This takes me back to my early teens, when the world was a far better place to be. What a brillant song performed by great musicians! This song will never get old, unlike me 🤫😉😎
A true classic that remains timeless. All you have to do is hear the first few bars of music 🎶 and then Daryl and John start making their magic. Forever young! 😎 💘
One of the best songs ever written about a lost love and the beauty and purity of the music and their voices is just magic. Sorry folks but these are the facts
Daryl Hall had the better voice but John Oates was more eye candy for the ladies --- that mustache and chiseled physique definitely got the attention of the women

Back when music didn't need anything but talented musicians and great songs by equally great writers. No computer gimmicks, fake stuff or anything else. Just timeless music that will far outlast anything today.
Wow, I would have been a toddler when they did this and was much more familiar with their later stuff, but this is outstanding. Couldn’t help but think of Flight of the Conchords for the first few minutes though.
How can such a great song contain so many memorable lines. "My face ain't gettin any younger" Everybody getting high on consolation- Spend an eternity in the city-carbon monoxide helps me choke my thoughts away. These guys--The eagles and Billy Joel came up wit some of the greatest American poetry ever written--throw in Paul Simon too. Absolutely great poets with great insights and lines.
There's such great two-part harmony between Hall & Oates, I'm surprised that they didn't use it so much on their later hits. This remains their best song. I believe it actually charted twice for them.
What can I say about this song?! I was in the Marine Corps when this song was on the radio....and I was captivated. It was the days of disco, but these guys were different! In the late 70's and early 80's, these guys had the Maidas Touch. EVERYTHING they touched turned to GOLD! Can't forget it!

This is still one of the best live performances you'll find anywhere on YT and the way Daryl can manipulate his incredible vocal range with such ease is just ridiculous.
Remembering how great these guys were.Chilling lyrics.❤Thanks for sharing a step back in the past. God Bless those who are solo.Nothing lasts for ever.🥰
You can try and slam this all you want but this is what great music is, talented musicians playing and singing their hearts out with God-given skill without the need of computer generated crap to hide the lack of talent in most of today's performers.
"Daryl's House" is and has been one of the best live session shows on Paladium and online for years. Daryl is a bloody genius (not an instrument the guy doesn't play) and John has one of most underrated voices to come down the pike.
My 4yr old son in 2007, in his car seat, would belt this song out while I drove. I left it on repeat as he did not want to hear anything else while he was in the car. He's 15 now and I just had him listen to it. Man I just got a 💋 and a hug. Thank you Hall & Oates.
I remember playing this song over & over in 1977 when my girlfriend left me. We got married in 1980 & 41 years later still going at it. Love you always Darlene!😍

As a musician I love playing Hall and Oates songs. Beautiful melodies and chords. The modulation at the end is like a mountain of whip cream. Watch the drummer grab his symbols for the hard stop.
Timeless
I like the way you describe things wish I could hear you play
My brother is a drummer has played most of my life and I'm a bit of a singer
so lucky to be given a true talent...music...in any way....keep going....never stop......im eccletic....if i like i like....all music end of day.......u take care and keep going......never stop

Hall & Oates made some of the best music ever!!! I love these two brothers!!! Music like this is not around anymore!!!
There will never be music like this again, priceless.
And they make it look so easy.
Still good in 2022 !! Love this song today & all others
I'm 60 yrs old now I grew up with the best music 🎶 🎵
We did, didn’t we…..?
And into 2023! What beautiful voices in this heartfelt song ... Both guys are perfect in tthis songd
Any better time ?.. no.
I was born on the day this song was released and my parents told me I danced out of the womb and laughed and moved to this song my whole first year of being on this Earth. Years later I am now a Dancer and Singer.
What a great way to start! ❤️
Best comment ever!!!
Awwww
Awwww
These two are definitely among if not the best duo ever in my opinion. From the first time I heard their music in 84/85 till now. They still sound amazing to this day.Their songs always make my day!!!
I meant their songs lol.
+Herall Dinnall I agree good stuff man. I was born in 84 so its before my time. but its not hard to know good music when you hear it
I'm not going to give my age away, but I love their music. yes your right, one of the best.
Sabrina Thomas Lol it's ok you probably not in your 50's or 60's but even so great music can be appreciated from any age.I got my 5 year old godson into music like this.
Richard Armstrong No doubt and I was born in 77 and love music even from the 50's and 60's as well.
Growing up in the 70's we were blessed with great music and still enjoy listening to Daryl and John are one of the best.
Never get tired of this song. Brings memories.
me too Patricia....lots of memories...
A break up song of mine at the time.
But Good News , we got back together & we just had our 39th anniversary! 😀😀😀

