I done all that for ages, I still get up a couple of times a night. What l do now is go to bed at the same time everyday and finally get up 9 hours later. I don’t worry anymore about my sleep, if I get 6 or 7 hours of sleep, is completely fine. I am never tired anymore, cause I don’t worry. If I wake up and can’t get back to sleep, I listen to a guided meditation, eventually, I will get back to sleep. Too many people already, telling you how many hours or how much sleep you need, but every one is different. As long you feel good the next day, you will be fine. Don’t worry you won’t die. Don’t be anxious about your sleep and you will be okay.
eating with just vegetables for dinner and taking magnesium glycinate helps. I swear anytime I just eat steamed Broccoli with a little sea salt........I don't awake wide awake around 2am and just lay there and the nocturia is not as bad. I'm so used to it I just keep a milk cart by my bed to quickly pee in and then just go back to sleep.
I am 78 years old man, I don't get up to pee in the night. I owe this to Saw Palmetto. I started taking Saw Palmetto at the age of 40. I have been taking one capsule a day.
Gentlemen's agreement; I'm 68 and my doctors think I should get surgery to reduce the size of my prostrate (I take 2 Flomax capsules daily). I don't feel ready yet for surgery, so am putting it off. On average, I get up 2-3x per night to pee, but sometimes only have to get up once. I am following all your tips and often think my peeing over 2x per night may be psychosomatic (I suffer from Health Anxiety as well). Thank you and keep up the great advice!
I got the REZUM procedure, It uses steam, simple & super effective greatest thing I did for myself. Night pee was difficult. Now 66 no meds. No issues.
I'm being treated for an overactive bladder. However, I've noticed that if I'm concentrating hard on something, even a conversation, I don't get the urge. Could the trouble really be psychosomatic??
I am 81 yr old male and I live in Canada, when I can I make peanut butter cookies using ready mix dough and finely ground up marijuana buds generally making about 36 cookies. The first night is trial and error not wanting to get high, there after I might try 1/2 or 1/3rd of a cookie. Been doing this for about 4 yrs now. It does not always work but most nights I can easily get 8/9 hrs. uninterrupted sleep a couple of times even 10 or 11 hrs., what a nice feeling.
I don't eat anything after lunch. I don't drink anything after 6:30 pm. I make I go to the bathroom before I go to bed but with an enlarged prostate, it's hard to double void. Sometimes I'm in the bathroom for ten min. I always wake up 2, 3, 4 times during the night.Sometimes more. I'm very healthy, in shape, non diabetic 64 year old. I'd give almost anything to sleep more than 2-3 hours at a time without haveing to make a trip to the bathroom.
I don't eat any high GI carbs (bread, pasta, rice, etc). I stop eating & drinking at 4 pm sharp so I don't eat or drink 6 to 7 hours before going to bed and I still pee at least once during the night. I keep an empty liquid laundry detergent bottle (large screw on top & handle) next to the bed and pee in that. Don't even have to get out of bed or open my eyes. I'm 75.
Great video. I’ve tried the double void without knowing it was called double void. My problem was thinking I needed to take medication with a lot of water. Thank you for the info about not needing to consume a lot of water at bedtime. It helps. No late night bathroom visits.

Start small and maybe switch to unsalted nuts so that you have something to snack on while you try to cut down all together. Just stay away from the carbs and sugar. You need a bit of joy at night :)
Hi great video but for some people the cause of peeing at night is an enlarged prostate gland I see you don't mention this as a possible cause but if people with an enlarged prostate eat lycopene which is found in water melon and pomegranate seeds and tomatoes each day this will help shrink the prostate gland and also combining this with your 321 method I think this will help a lot of people with this condition also it will also help for a strong pee stream stop start peeing also strengthens the muscles down there and pelvic floor exercises there are also prostate tablets with lycopene in in health food shops altogether success 😊

One of the many issues and signs of diabetes or even prediabetes is polyuria (production of large volume of diluted urine). Before any of the steps presented in the video can be of real use, you need to fix your (pre)diabetes. For me that was done with keto. And of course sugary foods, snacks, alcohol before bed - even a few hours before - will increase your urine production.

