nothing but good vibes, blessings, Love and Aloha headed your way for you and your Ohana!! Much Love and aloha!! Braddah Mel🤙🏽🐠🤙🏽
"All In all" lol beauty for sure looks like brains lol
My plant (Red Root Floater) multiplies quickly and has a beautiful red color. What needs to be done to make it bloom?
- little water movement;
- light 12h;
- temperature 24-25 C;
- micro and macro elements;
- pH 7.6; GH4; KH7;
Love the Red Root Floater plant, wished I knew about this plant just one day earlier, I just bought Frogbit! Will try it in the future, thx for the info, learning a lot from you! Continued healing prayers for your family & you.
Frogbit is great as well!
I'd love to see how this plant would work inside your aquariums! low light no fert is what my tank is.
Keep it up. Stay 💪.
I’m so excited to learn more about this plant! I’ve been so curious about it ever since I saw it as you were going through the greenhouse with us on instagram.
When you have a chance, can you do an update on Captain Cranky pants and Whiskey? And their tank? Oooh and also the giant $$$ plant? I love all of your fish. I know it's a hard time right now, so don't feel pressured, I just really love that Oscar and catfish 😂 take care!
Absolutely! If you follow me on Instagram @msjinkzd I just put up two videos this week of captain's poutiness lol
Awesome plant! I want to get some!
@Rachael O'Leary:
Flowering Red Root Floaters: you're gonna' need to get into Beekeeping, methinks! *_:D_*
My family wants to but I am allergic so hVe been hesitant
@Rachael O'Leary:
Hmm... I'm on the fence then. Definately Bee Suit is a must, but... I dunno', possibly don't do it? But then I see something like this, and I wonder: ruclips.net/video/WbMV9qYIXqM/видео.html
Excellent Video. Thanks for that info. I know now the light in my tanks is to low for it.
Nice video. I just got some RRF. I haven’t had it in years. Hope all is on the upswing!
Cheers,
Chris
Wow nice red floaters need myself some for bettas
This would be great especially for bubble nesters
Are you going to sell this on your website? I've been looking for a good floater for a while, and this one seems to be everything I'm looking for.
Hi Rachel, what kind of floaters would you recommend for a 30cm cube tank?
love it! Will it work in the Pac NW? Acid soil / conifer leaf fall, some sun, cool temperatures, but only freezes @ 1-2 weeks a year. Thanks much!
Probably, I only have experience with it here
I like that one, very pretty, how cold resistant is it?
I am not sure. Being an Amazon plant and not on the federal noxious weed list, I would think it's cold tolerance is poor but that is just a guess
How long do the roots grow? do they grow as long as amazon frogbit? great video
I ordered some of these from an online dealer and what a mess. It was a cup of muddy mess with nothing but loose leaves with no roots. ...definitely not ordering plants online anymore, but my fish ive ordered online have all been great and alive...well except for 1 panda cory that i have no idea where it is
I love these so much! They seem to be harder to find :( I am afraid to buy off amazon or ebay lol
What beautiful color they have but I'm going to stick with my easy to grow wisteria 😊
Embarrassing fact: I cannot grow wisteria to save my life
I need your help if you have the time. I was just given 2 - 29 gallon tanks complete with filters, lights, stands, everything! I brought one home and scrubbed it outside before bringing it in and setting up. I had some substrate that I washed a couple weeks ago and I put that in and it muddied the water badly. I have 2 filters going on it now and can see a slight clearing but not much. So here is where I need your advise, should I drain it and start over with fresh or just let the filters do their job? I have a larger pea gravel and sand I want to add as well. Tomorrow I will go pick up some sponge filters to add to it. I have seeded sponges I can put in when I get the new, but wanted to get your opinion first.
Are you going to be selling any red root floaters?
Hi Rachel, I have this same species in my aquarium, Phyllanthus fluitans, under 11 hours of light, but it just doesn't seem to like it here 'cause there's like a third left of what I started with, and what is left is turning a yellowish green, so I think I'll loose that too. Any thoughts? Does it need longer light? All my other plants are doing fine by the way. Thanks for your video's!!
It may need some iron or other macro nutrient
Hey Rachel! Quick question, I have a couple small black moors and they’ve decimated my frogbit and duckweed.. any thoughts on keeping this instead?? Will it fare any better?
hello
Do the white flowers have a nice aroma?
Not that I could tell
So I just got some red root floaters about 2 months ago for my 20g long inside and they have been reproducing and flowering like crazy for me. However mine do not have anywhere close to the red color or root structure these have. I have a planted plus2.0 light on the tank and fertilize using mostly all of seachem’s products, including iron. Anything else I can do to increase the root structure or redness of my plants?
Are these legal in California? I know water lettuce isn't. Not sure on frogbit etc.
I have seen this for sale but only have 10 gal. Set up for plants. What do you think.
Do you sell red root floaters
Can this plant be planted into a good substrate and used as a carpeting plant as well?
No
Does this do okay with surface movement?
My plant is not getting red colour ☹️ any help will be appreciated thankyou
Pretty plant(I've never seen it in the UK unless some specialist plant keeper's have it)
Do you think the very hot weather may have made it flower in the tubs Rachel?
Just checked,it's available on ebay!
Barbara widdowson Do you have the seller's name? Want to see if I can have it shipped to Denmark.
I think it was the light intensity
I just put red root floater in on ebay search and a few sellers came up.
Hope this helps.
Hi, Barbra and Milli, I'm drowning in this and 4 other floating plants because they grow so fast. I've got 3 tanks full and have been putting it in the pond but there is no room left. I'd love to send you some of it if you know how to organize letting me know where to send it. I hate the idea of wasting any life but it's smothering the plants in the tanks below. I'm in the UK and happy to post anywhere if you will cover the postage cost.
Estas son las mias,espero os gusten:
