Top 5 Rock Voices Imho,Burton Cummings, Robert Plant,Steve Walsh,Steve Perry,Freddie Mercury, and Peter Cetera. Just my opinion.,if I'm missing any please let me know, thanks
Only a flautist could develop this kind of vocal support and control. I should have known he played the flute on this one! Multi-talented man with a one-of-a-kind voice! ***CHEERS***
Guess Who played at my high school graduation in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada in 1969. Have followed them for decades and Burton Cummings is probably one of the most talented musicians ever , be it guitar, harmonica, flute, a master pianist or vocals. The man is a master and it is a travisty if this man and the rest of the Guess Who is not yet in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame
@@hstevens7125 I have the very same opinion! The "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame " is an independant ''entity'' that mainly caters to American ''artists'' and ''bands''. I don't want to pin-point and denigrate some of the laureates but there are many in the list who most certainly don't deserve to be there, laureates with hardly any oustanding talent and achievements. Personally, I certainly do not take this ''entity'' seriously and anyone who does should take the time to sit down and look at what it's worth.
Classic song that will never ever fade away!! Love this song and the more I hear it, I play it over and over and over until my husband says for me to give it a break!!! Love it!!!
This is an excellent live version of a song that is not easy to play or sing. Very excellent job! I had no idea that Cummings played the flute. Very cool.
Burton Cummings played the piano and sang that's it. Then Randy Bachman says to him, What, you don't play the flute? Burton, says no, Randy says, Well you should. So Burton Cummings learned to play the flute. Amazingly talented man.
He already knew the sax from when he was with the Deverones and the finger work between that and the flute is pretty much the same so it was easy for him to pick it up. Randy also taught him rhythm guitar. Amazing talent all around.
I play both sax and flute and you are right that there are some key fingerings that are the same but the embouchure and everything about making a decent sound on a flute is completely different. It is not by any stretch easy to "pick it up". Most people do not see the thousands of hours most musicians struggle to learn their craft to make that 4 minute video look easy.
I used to sneak up into my dad's bedroom when I was a pre teen (1970s)-- while dad was at work and play a Guess Who "Eight Track" tape! That really dates me. Dad died 2 years ago at age 70. I also saw these guys play a Free Concert at the American Music Festival in Virginia Beach in 1997.
Don't concern yourself about the music or 8-tracks dating you,lol....at least we were there when this music was out there and real, which is more than I can say about much of what's out there today. 45 years from now this music will still be rockin' and relevant....today's stuff...not so much. :)
kaewonf8 Absolutely. And I wouldn't have it any other way.I've got an ear for just about any music, but it would have been a shame to not have grown up to such masterpieces as this....an era of the coolest music and hottest cars ever!
That what I call HONEST music!! It does not belong to any pop trend created by only-for-profit recording companies. It is the expression of their own musicality, their own musical feelings... It's simply their own music, and it was and it is fantastic!
Burton Cummings learned to play the flute for this song. In his old band The Deverons he played saxophone. Randy Bachman encouraged him to play the flute for some of their songs, to give them a spacier feel. Right after Randy wrote Undun, The Guess Who played a YAMAHA music store opening where they had a flute in the display case. Burton learned from the dealer that the fingering for the flute was the same as a sax (except for C), and a classic was born.
@Linda V Johnson, several years ago, I downloaded an FM broadcast from 1970, a concert done in St Louis. There were technical problems in spots on the broadcast, and the announcers were doing play by play in the difficult spots. 'Button has picked up a flute. . .' He also plays harmonica, which you will hear in Running Back to Saskatoon from the Live at the Paramount album.
This is one of my FAVORITE songs of all time! Such incredible talent! I LOVE the original Guess Who! I went to College with the music of these guys!! Good times! I pray all the time that they will reunite and do a Reunion Tour! Wow! THAT would be a great day if it were to ever happen! Even though it is now 2018, it is never too late! So, come on guys, get together again for a Reunion Tour! Make your fans the happiest they can ever be! We love ya'll!
I first heard you just as you broke up. It is SOOOO wonderful that a lot of people also loved and missed you!!! Thank you for giving us back some of your magic! BTW, I hope you never get tired of singing this song, because I will never get tired of listening to it!!!
We all had their records back in the day in the U.S. God, this song gives me the chills. Don't nobody say their they were underrated; they were definitely appreciated.
i was wondering how he kept his breath control singing, now i know he plays a wind instrument, his voice has mellowed and still sounds top tier, excellent driving music
Incredible Band ! Burton is beyond great as a vocalist of rock...He Is outstanding !!!! Always LOVED this amazing song ! Vocals guitar, bass, flute , melody, lyrics...EVERYTHING !!!!
The praise doesn’t come any loftier when none other than John Lennon says you are his favourite singer and Led Zeppelin’s icon, Robert Plant, says you are one of rock’s best voices. Both are talking about Burton Cummings
Great band, Burton's a great vocalist. I love this song. I was only seven years old when this song was first played on the radio, but it seems many of my happy memories are somehow connected with it.
I love this song, I remember I had the the album this song was on I listened to all the time. Man his vocals was crazy good and the music. The lead singer was one of the best I ever heard and I agree he doesn't get the credit he deserves as well as the band The Guess Who . 😘
First song I heard on my transistor radio by The Guess Who was Shakin All Over back in ‘65. Blew me away and I hadn’t even seen Burton Cummings yet! I was 14 and in love with his voice. I’m 66 now and a great grandma and still love him. He’s part of the soundtrack of my life. I don’t know of one song he did that I didn’t love! Rock on Burton!
Loved my transistor radio...so cool. Your comment reminded me of my younger years and how one night during the holidays my dad kept calling me "transistor sister" (being the oldest child I was always called "sis"). After the New Year, I discovered from my Mom, who always got the gifts from Santa, that Dad had actually bothered to go and shop for and buy me a pocket-size am/fm tranistor radio when he had never done anything like this before. Still one of my favorite singers and bands. Im about to try to play the flute again as Ive tried a handful of times in the last 30 years.. Its just much easier to get air for a sax then it is for this breathy crazy flute.
A couple months before my mom passed away my brother and I were sitting out on her deck on a warm summer day and this song came on the radio. It was like, "soon we'll have to go through a very tough time, but right now everything is right with the world."
Wow The Guess Who .......Undun......amazing.....is it rock....is it Jazz ....is it Latin Rythem......it is wonderful.....Thanks thanks for posting .....I love this group......
Superb live performance and super group, and yes your right one if not the best classic jazz rock song played and sung in the world, and timeless, like a lot of Guess Who's songs!
Dang! I still enjoy this song as much as I did the first time I heard it. Rather amazing how much they sound the same as when they started out. That is saying something for a group of guys that grew up during the midst of the drugs, free sex and rock-n-roll era.
When you hear a singer that can so flawlessly sing live like Burton does, it truly shows why he has one of the greatest voices of all times.
Yeah he doesn't get enough recognition.
Take note, millennials: This is talent. This is real music. Your "music" smh, bless your hearts. Thank goodness for RUclips.