Great I will give it a try I have prostate cancer very early stage up 2 to 3 times at night following similar approach to yours although I have been told my prostate is not abnormal size for my age. My treatment at present is I am on active surveillance with regular check ups and 2 to 3 MRI per year. I will try for a week and comment back.
At 70 as male doctors diagnosed over active bladder but when I stopped tea and cold drinks afternoon I was able to sleep whole night without peeing in the night.
I have been taking Flomax for years. Will your method help me not need this medication in the future? I am 74 years. Thanks, what you say makes sense. I'm guilty of consuming after dinner so this may be the root of my problem.
It really depends on your situation. If you can get your symptoms sunder control, you can discuss with your doctor trying to come off it (if appropriate for you).
I have been using Dr. Eric's method for the past couple of years. It has really helped me a lot. It has extended my sleep during the night where I now get 5-6 hours of sound sleep. It's no longer difficult to go back to sleep for a couple of hours. Thanks for the valuable info.
About 7:00pm each night my head starts to heat up and I look like a glow worm! Then I start peeing and go at least every half hour until bed. Sleep is shithouse because I toss and turn and every time I turn over I feel all the liquid in my bladder. Up I get, then again and up at 3. Bliss 😪
Gentleman agreement. I am a post-bilateral lung transplant patient. Over time, I got myself a dozen other ailments like diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Hypertension, etc. It's the first time I have come across the 3-2-1 system. I will try it, but usually, I do not drink any liquid 3 hours before hitting the bed, but still, I wake up 3-4 times to pee. I pee in large amounts and wonder where so much came from.
Managing the symptoms allows men to regain a sense of normalcy while they work with their urologist on a long-term plan to address the BPH itself. As you likely know, reducing prostate size is often difficult without medical intervention, but focusing on symptom management can significantly enhance daily life, regardless of the prostate’s condition. By controlling the symptoms, men can maintain better bladder function and comfort as they explore options for treating the underlying cause

I tried double voiding but cannot do it. Does that mean I have no fluid retention in my bladder? I don't eat or drink 3 hrs before going to bed but still always wake 3 hrs after going to bed to urinate. Why might this be?
Prostate issues or insulin/blood sugar issues come to my mind if you still wake up to pee even when not eating or drinking 3 hours before bedtime. Might be worth going to the urologist and get some blood work done.
I'm 57 & love to drink a glass or two of water a night the mouth gets dry I will try & stop 😮 but I'll start with one glass & not the second here goes fir they've of health 😊
Well this works for everybody I'm a female 78 years old with renal failure 3. I take pills first thing in the morning between 7:00 and 8:00. I have a 16 oz bottle of water or drink with no sugar in it. Ice cream no sugar. Candy with no sugar. If I drink anything after 7:00 I'm up half the night going to the restroom so that works for men and women. And so you know my mother after 5:30 in the evening we weren't allowed to drink anything because of having accidents in the bed. So it's actually for guys and gals😊 and I don't normally don't go to bed until after 11:00 until my daughter comes home from work so about 5:306:30 is when we have dinner.
I can attest this truely works As long as you follow the rules OF 321 My routine Finish Dinner B 4 7.30 pm Last drink of fluid 8.,30 pm use Bathroom 3 times B 4 i go to bed 11.30 Sleep 6+ hours wake refreshed Drink tea twice & coffee once during day none after 4.30p I drink warm /cold milk with all my meals. Hydrate with cold Boiled water not tap during day Iam 83 & 82 kg very fit. swim 3klm a week do 60 (2) 80 pushups daily & 30 squats as well
I stopped 10 years ago when i started low carb. Since then I have gone from that to Keto and now Carnivore, and I intermittent fast, sometimes EF. I haven’t woken up to pee in the middle of the night, even once, in over 10 years.
I take flomax and work overnight. it's difficult to stop all fluids that early, but I will try. I had been pretty good for awhile but lately my 7-8 hours of sleep have turned into waking every 2-3 hours and struggling to fall back asleep. I also have an anxiety about oversleeping - usually when I'm up I stay up because I feel I will oversleep if I go back to bed or I wake in the middle of a sleep cycle that will leave me less rested. I'm going to try this exactly, it's rough with my schedule but I know if I get that restful sleep back I will have a lot more energy on the other side of it.
