    Before that I used the method as recommended by thousands of forums, videos etc of the trombone cleaner, which I found would unblock and clear some of the mess but not fix the issue completely and would occasionally inver the seals causing more restrictions and road noise!

    Just seen this today June 11th 2023. Like you I took out the drain tubes to clean. I found very little on this but was motivated by the fact i kept getting water in the cabin. Well that and the fact my good lady decided to push a trombone down them and the noise inside the cabin was bad. As you say its relatively easy. I also found that the rubber seals were stiff and wouldnt seal properly. I inverted the seals and fix to problem. Thanks for showing this video

    I have a MX5 Roaster 2013 and I don't think I can use the Hood Drain Cleaning Brush method as it appears that a grill has been fitted at the top end of the draining hole stopping you from inserting a brush, unless you know how to remove this without breaking it.

    • @dss199
      @dss199  Год назад +1

      Later models came with the kit fitted, the grille isn’t an issue, it’s a blue foam block at the top that may be causing you’re issue.

      Hi. It’s really subjective. But I also didn’t have a recording of it before. But I can say it is really noticeable. If you can hear tyre and road noise from behind the hoops then this is most likely a cause.

    Thank you for taking the trouble to share this. Previously tried the trombone cleaner method, but really struggled to find the drain hole. Am having problems of excessive condensation inside my MX5 Mk3 - all carpets (inc. boot) are dry. The roof appears to be watertight. The car isn't kept in a garage and left on the drive in all the adverse elements ...perhaps that's an issue?

    • @dss199

      @@dss199 Thank you. I checked and fixed scuttle grommets several years ago as water was getting into the footwell - these have remained dry ever since. Will certainly double check roof drains. I'll probably have another go at trying to find the rear drain holes for the trombone cleaner .... such an awkward angle. Thanks again.

    • @dss199
      @dss199  Год назад +1

      @@sengwellb1 you need to start with the kick plates and remove. Then remove door side trim and seatbelt covers. Then you can remove the roll bar hoops covers. Then remove the large back plastic that holds the fuel cap pull, you will need to remove centre console to do this. Once that is done it’s a case of removing the seatbelt and cover allowing you access to where my video starts. Need to borrow a mk3 before I can film the full procedure. @MrMazdaGuy Thank you for this video, i took my drains out and cleaned them and upon re-installing i found that they seem to leak in to the seat belt tensioner area (leak appears to be coming from above possibly from the point where the rubber black pipe connects to the drain box, assuming putting it back together as you have shows just by pushing it back on as flush as possible. Any idea what could be causing it to leak down into that area? also found my white plastic end part that exits out of the car, the seal is perished and causes water to drip down too inside the tensioner box, any help would be appreciated, thanks. Hmmm, curious. I haven’t had this to my knowledge. I know there is a foam seal on the bottom piece. It might not be sealing well?

    • @dss199
      @dss199  8 месяцев назад

      Another thought, you could try a thin layer of silicone if this is the case. I believe it’s the same type seal as the windscreen grommets that fail?

    • @dss199
      @dss199  6 месяцев назад

      Hey. I have been informed that the seal around the base of the roof and the chassis under the window can be a leak source that runs down into the back of the footwell. Also there is a tank above the drain hose that can clog.
      Just thought I would update you on what I have found incase you have the same problem.

    Clean the pieces one by one and when I put them back I have a leak of water to the part where the seat belt is. It does not seal 100% the plastic piece vs. the metal of the bodywork and there it filters the water inside. How do I fix this problem?

    • @dss199

      Hi,
      My car had never had them touched in that area but had water leak (before stripping) after striping mine went away and it didn’t leak anymore. Might be worth double checking and I have heard the seals on the top and bottom prices can perish, at that point it’s find a solution or buy new parts, I would personally double check that the ends are flush with the bulkheads if that makes sense. The slightest twist and they wouldn’t be
