    You have the option to start AF tracking with your chosen AF point (or center point) on Canon R. You have to be in AI Servo and face + tracking mode. Then go to Menu -> AF -> Tab 5 -> "Initial Servo AF pt for face + tracking". Here the default setting is Auto. Change it to "Initial AF pt set for face + tracking". See page 300 of the user manual. Once enabled, see page 270 to see how to use it when shooting.

      Marián Čuprík 4k 60p would be great. I'd like a slightly bigger X-T200 body (with the SS, Exposure compensation dial etc). Yes definitely no IBIS, I'm sure Fuji's digital stabilisation will get better.

    You take beautiful photos and your working knowledge of the Fuji system is very insightful! Thank you for those things :) As an EOS R user (that is interested in Fujifilm) it was disappointing to hear the majority of comparisons be for the X-T3 vs the X-T4. I recently got the X T4. The Sony A7R iv and Canon R6 AF and eye tracking is much better. But the X T4 isn't too bad either. Honestly no difference in image quality and sharpness. Slight slight edge for bokeh to the full frames. I like the SOOC and the colors from the Fuji much more. And the film simulations like Classic Negative, Chrome, Pro Negative and Eterna are unreal. I'm leaning going Fuji. This is from a Sony Shooter since the A7ii to the A7Riv. I also adpated Canon lenses with the Fringer adapter and images are every bit as good as anything out of the Sony or Canon full frames.

    Hi Mitch, I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on the differences between the Canon EOS R and Fujifilm xt4 system as a hole. I Love the form factor of the xt4 but in the same time Canon has this simplicity feeling with their cameras as well as having a bigger sensor and I think EF/RF lens selection is way better.. my question is if I won't be disappointed going all the way with Fujifilm compared to Canon for events and outdoor photoshoots.. Thank you!

    • @MitchLally
      @MitchLally  4 года назад +4

      I think both have their place - it depends on the photographer. For me when it comes to photography - I just can't get away from the full frame look. If I shot more % video jobs though I would 100% go for the Fuji - even over the newer Canon cameras coming out. Fuji just absolutely kills the video game IMO.

    Dude 12 batteries... That's nuts. I have two xt3 and own 4 batteries. I start a wedding with charged batteries. One battery gets me through the start of the day until ceremony where I switch just before. Then put the first batter on a charger. The second battery gets me through ceremony couple shots and first dances then I switch back to the first one that was on the charger and it gets me through the rest of the night

    • @MitchLally
      @MitchLally  4 года назад

      Oh yeah, I had two XT3's and an XH1 - shooting video as well in 4K not stills... I didn't have all genuine fuji batteries either so maybe that's why they would drain quicker. I think I only used 8-10 per day on average so I always had spares just in case. That way I never had to bring a charger to a wedding.

    Mitch, great review. You say you prefer the EOS R for the full frame look vs the Fuji for portraits. Curious if you tried the 56mm f/1.2 and if the forthcoming 50mm f/1.0 would make you reconsider

    • @MitchLally
      @MitchLally  4 года назад +2

      I owned the 56 1.2 for two years. And I also owned the Mitakon 35mm 0.95. Yeah these lenses have shallow DOF akin to FF offerings. But what about a 24mm 1.4 equivalent on the fuji? Or a 35mm 1.4 (my personal favourite).

    • @CollegeFootballNerds
      @CollegeFootballNerds 4 года назад

      @@MitchLally Ironically, I've been shooting a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 in Canon mount on my X-T3 with a Fringer. Don't get the same shallow DoF but you do get better AF and sharper image than the older Fuji 35/24mms. I do see your point, however. If you want wide and fast, you really need a 23mm f/1.0 to pair with the 56.
      The Sigma 85 and 135 are killer on the Fuji too btw. You should give them a shot.
      But my favorite is probably the Canon 135mm f/2 on the Fuji. The combination of the dreamy almost vintage qualities from the glass paired with some of the film simluations in the Fuji makes for an incredible look.

  • @caerphoto
    @caerphoto 4 года назад +1

    Interesting that you say at around 5:00 that the f/2 lenses are better in image quality. My experience, at least with the 23mm ones, has been the opposite: the 1.4 lens is far better than the f/2 in almost every image-quality-related aspect, and it's only the autofocus (and cost in terms of size, weight and money) that is not as good. From what I've seen with, e.g. KentuckyMan30 ’s tests, the same applies to the others (16, 35 and 50/56).