Thanks for your comment. Try boxed breathing when you wake up in the middle of the night. This works for me. I take a 5 sec inhale, hold my breath for 5 seconds, exhale fully for 5 seconds and then hold my breath again for 5 seconds. I repeat this until I'm back asleep
Your situation is extra complicated given the one kidney and you want to avoid stressing this organ. I would discuss this with your kidney specialist as this is out of my scope of practise
I'm 32 and I can awake 2-3 times when sleeping. I already took my time like that double void method and it doesn't work, it never works. Now that I think about it, as a kid till teen I often wake up once to pee but then I also drink water after peeing. I have tried the don't drink 2 hours before bed, but I still wake up. Although I may not have the urge to pee when I'm awake, I still go to pee, because I thought I don't want to continue my sleep interrupted later. If I don't drink, I end up peeing very little or tea like colored, that it scares me. So I cannot if I don't drink a bit. Now I don't know what will work. If I get to sleep uninterrupted for 5 hours, even I get surprised. Maybe my brain is already wired different at this point, since I often get the urge to pee in my dreams. It results I can even pee in my dream although thank goodness I don't wake up pee in my bed 😔 I really miss the time I can time travel 8 hours of sleep without waking up.
Tanks for this comment. If you're not waking up from the urge to urinate, it would be worth while going to get a sleep apnea text completed. It could be that you're snoring and breathing disturbance is waking you up and then you've built a habit surrounding going and emptying your bladder. It's worth chatting about this with your doctor.
If it were only that easy! I already do these things, at least to some extent. My natural sleep cycle is to wake every two hours, then need a pee. If I sleep longer, often my bladder locks up, and I find it hard to pee. Lying down for ten minutes for the second flush helps. In the morning back to normal. One thing that really affects me is a pollen allergy, when tree pollen is at its height, I could be up every hour, and only get a trickle. Perhaps twice a year, in winter, low pollen, often after a long period of exercise, so dehydrated, I may sleep for six hours. I am 68, and probably didn’t do my bladder any good drinking too much beer in my youth. I have accepted it and don’t get too stressed by it, though it does sap energy. I am considering getting a whole house ventilation system with HEPA filters to remove pollen.
Great vid, Eric. I'm subscribed and hit "like" on everything and follow your videos for great tips, using whichever relate to my situation. I have MS and my bladder/bowel control is compromised to a degree. I use intermittent self-catheterisation each night at bedtime to completely empty my bladder and again 1-2 times through the night although sometimes it's more. I take 50mg baclofen to reduce urgency and I do your pelvic floor stretches every night before bed (serpent pose, static lunges each side, "happy baby" and adductor stretch). I also roll on a tennis ball. All have helped a little but I think I'm at the limit of what they can do. I also follow your advice in this video except for avoiding dark chocolate for 3 hours before bed. I avoid drinks for about 2 hours (and don't touch any caffeine or alcohol at all) but my last food is only about 2 hours before bed so I'll try to extend that a bit including the small amount of dark chocolate. Thanks for all your helpful advice. I know I'm a non-standard case but I still gain benefit from your wisdom, sir.
Very enlightening and it works. It’s easy listening to your videos. Your techniques and advice have been most helpful. Keep going and create more videos we all can benefit from.
I have the nasty habit of waking up twice at night at the exact times , within five minutes. Of course while I'm awake, I head to the bathroom but I don't think the initial wake up isn't caused from the urge to pee......what do you think ?Would love to change this sleep /wake cycle
Have you ever tried delaying this urge, distracting yourself and going back to sleep? I find boxed breathing (5 sec inhale, 5 sec breath hold, 5 sec exhale, 5 sec breath hold helps me out with this

WOW so very amazing Dr Eric Leckie
Glad you think so!
I tried double voiding but cannot do it. Does that mean I have no fluid retention in my bladder? I don't eat or drink 3 hrs before going to bed but still always wake 3 hrs after going to bed to urinate. Why might this be?
Gracias Doctor I will try...
Been doing this for many years have no issues.
Double void......that's new. Number 1 is the more common term yes?
So if we follow the 3-2-1 method..we can do the opposite 4-5 hrs before bed?
I will give it a try Thank You
Did it help?
I go almost three times a night 1 3 and 5:30 wish it one time about three
Better than pissing in your sleep!
So it's actually for guys and gals😊 and I don't normally don't go to bed until after 11:00 until my daughter comes home from work so about 5:30 6:30 is when we have dinner.