dad?
she wernt gone then
That’s a great story 👍🏽 love happy endings
In some ways better than the recorded version. Their voices were truly remarkable at this stage.
I think Daryl Hall's voice is even better now, and he's less pretentious.
Thank you.
About what? That the guy with the powerul voice had curly hair or that the guy high on coke had curly hair?
4 SURE !! I love H & O !!
lebarosky I like the recorded version a lot better. But this one is ok.
What a song! Still rockin’ it in 2024!
I am lucky enough to remember when this song came out. So lucky to be a child born in 1970!
I'm with you! Born in 1969!
@@debijean5140 Remember AM radio had all the music back then?
70's baby here!!
I love being born in a zero year! 1960 here. My ex father in law was 1930. I m so prejudiced about this i pity the fools born otherwise. Thats alot of people. I lose!
1968 and I remember!
This makes you realize what a great voice John Oates has
He has so much nuance in his voice. Absolutely incredible track from him here.
amen.. i never realized how much so until now
...REALLY.....AND I REALLY DON´T KNOW WHY HE DOESN´T SING ANY MORE IN CONCERT......
I noticed that too,
Their vocal interplay here adds a nice touch.
Happy 73rd Birthday John William Oates April 7, 1948. NYC born.. He recorded his first single at the tender age of 18. Co captain of the wrestling team in high school. Wrestled in college too. Not a typical musicians life story. Many more John William..
I grew up in zip 19454. Use to see Daryl and John at the Main Point in Bryn Mawr in the early 70's You're right...Not Typical and after all this time....They still are really special!
Thanks for the info, nice stuff to know!

I was a eight year old third grader when this song came out. If I heard this song on the radio on my way to a baseball or football game as a youth, there was stopping us, we'd win. Teammates would ask, " did you hear the song!". Today I'm 60 years old and still love this song!!
No vocoder, no autotune, no overdubs, just pure vocal talent!
No ableton, no Logic, no Cubase. Only real voices and talent.
No people recording it with their phone, just people enjoying being there in the moment.
beautifull
And real musicians that understand their role and kill it !
they dont make recording like this anymore, much less live!
I never really appreciated the "Oates" half of this duo until seeing this video a few days ago. He's great!
Love this song,the performance
And he was a big part of the songwriting, coming up with the choruses for, e.g., this one and "Out of Touch".
Listen to possession obession! He sings lead and not a bad song
@@jaolin6042 `Daryl gives credit to John Oates as the songwriter on this one. I heard him say it before. I think Oates had the idea after he got kiinda stood up on a date by a girl he just recently met. lol, He wrote most of this one. One of their first few hits along with Sara Smile followed by many, many more they had.
Have you heard "Don't Cross Me Wrong" by John Oats? It came out a few years ago, Vince Gill sings back-up on it.
This takes me back to my early teens, when the world was a far better place to be. What a brillant song performed by great musicians! This song will never get old, unlike me 🤫😉😎
Cause we were young and didn't know
This song came out the year i turned 21.Great times
A true classic that remains timeless. All you have to do is hear the first few bars of music 🎶 and then Daryl and John start making their magic. Forever young! 😎 💘
Hello dear, how are you doing, how is the weather over there?
Daryl and John were a large contribution to the best music in the 70s, she’s gone, and starting all over again my favourites
Mine is Sara’s Smile
They had a ton of hits...
One of the best songs ever written about a lost love and the beauty and purity of the music and their voices is just magic. Sorry folks but these are the facts
I always feel kinda proud when a British audience is hearing the best of American music.Love Old Grey Whistle Test.
This is amazing!!!! The 1970s music is like nothing else.
This oldies were and still are the best music. Songs were real from the heart most from their life experiences. 👏👏
JOHN OATS HAS A BEAUTIFUL AND AWESOME MANLY VOICE .. WOW
Indeed
And a manly mustache
He's very sexy LOL he really captures a woman's eyes
Daryl Hall had the better voice but John Oates was more eye candy for the ladies --- that mustache and chiseled physique definitely got the attention of the women
He adds the punch
Amen I love this song hell I’m 63 years old I love good feeling music good for sure soul if u lived long enough too underwater real love put it music 🎶 u will stay in love she ❤gone
Im 42 and this is one of the BOAT
Back when music didn't need anything but talented musicians and great songs by equally great writers. No computer gimmicks, fake stuff or anything else. Just timeless music that will far outlast anything today.
I get your point but they used computers in this song. Synthesizers and that keyboard are computers.
@@binsbins1wave form generators are not computers. That's all synths were back then.
Almost 50 years later, and these guys still sound fresh as hell!
The best! Old people get it!
Well, this was probably at the very least 25 years ago
it says 1976 in the title, so probably 45 yrs ago.....
How do you get Alexa to stop
Wow, I would have been a toddler when they did this and was much more familiar with their later stuff, but this is outstanding. Couldn’t help but think of Flight of the Conchords for the first few minutes though.
Whos still cranking up Hall & Oates in 2020 ? She's Gone
Me too in Arizona 6/5/20
Omg I love this tune so much brings back so many memories I'm caught in a time bubble now but loving every minute and every lyric
I have a Hall & Oates 2020 magnet on my car!
I sure am, saw them for the 5th time last years xxx
Anyone who grew up in the 70's and 80's most definitely should! This is a total classic.
Fabulous duo best of the best. Still digging them at 68
This song still holds up today .. Great voice .Great band...
Great blue eyes soul brother