    • @That_Bimmer_Guy

I do photography as a hobby, mainly landscapes and travel. I don't really do any video. Part of me wants to try something new out and the X-T4 looks like it's more compact and travel friendly, but the other part methinks the new RF lenses for the Canon would be a better investment, plus I'm already very familiar with it. Thank you for the great Fuji review content. I really appreciate your style. I have the X-T3 with a bunch of Fuji glass and I’ve been stuck shooting eterna profile 400 DR with a VND. I have failed to understand how to either expose well or grade Log or HLG footage. I’ve been doing some kitchen cooking videos and I’m trying to understand the best approach to exposure because every time I bring F Log or HLG into FCPX I just can’t get it to look acceptable but it looks alright with eterna. Any tips on how I should have the histogram look while shooting HLG 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @jwanger142
      @jwanger142 4 года назад +1

      I’m just trying to make the most of the X-T3 and vacation vids trying to get the most dynamic range and best looking color. Are you setting up zebras and just making sure not to clip anything or your making sure to let stuff clip as long as your subject is exposed properly?

    • @MitchLally
      @MitchLally  4 года назад +1

      If you go back and watch my video on how I colour grade my videos I have some info on this. When it comes to shooting indoors I would advise not to shoot in log or hlg. It doesn’t offer any advantage to image quality as you have complete control over lighting and dynamic range. Shoot as close to your desired final result as possible to save the headache of colour grading.

    • @MitchLally
      @MitchLally  4 года назад +2

      I do let bright parts of the image clip if they are not important (ie I would never clip skin tones or my subjects clothing etc.) always protect your highlights but in the case that you subject is too dark when protecting highlights I would rather sacrifice the highlights in the background. Of course this is a last resort - if you can take control of your lighting, use a reflector to bounce light to your subject or shoot from a different angle or different time of day. Filmmaking is problem solving - if you solve these lighting and dynamic range issues yourself you will have a much easier time than if you expect your camera to do all the work.

    G'day mate. You think the image quality from the 23f2 is better than the 1.4? Wow. Anyway, mate. Keep up the good work.

    • @MitchLally
      @MitchLally  4 года назад

      Yeah sorry, I’ve owned both and multiple copies of the 23mm 1.4 too. The 1.4 is not sharp at all even in the centre wide open whereas the f2 is. To get a similar sharpness with the f1.4 you need to stop down to f2 which kind of defeats the purpose of getting an f1.4 anyway. Also the 1.4 has lower contrast and saturation and a lot more chromatic aberration in my tests. But the 23 f2 does have a sharpness issue at close focus I will admit.

    Nice vid. Please explain when did shallow depth of field become “greater depth of field”? Curious as most photo content on YT says this and for the life of me I cannot figure it out. Everyone says they enjoy the greater DOF of a FFS but a FFS yields (generally as more complicated) a more shallow DOF over say APSC and smaller given same equivalent focal length, f stop, and camera to subject distance. If ya think about it, change depth with focus so greater depth of focus front and back of critical plane f11 vs shallow depth of focus front and back of CP say at f1.4 Or did I miss something in under grad and gradual school. Again love the vid and the stills and production solid. Maybe the inverse square law changed and I didn’t get the memo.

    • @MitchLally
      @MitchLally  4 года назад

      Bush Beatnik you’re right. I said ‘extra dof’ I did actually mean, extra shallow depth of field though - should probably word it better next time to avoid confusion.

    I've been using a Nikon D5100 for 11 years and am in desperate need of an upgrade...was wanting to switch to full frame, though. Is there much of a difference between this apsc one and full frame? I would be using this for social media mostly - youtube travel videos and photography - but hoping to go more professional and do stuff for brands etc over time once I gain more of an audience. Not sure if I should go for full frame now or wait till that happens lol... (as who knows, I may never gain that audience, it's so hard these days ol)

      You dont really need the full frame for professional. I really like apsc more for sports, wildlife and for the portability! I have both xt4 and Sony IV, my Sony is on sale atm. The Sony is great, but the feeling of using it got me much more uninspired, and I prefer the apsc. I got the xt4 even while xt5 was released, cause of the better in low lighting and feeling after renting it

      @@rachel.isabelle I went with the R6 in the end. Have been very happy with my decision 👌 excellent photo quality, 20MP suits my style of shooting but if I tended to crop much I might start to notice the 20MP lacking a bit. The modern auto focus and flip screen are a great upgrade from my 5Dmkii but the familiar yet infinitely customisable controls feel like home.