Yes it will work for women as well!
I can attest this truely works As long as you follow the rules OF 321 My routine Finish Dinner B 4 7.30 pm Last drink of fluid 8.,30 pm use Bathroom 3 times B 4 i go to bed 11.30
Sleep 6+ hours wake refreshed Drink tea twice & coffee once during day none after 4.30p I drink warm /cold milk with all my meals. Hydrate with cold Boiled water not tap during day
Iam 83 & 82 kg very fit. swim 3klm a week do 60 (2) 80 pushups daily & 30 squats as well
Is this works for incontinenence of urin.?
Kept the agreement I’ll give this method a shot although I feel I do something similar already
Thank you, I appreciate you. Keep up the good work!
I bought plastic sheets years ago. I no longer get up to pee.
Genius
lmao
No diapers?
gentlemen's agreement/ Good work...
Thanks Sam, welcome to the channel 🤝
I do observe bubble in my urine and l did kidney test and the result is positive but l feel there shouldn't be bubble in urine. What do you advise?
🎉 great job
yes , I always do double void to keep my bladder empty
💪
I don't eat or drink anything past 530 and I still get up and pee,I even pee before I go to bed
Go and run some blood work with your doctor to make sure everything is okay internally. It might be a simple fix for you
Thank you, so clear and right on point!
You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed!
Thanks
You're welcome!
I stopped 10 years ago when i started low carb. Since then I have gone from that to Keto and now Carnivore, and I intermittent fast, sometimes EF. I haven’t woken up to pee in the middle of the night, even once, in over 10 years.
That's fantastic to hear, Jeff. I'm personally practise IF at the moment and am really enjoying it.

I’ll start trying the 3-2-1 method. But, assuming this helps, what should my strategy be when I wake up hungry and can’t go back to sleep? Thanks.
Hey Geno, I use boxed breathing to distract myself and get back to sleep (RUclips this), or you can also use a guided sleep meditation on RUclips.
Is the double void for men only? As a woman, to go a second time would result in straining. That can lead to a bladder infection.
Hi there, yes the double void works for women too.
thank you doctor you help me
I have only 1 kidney. And I take medicine about blood pressure at 7 pm. It is diuretic. What must I do for not wake up 3 times in the night?
Your situation is extra complicated given the one kidney and you want to avoid stressing this organ. I would discuss this with your kidney specialist as this is out of my scope of practise
@@DrEricLeckie thank you
I'm 32 and I can awake 2-3 times when sleeping.
It results I can even pee in my dream although thank goodness I don't wake up pee in my bed 😔
I really miss the time I can time travel 8 hours of sleep without waking up.
Eating a large bag of potato crisps helps me.
Thanks for sharing! What you have said really does work. Question though... Will a sleep aid such as, HIBERNATE be okay to drink before bed?
Any fluid you consume before bed is going to increase you chances of waking up to pee. Try to drink your hibernate 2 hours before bed
This work great, now i only have to poo 3 times per night instead 😁
oh wow!
if this is work for me to night i will sub u forever and prays u my man
Well, how did it go?
@@DrEricLeckie I mean it was not bad I will follow for more tips
totally agree:;;im in it😊
Glad you found it helpful John 🤝
thank you dr eric
Interesting, I shall try it.
Did it help?
Great effort Dr Eric
Great to meet you Gary and thanks for sharing your story! Keep up the great work 💪
Very enlightening and it works. It’s easy listening to your videos. Your techniques and advice have been most helpful. Keep going and create more videos we all can benefit from.
Thank you! Will do!
Double peeing is not an option for me I can’t whiz on demand.
Just booked an online appointment. Hope to figure out my issue soon. Thanks Eric
Good luck, sir.
A LOT OF THANKS TO YOU SIR , FOR TELLING ME THE SECRET OF LIVING FOREVER YOUNG . RAVINDRA KUMAR . INDIA
MY NAME IS SHANE CAN NAT SLEEP A NIGHT
I will try this .....
I find boxed breathing (5 sec inhale, 5 sec breath hold, 5 sec exhale, 5 sec breath hold helps me out with this
Thanks Doc.
I been double voiding for 20 years it still doesn't work
Is this for men only
Because I’m a woman I have had this problem for years