I need a drink and a quick decision...i paid the devil to replace her
Sorry Charlie, for the imposition ... pure gold
Real music I’am glad I was there to experience it. Still love it today
Im 74 and love this!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
😊
At 71 I am here ✋️
Me too
There's such great two-part harmony between Hall & Oates, I'm surprised that they didn't use it so much on their later hits. This remains their best song.
I believe it actually charted twice for them.
It could easily chart a third time if someone covered it.
@@eddiemoney1093 Or if used in a movie soundtrack.
I have a huge smile on my face listening and watching them perform. Such a great song . I love them still after all these years ❤
Who is still listening to Daryl in 2021 🌹❤
I'm listening to Oates...
Still listening and just saw them two weeks ago. Hearing this live for real was unreal.
IO ancora li ascolto. CHE MUSICA ❤MA LUI ,DARRIL ,QUANTO ERA BELLO😍😍😍
Pure , raw talent...nostalgia....takes me back...waaayyy back..If life could be so lite and carefree again..Love/ed this band...Sooo incredible. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for giving us decades of your incredible mind and talent! Still here in 2021!!!! 💙🙌👏
If u think this song is good check out daryl's house rocking....
great comments Christy....couldn't agree with you more...
This isn`t just a magnificent record but this is also an incredible live performance of it ! simply awesome!
This is still one of the best live performances you'll find anywhere on YT and the way Daryl can manipulate his incredible vocal range with such ease is just ridiculous.

You're high.
+Simon Ellis REALLY? i need to see them! I went in the 70's but don't remember when or who i went with. :(
+Simon Ellis no Simon, come on now. Im a huge HAO fanboy, but Daryls voice has been gone for 10 yrs now.
+Shane Anthony i have to disagree, Daryl sounds better today than he ever did in the past, i've seen a better performance on video at his house
I loved this song then and I still love it today!❤
Always loved Hall & Oates, every song was just about a hit...Sara smile, She's Gone, and so much more..Gold!
TRUE
Hall and Oates charted more singles than the Beatles.
Rich girl.
Yes!!!😍
Remembering how great these guys were.Chilling lyrics.❤Thanks for sharing a step back in the past. God Bless those who are solo.Nothing lasts for ever.🥰
Jesus what a mesmerising performance. The whole lot of them are super talented. The performance of this song is truly a masterpiece.
Your so right! it's spellbinding!
Ditto! Super Talented!
Still blowin' me away --
Amazing and all live! Those high notes are crazy good.
Davestar Similar to 10cc I’m not in love. Both outstanding seventies songs..
I’m 35 and this song hits hard. What an effing duo. Every song great. Every song a hit.
John Oates has an incredible voice!!!
AMAZING VOICE
And he wrote this song.
Pure music. Nothing distracting. Real musicians playing.
These guys just keep getting better the older they get!. Gotta love Hall and Oates.
My 4yr old son in 2007, in his car seat, would belt this song out while I drove. I left it on repeat as he did not want to hear anything else while he was in the car.
He's 15 now and I just had him listen to it. Man I just got a 💋 and a hug. Thank you Hall & Oates.
Hello ,how are you doing, how is the weather over there?
I remember playing this song over & over in 1977 when my girlfriend left me.
We got married in 1980 & 41 years later still going at it.
Love you always Darlene!😍
Congrats & best wishes.

I think that’s great- the lyrics are really something, huh?
That's awesome!💟👍💐
Miss my Girl, she's 22. I send her this song constantly. I miss the Shit out of her. It sucks. She grew up to fast. Love this song! Thanks for your gift of lyrics and music.🥰
You can really feel their Motown roots coming out in this great version
Philadelphia sound. Detroit had the 60s. Philly ruled the 70s.

the group is entirely magical.. guitar, bass, keys.. and the front men. What a wonderful Team.
Th Bone was the best bass player.

I. AM AND ALWAYS WILL!! My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE Hall and Oates song. Darryl's voice is so...mmm...perfect....wonderful...just...mmmm...yeah, it's like that. So so so good!! And the lyrics! And the harmony! and the instrumentation! The arrangement! It's just wonderful! And, if you look up this song "live at Daryl's House" with Rob Thomas (on youtube), it's 99.9% as good as the original.
60's child in the 70's but we still had some good music... nobody can touch this today!
Trying to picture a duo sounding like this and making music this good these days... and I can't.
There are some youtube groups that have amazing talent.
look up Josh Turner and Reina del cid for two sets of duet groups.
