- Even with 17mph winds hitting us directly in the face, just listen to the rod whip and the line shoot off the reel! Going, going, gone! 😮😮😮
BCBL'S Capt.C.Guillen casting the Alvey GVCR paired with an Alvey Custom Beach King 65R! #Alvey #SideCastingReels #TeamBCBL
A very big thanks to BCBL'S Govierno Castillo for taking the great video! Спорт
Love what you guys are doing for such an Aussie icon, I own several myself and in the surf they are truly unbeatable. Most of the alveys I own would be older then me and still work like brand new. Hopefully an Alvey will be a common sight on American beachs soon
I've had my Alvey for 45 years never broken down never let me down.
Great to see another Alvey beach combo being used in the USA and you're having a great time using it . The Alvey fishing reel is an Aussie icon of enginuity and simplicity together in a one stop package . Tough , easy to clean and maintain , insane large line capacity ( mine each have 800m of 50lb mono and still have room for my leader ) . I own 5 of them now , my oldest reel is one of the very first fibreglass and heavy chrome back plate. It's 40 + years old and still works perfectly.
Before I forget your reel you use with that combo - the inner handle use gives a faster retrieve ( 3:1 ratio ) than using the outer handle ( 1:1 ratio ).
Great video mate , really awesome to see you're enjoying your new toy combo . And having great success with it .
Best regards from an Aussie who LOVES fishing and Alvey reels . Cheers from western Australia down under.
I can’t say I’ve seen too many pendulum cast and Alvey like that here in Australia.
However a 6-1/2 inch reel on a 13’6” rod like that is possibly the best surf combo ever, and admittedly my go to!
Love using alvey reels I’m in Australia 🇦🇺 you will like them too 👍
@BOCA CHICA BEACH LEGENDS put the sliding sinker between the 2 swivels, then your trace, you will get less line tangles
Truly great setup for the surf.
If you used since being a kid you;d never go near a spinning reel by choice off the beach or stones.
Indestructible but a couple of things many do is to build the rid with a second grip further up (for more power when casting) and either a sling or simple waist rod bucket for comfort. Try just using your thumb or finger jammed lightly on the spool when holding the line for casting, and turn the damn ratchet off.
One tip, you can hold the line when casting by simply putting your thumb/finger on the lip of the spool (instead of holding it in the crook of your finger). You get slightly less friction when releasing the line that way and a smoother cast.
sie like the reel. so awesome. from malaysia
Put your line in the open runner when winding in it helps the line go evenly on spool ,but still guide with finger.
Thanks for that tip!
Love your work and have subbed.I am enjoying the vids immensely. I own 5 or so Alveys just love using them from the beaches, rocks and freshwater. I can see you are a fine angler and your enthusiasm shines. Cheers and can't wait for more vids.
I’ve got 2 old 651e5 reels they’re in my opinion the best reel ever made
Part of the combination is a belt rod holder. This allows you to support the rod using just the bucket and the crook of your arm while rebaiting or changing rigs.
What line are you using?
So it takes forever to reel back in the line after casting out a mile?
Should have a 40 lb shock leader for a 4 oz lead.
Long cast with a Alvey.
does the line get twisted after a few casts? Because it casts like a spinning reel but winds like a casting reel. I would think that would put more twist in the line every cast.
It is an issue and you need to setup your rigs with swivels - there is lot of advice how to do this online. It's part of the trade-off with any gear. The Alvey will allow long casting of heavy line and also very light rigs with light line. Not ideal for all fishing, but bait casting they are great.
You shouldn’t put braid on an alvy you’ll find mono is a lot better in the finger
Where can I get me a set up like that
Ebay from Australia
What about the ratchet and drag?
Ratchet and drag are on the lever and attach to the handles
I'm guessing it has very little to no drag power? Why not just use a big 8k+ size spinning reel? Or a conventional?
what do you mean 'drag power'?
Orlando you'll notice the star under the knobs and the silver nob in the centre that's your drag. Take a look at the Alvey videos on you tube
@@michaelturner1446 I seriously doubt it puts down as much drag power as a conventional or a high end spinning reel after looking at a spec sheet. That can put down 30kg+ drag power and cast further.. I dont get what the point of using an alvey reel is.
@@fuq584 I've used Alveys for surf fishing for about 25 years I've also used spinners the Alveys have the drag power of the spinners. Try one I can guarantee you'll prefer it over a spinner.
@@michaelturner1446 not to mention you can also use your hand like a shoe on a drum brake to adjust 'drag' on the fly rather than fooling around with the built in drag wheel.
Why is the rod butt so short?
miamiwax
It’s what’s called a low mount, companies like Snyder Glas, Wilson and Alvey used low, med and high mounted reel seats dependant on the rod blank type, weight and target species purpose. A low mount is usually for lighter species on smaller reels and is usually used with a rod “cup” belt attachment since the fisherman is usually standing for ages holding the rod. Glorious history, very old school.
There is a bit of science in this -by keeping the reel down low it acts like a pendulum as the right hand is the fulcrum point when casting .
It also brings the reel closer to the body while fishing making it more comfortable to use in a long session . All sidecast rods are low mount and if you look carefully you will see another little design feature - the reel seat lock nut is on the rod tip side if the reel as opposed to what is on a thread line or overhead rod. This is because when you cast an Alvey your left hand grips the rod at the rear of the reel and if the reel seat nut is placed there it can work loose .
Still using my First Alvey which I got 40 yrs ago and it is still going as strong as the day I got it !
@@ianbertenshaw4350 i run my threadline in the same configeration and have been using it for 30 years, sold all but one alvey, 6.5 e type for groper
new alveys have nothing on the 651e5, best reel alvey ever made. 900m of 30lb mono, beat that.
I cringed when you cast....try a breakaway “cannon” with the reel to save splitting your finger.
Overhead cast mate, not a friggin golf swing
Lol yank flag on an Aussie reel that's insulting
Marketing to the simple yanks
turn your clicker off lmao