DITTO ON ALL COUNTS!
When I was a little kid, this song captivated me. And still does decades later.
I was 7 when it came out. The year Woodstock happened.
This tune was one of those magical soundtracks of my early childhood days….
THE Guess Who!?! An absolutely timeless classic! AMEN!
Music back then had soul and good writing. Not just three words constantly repeated
Just had the pleasure of seeing BC . Voice, piano, flute and guitar and above all else, fantastic songwriter…..a national treasure Canada.
Burton, if you ever read these comments... Thank you for your beautiful voice. Thank you to the rest of the band...

What is the. Name of the flautist?
The Man playing the flute and singing is Burton Cummings 😊😊😊
how are they doing this without computers and backing tracks, gizmo's, etc,? I think they called these type of people "musicians"
Hmmm...Yes, I think I heard someplace too, that they used to be called that ('musicians').
Now they're on the endangered species list :(
@@142horizon not these guys, the guess who is still making music. plus cummings and randy bachman are touring right now lol
Damn few of them left, every day.
What? Musicians? What are those?
Through radios. Imagine this album went to top globally.
great jazz chords by Bachman.... impeccable Cummings vocals. just a great tune period.
Yes.
And Randy also had a band that did amazing as well
Randy Bachman way underrated
Bachman and Cummings were just so much better together than as individuals.
Superb lyrics, music, relevance for it’s time. Fucking Genius Shit this

I think they might b lip syncing it cuz the flute kept on playing even after Burton took it away from his lips lol!
Wish We still had Artists like this!
No auto tune, just a good voice singing.
They made such great music in the 60's and 70's. Pure vocals and music.
So many great songs with great music and great vocals and great guitar music ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My favorite singer of all time. Musician as well. His voice takes me on a journey, It’s amazing
Best live performance I've heard ,sounds like the studio version Great band.
Cummings voice is spot on. The bass work carries the line beautifully. This is a great song. I miss these guys work.
I've been listening to the Guess Who since I was 9 years old and love every single song they did. Every song they did was a hit.
